#godzilla singular point #godzilla singular point spoilers #spoilers #…I watched this anime months ago #I still think about this scene #if she had to die Stupidly #at least it was done in such a relatable way #is a cat’s (or any animal’s) life worth more than a human’s? no #but it’s still Worth Something #and a child’s life is definitely worth something #neither the child nor cat fully understand what is happening other than GIANT SCARY MONSTERS #cat just wants AWAY. child wants her cat SAFE TOO #so this brilliant adult whose research team is desperately trying to solve this crisis best they can #goes out and risks her own life (and fails) #because she trusted her protege and team to handle things in the event if something DID happen to her #but also because while Many Lives Worth More Than One is /true/ …thinking that way is very dangerous. #become callouse to a single life (and/or an animal’s life) and it’s far too easy for No Lives mattering at all #anyway. it was a very Ghibli Moment. (and pretty sure Miazaki designed the Kaiju) #(and I don’t think this guy can work on a project without having his philosophy included) #and well. a major theme is Death Happens. Failure Happens. But Life and Sacrifices Both Matter #(without that theme the (spoiler!!) time paradox simply wouldn’t be a satisfying conclusion) #life has to matter. and with that how someone dies has to matter since they are a life lost
