Unexpected meetings - Katrina Gorry x Morgan!reader
Tumblr media
Prompt #20 - Alex Morgan little sister (5 years younger) - dating ___. Alex finds you two making out after a national team friendly - USA vs ___. Alex ‘threatens’ ___.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
2018
The smaller body in your arms started to turn, which causes you to slowly wake from your peaceful sleep. You look into Katrina's brown eyes and melt instantly. Wordlessly, you both lean forward and envelope each others lips in a soft kiss. Katrina's small hands wandered up your sleep shirt, tracing the outline of your abs as you both continued to kiss. A loud siren like alarm blasts through the room, causing you two to jump apart before laughing.
"I told you to change that babe"
Katrina laughs as she sits up and stretches, showing off her muscular back that makes you drool.
Just as you open your mouth to speak, you hear a loud banging on the door.
"Y/N/N get your ass up! You're late to breakfast"
Your lovely older sister yells through the door.
"Okay I'll be down in 10"
"Make it 5 or I'll bench today"
You roll your eyes at the lame threat, knowing she can't actually do that.
A text is quickly sent out to the group chat of the entire team excluding your sister saying you need them to distract Alex to sneak a girl out. Thankfully, no comments were made apart from the usual Sonnett and Kelley but you choose to ignore them most of the time.
You got ready in your training gear while Katrina quickly found her Matildas clothes around the room. You walk up to Katrina and wrap your arms around her waist tightly, so she can't leave. You lightly kiss her jaw and trail down her neck. She moans slightly but realises you both need to go.
"C'mon babe, we need to go"
Katrina says trying to get out of your grip.
"Just let me hold you longer"
You mumble into her.
Your cuddle session by your phone ringing to say you have a text.
Kelley: We have Al distracted, get the girl out now!
"Right let's go baby"
You put on your slides and grab the keycard, as well as your phone before racing out the door.
In the elevator, you once again hold Katrina in your arms and sigh into her hair. Katrina turns around and kisses you quickly before the doors open. As they open, you see the meeting slash breakfast room door shut and you know this is your chance. You both walk hand in hand across the foyer and out the front entrance, letting out a breath of relief. You bid Katrina a goodbye and that you'll see her later. You watched her walk back to the hotel, which was only next door, so you know she's safe.
Short stack 💘: stop watching me you creeper...
y/n/n 🦋: just wanted to make sure you are safe baby 🥺
short stack 💘: aww, well you are forgiven. i love you 😘
y/n/n🦋: i love you more, see you later sunshine xx 🥰
Walking back into the hotel, a part of you felt gone but at least she was only next door. You look up from your phone to see your sister standing there with her arms crossed and eyebrows tightly knitted together. Kelley along with a few other of your friends were behind Alex mouthing 'im sorry' as they couldn't keep her in the room. You just hoped she didn't see who you were with.
“What were you doing that made everyone attempt to keep me in the room?”
“Nothing Al, don’t worry”
Attempting to push past her, Al grabs your wrist causing you to turn around.
“We don’t need any distractions y/n/n”
“Trust me Al, she’s far from a distraction”
You say pulling your arm away and walking into the meal room.
After breakfast you all have a few hours before leaving for the game so you decide to have a shower and attempt to relax until the game. You hear a bang on your door and you know you have to go. With your kit bag in hand, you put your headphones on and grab your phone before walking out to the bus.
The bus ride to the stadium was quiet. No one dared to come near you are they knew when you had either earphones or headphones on not to bother you. You arrived at the stadium and noticed the Australian bus just arrived as well. You look behind you slightly and locked eyes with Katrina before giving her a wink. Alex pushes you forward slightly as a silent way of telling you to hurry up and you give her a glare no one wants to receive.
After the national anthems have been sung and the coin tossed, the game was ready to begin. You stand in position, alongside your sister up front, and put your game face on. Sam Kerr kicks the ball off and now it’s game time, until the 22nd minute when your own girlfriend scores a rocket from outside the box. You hung your head in shame and walked back to position. The whole game is a cat and mouse situation with no one really getting close enough to shoot. You spot Lindsey with the ball and you weave past Emily and Alanna into an open gap and call for the ball. You move around the players and look up to see a perfect distance between you and the goal. The next thing you know the fans are cheering, drums being hit and your teammates jumping on your and smacking your head. After the next few minutes of extra time, the whistle is blown and the game ends in a one all draw.
You shake the hands of your friends in the Australian team until you get to one in particular, who you were saving for last. You wrap Katrina up in your arms and stay like that for a few minutes taking in the time you have together, even though you play for the same club team.
“You played so well out there bubs. I’m proud of you. That goal was amazing”
“I’m proud of you too speedy. Can we swap jerseys?”
You nod and start to take off your jersey.
Katrina’s jersey just fits in your tall build, while yours looks like a dress on her. You get called over by Christen and you bid your goodbyes to Katrina. You get back to the locker room and you know you’re not going to see her for a few weeks so you just need to see her one last time.
y/n/n 🦋: meet me in the hallway xx 😉
short stack 💘: 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️
You throw your tee on and slides before walking out of the dressing room to meet your ever so sexy girlfriend leaning up against the wall. Grabbing her hand and checking no one from either team followed, you both move to a more secluded area around the corner. You two wasted no time and smashed your lips on each others. Your hands going just under Katrina's jersey, resting on her hips, while hers are playing with the baby hairs on the back of your head. Just as you go to move you knee between Katrina's legs, you hear someone clear their throat. The two of you pull apart to see your sister standing there, arms crossed and a face not impressed.
"So this is who you were sneaking out this morning"
"Al listen I-"
You started but got cut off immediately.
"I can't believe you didn't tell me. I thought we told each other everything y/n/n"
"Trust me Al I wanted to tell you bu-"
"I can't be here right now. And you"
Alex directs her attention to Katrina.
"If you even think about hurting a single hair on her body, you better watch out"
Alex walks away and you want to break down in tears. Katrina pulls you in a tight hug and you start apologising for your sisters behaviour, since she's never done it to any of your exes before.
"Hey you have nothing to apologise for. You've done nothing wrong. You're okay"
You physically relax in Katrina's arms and you pull your head out of her shoulder and see Christen and Tobin walking towards you.
"Hey Kat, I'm guessing it went well with Alex then?"
Christen asks and you give her a look that Tobin laughs at.
"Well we're leaving in about 15 minutes so if you want a shower, I'd go now"
You nod and the pair walk off and you feel Katrina tug on your hand to face her.
"Everything's going to be okay. Just let her calm down and talk to her back at the hotel. I'm literally just next door okay?"
Katrina leans up to kiss your cheek ever so lightly, making you blush slightly
"I love you so much"
"I love you too but more when you're less smelly now go shower"
You both walk to your respective locker rooms when you look back and blow Katrina a kiss. Meanwhile in the locker room, you walk in and Alex comes over, hugging your side.
"I'm sorry y/n/n, I just don't wanna see you hurt"
"She's not going to hurt me, I promise. You can calm down with the protective older sister vibe too. I honestly think I'm going to marry her one day"
Alex smiles for the first time since the full time whistle was blown and pulls you into her famous bear hugs.
“I’m just happy you’re happy bug”
Mini Swiftie // Jessie Fleming
Tumblr media
a/n: based off this request. Hope you like it.
JFlem✔️
i miss you :(
see you tonight? x
you smiled at your phone, pressing the icon to call your girl. Leaving the room where your team mates were sat, watching a movie while you went down to the hotel lobby. "Hey" you said as she accepted your call, "hello, my girl" the freckled girl whispered, slipping out of her hotel room. "How was your day?"
Canada and the Uswnt would face each other at the weekend in a friendly but staying away from your lover was awful. In London you lived together, slept next to each other every day and now not doing so was something neither of you liked. But at least due to the friendly, your teams were in the same town.
One evening, the two of you found a little bench that was located halfway to each of your hotels. It became your spot. "Can i see you tonight?" she repeated her text question "yeah, same time, same place?"
"Yeah"
As you were about to say someting when you saw a glimpse of a small brunette. Kelley. "Gotta go!" Immediately, you ended the call.
You
sorry, Kelley is on her way
see you later x
"Mini Swiftie! We‘re watching your favorite movie and you‘re not there" the veteran ruffled through your hair. Your hands went back in your hair to straighten it. "Who did you talk to lover?" the lover was in the same sing-song voice as your sister performed it, "kelley, you need to stop with these references", you stood up as she dramatically clutched her heart, "don’t blame, love made me crazy" you rolled your eyes, walking to the elevators.
Ever since you made your debut for the senior team, the team loved to tease you with Taylor Swift song lyrics. You get it, you‘re a Swift but it‘s not your fault that she was your older sister, you loved her and she was your biggest supporter (Jess would fight her because according to her, she‘s your number one fan) but sometimes it was heavingly annoying.
"Come on, Mini Swiftie, you didn‘t answer my question!" she ran after you, jumping in the elevator just in time. "My mom" you replied nonchalantly, hoping she wouldn‘t realize that you‘re lying.
Nobody knew about you and the canadian girl and it should stay that way. Compared to your sister, you didn't like the stage. Yes, you played football on a world stage, you became a world champion in 2019, but the comparison to a sold-out stadium and a sold-out Taylor concert was something different. You only got to know peace through the Canadian woman who showed you how it was possible to live in peace despite the fact that you were in the public eye. You loved her for that, you loved her for so many reasons.
