while I’m babbling about misconceptions, another common misconception? is that Felix hates the very concept of duty, and that he hates everything about knighthood and everything chivalry stands for

which... he doesn’t! he hates blind loyalty and blind duty. he hates the idea that there’s value in merely dying for someone. but he takes great pride in his duty to protect Dimitri, and the implication here is that he’s proud because his loyalty to him is not blind, and not born out of obligation (as he implies was often the case with his predecessors); he wants to protect Dimitri because he, personally, cares about him

and, similarly, he would never specifically aim to die for someone... but he would fight to the death for Dimitri if necessary. it’s a rather pragmatic view -- “how will I help him if I’m dead?” -- and yet when Rodrigue says he would’ve been “satisfied to die in defense of [his] liege”, Felix responds that he understands that, and that he always has.

here is yet another entirely pointless dimilix thought from me: I can not get over how when Felix is ranting at Dimitri for being reckless and CHARGING IN ALONE he is all >:((

but as soon as Dimitri goes “but I wasn’t alone :D you were there with me :D” Felix goes 🥺 for a genuine split second

then felix brain goes NO WAIT. YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO BE ANGRY and he is back to >:| but while pointedly looking away from Dimitri

hello! I am doing that thing I do where I pop onto tumble, like, once a year!

if you’re thinking I am back because I saw Soren in Engage and wanted to yell a little about it you are 100% CORRECT that IS in fact why I am back!! I am just that excited about Sike content in the year 2k23 and wow now I can go into recent YouTube comments to see people argue about whether or not Ike and Soren are gay. this is so nostalgic I feel like I am back in 2000s era GameFAQs forums

I will be fully honest and admit here that I have not played Engage, because I read through the game’s supports and decided that not only is the writing rather too Fateswakening-y for my tastes, it also seems borderline scared of romance between its characters and why would I Fire Emble if not for the shipping really? why would I. I have to be honest with myself here

(I like Diamant though. he reminds me a little of Ike but he lacks a boyfriend. and I like Ivy, and Goldmary, and Citrinne, and Yunaka is kind of neat too...!)

yes I did play Pokémon last year and yes I do love Rika I just wanted to say this. I’ve never felt this targeted by a fictional character design. (I also cried about the dog) (but who didn’t!!)

whenever I come back to tumblr after a prolonged absence I always look through my notes and I want to personally shoutout: the people who went through my entire sike tag, the people who reblog my dimilix posts over and over, and the people who are still crying about that one close in the distance mix. I don’t really see FE3H fans discuss this much if ever but: certain Nabateans, canonically, can... create life. just out of thin air, or something, apparently. Epimenides confirms Sothis created the non-Agarthan humans on Fodlan, and Rhea similarly has a history of creating life with the hopes that one of her creations will be able to become a vessel for her mother

... and usually this is painted by Rhea detractors as her doing some sort of Creepy Horrific Human Experimentation, but nothing we see in canon really supports that? instead we’re told she treated Sitri, one of her “homunculi”, as her own daughter, and that she became so attached to her she kept her body in pristine shape after death, which. ok, yes, that is weird, but it’s not the kind of weird people imply Rhea is; she never viewed them like tools

as far as we know, Rhea’s creations lived happy lives, and she treated them kindly, even if her ultimate goal was to sacrifice them to Sothis (as she attempts but fails to do with Byleth). it’s quite nuanced :D!

just found out something interesting re: the secret chapter in Three Hopes (spoilers under cut)

in this chapter, each lord fights a phantom version of their retainer. as far as I’ve seen, Edelgard always gets Hubert and Claude always gets Hilda...

but Dimitri can apparently get either Felix or Dedue!? in my AG playthrough, he got Dedue, so I naturally assumed the lords always fight their “main” retainer -- yet this AG playthrough has Felix appear instead.

which makes me wonder... what affects this? is it the hidden support points (as listed under closest allies)? is it random? and is it possible for Edelgard and Claude to fight someone else, or is this variance just for Dimitri? a mystery...

