Probably the most annoying thing about coming from Twitter to Instagram is that you need to have an image for every post. Anyway, tonight we're christening the new GPU with a stream of Cyberpunk 2077 as voted for by the Discord server. We'll start fresh with a new save, max graphics, and the same bants. U.S. Navy puts StormBreaker smart weapon into operation on the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet
Fernando Valduga By Fernando Valduga 11/07/2023 - 14:00 In Armaments, Military
Raytheon, an RTX company, announced today that the U.S. Navy fielded the company's StormBreaker smart weapon in the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet fighter.
The StormBreaker smart weapon is a network-enabled air-surface ammunition that can hit moving targets in all weather conditions using its multi-effect warhead and triple-mode seeker.
The F/A-18 is the first aircraft approved by the U.S. Navy to carry the StormBreaker. Leveraging the field knowledge of the F-15E, Raytheon was able to reduce the number of flight tests required, saving time and resources to provide this capability to the U.S. Navy.
Tumblr media
“The gun's unprecedented capabilities give aviators the ability to attack targets in difficult and dynamic scenarios,” said Paul Ferraro, president of Raytheon's Air Power. "StormBreaker is an excellent example of how we are using digital technologies to provide advanced aerial domain weapons, ensuring the continued relevance of fourth-generation aircraft."
StormBreaker features an innovative multimode search engine that guides the weapon using an infrared imaging camera, millimeter wave radar and semi-active laser, as well as, or with, GPS and inertial navigation system orientation. The small size of the StormBreaker allows fewer aircraft to reach the same number of targets compared to larger weapons that require multiple jets. It can also fly more than 40 miles to hit moving land and sea targets, reducing the amount of time crews spend in danger.
The U.S. Air Force declared initial operational capability for StormBreaker in the F-15E Strike Eagle in 2022, and all three variants of the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter are currently in integration tests with StormBreaker.

Happy New Year everyone!
It is now, as I'm posting this at midnight at this point, 2024 in my area. Sure, 2023 had plenty of shitty moments (which I am not gonna talk about here since I wanna keep things positive here), but this year is not all entirely doom and gloom, as there are plenty of positives that happened this year for me. Those include, from the top of my head:
* I got a brand new gaming laptop with an RTX 3050 GPU from NVIDIA, with my own money
* I saw The Super Mario Bros. Movie twice in my local theatre (I even saw a movie at my local theatres twice before back in 2019, being Endgame 4 years ago, meaning this is the second time I've done so)
* I got back into plush collecting. Sure my plush collection in the past few years was small, but it has been growing lately as I got more later down the stretch of the year.
* I've been trying out new foods my mum has cooked for the first time (one of which includes cheesy potato with bacon)
* I’ve gotten into anime series that I never watched before this year (such as Darling in the FRANXX, Idolish7, Ensemble Stars, and Bungo Stray Dogs, and I did rewatch season 1 of JJK and Spy x Family before season 2 of their shows came out (I finished Spy x Family season 2, but I still need to catch up with JJK a little later on) and rewatching Demon Slayer season 1 again managed to make me watch the Mugen Train arc (technically twice, first for the movie and second for the TV-adapted arc) and Entertainment District before the Swordsmith Village arc came out (I was gonna see it premiere at the movies, but I did not get to, but at least I saw the arc when it actually aired on Japanese TVs).
* I saw a Studio Ghibli movie on the big screen, for the first time (I have seen anime movies in my local theatre before though, but this my first Ghibli movie in my local theatre, and it was dubbed too, which I saw to hear Christian Bale, Robert Pattinson and Mark Hamill in a Ghibli film)
* I've gotten more posters throughout the year in addition to the posters I already own. This year, I got posters of Spy x Family, Yu-Gi-Oh! (Duel Monsters, of course), Fairy Tail, Jujutsu Kaisen, Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, Pulp Fiction, Spider-Man, Demon Slayer, Batman and even Bluey! (which Bluey is one of my favourite shows, so I could not resist) I need three more in 2024 then my walls in my room are complete
* I saw two Amazon Prime exclusive shows for the first time (Invincible and The Boys) and they both became two of my favourite shows upon seeing them. And hell, even 2023 was a great year to see them for the first time, as Omni-Man and Homelander are coming to Mortal Kombat 1 which made me a proud fan of both shows.