-
Midnight couldn‘t come fast enough. Mal was in a deep slumber already as you were wide awake. Mal and you roomed together all the time, you were one of the og-youngsters, gave your debut together and were great friends so it became a common thing. The forward was always in a deep sleep, you could scream next to her and she wouldn't notice, it made things a lot easier to sneak out of the room and sneak in later in the night without getting caught.
20 minutes before midnight, you got up, dressed yourself in a hoodie and some shorts. Thankfully, the weather wasn‘t cold or rainy. You sneaked out of the room and hotel, walking down the streets to your spot.
"Hi, baby" you greeted your girl as you took a seat beside her, your lips pressing against her cheek. "Gimme a real kiss" the canadian whined, chuckling at her antics, "so needy" nonetheless you gave her the sweet kiss she deserved.
-
The following days, you met up with Jess at the same time and same place. During the day you hadn’t had much free time so midnight was perfect to update on how your day was and the missing kisses, something important for the both of you.
"Do you think Mini Swiftie is acting weird?" Sonnett asked her friends, looking at you as you smiled at your phone (texting with Jessie) "how come?" Alex asked. Trying to explain what Sonnett meant, Christen cut her attempt short, "give her a rest, she‘s young" you didn‘t hear Christen protect you but if you had, you would‘ve been very thankful. The defender took the matters in her own hands as she looked at Kelley and Alex. They shared a look before they nodded.
-
"Today was awful" you grumbled as you flopped down next to your girlfriend, ready to rest your head on her chest. "What happened, love?" lovingly, she scartched through your hair, a method to calm you down. "Sonny and Kelley didn‘t leave my side all day long and when I said something they replied with lyrics"
"Oh my girl, you have to tell them If you don‘t like it" her voice was quiet, understanding. "Jess, you know how they are" the midfielder sighed, she knew exactly how they were, "can you just hold me?"
You loved your team mates to death but sometimes they‘re just too much. You had no problem with their teasing, you‘re proud to call yourself a Swift and you didn‘t care If they called you Mini Swiftie but if they don’t give real answer after every spoken sentence of you, only a lyric, it made you angry. That way you couldn't have a real conversation with them and you didn‘t want to either. How do they even come up with (you hate to admit that) a perfect song line in such a short time slot?
"Anything, baby" your girlfriend pulled you closer as she continued to massage your scalp.
-
"Hey, was Y/n with you guys last night?" Mal asked the group. "No, why?" came the reply from the Room Morgan-O‘Hara, Press-Heath, Lavelle-Mewis and Sonnett-Horan. "Weird" your room mate mumbled. Last night, she drank a cup of coffee before going to bed which was why she had to get up 3 times during the night to go to the bathroom.
The first time was shortly after midnight - your bed empty. She thought you were in the bathroom so she waited, no light was on, you weren‘t there.
The second time was around 2am tending towards 3am - your bed still empty.
The last time she went to the bathroom was around 5am, you were soundfully asleep in your bed.
The big question: where had you been?
"Interesting. She's hiding something from us." Kelley had a mischief smile on her face while clapping her hands together. "Detectives, let‘s go!"
Hard to believe but everyone agreed to Kelley's plan.
-
"Good night" Mal whispered in to the dark room, ready to fake her sleep. Her back was facing you while you laid on your bed, staring at the ceiling. Mal‘s phone was hidden under her pillow as your team mates waited for a signal. Sonny had even created a groupchat 'Mission: Swift' with Tobin, Chris, Alex, Kelley, Mal, Rose, Sam and Lindsey.
20 minutes before midnight you checked If Mallory was asleep, "Mal, are you up?" she didn‘t answer you - in your eyes she was in her deep slumber. You got out of your pyjama and dressed into the same outfit as usual. The forward could only assume what you did, her eyes closed.
When she heard the door open and shut, she grabbed her phone and texted.
Mal
suspect left the room.
Team Kellex and Preath were down in the lobby, Chris and Tobin sitting at the bar while Kelley and Alex sat in the armchairs which were not in your sight. The other group members were still in their rooms, waiting for the next sign.
Kelley
down.
As soon as they saw Kelley‘s text, everyone sprinted out of their rooms, down the stairs to join the rest of the group. "She went this way" Alex whispered as they arrived, Chris and Tobin already by their sides.
They kept enough distance from you as they followed you yet always had an eye on you. Every once in a while you turned around but didn't see anyone so you just kept walking like nothing happened, maybe your mind was messing with you.
The team felt like fbi agents, working on an undercover case or like they‘re in a movie, either way it was exciting.
"My love, hello" you sat down next to her, giving her a kiss.
"Did she- did she just-" Sonnett started, completely shocked.
"..kiss someone?" Rose ended the question, eyes wide.
Everyone‘s mouth was agape, mini swiftie with a girlfriend? What? "I didn‘t expect that" the tall blonde said, looking at her friends.
"Yeah, yeah, but who is she?" Lindsey chipped in, her curiosity on high-levels.
Tobin was the first to approach you and the mysterious girl by your side, Chris, Kelley and Alex close behind, Mal, Rose, Sam, Sonny and Lindsey following. Tobin scoffed, clearing her throat. It made you turn around, your eyes wide as you stood up, pulling Jessie behind you. The first who opened her mouth was Kelley though, who would‘ve thought. "What‘s this?" Kelley asked, her tone strict, kind of like a mom. The others gathered around you, glaring a the girl behind you "Baby Canada!" Tobin said, walking around the bench. "H- Hi" the canadian gave a little wave, shaking slightly as all the women stared at her. "So?" the small but scary brunette asked, she wanted an answer, everybody wanted. You looked at your girlfriend, you didn't want to tell them anything she wasn‘t comfortable with. "We saw you kiss so don‘t lie to us" Alex added. As Jess nodded with a reassuring smile, you turned back to your team mates "Jessie is my girlfriend. We‘re a couple" you squeezed her hand for your own sake. "Well, well, well, baby Canada" Kelley joined Tobin, intimidating the freckled girl "do we have to give you the shovel talk?" It was Alex who was talking, taking some steps to stand next to Kelley "Stop it guys" you didn‘t like how that turned out at all, you had a feeling that your girlfriend was scared, not that she wouldn‘t face them but it was dark and late and 9 women were just to much. "Go back to the hotel, we‘ll talk in the morning" you said about to walk away with Jess. "What‘re you gonna do?" Rose asked.
"I will walk her to her hotel"
"She‘s old enough to walk alone!" you glared at Kelley. "I don‘t care, I’ll walk her back to the hotel and then go back to ours."
"Well then we‘re all gonna bring her, we won‘t let you walk on your own" Christen added, not liking the feeling to let you walk home alone. She liked that you felt the same way with Jess walking alone.
"Fine"
Jessie and you walked ahead of them as they trailed behind you, gushing over the new information they had about their Mini Swiftie. "I‘m so sorry" you murmured while you pulled her into you, your arm around her shoulders as hers went around your mid section. "It‘s fine, they love you"
"They‘re annoying" you grumbled.
The rest of the walk was spent in silence, you ignored your friends, your only focus: the midfielder in your arms. As you arrived at the hotel, Kelley instantly opened her mouth again "Now say bye, we all want to sleep" rolling your eyes, you looked at your girl, smiling fondly. You were so in love with her. "Good night, my love. Sweet dreams" you pushed your lips against her forehead, not giving her a real kiss as your team mates stared at you. "Good night, baby" she gave your cheek a peck, understanding why you didn‘t give her the proper good night kiss like usual.
You watched her as she entered the hotel, waiting till she wasn‘t in sight anymore before you turned around.
"Tell us everything, Mini Swiftie"
All’s Well That Ends Well
Emily Sonnett x Reader
Word Count: 6k
[WOSO Masterlist]
The first time you meet Emily Sonnett, you think she’s the hottest person you’ve ever seen. Granted you don’t know her name or who she really is during that first night, you can’t deny how attractive you find her.
Celebrating the successful launch of your latest business project, you’re out with a few coworkers and friends when you hear the rambunctious laughter break out somewhere behind you. Your head snaps to the side, trying to find the source, quickly zooming in on a table tucked into the corner, a group of women drunkenly playing a game of darts.
The woman you’re drawn to instantly is dressed in a muscle tee, armed with two beer bottles, and giving zero fucks about messing with her friends’ dart shots. She jumps from person to person, nudging them right before they shoot, screaming random phrases, really anything to be a thorn in everyone’s sides. You find yourself lost in her looks for a moment, nearly choking on your breath when she pulls her shirt up to wipe away some sweat on her face. Holy shit, she’s got some abs.
You force yourself to quickly look away before your brain takes you to an extremely inappropriate place. You’re not sure if you want to order yourself another drink or go splash water on your face.
You do your best to feign interest in your suddenly dull conversations with your coworkers. Every couple seconds you hear a loud noise from the corner and you have to fight the urge to look over there.
You think you’re doing a pretty good job at being covert, only stealing glances every now and then, but when the object of your admiration comes sauntering up to you, a confident smirk on her face, you know you’ve been caught.
“Can I buy you a drink?”
You hide your flusteredness with faked bravado. “Does that line actually work for you?”
The blonde’s smirk only deepens. “It does when the woman I’m trying to charm has been stealing multiple looks at me from across the room all night.”
You cough, choking on the sip of beer you’ve unfortunately decided to take at that moment. You know you’ve been caught, but you didn’t think she’d outright call you out for your staring.
“Sonnett.”
You tilt your head in confusion. “Like the poem? Uh, what about it?”
The blonde lets out a bark of laughter, shaking her head. “No, my name. Sonnett, Emily Sonnett. All my friends call me Sonny or Sonnett or some sort of variation of that.”
