there is not an ounce of emotion in her remark, as if she were talking about th weather, as if she did not even understand nor know the meaning of the word sadness. she supposes, albeit it is merely a guess, that the mermaid must feel angry, which is an emotion Vanessa recognizes and thus, understands.

" i have heard the ladies in waiting, they say you are ... envious? is that the word? " another concept Vanessa understands, and thus, can speak of with the tiniest of smirks on her face. not because she is rejoicing in the mermaid's suffering, but because she finds it amusing that the girl would care so much about a human man to begin with.

" you will never win. not with her, " the sea witch is a cunning creature, and between weaved seaweed and foam, she has placed a part of her conniving within her creation. Vanessa knows how to play according to Ursula's rules, " you should return to the ocean, little mermaid. you suffer when you walk the shore, and you suffer when the human prince looks at me, " as she connects their gazes through the reflection of the vanity's mirror where she sits, Vanessa's eyes shimmer in silver, a feline in the darkness staring at a mouse, " go home. maybe that way she'll spare your life. “ what are you doing awake, my little shell? ” brow knit with concern, ariel fusses and smooths a hand across melody’s hair, pressing her cool palm to the girl’s cheek, her brow, the delicate back of her neck. her dressing gown flutters about her ankles as she leans back to get a good look at her face. “ are you alright? ”

❝ I can't sleep, ❞ Melody mumbles, leaning into her mother's touch with a sigh.

Whenever she shuts her eyes, all she can see is the sickly green magic of the corrupted trident forcing her friends, her mother and her grandfather to bow. Her beloved father lying limp in her mother's arms. When she starts to drift off, she remembers the burn in her lungs as she scrabbled frantically at the wall of ice Morgana had locked her behind.

She still dreams about the terrifying fortress of jagged ice that grew up under Morgana, about the huge, threatening beast Undertow had become.

Everyone she cared about could have been enslaved, or even worse. And it was all her fault. She who had run away, who had stolen her own grandfather's property, had willingly handed it over to a sea witch to spite her mother. All of it was her fault !

♦ What was a mildly annoying thing that has happened to you rp wise?

nothing ever mildly annoys me. it either annoys the shit out of me or i have no opinion lmao. but if i had to say something, it’s writing starters that never get replied to. if i calculated all the time i’ve spent writing starters that never get replies, it’d probably add up to months worth of time wasted. i hate wasting time, especially when i could have been devoting that time to drafts or threads people were actually invested in. 

☢ What fads/trends are you so over?

literally all of them, but probably the ones that are most grating to me are ones that completely take away from readibility/visibility: blurry posts, floating orbs, -.000000000002 font size, tiny ass icons, monochromatic overly contrasted psds to the point where you can’t tell what the fuck you’re looking at. like i get having an ~*aesthetic*~ but the entire point of having a roleplay blog is for people to write, and you know, read your stuff. how am i supposed to do that when the font is 2px light grey on dark grey bg with floating orbs constantly obscuring the text and you have to hover over the posts just to make them unblurry??? how is that helpful???? or when nav links blend into the bg so much you can’t find them???? i just. im blind ok. don’t make this harder for me!!!!

☀ What's your rp pet peeve?

i have................. so many. soooooooooooooooooooo many. but let me just go ahead and be the devil’s advocate here. i hate purple prose. i haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate it. i mean, don’t get me wrong, i love poetic writing and i love clever metaphors, and i know quite a few rpers who do it well and still make it readable and understandable. BUT!! there’s a difference between executing it well and just.... spitting out a thesaurus without actually knowing what you’re writing. i’ve come across so many “purple prose” posts that have all these words that are within the same realm of what they’re trying to go for, but don’t actually mean what they’re trying to convey and it just makes for a very messy, amateur attempt at poetic writing tbh.