* I've gotten back into physical media collecting (well I stopped early on in the first half of the year when I got Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, and I thought I was not gonna buy anymore physical media after that, but fortunately, I saw on the internet that people I've known on social media still love collecting physical media as long as they are still releasing them (I'm glad my local JB is still selling them which is a good thing as people are still buying discs for movies in Australia as I saw, despite that Best Buy, on the other hand, is no longer selling them starting 2024), so because of that, I decided to get back into buying physical media again, which this year after I got TOTK back in May (which I pre ordered in January), I got Street Fighter 6 (which I still need to beat the story mode of that), Resident Evil 4 (still need to play more) for PS5, Mortal Kombat 1 (which I pre ordered, and hell, I even got on Steam recently so I can play it on either my laptop or the ROG Ally, which I’ll get to in a little bit, but at least I beat the Story mode of it), Super Mario Bros. Wonder (which I still need to beat), and Spider-Man 2 (which I also need to beat and get the Platinum trophy of it post-game) and I even started to buy physical media of movies/TV shows/anime series (I didn’t buy any shows this year though, maybe I will next year), which are Puss in Boots the Last Wish, The Wizard of Oz, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, My Dress-up Darling, Cinderella (the 1950 Disney Classic), Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (which I still own on DVD and I'll still keep the DVD, but might as well upgrade it to 4K) and recently, The Crow! (which I'll watch later on for its 30th anniversary and maybe again on Spooky month)
* I got the Platinum trophy for three more games (Spider-Man Remastered, Spider-Man Miles Morales, and Bluey the Video game, all for PS5) after Astro's Playroom), so hopefully in 2024 I hope to get more Platinum trophies for PlayStation games
* And lastly, to end the year off with a bang, I finally got the brand new ASUS ROG Ally, also with all the birthday and Christmas money I've saved! Since it is a Windows device and it functions as a gaming PC, I can use that as my new gaming PC (one of these days I will get a docking station for it so that way I can have my new Ally replace my gaming laptop (which I'll still keep for collection purposes) and use it as my new main gaming PC).
That being said, 2023 (despite all the bad things that happened then, including several that happened in my life) I thought was a mixed bag between shitty moments and good moments. It was a shitty year for the bad things that happened (which, like I said, I'm gonna keep things positive here), but the good things that happened to me in 2023 definitely unequivocally saved the year for me from being entirely bad (2020 was still the worst due to “we all know what happened then which I'm not gonna bother mentioned since I mostly focus on the positive oriented stuff, but hey at least it had a few good things that happened for me back then, such as when I got my PS5 pre-ordered and got very lucky when I got it purchased when it was still in shortage (when it first came out, anyway) in early December, and even pre-ordering my first PS5 title which is Spider-Man: Miles Morales before I got said console).

RTX Awarded $344 Million Contract to Modernize Electronics Unit for Missile Development Program
Raytheon, an RTX business, has been awarded a $344 million contract for the development of two missile variants – the SM-2 Block IIICU and SM-6 Block IU – which will be based on a common guidance section, where the electronics and software that guide a missile to its target are housed. The updated variants will share a newly designed guidance section, target detection device, independent flight termination system and electronics unit. This commonality will allow Raytheon to manufacture both missiles on a common production line, providing flexibility, scalability, and cost reductions. The development program is largely funded by Foreign Military Sales. The first users of these updated missiles will be the U.S., Australia, Canada, Japan, and Korea. Work on this contract is being conducted in Tucson, Arizona. While the common sub-sections will be developed for both missile configurations under this award, there is a follow-on contract expected later this year which will complete the missile level qualification events as well as At-Sea flight tests specific to the SM-2 Block IIICU configuration.

Minecraft RTX: everything we Know about the Builder's next Graphical Leap
Big changes are in store for everyone's favorite blocky builder.