“Oh are we friends now? I’ve known you for, what, twenty seconds?”
Emily gives you a grin. “Feisty, I like it.”
You roll your eyes at her but there’s a smile playing on your lips.
“This is usually the part where you tell me your name…” she trails off, giving you a look when you don’t offer the piece of information yourself.
It’s your turn to smirk at her, seeing the way she blushes when she asks for your name. “Who’s the eager one now?”
But she doesn’t back down from a challenge. You should’ve known someone like her loves to play dirty.
“What will it take? Do you want me to flex for you?” Emily’s words are accompanied by a demonstration.
You can’t help the way your eyes instantly drop down to her arms. If you thought her muscles looked attractive and drool worthy from the other side of the room, that’s nothing in comparison to seeing them up close and personal.
Noticing the dazed look on your face, Emily smirks. “Or if you’d prefer something else…”
Your hand shoots forward to stop Emily before she can lift her shirt up to show you her abs. The way her eyes sparkle tells you she definitely didn’t miss you staring at them earlier either.
Faced with two choices, tell her your name or suffer a slow strip tease, you know there’s only one way this will all end.
Emily Sonnett’s going to be the death of you.
---
It’s easy being Emily’s friend.
After the first night you run into her and her friends, you’re not embarrassed to say you look her up the second you get home.
You’re surprised when you find out that all of them are professional soccer players (not that it’s that surprising, given their pristine physiques). You’re even more surprised when you spot the message in your DM’s by the Portland defender the morning after.
[Sorry, I hope this isn’t weird. But I totally forgot to get your number last night.]
It’s followed by three equally as adorable texts.
[My friends and I are getting a late brunch later today if you want to come?]
[Oh shit, sorry, I hope you don’t think it’s weird I looked you up.]
[I also probably shouldn’t double text. Or quadruple text now? Sorry. Just ignore me. I won’t be offended.]
You end up joining brunch. It’s not as awkward as you think it might be.
The two of you trade multiple texts back and forth the next couple weeks. Emily sends you countless memes, you send her slightly more coherent comments about your day.
A month passes and you’re not sure how you ever lived a life without knowing the soccer players. You go on weekly coffee dates with Emily, hikes with Lindsey, art museum explorations with Tobin. Their whole crew is lovable and you often find yourself looking forward to the next time you get to see them.
Today you’ve all made plans to go try out this new cafe down the street from Providence Park. This has been their latest venture in trying to convince you to go to one of their games. They’ve all taken to bribing you with all sorts of treats and although you have no qualms with going to a game, you just want to see how far you can drag it out before they catch onto your amusement.
You’re late to show up, having to fix a late minute bug in your project before you left. Most of the girls are already sitting down with their drinks by the time you arrive. Although Ellie slides you your drink with a smile, you can’t help but notice the lack of a certain jokester hanging around.
“Where’s Em?”
Lindsey looks confused for a second, not sure who you’re referring to. The second it clicks, she’s gesturing over her shoulder to where the blonde is still at the counter. “Oh, Sonny’s somewhere over there.”
“Probably in the process of charming the barista’s pants off,” Caitlin smirks into her mug.
Your face instantly falls. You could’ve sworn you and Emily were building something, the flirting between you guys growing more genuine and softer with every day. Trying to act unbothered, you nonchalantly ask, “Oh… she does that a lot?”
Ellie throws her arm around you. “Sonny’s a wild one, that girl. Give her thirty minutes and she’ll have made the whole room fall in love with her.”
You miss the way Lindsey glares at Ellie, whispering harshly into the younger player’s ear after she pulls her off you. You deflate even more at the Australian’s words, staring dejectedly into your coffee.
Your solemn mood only lasts for a couple seconds. Clenching your jaw, you huff out an annoyed breath.
You know what? Screw Emily. If she didn’t see you the way you saw her, that’s her loss. That night in the bar brought you her, but it also brought you these other, cooler people you’ve had the pleasure to get close to.
Lindsey eyes you carefully, not missing the set in your shoulders.
The midfielder is in the middle of telling you about the team’s recent game in New Jersey when Emily makes her first appearance.
“You’re here!” The blonde’s face brightens as she plops into the empty seat beside you. You simply give her a hum before turning your attention back to Lindsey.
Emily shoots her friend a look from behind your back but Lindsey shrugs, also confused by your sudden disinterest in the defender.
You spend the rest of the morning ignoring the defender. You get more than a couple weird looks from everyone, all of them having already spotted the way you’re often found glued to the blonde’s side during days out together. Emily tries getting your attention a couple times, but the petty bitch within you only gives her one word responses.
When the lot of you head out the door, ready to go your separate ways, Emily grabs ahold of your hand. You spin around, feigning a look of annoyance. In reality, your heart’s racing at the thought that Emily cared enough to chase you down.
“Are we okay?”
“Why wouldn’t we be?” You meet her gray green eyes with a steely gaze.
Emily only looks more upset at your detached tone. You have to stop yourself from crumbling right in the spot.
“You’ve just been… are you mad at me? Did I do something?”
A beat passes. You really want to say something else that will hurt her. To make her feel as insecure as she’s made you feel this morning.
But Emily looks like she’s two seconds away from bursting into tears. Like even one wrong word will change the uneasy look on her face into one of despair.
“No, I’m just…” you sigh, knowing you’re going to hate yourself for folding so easily. “I’m sorry, it’s been a long past couple days.”
Emily perks up a bit, looking a bit relieved but also concerned. “Oh, okay. Is there anything I can do?”
You let the soccer player wrap an arm around your waist, rest her head against your shoulder. You want to curse at the way your body instantly melts against her, letting the hands running up and down your back sooth you.
“No, it’s fine, I-- just keep being you.”
---
A couple years pass. You’re there when the people who’ve become your best friends play in one of the biggest tournaments in their lives. When the people who’ve become your best friends go to the World Cup. Win the World Cup.
A couple years pass and your feelings never go away. You still get a flutter in your chest every time Emily looks your way. You still want to kiss her every time Emily gives you a soft smile.
And then Emily tearfully announces her departure to Orlando. You think that’s as much as you can take until you convince yourself that three hours won’t be too bad. She’ll just be on the other side of the country but it won’t be that bad.
But then a couple months later Emily tells you about Sweden and you nearly break down in tears. You’re well aware that’s not a normal reaction from a friend, but you’ve already been missing Emily so much, having never gotten used to the lack of her presence in Portland. Lindsey has grown to have a bigger part in your life, you rarely spending a day without seeing each other, but still, she’s no Emily Sonnett.
The two of you make do with what you have.
Emily wakes up early just so she can catch you before you leave for work. You set an alarm in the middle of your day just to call Emily before she goes to bed. On days she has games, you make sure to watch them, no matter what time they’re at.
Having Emily so far away in Sweden hurts, but it gets slightly better with each passing day. At least that’s what you tell yourself. You tell yourself it’s getting slightly better when you can’t bike down the streets without thinking about the way Emily would poke fun at your lack of biking skills. You tell yourself it’s getting better when you can’t try your hand at latte art without thinking about the way Emily would do a much better job at it than you.
You tell yourself it’s getting slightly better until one day it actually does.
It all starts with Emily telling you about her return to the NWSL. You're instantly clutching your stomach, laughing so hard you can barely stay upright.
“Why are you laughing?” Emily looks a little peeved, but not too annoyed through the screen of your phone.
“I’m not laughing at you, promise. I just… I’m moving to DC too, Em.”
Emily looks stunned for a second. “Wait, you’re not pulling my leg, are you? Because if you are, that’s mean.”
“I’m not joking. I got a promotion but the position is in DC.”
It’s quiet for a second. Emily’s mouth has fallen open, a look of wonder and awe written all over her face.
“We’re going to be in the same city again?” Her voice comes out soft, disbelieving.
Emily’s face breaks out into a smile when you nod.
“Holy shit we’re going to be in the same city again!” Emily’s wiggling so hard that you’re half afraid she’s going to fall out of her seat. “Wait until I tell Linds, she’s going to be so jealous.”
Your life in DC is not too different from the way it was in Portland.
The only difference is now instead of watching Emily through the screen of your phone or laptop, you get the joy of seeing her in person.
You and Emily slip back into life together smoothly. You slot right back together where you left off. Emily brings you to most of her events, you take her to yours. It’s rare to find one of you without the other. The other day you’re pretty sure you heard Kelley call you “Emily’s support person.”
Today the two of you have plans for a lazy cheat day at a pizza joint Emily found by accident weeks ago. You’re just pulling into the parking lot when you get the text message.
[DUDE I HAVE NO CLOTHES HERE]
You can almost hear the panic in Emily’s voice through the phone. A piece of you wants to send back an ‘I told you so,’ the blonde swearing up and down that she had an extra set in her locker when she left this morning. You told her she should grab something extra in case she didn’t, but the blonde waved your concern away.
You’re on your way back on the familiar path to her apartment before Emily has a chance to say otherwise. One of the joys of having the blonde live so close to their practice field is that you’d be in and out before Emily could even trudge out to the parking lot.
You couldn’t have been in the apartment for more than a couple minutes when you hear the door unlock behind you. You’re unable to stop your sigh. Leave it up to Emily to not listen to you. Such a classic Emily move.
“Okay, I know you’re obsessed with your bike and being eco-friendly, but I told you I’d get the clothes for you! You didn’t have to bike after me the second I left.”
When you spin around, however, you come face to face with someone who is definitely not Emily.
