Getting to visit Spa Island was a welcome relief to Ikkaku. The past few years hadn't taken away the thrill or danger of piracy for the Hearts, especially with the Straw Hats still stirring up trouble across the Grand Line. So, the Hearts had opted to take a vacation to recover from whatever latest madness the new Pirate King had stirred up.

It was even better that she would get to visit Ulti. The engineer had come to enjoy chatting with her when they crossed paths. The other woman was brash and rather fun in her own way, and there was no bad blood between them since Wano. But Ikkaku could also admit by the time she'd gotten over to Ulti, she was rather exhausted. She'd been stopped to chat by several other people on her way across the dock, and it seemed no matter how hard she tried to get out of those conversations quickly, another was just around the corner.

Thankfully, chatting with Ulti tended to recharge Ikkaku's social battery, though she could recognize that perhaps when taken out of context she'd taken her statement the wrong way.

"Funny you should mention that," she stated, chuckling a bit at the response to her analogy. "I've actually got shark mermaid heritage from my grandmother's side, so I can actually grow my teeth back. It's a nifty trick to have if they get damaged, and I guess it means I can have infinitely more conversations. Though, some are more enjoyable than others. I'm definitely happiest chatting with you right now."

Plopping down into a nearby bench, Ikkaku adjusted her sunglasses. The sun shining off of the ocean was bright but beautiful. "My grandmother actually did have shark teeth, too. She was considered the most beautiful woman on Joras. Gramps always said those teeth of hers were part of why he found her so gorgeous. Of course, she also used them to bite off the fingers of a man who thought she should leave Gramps for him. Now that's true love right there!" she laughed.

Ikkaku gestured to the empty seat beside her so Ulti could sit while they caught up. "Anyway, how have you been lately? That brother of yours still driving you up a wall?"

Somehow the mermaid was able to swim upstream to get into the country of Wano. She did not know where she was or what had happened as she was just traveling with a group of sea kings before getting caught in a current. Now, she was tangled up in a fisherman's net in the river in the middle of a city filled with flowers. Thrashing around only seemed to make the tangling worse which caused her to groan. Nyssa was not trying to draw attention to herself, but it appeared her noise caused a crowd to start to form.

When humans were trying to get close to the merfolk to help her, she would wiggle and swing at them using her tail to cause them to fall. If she had full access to all of her tail muscles she knew she would have enough strength to break their necks as they were sent flying. Finally, the bluenette was able to break the net off and started to unwrap herself as the citizens quickly started to run away due to the Beast Pirates. They were shocked to see a mermaid in Wano and some were talking about capturing it to eat it or just to put it in a tank.

Nyssa could see the pirates had both sides of the river surrounded and it was not deep enough for her to be able to escape from them. Her eyes narrowed as she was looking for a way out.

If there was one thing that stood out about the tobiroppo it was the fact that the group was prone to gossip about each other. So it wouldn't have been too unlikely that a certain member's 'betrayal' reached the ears of the other beast pirates. Such as the case with Ulti.

It had been only a few years since the raid of Onigashima took place. Of course during such a time the shinuchi was focused on aiding her younger brother, that she barely heard anything about X Drake. Much later during the aftermath she only heard in passing from one of the surveillance 'marys' of his traitorous deeds.

However even this was vaguely put.

And now, she had run into him again.

"Do you mind explaining yourself??" Ulti insisted, her arms folding across her chest. Of course she was going to demand him for answers. Perhaps it was her way of letting him finally tell her his side. Though whether or not she would be understanding completely depended on his answer.

People care this much about his brat? He finds this completely ridiculous.

"Why is the enemy and one of my own crew asking if I speak to Yamato or not? I have and it's none of your business what we talk about. I'd speak with him more if he gets rid of certain ridiculous notions!"

If he wasn't going off about Oden 24/7 Kaido was sure Yamato would make a better booze runner than any of his men currently were.

"Shanks? He's an old friend of my Gramps'. I think my old man was like an honorary uncle to him. Shanks has definitely admitted Gramps still scares the shit out of him. Might be part of why he looks out for me, but I'd say we're genuine friends regardless. He puts my drinks on his tab every time we cross paths in a tavern. He did piss off Law that one time he decided to 'put me under his protection' by putting tiny versions of his flag in my hair. But he also saved my life when I was lost at sea and helped me get back to my crew."

Of course, things had briefly gotten more complicated during that last occasion due to a drunken incident, but that was water under the bridge. Shanks was a good man, and Ikkaku was happy to have him as part of her life. Especially when she got to troll him in some way. Had to carry on the Ghostlight's legacy of tormenting a certain redhead, after all.

The morning was much like any other on New Spa Island; guests rose up from bed to enjoy the luxurious meals prepared by the staff in the dining room, the facilities began to open up during the calm, and finally, new ships from all over the grand line began to pour in. Meanwhile, the Duke of the Island watched the glistening beams dance of the crystal blue sea, enjoying a cup of tea and a blueberry scone. He enjoyed the little home he established in red hair territory, no worries of marines when you had proper protection.

Just as he was going to take another sip, a ringing came from the transponder snail on his desk. Brows furrowed as he took the call. "I'll be right there." A scowl formed upon his lips; why couldn't some people just act normal when on vacation? Making his way down to the artificial island's port, he saw the source of trouble: a group of pirates getting too touchy-feely with his employees. His fists blackened with haki, just in case negotiations went south.

"Gentlemen, it seems you have forgotten the rules here. My clientele all happen to be pirates from around the world, and I don't mind a few rules being broken, but you crossed the line when you touched my crew. Apologize and leave. Now." Arms folded, icy glares exchanged. A fight was about to begin, but just as blows were about to be traded, a wrathful demand for the rowdy band to shut it echoed throughout the port. Before Wriothesley could even react, a young woman jumped from her ship, smashed her head into the other captain, and sent them flying onto their ship, and the boat itself soared out of the island's line of sight.

"I...." His gaze rested upon the unknown hero, a short woman with radiant blue hair and pink hues that looked like they could kill. He knew that face. A beast pirate with a four-hundred million beri bounty, a rare sight in red-haired waters. She was steaming; for whatever reason, though, she saved him from what could've been a brutal brawl. His chest filled with gratitude, and his mouth forming a smile, he gave the woman a bow of gratitude. "You have my thanks. For both your assistance and understanding. Why don't we get your ship and luggage all settled, and we can check you in, Miss....?"

He knew better than traverse the territory of another Emperor, especially if said Emperor happened to be Kaido. Wano Country was very much forbidden territory, not because he was told so but because he set that boundary himself. Knowing the King of Beasts, Red Haired Shanks could only assume and imagine what would transpire if word reached Kaido. It was a risk he was unwilling to take. Emperor going against Emperor in the times they were in at that point could be fatal and fate changing as well.

Unfortunately for him and the rest of the Red Hair Pirates, they were running low on supplies, and the only and closest port they had was an island just outside Wano Country territory. Even though that was a risk itself, they really had no other choice.

Advising his crew to be careful and try to be as inconspicuous as possible, the red haired pirate captain made his way through the marketplace and into one of the bars. His plan not to stick out like a sore thumb hadn't really come to fruition as the rest of the patrons wore traditional Wano robes, though they didn't pay him much mind --- yet.

Grey eyes found somebody else that stuck out, and it didn't take him too much guessing who she owed her allegiance to.

❝ You don't happen to be part of the Beast Pirates, do you? ❞

The question was more whispered than spoken, the redhead still weary of unwanted attention.
