What Are the Crucial Steps in Your Rug Cleaning and Repair?
Beginning: We all love the look, appeal, comfort, and beautiful scent of a well-cleaned house rug. It adds that extra coziness and attraction to the interior space. However, it must be noted that rug cleaning and repair aren’t just about vacuuming and airing outside. At times, it’s necessary to clean thoroughly with rug shampoos (avoid chemical cleaners) as much as possible to preserve your rug's texture and look. There are several steps to an effective, efficient, trouble-free, and damage-free rug cleaning service and routine.
Steps to Ensure Professional Results with the Best Turkish Rug Cleaning Service
(a). Know the Type of Rug You Have.
First, it is good to know what type of rug you have before making the necessary cleaning preparations. Whether it’s a DIY project or reliance on the best professional rug cleaning in Santa Clara, thoroughness will take you far. Be it Oriental or Turkish, be it an area, shag, or whether it is a woolen, silk, jute, bamboo, faux fur, faux hide, microfiber, or polyester, among other common fibers. This determines the method and products for care and cleaning.
(b). Choose Professional Rug Cleaning and Repair Services.
As much as it may seem more affordable and convenient for a DIY job, professional rug repair and cleaning services are way too affordable and fast. With the use of diverse standard tools and cleaning agents, it saves you time and money. They are fast and thorough and deliver quality results as promised.
(c). Clear Tiny Dust and Dirt Particles.
Rugs easily trap dust and dirt particles as they are always stepped on and used. This will pile up and can cause breathing and health-related issues. It also becomes a haven for pathogens, bacteria, and mold to hide. Vacuuming before cleaning removes all these elements trapped in its fibers. It may not remove minor and major stains, which the special shampoos and cleaning tools can work on well.
(d). Mix the Rug Cleaner Shampoos and Do a Color Test.
Rug color testing is to ensure there’s no loss of color upon applying the cleaning agents. The best professional oriental rug cleaners in my area have a thorough inspection process to evaluate rug condition and determine the best cleaning approach.
Tumblr media
(e). Proceed to Wash the Rug in Systematic Brush Strokes.
A well-balanced rug-washing shampoo mix will start the process. It is good to follow standard brushing strokes that draw away the dust and dirt residues from the rug fibers.
(f). Rinse and Remove Excess Water and Cleaning Agent.
Rug and carpet cleaning can be hard to remove if you are not thorough in every step. This may present discoloration due to the remaining cleaning agent. Ensure all is drained and removed for perfect results.
(g). Dry and Inspect Rug for Final.
Let the rug dry or use a gentle vacuum dryer. Please note that some fibers are not cut out for dryers rather than air drying. Using the right tools matters in the drying process. Inspect the rug for any inconsistencies and set it for reuse.
Conclusion: Having a decent, clean, and well-maintained rug has a lot of benefits. Besides keeping your home spaces cozy, warm, and hygienic, you are assured of the longevity and maintenance of the homes floors. With a Turkish rug cleaning service as well as an expert rug repair service in Santa Clara, you are set for decent times.

US government moves to stop potential banking crisis (AP) The U.S. government took extraordinary steps Sunday to stop a potential banking crisis after the historic failure of Silicon Valley Bank, assuring depositors at the failed financial institution that they would be able to access all of their money quickly. The announcement came amid fears that the factors that caused the Santa Clara, California-based bank to fail could spread. In a sign of quickly the financial bleeding was occurring, regulators announced that New York-based Signature Bank had failed and was being seized on Sunday. At more than $110 billion in assets, Signature Bank is the third-largest bank failure in U.S. history. The Treasury Department, Federal Reserve and FDIC said Sunday that all Silicon Valley Bank clients will be protected and have access to their funds and announced steps designed to protect the bank’s customers and prevent more bank runs. Regulators had to rush to close Silicon Valley Bank, a financial institution with more than $200 billion in assets, on Friday when it experienced a traditional run on the bank where depositors rushed to withdraw their funds all at once. Some prominent Silicon Valley executives feared that if Washington didn’t rescue the failed bank, customers would make runs on other financial institutions in the coming days.