Emma Sonnett raises an eyebrow at you.
“Oh, you’re not Emily,” you say rather dumbly.
The blonde crosses her arms. “No, I’m her sister, which explains why I’m here. Why are you here?”
You rack your brain, trying to remember if Emily told you anything about her sister visiting this week. If she had mentioned anything you wouldn’t have used your key so willy-nilly. “Uh, Em forgot her change of clothes for dinner tonight so I’m just… dropping by to get it…”
You trail off when Emma follows you out the door, all the way to where your car’s parked outside. She leans against the driver’s side door, blocking your path nonchalantly.
“Oh cool, where are we going for dinner?”
“Um.” You’re not sure how to leave without accidentally insulting Emma. Plus, she looks so much like Emily and you can never say no to anything Emily wanted you to do so--
Emma happily gets into your car when you unlock it.
You hope Emily’s fine with having an extra person at dinner tonight. If she’s not… well there’s nothing you can do about it now.
When you pull up, Emily’s right where you left her. She looks up with a smile on her face, but it freezes when she catches sight of her sister sitting in the passenger seat of your car.
“Emma, what are you doing here?”
Her twin gives her a devious grin. You’ve seen that look in Emily’s eyes enough times to know Emma’s about to do something that neither you nor Emily’s going to like.
“Emmy, you didn’t tell me your girlfriend’s such a charmer! How in the world did you convince someone this out of your league to settle for you?”
Emily flushes red, from embarrassment or anger, you’re not sure, but you don’t miss a beat. “I think you’re mistaken. Em here is the one who’s out of my league.”
Emma looks pleased with your answer. Emily, on the other hand, looks a mix of flattered and enamored with you. You try not to think about what it means.
Dinner is a blast. Despite her earlier ribbings, Emma is actually quite fun to hang around. The two of you trade Sonnett stories, you telling her about living in Portland and now DC with Emily, Emma telling you about life back in Georgia. Emily spends the entire time sinking in her seat, hiding her reddening face in her hands.
After a particularly funny story about a failed prank Emily tried to pull on Lindsey, Emma keels over in laughter, slapping you in the arm. “The way we haven’t met each other until now!” Emma clicks her tongue in disappointment before turning to glare at Emily. “Emmy, I know you’re a bit possessive but (Y/N)’s a hoot! You should’ve introduced us earlier!”
You send a wink Emily’s way, feeling a bit proud to have won her sister over. You think you’re imagining things when Emily’s eyes fall to your lips, teeth biting her own.
When the night comes to an end, neither of you realize you haven’t told Emma you’re not actually together.
---
When Kelley asks you out for coffee, you don’t think too much of it. All of Emily’s friends have become yours, the two of you only growing closer in the time you’ve been back in the same city. It’s normal for Kelley to ask you to hang out, the two of you having bonded over finding out you’re both Stanford alums. What isn’t normal is the way Kelley jumps at the opportunity to buy your cup of coffee. You sit at the table, waiting for the brunette to return with skeptical eyes.
Kelley drops into her seat with a huff, sliding your mug across the table to you.
“Okay, I’ve got a favor to ask.
You eye the coffee on the table, knowing very well it’s more a bribe than anything. But free coffee is free coffee. You shrug. “Cool, shoot.”
“I need you to hold off on revealing anything until at least the end of the season.”
You blink. Kelley keeps giving you an expectant look as if you have the ability to read her mind. Sadly you haven’t figured out how to activate that power yet. “Reveal what?”
Kelley’s face widens into a grin. “That’s the spirit!”
It’s during times like these that you understand why Kelley and Emily get along so well. You sigh. “Kel, I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
The defender rolls her eyes. “Nice try. You and Son? You’re not as subtle as you think you are.”
“What exactly do you think we’re hiding from the rest of you?”
“That you’re together, obviously.”
It’s the way Kelley says it so nonchalantly, as if it’s the world’s worst kept secret that has you instantly choking on your coffee. “I’m sorry, what?”
Kelley gives you a wink. “Relax, your secret’s safe with me. The whole team’s got bets going, but I’m obviously not going to say anything that costs me the--”
“Kelley, Emily and I aren’t dating,” you interrupt.
The defender sits up, a confused frown falling upon her face. She opens her mouth but you’re quick to interrupt her again before she can say anything.
“I’m being serious. We’re not dating.”
Kelley looks dumbfounded. “Wait, really? But the two of you are… there’s no way the two of you aren’t dating. Emily’s so enamored with you and you with her--”
“I’ve been flirting with Emily since the day I met her, Kel. Trust me, if she was interested I would know.”
Kelley’s frown returns. “I dunno, I’m pretty sure she likes you. Like 98% sure.”
You roll your eyes at her. “Thanks for trying to make me feel better but she definitely doesn’t see me that way.”
When you steer the conversation to Kelley’s “Beat Everybody” venture a couple seconds later, the defender has no choice but to follow the change in topic. She still doesn’t look convinced about where your relationship with Emily stands, but you don’t pay her skepticism any mind. None of it matters because you know the truth.
Emily Sonnett has never and will never love you the way you love her.
And there’s nothing you can do about that.
----
You don’t realize you and Emily are dating until Lindsey invites the two of you to dinner at her place.
It’s been a while since you last saw the midfielder, so you’re quick to accept the invitation. You and Emily both show up with a bottle of wine in hand.
“You said you were going to get a cheese platter!”
Emily nearly blows a gasket when you remind her she was the one who told you to get wine. She pouts when you pull up your texts to prove it.
Lindsey finds the whole thing amusing, ushering the two of you in before you could convince Emily to go to the nearest store.
The three of you are busy catching up when the topic comes up. It all starts with your overexcited urge to tell Lindsey about the new addition to your family. When Lindsey finishes telling you about Ferguson’s latest adventure with her parents, you take the segway with ease.
“Did Em tell you? We got a puppy.”
Lindsey frowns. “What do you mean ‘we’?”
Emily gives Lindsey a weird look. “‘We’ as in the two of us?”
If anything, Emily’s explanation only makes Lindsey look more confused. “I’m sorry, when did the two of you become a ‘we’? How do you even get a dog together? Like how does that work? Do you trade off weekends or something?”
“Well it all started last week when Em woke up and had the crazy idea to get a dog. Two hours later we had a puppy chilling on our couch, watching the Orlando, Houston game with us. Plus, you know I’ve always wanted a dog and Em has too, and since she already spends most of her time at my place it seemed like the logical next step--” you come to an abrupt stop when Lindsey jerks forward, eyes growing in size with every word until she couldn’t hold herself back anymore.
“Wait! Sorry, hold up. When did this happen?
Emily rolls her eyes, finally exasperated at her best friend. “Were you not listening? We got her last week.”
“No! Not that! This!” Lindsey gestures between the two of you. “When did you guys start dating?”
Blinking, you and Emily look at each other. Your eyes drop to your intertwined hands, the two of them unconsciously finding their way to each other during the course of dinner.
You think about the past couple months. How Emily has spent every second of her freetime with you. How you’ve spent the little time you’ve been apart craving for your next dose of the blonde.
You think about the way you stay up late when Emily’s flying in from an away game just to spend as much time as you can with her, the way you won’t let her return home to an empty apartment, to an even colder bed. You think about the way you love Emily the most right when she wakes up, when she clings to you and tries to convince you to stay in bed longer with her, the way she gets grumpy when you refuse and then cuddly when you promise to let her snuggle if she can make you a stack of waffles before her spot in bed gets cold. You think about the way Emily makes you stupidly happy, the way she can turn your day around by simply just being herself.
Now that you think about it, the two of you have been doing all of the dating things without explicitly saying you’re dating.
“Huh. I guess we are dating, aren’t we?”
It’s Emily’s turn to blush, face pinkening at your declaration. Your hand tightens around hers and Emily gives your hand a squeeze in response.
Miffed by Emily’s silence, Lindsey turns to her best friend. “Son, please don’t tell me-- I cannot believe-- how do you accidentally start dating someone?!”
Emily shrugs, nervously scratching the back of her neck. “I mean it all started when Emma came to visit? She just assumed we were dating, and then our waiter thought the same thing… and then a lot of other people did too? And then we kinda just-- stuck with it, I guess? Honestly, I haven’t really put too much thought into this until… until now, actually.”
Emily gives you a questioning look and you nod, confirming her perspective of your relationship. Lindsey looks at the two of you like you both just sprouted wings and started breathing fire.
“Are you seriously telling me you guys haven’t talked about the fact that you’re dating? Much less how you seemingly unknowingly got there?? How does that even happen?”
You huff, not understanding why Lindsey’s making such a big deal out of all of this. “Well I like Em and it’s pretty clear she likes me too so I don’t see a problem.”
Lindsey blinks.
The corner of her mouth twitches.
Emily stiffens next to you. You’re not doing much better, actively beginning to curl into Emily’s side, as if there’s any hope the defender can protect you from Lindsey’s wrath. Lindsey is a great friend, but you can acknowledge how terrifying you find her on the regular. A pissed off Lindsey is a whole nother beast to deal with.
Lifting her glass to her lips, Lindsey drains her wine in one sip. She reaches for the bottle again, pouring herself another healthy glass. Then, her jaw flexes. “The problem is, the two of you need to have a conversation. Preferably when I’m not around, so,” she fixes you with a stare. “Tell me about the new puppy you’ve adopted.”
You’re a bit taken aback by the sudden change in topic, and if the furrow between Emily’s brows is any indication she is too. But by now you’re a little too scared to not go with the flow of conversation. “So her name is Bagel Bongo.”
