“It wasn’t a date,” Kara corrects.

It really wasn’t a date. It had been a chance to catch up, to sit side by side in increasingly comfortable silence, to slip admissions around mouthfuls of gooey marshmallows. Wonderful, but not a date. There would be plenty of time for that.