Insurers slashed Hurricane Ian payouts far below damage estimates, documents and insiders reveal (Washington Post) When insurance adjuster Jordan Lee entered the cream-colored house battered by Hurricane Ian, the smell from the rain-soaked carpet made it hard to breathe. Piles of pink insulation covered the worn, white couches, he recalled, and poured from the collapsed ceiling, left gaping from the storm’s 150 mph winds. He photographed debris flecked on the carpet and walls, chunks of roof in the yard, and broken screens and gutters around a pool filled with palm fronds. It would be about $200,000 to repair the damage, the licensed adjuster calculated in his estimate for Heritage Property & Casualty Insurance Co. But when Lee checked in on his report about 10 days later, it had been drastically whittled down, with entire portions removed. The homeowners were slated to receive a total of $27,000. The changes were made without Lee’s knowledge or consent, he said, but his name was still on the final report, according to documents seen by The Washington Post. Lee and other adjusters contracted by regional insurance carriers say that managers have been changing their work by lowering totals, rewriting descriptions of damage and deleting accompanying photos without their approval. After years of more frequent and intense storms, national carriers have pulled back from the market and smaller, regional carriers with smaller financial reserves jumped in. In the wake of Hurricane Ian, those companies have been aggressively seeking to limit payouts to policyholders by altering the work of licensed adjusters, according to a Washington Post investigation. As a result, homeowners are left footing much of the bill for repairs, exposing an untenable gap between the cost of storm damage and what insurers are willing to pay to fix it.
Burning eyes, dead fish; red tide flares up on Florida coast (AP) Residents are complaining about burning eyes and breathing problems. Dead fish have washed up on beaches. A beachside festival has been canceled, even though it wasn’t scheduled for another month. Florida’s southwest coast experienced a flare-up of the toxic red tide algae this week, setting off concerns that it could continue to stick around for a while. The current bloom started in October. Red tide, a toxic algae bloom that occurs naturally in the Gulf of Mexico, is worsened by the presence of nutrients such as nitrogen in the water. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission warns people to not swim in or around red tide waters over the possibility of skin irritation, rashes and burning and sore eyes. People with asthma or lung disease should avoid beaches affected by the toxic algae.
In Peru’s Andes, scars of protest deaths cut deep as families seek justice (Reuters) In a small bedroom of a tin-roofed home in Peru’s southern city of Juliaca, Asunta Jumpiri holds the torn red and black sweatshirt of her 15-year-old son, whose dark eyes stare back at her from half a dozen framed photos around the room. Her son Brayan was wearing it when he was shot in the back of the head on Jan. 9, the deadliest day of violence Peru has seen in over twenty years that has cut a deep scar in the country’s Andean south. Brayan had come into town with his mother, 9-year-old younger brother and pregnant older sister to visit the doctor. Brayan then asked to go to an Internet cafe and they arranged to meet up later at a nearby crossroads, his mother recounted. Instead, Brayan was caught up in the protests. Security camera footage obtained by Reuters shows the moment he was shot. Peru, home to some 35 million people, huge copper reserves and the ancient Incan city Machu Picchu, is grappling to restore stability after months of anti-government protests and clashes that have left 49 people dead, with roads blockaded around the country and calls for the president and Congress to step down.
Brazil’s Lula reins in army (AP) When rioters stormed Brazil’s top government buildings in January to dispute the outcome of the presidential election, many soldiers stood by as far-right protesters broke windows, defecated in offices and destroyed valuable art. The images from Brasilia that day still haunt the left-leaning government of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. He has strived ever since to ensure that military leaders defend South America’s largest democracy and stay out of politics. The threat isn’t just hypothetical. Brazil has lived through four military coups—the most recent one in 1964, followed by two decades of brutal dictatorship. Bolsonaro, a former army captain, appointed more than 6,000 military officers to jobs across his government and revived an annual commemoration of the 1964 coup to stoke nostalgia for the days of military rule. Lula has already tapped more than 100 civilians to replace military officers Bolsonaro appointed to key positions, and he has moved oversight of the country’s intelligence agency to his chief of staff’s office, among other changes.
German airport strikes force hundreds of flight cancellations (Washington Post) Airport staff across northern Germany are set to strike on Monday, forcing the cancellations of hundreds of flights, with tens of thousands of passengers expected to be impacted. Verdi, the regional trade union, called for staff to strike at airports in Berlin, Hamburg, Hanover and Bremen. At Berlin Brandenburg Airport, security staff are striking because of unsuccessful collective bargaining over pay for night and weekend shifts. The collective action is the latest in a number of labor demonstrations across Europe this winter. The strike at Berlin’s airport has forced 200 departing flights to be canceled, affecting 27,000 passengers, a notice on the city’s website said. Lufthansa said in an email that it was expecting “massive disruptions to flight operations and a significant number of flight cancellations” on Monday in Germany.