If Lindsey grips her glass any harder, you think she might snap it clean in half. Lindsey breathes in, sharp and exasperated. “What even-- what kind of name is that?!”
You frown, instantly defensive. “What kind of name is Sir Ferguson?”
Lindsey’s mouth drops open. “Fergy’s named after the legendary football player--”
You wave your hand, cutting her off. “Eh, don’t care. Bagel Bongo is a much cooler name. She’s also a much cooler dog.”
Lindsey’s gasp of offense is loud.
Emily snorts next to you, drawing Lindsey’s eyes to her. When she finally realizes Lindsey is staring, however, Emily tries to cover up her amusement. She doesn’t do too well of a job.
Lindsey sighs, the beginnings of a smile creeping on the corner of her lips. “Okay, the two of you are actually perfect for each other. I see why you idiots attract each other.”
Lindsey looks convinced and for the first time you finally see what everyone else has seen all this time.
Emily Sonnett has always and will always love you the way you love her.
You owe Kelley an apology and a pack of beer.
---
Three years later the two of you have finally gotten your own place, a real place where the both of you mutually agree to live in as partners.
Just a couple weeks prior Emily had signed with the newly added Atlanta expansion team. You’re quick to follow her back to her home state, not minding the move at all.
The season comes and goes, all of your friends are quick to converge on your new place. It’s only at the insistence of Kelley that the two of you finally host a party here, letting your friends see your house for the first time.
You’re not sure you’ve ever had this much fun. After a couple drinks, Rose is ready to break into karaoke right in your living room. Lindsey and Mal throw heckles at her, while Sam (and you) cheers away.
Emily spends most of the night glued to your side, only ever leaving it once when she gets into what looks like a heated conversation with Lindsey on the other side of the room. You’re two seconds away from making your way over there yourself, but it’s only Kelley pulling you into a conversation about your vacation plans that derails you from doing so. When you next look up, Emily’s returning with two drinks in hand, pressing a quick kiss against your cheek.
When the clock hits three am, most of your friends are conked out in various locations of your house. All it takes is a singular raised eyebrow and Emily is following you out to the balcony with a half finished bottle of wine and two wine glasses.
When the two of you get out there, Emily’s quick to pull you towards her. Emily leans in, pressing a sweet kiss against your lips.
You can’t help but smile into the kiss. “What was that for?”
Emily pulls away with a shrug. “Just because.”
“Just because, huh?” you chuckle, snuggling deeper against your girlfriend.
Emily mirrors your grin. “It’s been a long day. I just wanted to kiss you because I love you.”
Humming, you settle against Emily’s front, basking in the calm presence of your lover. Emily presses a kiss against the side of your head. You stand in silence, content with just watching stars glitter overhead.
It’s a while later when Emily speaks up again. By then, the two of you have finished your glasses of wine, a buzzing haze settling over the two of you.
“What are your thoughts on keeping the Christmas lights up until January?”
You’re sure Emily can feel how hard you roll your eyes at her question. “We both know there’s no reason anyone should be keeping their Christmas lights up that late. Once it’s the 26th, all decorations should be gone.”
When Emily falls silent, arms tightening against your waist, you know she’s pouting at you. Without turning around you can imagine the way she’s giving you her best puppy dog eyes, willing you to do her biddings without saying a word.
You’ve always had to fight your girlfriend to stop her from decking your apartment out in Christmas decorations the second Halloween ended. Emily liked to go all out, the whole nine yards, leaving no inch of your living space untouched. You, on the other hand, preferred not setting up anything at all, begrudgingly putting up a tree and a couple lights only once December rolled around at the insistence of your girlfriend. But things changed the second you moved in together. You had to learn how to compromise. “Compromise” being a loose term.
This year Emily claimed free range in decorating once the spooky season ended. You were too tired and content from all the orgasms she gave you to voice your dissent. By the time you realized what she had done, there were nutcrackers in every cranny, mistletoes in every doorway, and lights and garlands on every wall. Since it was too late to do anything about it, you resolved to stand your ground towards when it all had to go.
You try to stay strong, you really do. But in reality you last less than three seconds.
“You’re lucky I love you,” you grumble.
You expect a joke, Emily to poke fun at how quickly you crumble. Instead, when you hear a slight sniffle and then a wet “I really love you,” you spin around. You’re met with the sight of a teary eyed Emily, trying her best to fight back her tears.
“Em? Baby, what’s wrong?”
Emily’s eyes flutter shut when you take her face into your hands. If anything, she leans into your touch. “I just… I really love you.”
Your heart skips a beat. Even after all of these years, you don’t think you’ll ever get used to hearing that from her. “And I really love you too. Are you okay? Did I say something--”
“Will you marry me?”
Your mouth drops open, stunned to silence. You and Emily have definitely discussed the topic of marriage, so this proposal is no surprise to you. But you definitely did not expect Emily to propose when she was bawling her eyes out just moments prior.
Emily pushes on, unbothered by your silence. “I… I had a whole speech planned. It was supposed to be great and grand and make you cry but I--” Emily sighs, looking down at the ground. Scuffing her feet against the ground, she mumbles out, “I lost the ring. Lindsey was supposed to hold onto it for me and she said she gave it to Rose and Rose said she gave it to Sam and… it’s gone. I can’t find it but I don’t want to wait anymore.”
She turns her gaze towards the sky, hoping the cold air will help dry her tears. It doesn’t work. You frown when you see more tears fall down her face.
“Like I’d get it if you say no, you can’t really do the whole proposing thing without a ring--”
“Emily,” you cut her off, making sure Emily raises her eyes to meet yours before continuing. “Don’t get me wrong, I love jewelry as much as the next girl, but I don’t care about any of it. I’d marry you with paper rings if I had to, Em.”
Emily rubs at her eyes, sniffling again. You gently grab ahold of her wrists, pulling her hands away from her face. You press a kiss against each hand before letting go to brush away Emily’s tears yourself.
“I love you so fucking much, Emily Sonnett. You’re my favorite person in the world and I don’t care whether or not you have a ring. I love you and want you, not some shiny piece of metal.”
Emily’s breath hitches and you can tell she’s close to crying again, so you quickly take a step back, intertwining your hands again.
“Ask me again?” you prompt, giving her a soft smile.
Emily takes a deep breath, relaxing against your hold. You can tell when her confidence comes back, the blonde squaring her shoulders and standing up taller. “Will you marry me?”
“A thousand times yes.”
And when Emily kisses you again, lips a little salty from the tears but heart bursting at the seams, you know you’d wait your whole life just to get a chance at forever with her.
i wish you would write a fic where:
so ronnett fwb type thing in which rose is super inexperienced so she (begrudgingly, because rose hates asking for anything) asks sonnett to help her ✨learn✨. or maybe she doesn’t ask, she like tricks sonnett into wanting to show her the ropes because she’s rose and she knows how to get what she wants without having to embarrass herself 😂 …and then they fall in love. the end.
“D’you ever think about, like…” Emily trails off, clearing her throat.
Rose narrows her eyes. It’s never a good sign when Emily hesitates to speak. It usually means she’s either about to make a horrible joke or say something she doesn’t want to hear.
“Spit it out,” Rose says, pulling the comforter up to her chest. Emily isn’t nearly as modest, still sprawled out naked in Rose’s bed like it’s nothing.
“Just, what we’re doing, we’re basically dating,” Emily says. “We’re not real friends with benefits.”
“Yes we are,” Rose says, feeling the panic edge into her own voice, “we literally are, by definition. Friends, with benefits.”
Je'Taime
This is based off of a movie I saw. Actually basically my favourite song from said movie. Also I thought Emily Sonnett seemed the easiest to write for to start?? If I got any facts wrong at all, please feel free to correct me I'm just getting into soccer so everyone and everything is rather new to me. Can I also just say like a big huge yall r fucking amazing to the people who were like u should try writing for the uswnt who knows yoh might like . Like I wouldn't have had the guts to write let alone post this without yall.
"So its final right?" she asks looking over at you from where she was sitting cuddled up next to you watching a rom-com.
"Yup" you rigorously shake her hand up and down smiling at the slight chuckle you get.
"Never say I love you" she makes sure, still somehow shaking your hand back just as hard.
"Never ever in the history of ever." You relax back onto the couch despite the pang in you heart at never having a chance of properly loving your best friend. "Did you know that's 'ne dis jamais je'taime' in french"
"okay smartypants" Both of you look back at the screen right as the two main characters kiss in the rain just as the stereotype shows. The sadness weighs down your heart and even though a collective "Ew!" leaves both of your lips and you hurry to skip ahead in the movie you still wish that maybe just maybe that could've been you. Maybe someday you think to yourself.
That was four years ago, and despite both of your best efforts, you hadn't met up since. Through the frequent facetimes and random texts you found yourself missing her. Your attraction for her hadn't died in the slightest, in fact it increased and even managed to fuel you into texting Kelley to get her to help surprise Emily. The next time you found yourself off work you booked a flight and landed in Washington D.C. Which is how you're watching her now. Over the fence of a random park in which Kelley had dragged her out to make sure your surprise was successful the cloudy sky above you does nothing to dwell on your mood.
You can only smile at her attempts to kick the ball up onto her finger while still holding her jacket and laughing at the face Kelley is making at her attempts. As soon as Kelley makes eye contact with you your sure to make all signs of your lovestruck smile fall off your face into a grin.