Even though the highly anticipated Super Duper Graphics Pack for Minecraft was canceled, there's now a different official graphic update for the blocky building game. While graphics enhancements are among the top Minecraft mods, wouldn't it be wonderful if the game could be made to look officially prettier? That's exactly what Minecraft RTX does.
Minecraft RTX is an official Nvidia-designed patch for Minecraft adding real-time DXR raytracing to the Windows 10 version of the game. Nvidia describes the whole game as "refit" with path tracer. This dramatically alters the ways light, reflections and shadows interact within the game engine. Given how malleable Minecraft's procedurally generated sandboxes can be they're the ideal place to experiment with the technology.
If you're not worried about lighting that is fancy, Minecraft is still one of the top games for laptops to play on low-spec machines.
Here's everything you should be aware of about Minecraft RTX.
Minecraft RTX is out now
Minecraft with RTX has been removed from beta on the 8th of December, 2020. If you have a GeForce RTX graphics card, you can give RTX-enabled Minecraft an attempt.
Here are the Minecraft RTX system requirements
OS: Windows 10 64-bit GPU: DirectX hardware ray tracing capable GPUs like NVIDIA GeForce(r) RTX 20 Series and higher, and AMD Radeon(tm) RX 6000 Series and higher CPU: Intel Core i5 or equivalent RAM: More than 8 GB of RAM Minecraft version: 1.16.200 or higher How does ray tracing change Minecraft?
We played Minecraft RTX at PAX Australia in October, and it was so enjoyable it made us want to go to the grave and be reincarnated inside Minecraft. Take a look at our impressions.
The majority of Minecraft's appearance is influenced by Nvidia's implementation of ray tracing. Lighting is the biggest upgrade: taking advantage of real-time global illumination and the direction of the sun influences the brightness of all surfaces and the direction of shadows. In a game like Minecraft in which the world's environment can change drastically from moment to moment, it's an impressive improvement.
The same rule applies to emissive blocks like glowstones and lava and also new emissive blocks that will come bundled with the Minecraft RTX update.
The RTX update will also include real-time reflections. This means that all reflective surfaces including glass, reflect precisely the environment around them. The combination of real-time global illumination and real-time reflections creates a phenomenon known as specular reflectivity, which basically means light of any color will be evident on nearby reflective surfaces, even opaque ones.
The image below gives an excellent illustration of this: notice how the emissive, colored disco blocks are affecting the colors reflecting off the reflective surfaces that are adjacent to them. It's beautiful, ain't it?
But don't take my word for this, you must experience it yourself.
Watch the official Minecraft RTX gameplay video (opens in a new tab)
The above video was released in conjunction with the official Minecraft RTX announcement back in August of this year. The video gives you a compelling reason to be happy about the update. It features before and after footage that shows real-time global illumination and how it can make those glowing blocks sing.
A month later, Nvidia released yet another video (opens in a new tab) showing off Minecraft RTX-this time with the addition of its own custom-made blocks. The majority of them are emissive blocks, or else reflective and will be included with the Minecraft RTX update.
How much will Minecraft RTX cost?
The Minecraft RTX update is free to all existing owners of the Windows 10 edition of Minecraft. While Microsoft has confirmed (opens in a new tab) that ray-tracing support in Minecraft is not exclusive to Nvidia cards at the time of writing Nvidia's RTX series of cards are the most effective way to experience Minecraft RTX. And they're not cheap.

Nearly every aspect of Minecraft's appearance is affected by Nvidia's ray tracing implementation. This basically means that light of any hue will be visible on reflective surfaces in the vicinity even opaque ones.
This is an example: The image below shows how the emissive and colored disko blocks affect the colours reflecting off the reflective surfaces in beige. It's beautiful, ain't it?
But don't just take my word for it, you need to see it in action.

