2022 was probably my least favorite year for kpop since i started listening to kpop. like, month-to-month, week-to-week, it had the lowest percentage of songs that i loved of any of the years that i’ve been a kpop fan. there were some great songs, for sure, but i’m just saying overall. and that had a number of factors, it can’t be blamed on one thing in particular. also, it just comes down to my own personal taste. like maybe it was my least favorite year, but someone else had like dozens of songs that they love. it’s possible.
but 2023 so far is like blowing it out of the water lol. it’s only march, so i cant extrapolate and figure out how the rest of the year will go, because obviously nobody really knows that, but at the very least on the month-to-month week-to-week basis, the ratio of great songs to underwhelming songs is really high in the great songs’ favor. like i think a lot of the stuff so far has been really good, and i’ve only been disappointed by a few things i’ve heard. i have a top 3 kpop songs of the year so far, and each of those 3 songs came out in each of the 3 months. which is pretty good lol, i hope that trend continues.
and like a bunch of groups who kinda disappointed or underwhelmed me last year are recovering and putting out stuff that’s not just better than last year, but some of their best songs ever. i’ve been pretty impressed by the quality of stuff lately. knock on wood.