I truly cannot get over how fe3h fans spent so long hating Rodrigue for... very little reason, to the point where I felt mildly uncomfortable not disliking him, and then Hopes comes along and confirms that he is quite possibly the best Fire Emblem dad, and undoubtedly a Very High Tier Fodlan Dad, and in hindsight I’m still not sure where the hate came from? it’s like people forgot that Felix actively avoided him for years (and also? hit him?) for the great crime of coping with the loss of his other son in a way Felix happened to not like. please give this poor video game man a break

(curious who would win the competition for Worst Fodlan Dad though... for all the talk I see of Bernadetta’s dad, Emile/Mercedes’ and Dorothea’s fathers are so much more horrifying)

one hundred years from now someone out there is still going to be debating fire emblem three houses. and I am not saying this as a “this hopeless fandom can’t be helped” thing, I am saying this because 3H brings up too many ageless debates for this to not be the case

is historical revisionism in the name of peace justified? is it wrong to start a war to enact progressive reforms? is violence a necessary evil to uproot unjust structural systems? is religion just a tool used to control people? is incrementalism a sound political approach? is imperialism ok if you’re a cute anime girl

I have been on tumblr for 11 years and, a), that is such a daunting number but also, b), there’s still a part of me that wants to go back and delete moments where I was embarrassing or pointlessly mean but really the more time passes the more I come to realize that some things are just in the past and I don’t need to care

actually Felix is such a Koei character. the whole “dying for someone is useless (you should obviously live for them)” thing he has going comes up a lot in SW as well, and, also. he’s a boy tsundere and Koei LOVE their boy tsunderes

(so do fandoms, apparently, going by the fact that Felix, a tsundere guy, is the most popular non-lord 3H character, and Mitsunari, a tsundere guy, was the most popular SW character [before the reboot], and also the fact that Cao Pi and Zhong Hui, who I for completion’s sake will mention are also tsundere guys, do very consistently well in DW popularity polls)

in other news after I finished Three Hopes I took note of the writers, and in case anybody out there is wondering, I can confirm that Hopes is written by the same people as Houses -- Yuki Ikeno, Mari Okamoto, and Ryohei Hayashi -- but there’s also a new fourth writer, Yuki Harao, who I sadly cannot find any information on :(

I spent so long wondering why Sylvain has so few A supports with women after the timeskip in 3H but after playing Hopes it’s clear to me that this was the writers’ way of showing that he’s gotten over his philandering ways... a neat detail :D

perhaps this is just me. but I feel there’s something uniquely validating about people who have absolutely zero experience with or even active disdain for fandom culture acknowledging any sort of Ship. just something very special about normies, so-called, seeing a moment and going “huh. are those two in love or something”

I had a sudden realization that much like how Dimitri is Koei subverting FE tropes by going “what if we took the classic FE lord and actually explored what being an orphan prince might do to a person”, and much like how Edelgard is them going “what if we took the classic FE red emperor but made them a main character”...

Yuri is “what if instead of every single FE-verse bandit boss being ugly as sin, we made a really pretty playable bandit leader”

assorted non-FE fandom thoughts:

- I watched Arcane some time back and, honestly, I’m amazed at how it manages to take the very cartoony LoL!Jinx and LoL!Vi and turn them into fully-fleshed out, remarkably human characters. and the key relationships in the series are largely between women (jinx-vi-caitlyn), yet it feels so obvious and natural and I love that more than anything?? it’s an excellent show I am glad I saw it :D (also Caitlyn/Vi being so blatant is makes my heart glad... watch it for the f/f content I assure you you will not be disappointed)

- I am in hindsight glad I was not spending much time on tumbler when I played DGS last year because upon finishing it I noticed the slightest inkling of an interest in barok/kazuma and all I can say is, I feel like my taste in ships is not getting any better. it’s just not

- (does anyone ship that, is that a ship)