NVIDIA’s game streaming solution, GeForce NOW, was in beta for quite a while (although hit and miss with availability here in Australia) but when it left beta earlier this year NVIDIA promised that it would come to Chromebooks some time this year. While many services offer a temporary free trial, the GeForce Now Free plan is full access to the service with no long-term limitations. Uniquely, GeForce Now is currently the only major cloud gaming service offering a Free access plan. Borne from three gamers frustration with below average internet. Australian gamers will soon have access to GeForce NOW NVIDIAs. As a cloud-based device Chromebooks would be perfect for cloud gaming you would think but unfortunately the development of them on the platform has been lacking. In Australia, GeForce Now currently offers two tiers: Free and Priority at GeForce Now. GeForce NOW Australia is proudly powered by Pentanet. Pentanet, one of the fastest growing internet service providers in Australia, today confirmed. Chromebooks have been criticised by many in the past for many varied things and one of these criticisms has been its inability to play high end games.

Minecraft RTX Everything we Know about the Builder's Upcoming Graphical Leap
Blocky builders across the globe are undergoing major changes.
Although the highly anticipated Super Duper Graphics Pack for Minecraft was canceled and replaced with a different official update to the blocky building game. While graphical improvements are among the most popular Minecraft mods wouldn't it be great if the game were improved to look official? Well, that's what Minecraft RTX can do.
Minecraft RTX is an official Nvidia-developed patch for Minecraft which adds real-time DXR raytracing to the Windows 10 version of the game. Nvidia describes the whole game as "refit" using path tracing. This drastically alters the ways light, reflections and shadows interact in the game engine. Given how malleable Minecraft's sandboxes that are procedurally generated, it's the perfect playground to test the latest technology.
If you aren't worried about the lighting or glitz, Minecraft is still one of the best games on laptops that can be played on low-spec machines.
Here's everything you need be aware of about Minecraft RTX.
Minecraft RTX is out now
Minecraft with RTX has exited beta on December 8th, 2020. If you own a GeForce RTX graphics card you can give the RTX-enabled Minecraft a go yourself.
Here are the Minecraft RTX system requirements
OS: Windows 10 64 bit GPU: DirectX hardware ray tracing-capable GPUs like NVIDIA GeForce(r), RTX 20 Series or greater and AMD Radeon (tm) RX 6000 series and up CPU: Intel Core i5 or equivalent RAM 8 GB RAM Minecraft version: 1.16.200 or higher What is the impact of ray tracing on Minecraft?
We played Minecraft RTX at PAX Australia in October and it was so enjoyable it made us want to go to the grave and be reincarnated inside Minecraft. Read our impressions.
Every aspect of Minecraft's appearance is affected by Nvidia's implementation of ray tracing. Lighting is the most significant improvement that takes advantage of real-time global illumination, the direction of the sun influences the brightness of all surfaces as well as the direction of shadows. In a game like Minecraft in which the world's landscape can shift dramatically from moment-to-moment, it's quite a remarkable upgrade.
The same applies to emissive block, like glowstones and lava as well as new emissive blocks that come bundled with the Minecraft RTX update.
The RTX update will also incorporate real-time reflections. This means that all reflective surfaces, including glass, will reflect exactly the environment around them. Real-time global illumination coupled with real-time reflections result in "specular reflective'. This basically means that light of any hue can be seen on reflective surfaces in the vicinity even opaque ones.
The image below is an excellent illustration of this: notice how the emissive, colored disco blocks are affecting colors reflecting off the adjacent reflective surfaces in beige. It's beautiful, ain't it?
Don't just take my word for this, you must see it in action.
Watch the official Minecraft RTX gameplay video (opens in a new tab)
The above video released in conjunction with the official Minecraft RTX announcement back in August of this year. As you can see, the video gives you a convincing reason to be excited about the update with before and after footage that shows the effects of real-time global illumination and how it will really make those emissive glowstone blocks sound. strongcraft
A month later, Nvidia released yet another video (opens in a new tab) showing off Minecraft RTX-this time with the inclusion of its own custom-designed blocks. The majority of them are emissive, or reflective ones, and will come bundled with the Minecraft RTX update.
How much will Minecraft RTX cost?
The Minecraft RTX update will be free for all existing users of the Windows 10 edition of Minecraft. While Microsoft has confirmed (opens in new tab) that ray-tracing support in Minecraft will not be exclusive to Nvidia cards, at the time of writing, Nvidia's RTX series of cards are the best method to experience Minecraft RTX. And they're not cheap.