Defending the last road out of Bakhmut (Washington Post) Russia has committed hordes of soldiers and mercenaries to capturing Bakhmut. Those fighters have pushed Ukrainian troops to the city’s western edge and, like an alligator’s maw, are closing in from the south and north, aiming to encircle and annihilate them. The maneuver has cut off virtually all roads—except Highway T0504, a two-lane hardball that connects to Bakhmut’s southwestern edge and is so vital that troops have branded it “the highway of life.” “It’s the only road left in which we can evacuate the wounded, evacuate the dead,” said Maj. Oleksandr Pantsernyi, the commander of the 24th Separate Assault Battalion, one of the units responsible for defending the corridor. Just as important is the road’s role in sustaining the fight, he said, by enabling the movement of ammunition, water and fresh troops east. “If we don’t do our job, the defense of Bakhmut will last for a day or two,” Pantsernyi, 26, said. “And all people who are there will stay there forever.” Russia’s forces also know the road’s importance, Ukrainian soldiers said, and have tried to shred it with artillery and force their enemy into the mud. Although there is another pathway that branches off from T0504 and curves northwest out of the city, soldiers said that road hems too close to enemy lines and indirect fire. Using it, they said without irony, is “Russian roulette.”
The missing after the earthquake (NYT) When a powerful earthquake struck southern Turkey last month, a lawyer concluded that her relatives had been buried in the rubble of their collapsed apartment. Three days later, rescue workers recovered the bodies of her mother and brother, she said, but days, then weeks, then a month passed with no sign of her father. His disappearance plunged her into a terrifying mystery faced by families across the quake zone whose loved ones are still missing. “I can’t find my father anywhere in the world—not under the rubble, not in the hospitals, not anywhere,” said the lawyer, Mervat Nasri, who is from Syria. Five weeks after a 7.8-magnitude earthquake and a powerful aftershock struck southern Turkey, killing 47,000 people, many others remain unaccounted for, adding ambiguity to the temblor’s complete toll and leaving families in an agonizing limbo. More than 6,000 people were also killed across the border in northern Syria.
IS group says it killed more than 35 ‘Christians’ in Congo (AP) The Islamic State group has issued a statement claiming responsibility for killing more than 35 people and wounding dozens in eastern Congo. In the statement, posted Friday by Aamaq, the militants’ news agency, it said it killed “Christians” with guns and knives and destroyed their property in Mukondi village in North Kivu province. It also published a photo of the houses on fire. The announcement comes after local authorities confirmed that at least 45 people were killed last week in several attacks on different villages by rebels from the Allied Democratic Forces, a militia with links to IS. Conflict has been simmering in eastern Congo for decades as more than 120 armed groups fight for power, influence and resources, and some to protect their communities.
It’s A Plastic Ocean (CBS News) According to a research article published in the journal Plos One, our oceans have seen a “rapid increase” in levels of plastic pollution since 2005. The scientists behind the paper say that the oceans are now home to a “plastic smog” made up of 171 trillion plastic particles. The study used 11,777 samples taken from the oceans’ surface level in order to determine the levels of ocean plastics at different points in time, then cross-checked those levels with policy changes. They found that, as laws regulating levels of ocean plastics decreased, levels of plastic went up. They also projected that the rate at which plastic enters the oceans will increase 2.6 times by 2040.

MY EXPERIENCE OF BEING STUCK IN THE CALIFORNIA FLOODS OF JANUARY 2023
Tumblr media
As a traveller, I have always been fascinated by the beauty of California. However, in January 2023, my trip to California took an unexpected turn. The Golden State experienced severe flooding in many regions, and unfortunately, my Central Coast Road trip coincided with the floods, and I had to change my travel plans accordingly. You can read more about that in my previous blog post. I will share what I witnessed during the California floods in this article.
Although California is no stranger to natural disasters, the floods in January 2023 were terrible. A sequence of nine atmospheric rivers hammered California during a three-week period in January 2023, bringing over 700 landslides, power outages affecting more than 500,000 people and causing financial damages now expected to exceed $30 billion. The floods in California in 2023 were a result of heavy rainfall from December 31, 2022, to January 25, 2023, in a small time window — 400% to 600% above average in that time — caused several rivers and streams to overflow their banks, leading to severe flooding in many parts of the state. Most impacted were parts of Southern California, the California Central Coast, Northern California, and Nevada. From north to south in the Golden State this week, flooding, mudslides, or threats have led to evacuations, road closures, and desperate rescues. In the first ten days of January, at least 20 people died in California storms and flooding — more than the number of civilians who died in wildfires in the last two years.
Some of the worst affected cities that I happened to experience first-hand were Santa Cruz, San Jose, Monterey, Paso Robles, and Oxnard. In this article, let me share what I witnessed during the California floods.
Flooding In San Jose
San Jose, the largest city in Silicon Valley, was one of the areas heavily affected by the California floods. The floods caused significant damage to the city’s infrastructure, with roads and highways washed out, homes lost power, and major roadways turned into impassable rivers leading to school closures and limited mobility exacerbated by fallen trees and mudslides. High winds gusting to nearly 50 miles per hour, accompanied by heavy rain and thunderstorms, battered Santa Clara county.