Gathering all of your courage you make your way around the fence and lean against it although Emily is still none-the-wiser to her spectator. "I don't think that's gonna work out for you." Her jacket falls faster than the ball which she manages to stumble on before seeing you and running full speed whilst shrieking out your name.
"Y/N!"
You walk a few steps to meet her halfway before letting out a oomph as she bangs into your chest and stumble backwards chuckling as you wrap your hands around her.
"I take it you missed me?" You smile into her hair still hugging her back.
"I- How- When did you- How did you-?" she pulls back from your hug and stares between you and Kelley.
"Which one of you- Actually how did you." She points back and forth between you two "Is this why you dragged my ass into the freezing rain?" Her question makes both of you laugh and nod before you walk over to Kelley. "Thanks dude" you try to shake her hand as a thank you before she takes it and pulls you into a hug "nuh uh we hug here. I'll take my leave so you two can catch up."
She sees the look exchanged between you both, and the lovestruck smile you've had on your face ever since you saw her. Both of you are still smiling to hard to notice so a half hearted wave is sent by Emily and a soft "bye" leaves your lips.
"When did you get here?" she asks still perplexed
"this morning" You say smiling and holding onto her hand to pull her into the parking lot of the park to lead her into your car as the rain has started and you aren't very eager to catch a cold.
"Movie night?"
She scoffs "of course"
You don't see her lingering glances at you. You've cut your hair, and carry yourself with a new wave of swagger that's oh so enticing. You could say the same about her. She's the same Emily from four years ago, but confident in her stature and still so familiar it's like time hasn't passed at all. She still makes the same jokes and the same exasperated smiles when you say something cheesy. It's a complete coincident that when you see the same movie pop up on your Netflix account you click it.
She comes and settles next to you in her pajamas and you hide a snicker at her penguin onesie. The situation gives you Deja Vu as she cuddles into you at the Movies opening scenes.
You try and motivate yourself into asking the question that burns through you. Halfway through the movie you realize you missed your chance 4 years ago. You won't miss it again. And so you start unsurely.
"Hey uh.. remember the promise we made" The squeakyness of your voice makes you cringe.
"Which one?" Her head tilts back to look at you.
"The never say I love you one. Ne dis Jamais Je'taime?"
Her heart races at the possibility of what your going to say, because she remembers that promise clear as day and how the butterflies in her stomach were forced back into caterpillars because you liking her back was not possible.
"Yeah I remember. Why?"
"I just. I think it's kind of useless now y'know. Because like, it's not true" you pause tearing your hand through your hair to try and find the words.
"I mean. Because I do love you. And not in that platonic best friends way but like the romantic way. It's not a new thing I liked you since I made that promise but I just think that. You should know and I know this probably fucked things up now because I don't know how you feel and-"
She cuts you off with a kiss, and her lips feel soft and sweet and all of your thoughts leave you. Finally when both of your lungs burn you pull back and her forehead rests against yours.
"Je'taime" her words have you pulling her back in again thought you both smile too hard for it to stay a kiss. Behind you the screen reflects you, both main characters kissing in the rain. Someday happened for you and Emily.
I’m Coming Home (Tobin Heath x Reader)
Tumblr media
After nearly 2 years overseas with the military, you’re finally coming home, and you’re coming home to Tobin Heath.
DISCLAIMER: The following is a MILITARY FIC, with everything going on, I wanted to put a disclaimer, just in case for those who may be triggered by what’s going on.
This is pure fluff.
Military homecomings.
You’d always seen videos of military homecomings, the relatives of the returning soldier cheering and crying, sometimes even screaming as their loved one returned safely home.
You only hoped that you would get a similar reaction, after being away for so long, nearly 2 years in fact, you were finally coming home, and you were coming home to Tobin Heath and you were coming home in the most public way possible.
You rubbed your hands together, nervously pacing the backstage area, the boots on your feet growing heavier and heavier as your nerves grew.
What if she wasn’t excited to see you?
What if she didn’t appreciate the surprise?
The questions plaguing you caused your mind to race.
The sound of approaching footsteps make you tense, your head on a swivel as you attempt to find a hiding spot, but when you realize it’s Christen Press who’s rounding the corner your muscles untense.
“Hey.” You smile as the forward envelopes you in a hug, the woman squeaking when you pick her up off her feet and spin her around.
“It’s so good to see you Y/N.” She grins, giving you the tightest of squeezes.
You had the pleasure of meeting Christen Press long ago, considering she was basically Tobin's other half, in a friendly sense.
You put her down with a grin, smiling when she places her hands on your shoulders.
"So, everything is set, are you ready?" She asks and you shrug.
"What if she doesn't like the-OW!" You wince as Christen smacks you in the arm.
"She's going to love it, because she loves YOU." She pokes you in the chest and you shrug, your cheeks dusted pink.
"You think so?"
"Yea-
"WHOA!"
The pair of you jump, your eyes widening when you see Emily Sonnett standing before you, the blonde's eyes wide.
"Wait, aren't you-
Christen dives on the blonde, slapping a hand over her mouth.
"SHHHH! TOBIN CAN'T FIND OUT ABOUT THIS!" She whisper yells, glancing down the hallway that Emily had made her way down to get to the two of you to make sure they were in fact alone.
Emily gives the two of you a thumbs up, Christen's hand leaving her mouth.
"I'm great at keeping secrets."
Your brows arch when Christen rolls her eyes.
"She isn't."
Emily pouts.
"I want to help! What do you need me to do, distract Tobin?" She asks with a grin, wiggling excitedly.
A smile stretches across your face.
"I like her."
Emily's grin widens.
"See, Y/N likes meeeeeeeee! Pleaseeeeeeeee?" Emily begs and Christen sighs.
"Okay, okay, but if you ruin the surprise, I'll kill you." She threatens and Emily's eyes widen.
“No need to get violent.”
                                                             ***
You watched with great pride as Tobin player her heart out, the woman assisting Christen on two goals.
Though the closer the end of the game got, the more the nerves within you riled up.
You paced the hallway you’d taken up occupancy in, your thoughts drifting to the day you’d met Tobin Heath.
                                                             ***
Meeting Tobin Heath had been what some would call, fate, if fate meant nearly bulldozing over the forward while on your morning jog, then yes, you would call it fate.
You grimace, your eyes wide as you screech to a halt, the woman crashing to the sidewalk, the woman she was walking with dropping down on the ground beside her.
You jerk your headphones out, your eyes wide in horror.
“Oh my god, I’m so sorry!” You say as you drop to your knees beside her, your eyes scanning her for any visible injuries.
“It’s okay, I’ve had worse.”
You frown as the woman begins to move to her feet, jumping up so you can help her up.
When your hands meet hers, a spark shoots up your arm, something that she must feel as well considering she stiffens.
The two of you pause, simply staring at one another, Y/E/C orbs locked with brown.
“Hi.” You whispered, the woman’s lips splitting into a grin.
“Hey.”
Beside her, her brunette friend moves to her feet, her lips split into a massive grin.
“I’m Y/N.” You whispered, giving her hand a squeeze, a squeeze she returned.
“I’m Tobin.”
                                                             ***
You smile as your back rests against a nearby wall, remembering the day you met both Tobin and Christen, the two a package deal of sorts.
Christen quickly became close with you as well, you were interested in dating her best friend after all.
Unfortunately, the night you told Tobin how you felt was the night before you left for another deployment, but Tobin didn’t care, the woman’s lips meeting yours in an unforgettable kiss.
She’d promised to wait for you, and she had, for two years she waited, and now, you were here, unbeknownst to her of course.
“Hey.”
You jump, a smile stretching across your face when you see Emily making her way towards you, donned in a yellow vest.
“Show time?” She asks and you nod, your hands beginning to tremble.
“Show time.”
                                                             ***
Emily makes her way back out to the bench, the blonde flopping down in the seat she’d just vacated beside Lindsey.
“Where’d you go?” She asks and Emily shrugs.
“Nowhere.”
Lindsey’s eyes narrow.
“You’re not a very good liar.” She snorts and Emily shushes her.
“Just watch.”
“Watch what?” Lindsey asks confused; the blonde’s question completely ignored by Emily.
The final whistle blows, which signals to you that you’re to take your position at the tunnel’s entrance.
Luckily for you Tobin keeps her head down, the woman high-fiving the Irish players on her way passed them.
You can’t help but grin when you see her, your heart skipping a beat in your chest.
You could only hope she would be as excited to see you, as you were her.
“WE HAVE A SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT TO MAKE!” A voice booms over the intercom, players from the USWNT and the Ireland Women’s National Team glancing at one another in confusion.
Tobin glances around, her brows furrowing when she sees the massive grin on Christen’s face.
“What?” She asks and Christen shrugs, her smile widening.
“Seriously Chris, what is it-
“Join me in welcoming home! Y/N Y/L/N after two years of deployment!”
Tobin’s eyes widen, the forward looking passed Christen to see you making your way out of the tunnel and towards her.
Her lips split in an enormous grin, her brown orbs immediately filling with tears as she runs towards you, bypassing her teammates.
You start to jog, unable to keep your composure as you run towards the woman who kept you going over the years.
She leaps into your arms when she gets to you, the fans cheering as she wraps her legs around your middle.
You spin the two of you around, smiling as Tobin surges in, her lips crashing against yours.
Her nails scrape against the back of your neck as the two of you kiss, reluctantly pulling apart when you can’t stop grinning.
Nearby, Emily grins, Lindsey smacking her in the arm.
“You knew, didn’t you?! You asshole!”
“If Em, knew then Christen HAD to have known...!” Kelley turns to Christen who shrugs.
