Day 17 - Victoriaville to St-Agapit – 71 km
Trail: mostly flat; 17 km paved, 54 km unpaved; A
The trail took me along a highway, then along a tree-lined trail through the countryside for the majority of the day.
The Quality Inn & Suites was my home last night. It was clean, comfortable and bike friendly offering a locked room for overnight storage. Breakfast was included. It was about 1 km off the trail. Recommended.
The first 10 km of the trail was along a highway. Noisy and not so pretty.
Along the trail there were plenty of covered rest stops every 5 km or so.
It started to rain in Princeville. I decided to continue another 10 km to Plesissville before taking a break. The closest restaurant was about 1.5 km off the trail, a little inconvenient. The stop was a welcome opportunity to dry off and warm up.
Princeville, like most towns in Quebec, had a large church with silver roof and spire, typical of churches found throughout Québec.
The longer it rained the more the trail became spongy, and the more difficult it was to pedal. I found myself constantly weaving left to right on the trail looking for firm ground.
I had to be very careful at wooden bridges (almost every bridge was wooden) and some may know that I've had a couple of bad spills on wet wooden bridges. The one above had me in mind. Someone spread a yoga mat across the whole bridge so that if I did fall, I wouldn't hurt myself.
I stopped for lunch at a casse-croûte (snack bar) in Lyster, again giving me a chance to dry off.
The rain stopped and the sun came out about an hour before reaching St-Agapit. When I arrived at my destination it was sunny and warm.
My accommodations were a giant surprise. With dumb luck I chose to sleep at a gourmet restaurant. Thank you chef Gaston for an amazing dinner and great hospitality.
Local trail names were Parc Linéaire des Bois Francs and Parc Régional Linéaire de la MRC de Lotbinière.