The Guadalupe River, which runs through the city, was flowing to its brink, and there was a significant fear of damaging the nearby homes, businesses, and roads. At least eight Santa Clara County roads were closed.
Due to torrential rainfall, I couldn’t get out for days. Restaurants closed early, and food deliveries were unavailable. Those without cars could not even get to nearby stores. The entire city was dull, and there were flood warnings everywhere. I was stranded in my apartment, and it was impossible to move around.
Flooding In Santa Cruz
Similarly, Santa Cruz, a coastal city in Central California, was one of the hardest hit by the floods. The town experienced significant damage to its infrastructure, including roads, bridges, and buildings. The city’s downtown area was also heavily affected, with many shops and restaurants forced to close their doors temporarily. When I was there, I was confined to my hotel Dream Inn as there was a major flood warning. The Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park was closed, and part of the scenic 3-Mile Drive was washed out.
One of the most notable landmarks affected by the floods in Santa Cruz was the iconic Capitola Wharf. The wharf, a popular spot for fishing and recreation for over a century, was severely damaged by the flooding and is now unusable for at least a year. The Capitola Wharf was a beloved icon in the community, and its destruction has been deeply felt by locals and visitors alike. The wharf had been a gathering place for generations of families, who would come to fish, picnic, and enjoy the beautiful views of the coastline.
The damage to the wharf is just one example of the extensive destruction caused by the floods in Santa Cruz. Many homes and businesses in the area were also severely impacted, with some entirely destroyed by the flooding.
Flooding In Monterey Bay
Monterey County, the scenic coastal area about 100 miles south of San Francisco that includes Big Sur and the famed golf courses of Pebble Beach, too was heavily impacted by California flooding that almost transformed the Monterey Peninsula into an island. The towns of Carmel, Monterey and Pacific Grove are also at risk of being isolated from the rest of the county. Highways 1 and 68 were the most vulnerable to flooding from the Salinas River. More than 17,000 residents living in low-lying areas near the river were ordered to evacuate, and six emergency shelters were set up for evacuees.
The city’s famous Cannery Row area was inundated by seawater. Many of the historic buildings in the area suffered damage, and there were concerns about the impact on the city’s tourism industry.
All sea adventures were closed, including my anticipated whale-watching tour, but as they say — better safe than sorry.

You clean your bathroom more than any other room in the house. But despite how much you clean it, things never seem to get as clean as they do. Cleaning the bathroom can be an overwhelming task when you don’t know what you’re doing. It doesn’t help that there are tons of cleaning products, tools and techniques to learn and apply. A professional maid service Santa Clara reveals the common mistakes people make when cleaning their bathrooms.
Mistake: Using the Same Sponge Everywhere
The worst mistake you can make is using the same sponge for multiple purposes. This can cause bacteria to spread and contaminate surfaces like the toilet and sink, which are harder to clean. Even if you wash your sponges after each use, it's not enough. To avoid this, designate a sponge or cloth for each surface in your bathroom. Use one sponge or rag for sinks, one for toilets, one for bathtubs and showers, etc. That way you won't be spreading bacteria all over your home with just one cleaning tool!
Mistake: Not Running the Exhaust Fan
The exhaust fan is your best friend. It will suck out all the nasty, stinky air in the bathroom and replace it with fresh, clean air. If you don't run it, you'll be stuck with that gross smell inside the bathroom for a long time. Also, if you have any allergies, running an exhaust fan can prevent stuffy noses or other allergic reactions from developing.
Mistake: Using the Wrong Cleaning Products
One of the most common mistakes people make when cleaning a bathroom is using the wrong cleaning products. Common household cleaners are often not strong enough to cut through the dirt and residue in a dirty bathroom. To avoid this, you can use commercial-grade cleaners that are specially formulated for bathrooms.
Professionals of house cleaning Santa Clara know how to get it right because they have all the tools needed to clean any surface, no matter what its condition may be. They also have the experience needed to know what kinds of products work best in different environments.
Mistake: Ignoring to Dust First
The bathroom is a breeding ground for germs and bacteria, and when you clean the bathroom, you want to be sure that you do your best to disinfect it. This means that before you start cleaning, it's important to dust and vacuum first. Dusting removes any dust or other particles from the surface of the toilet and can help reduce the spread of germs.
Bathrooms can be one of the hardest areas of your home to clean, but it doesn’t have to be this way! By avoiding the aforementioned bathroom cleaning mistakes, you can make your bathrooms shine. Even better, hiring a professional residential cleaning Santa Clara company can keep your bathroom in top shape in the long run.