“Who do you think helped her set it up?” She nods to you, grinning when she sees you bury your face in the crook of Tobin’s neck, tears streaming down your cheeks.
“You’re here.” She whispers in your ear and you sniffle, nodding.
“I’m here.”
You pull back, your forehead resting against hers.
You bump your nose against hers, the two of you chuckling.
“I’ve missed you so much.” You sniffle, your lips splitting in a massive grin.
“I love you.” You whisper softly, the woman’s eyes holding a glassy sheen.
“I love you too.”
Again, you close the distance between the two of you, Tobin’s lips meeting yours in a long overdue kiss.
“I’ve missed you too.” She whispers against your lips, burying her face in your neck as she cries.
“The thought of coming home to you is what kept me going, and now that I’m here I never want to let you go.” You confess, turning your head to kiss Tobin’s temple.
“Wherever you are is home, you ARE my home, Tobin.” You whisper, Tobin pulling back, tears streaming down her face, tears you’re quick to wipe away from her flawless skin.
“And you’re mine.” She whispers, leaning in to press another long, passionate kiss to your lips before she again whispers.
“And you’re mine.”
Karma's a bitch - (Emily Sonnett x reader)
This one is slightly different. Reader is a YouTuber with a popular channel called On The Wildside. The chapter switches behind let's say "real life" and then to "recorded clips". So it might be a bit weird and difficult but hopefully it makes sense. Hope you enjoy!!!
"What! Is! Up! My Wilders! Welcome back to the Wildside" I say my intro as I hold up my camera to record myself. I smirk as I spin around as I continue, "And for today's video you are going to see me get my revenge on my girlfriend!"
Along with being a personal trainer for high paying clients, I also run a popular lifestyle and fitness Channel on YouTube which had amassed over a million followers. I usually posted fitness videos and just daily lifestyle vlogs along with soccer challenges with the occasional prank video. It was through my channel I had actually met my girlfriend.
I had gotten in touch with the Portland Thorns to do a video with them for my channel as part of a series I had started, aiming to play all of the NWSL teams in a series of challenges. And she just happened to be one of the players involved in the video.
She was also the one who hit me in the back of the head with a miss kicked soccer ball.
And that's how I met Emily Sonnett.
After that day we kept in touch and with me going to watch her games with the thorns and even meeting up again to do a few more videos with the national team until she eventually asked me out, with much persuasion from her teammates.
And now we have been together for a long time just managing with the long distance. Until she got traded to Washington. And while she was sad to not be at the thorns, on the upside we got to move in together.
Which had both it's positives and negatives.
"So if you have seen the most recent videos or even my Instagram posts. You will know that Em has kinda gone mad with the pranks lately. She got me at Christmas with wrapping my entire office with wrapping paper".
*Emily fumbles with the camera before it eventually focuses on her face*
She gives the camera a toothy smile, "Hey guys!" She starts to walk around causing the camera to blur slightly but can just make our the main image. "So obviously Y/n isn't here today. She's out with a client at the moment and won't be back until later. So I decided to help her get into the Christmas spirit with a little prank".
Flips the camera to show Y/n's office. "So with the help of a few friends" .
*pans the camera to show Kelley and a few other teammates*
"We're going to wrap everything in her room with wrapping paper!"
*Time lapse fast forwarded to show them wrapping her entire room*
"So Y/n is after texting me saying she'll be home soon and she is bringing me dinner which almost makes me feel bad". Emily pauses and looks down the camera, "Almost". She grins at the camera, "So I'm going to set up one of her cameras in her office to film her reaction and yeah hopefully she's like it". She cackles before it transitions to the next clip.
*Shows a clip of Y/n walking into her office only to freeze in the doorway when she sees the room*
Y/n throws her head back with a groan, "Emily!" You can hear the sound of Emily laughing in the background before she appears in the doorway with a wide grin across her face.
"Merry Christmas!" The blonde giggles as Y/n picks up a book that was wrapped. Y/n quirked an eyebrow at her, "You got me everything I already own?"  The camera shakes slightly due to her nodding and laughing, "You get the gift of opening them all over again?"  Y/n sighs before she spots something spherical over the in the corner.
"You wrapped my exercise ball? How?"
"With great difficulty"
Y/n licks her lips too tired to even argue. She tears off the wrapping paper off the chair before sitting down. She groans with her head in her hands before looking up at the blonde holding the camera.
"I hate you so much"
"I love you too".
She slumps in her chair as she looks around the room. "I'm too tired to do anything about this" . She glares back at the blonde, "Why would you even do this?" "Cause I love you?" In response to that Y/n scrunches up the wrapping paper into a ball and throws it at her.
"I'm still pissed at her for that by the way. She used all our wrapping paper and it took me forever to find my stuff she moved" Y/n sighs into the camera. "She also put a load of plastic cups filled with water around our bedroom while I was sleeping. But that ended up backfiring on her".
*A fast forwarded time lapse of Emily covering the floor of their bedroom with cups of water as well as any flat surfaces so Y/n couldn't climb on anything. She holds up 3 fingers and counts down to the camera before blowing an air horn causing Y/n to shot up in the bed*
Y/n peaks her head out from under the blanket only to see Emily giggling with the camera. She looks around confused before spoting all the cups. She groans loudly, "For fuck sake Em". She narrows her eyes at the blonde, "You have way too much free time if this is what your doing".
Y/n grabs a few of the cups and purposely empties them over Emily's stuff. "Hey!" The blonde shouts but Y/n just gives her a look, "What? You come in here and stop me? Be my guest". Emily groans dramatically, "I didn't think this through".
"Did you even think at all?"
"Hurtful"
Y/n clears a few of the cups without making too much of a mess. She sighs as she rubs her eyes, "It's too early for this shit Emily". She points at the defender holding the camera, "I hope you know your cleaning this shit up". Emily chuckles behind the camera.
Y/n looks up on the doorframe where her pull up bar is stuck. She looks between herself and the bar before smirking. "Y/n don't-" Emily starts but it falls on deaf ears. As Y/n bends her knees and make the long jump and grabs onto the bar. Her momentum swings her forward to where Emily is standing.
*In an attempt to soften the hit, Y/n wraps her legs around her waist making sure she doesn't fall. But in doing so she dropped the camera with a grunt causing the screen to blackout*
"And one of the worst ones was when she went away for a match and hid a bunch of alarm clocks around our bedroom which were all set to different times in the morning. Leaving me to wake up every little while to find the bloody things".
*Short clips of Y/n sleeping in the dark bedroom only for an alarm clock to blare causing Y/n to jolt in her sleep. This repeats multiple times showing different clips*
"And ever since then she's has also throw flour bombs at me, woke me up by pouring water all over me and she turned the hallway outside our bedroom into a slip and slide.
*Shows brief clip of  Y/n slipping and falling on her ass*
"So I've decided to give her a taste of her own medicine!" Y/n exclaims to the camera. "So she's coming back late from a game tonight so I'm going to set up a few cameras and pretend to be mad at her and tell her I'm sleeping in the living room".
Y/n smirks at the camera, "One thing you need to know about Emily Sonnett is she loves her cuddles. Especially after a game. She's like a fricken Koala when she sleeps. She just clings onto you". She moves to set the camera down so it has a clear view of the bedroom, "And this is going to set up for my main prank for tomorrow".
"So I'm going to go set up everything. And wait until she gets home". Y/n gives a thumbs up to the camera before it times skips.
*Time has passed to show it's pretty late now. You can hear the jingling of keys before the door opens and closes. Y/n freezes before smiling at the camera and jumps up and starts gathering stuff*
Emily steps in the doorway and drops her bags. But scrunches her face when see her girlfriend isn't asleep and is in fact awake. "Y/n/n? What are you doing?" With an annoyed look on her face, Y/n looked over her shoulder before going back to gathering a blanket and a pillow, "I'm going to sleep in the living room".
Emily looks at her weird, "What? Why?" She moves to grab her hand but Y/n just pulls her arm away, "What's wrong?" Y/n just shrugs her off, "I'm going to sleep on the couch".
Emily crosses her arms upset as Y/n gathers up the last of her things, "Did something happen? Did I do something?" But Y/n just ignores her before shuffling out of the room. Emily curses quietly unaware that there's a camera in the room and that this is all a prank.
After a long sigh Emily pulls out her phone and dials quickly before holding it up to her ear. After a brief minute she starts starting
"Hey Kel did I forget an anniversary?"
*Cuts to the camera set up in their living room which is facing their couch. Y/n has a make shift bed set up as she's scrolling through her phone before she untangles herself from the blankets leaving to go to the bathroom*
After Y/n leaves a minute later you can shuffling off camera before Emily wrapped in blankets comes into view. She pauses at the couch before she jumps and flops on the couch making sure she's wrapped up in her blanket. Completely unknown that this is getting caught on camera.
A few minutes later Y/n comes back with her phone in hand. It swaps to her phones point of view as it shows a close up of Emily's face peaking out from the bundle of blanket. "What are you doing?" Y/n asked desperately trying to fight the small smile coming to her face. But Emily just smiles cutely up at her, "We're sleeping in the living room". Y/n groans quietly, "Noooo". But Emily just keeps smiling, "Together". Y/n shakes her head, "No. I am".
But Emily just ignores her and pulls the blanket back and nods towards her, "C'mon!" Y/n just sighs, "Kay fine. You sleep here and I'll sleep in the bed". Emily almost falls out of the bed trying to stop her, "Nooooo".
They have a mini staring competition before it cuts to the next frame where the two are seen cuddling on the couch with Emily lying on top of Y/n's chest.
"Okay! So last night's prank didn't go exactly how I planned" Y/n starts as she's back holding the camera. "BUT! I have something else planned!" She exclaims.
"So last night was really just meant for her to think I'm mad at her for some reason or another. Which sets up today's prank perfectly" she explains. "So I'm sure many of you have seen this one already but I'm going to put my own twist on it".
"So Emily and Kelley have gone out to train together today and then they're going to come back here to hang out" Y/n starts before smiling down at the camera, "but I'm going to pretend to just come out of the shower". She grins, "Well.... you'll see what happens".
*Camera cuts a clip of the kitchen where Emily and Kelley are. Emily is on her phone by the island while Kelley is looking through their fridge (obviously). Y/n walks in with a towel wrapped tightly around her*
Y/n walks around for a bit before Emily looks up and smiles before going back to her phone. It takes a second before Emily does a double take, eyes widen when she realizes that Y/n is supposedly only walking around in a towel.
"Y/n!" Emily gawked causing Kelley to look over and snort at the sight. Y/n just looks at her girlfriend unbothered, "What?" Emily just looks her up and down motioning to her lack of attire, "Uh!" "What?" Y/n asks frustratedly. "What are you doing?" Emily asked while Kelley just watched on amused.
"Nothing!" Y/n throws her hands up. "Get dressed" Emily says. "Why?" Y/n asks nonchalantly. "Your in a towel!" Emily says angrily. "So what?" Y/n just retorts. "Cause we have company!" Emily argues motioning to Kelley standing at the fridge who just holds her hands up in surrender.
Y/n just shrugs, "So what? It's only Kelley. She doesn't care". "I care! Only I get to see you like this!" Emily shouts angrily. Y/n runs a hand through her hair, "I don't see the problem I'm covered! I'm covered". "I don't care go get changed" Emily says sternly which is a bit weird to see from her usual happy, upbeat persona.
"She's not bothered by it" Y/n defends herself motioning her arm in Kelley's direction. "I'm bothered by it!" Sonnet claps back getting even angrier, "just go put something on".
Hiding her smirk Y/n progresses with the prank, "You know what? You know what? No. Now this". Y/n then turns her back to her girlfriend as she faces Kelley who's eyes widen substantially as Y/n untucks the towel still holding the ending with her hands.
Catching onto the joke, Kelley bursts our laughing which only fuels Emily's rage further as she stands there stunned that her girlfriend would do such a thing. "This is happening" Y/n says throwing a look back at Emily over her shoulder. "Y/n! That's not-" Emily stutters out trying to find the words.
"She's seen me like this before and so have you" Y/n says as Kelley is still gasping for breath as she laughs. "What are you-" Emily starts only to stop when Y/n drops the towel to reveal one of Y/n's dresses which she has pulled down the sleeves to hide underneath the towel.
Emily's jaw drops as Kelley falls into another fit of giggles as she leans against the island. "Gotcha!" Y/n grins. Emily's mouth opened and closed several times but no words came out as she just stuttered unintelligently, "Uh I um?" Y/n moves to pick up the camera and hold it in front of Emily, "Say Hi to the internet Babe".
If at all possible, Emily's cheeks flushed even darker, "You recorded all this?!" Y/n hummed contently, "And last night". Emily leans back against the island and slides down to the floor, "Last night! That was a prank?" Y/n giggles, "Yup!" Emily slumps back, "Thank god! I thought you were pissed at me! I thought I forgot an anniversary or something!"
There is some shuffling and a bit of blurry imagines before it shows Y/n sitting on the ground beside Emily as she grins, "Nah. Just payback for all the pranks you've pulled on me recently". Emily buried her face in her girlfriend's shoulder letting out a small, "I'm sorry" although it came out muffled.
Y/n leans her cheek on Emily's head, "It's okay. But just remember next time you prank me, remember how I got you back". "Emily pouted at her girlfriend, "Fine. No more pranks". Y/n smiled as she pressed a kiss to the top of her blonde crown. But of course Kelley had to interrupt.
"If there is ever a prank war, I'm calling Y/n for my team".
Emily growled at her teammate as she koala hugged her girlfriend's side, "No!" Y/n giggled as she shrugged at Kelley, "Sorry Kels I'm taken". "Damn right you are" Emily mumbles as she presses herself even further into Y/n's embrace.
Y/n smiled as she holds up the camera, "Well that's it for my revenge pranks back on my girlfriend. If you want to see the full videos of Emily's pranks on me, I'll leave them in the description. Comment below for any videos you would like to see". "No more prank videos" Emily whined at the camera causing the other two to laugh before Y/n finished her outro. "Well that's it for now. Until next time. Peace out Wilders!"
Ghosted (Emily x Reader)
Tumblr media
Request 1: sonnett where reader is really good friends with a goalie(your choice) and sonnett gets jealous because reader and goalie play for the same club and Emily is in Europe. Do she goes to Lindsey and reader thinks Emily is going to breakup with her and pushes her closer to the goalie and it’s a whole shit show
Request 2: Can you do a Emily Sonnett imagines where her and the reader are together but the reader use to date someone else on the team ( you can chose) and the comments gets to Emily. And the Reader shows Emily how much she loves her?
Request 3: Something with Jane Campbell please
Author’s Note: I thought these three would work very well together, so I combined them. Also, this one takes an interesting turn in the end and if you look closely enough there are hints to a very interesting dynamic and why reader and jane wouldn’t work out. Let me know what you think. I live for interactions and stuff. They help to keep me motivated.
It had been one hell of a year. It had started with both you and your girlfriend getting zero notice when the thorns traded her to Orlando and you to Houston. Then you had been trapped on opposite ends of the country due to the pandemic. That distance only got bigger when she decided to go to Sweden when Orlando pulled out of the challenge cup.
But the two of you had made it work. Well, at least you thought you had made it work. apparently, Emily thought differently, if the silent treatment you had gotten the second you stepped into camp 3 hours ago was anything to go by.
Hell, she wouldn’t even look in your direction. All you wanted was to hold your girlfriend (cause you hadn’t seen her in person in almost 6 months) and it felt like she didn’t even give a fuck that you were there. And Lindsey intercepted you every time you tried to get close.
You smiled as you approached your blond girlfriend, leaning on the squat rack next to her. Normally you’d wrap your arms around her and kiss her neck, but you didn’t want to overstep with this weird tension happening between you.
“Hey Em, wanna partner?” you asked softly, almost shyly.
Emily didn’t even turn to acknowledge you.
“I’m already with Linds,” She said tensely. Since when had she been so on edge around you?
You frowned, your eyebrows furrowed as you tried to understand what was happening between you and your girlfriend. You glanced down at your shoes, suddenly finding them very interesting.
“Oh, maybe-“ You started, poking the squat rack with your shoe. You looked up, only to find that Emily had already walked away and joined Lindsey on the other side of the gym.
You sighed, finishing your thought into the blank air around you. “we could do dinner or something later. Guess not,”
You blew out a long breath, willing yourself to hold back the tears. She didn’t even wait to see what you were going to say. Your eyes followed her as she hugged the blond midfielder and laughed loudly at whatever she was saying. It was like a knife in your heart.
“What’s going on with you and Miss Sweden?” Hands on your shoulders and the voice right next to your ear should have made you jump, but you were too used to Jane’s scare tactics.
You rolled your eyes and shrugged the keeper off of you, your gaze never leaving Emily. “Honestly, I have no clue,” You sighed deeply. She had never been like this with you before, and you definitely hadn’t expected your reunion to go like this.
“Maybe it’s just jet lag. You know how she gets when she doesn’t get enough sleep,” Jane shrugged, poking at your dimples, trying to get you to laugh. You batted her hand away.
“The question is how you know that,” You said, sending her a scathing look.
She smirked impishly, wiggling her eyebrows. “I live with you, remember?”
You dramatically rolled your eyes, shoving your best friend. “I don’t think You’d ever let me forget,”
The only good thing about your trade to the dash was that you got to hang out with your best friend every day. You and Jane had known each other since college and instantly hit it off as friends. When you had been traded, Jane also just happened to be looking for a roommate and things had worked out pretty well.
“Well, if you’re still looking for a dinner date, I’m free tonight,”  Jane hummed, wrapping an arm around you again.
“Been there, done that,” You scoffed playfully, shoving her again, but she didn’t let go of you this time.
So maybe the two of you had tried in college. It was more of a fling than anything else, and it had mutually ended on great terms. You loved each other, but you weren’t in love and that was alright. You decided you were way better off as friends than lovers and left it at that. Plus, you had kinda fallen insanely hard for a certain blond cavalier.
“Not that kind of date,” She giggled, letting you shove her ways this time (definitely taking note of how your lips ticked up and patting herself on the back for clearing some of the clouds on your sunny personality away).
“Whatever you say, now shut up and spot me,”
The two of you were so caught up that you didn’t see the annoyed blue eyes following you from across the room, or the clenched fists and jaw that would have told you exactly what the issue with your girlfriend was.
*****
You tried to smile as you entered the dining room, hoping that you would finally have the chance to get to the bottom of whatever was bothering your girlfriend.
You spotted her from across the room, seated at a table with Rose, Sam, and Mal. You released a breath that you didn’t know you were holding at the absence of a certain blond midfielder. Emily had been attached to her side, and watching them was like a knife in your chest, every interaction a slice at what felt like the tiny thread keeping your relationship together.
“Hey, is this seat taken?” You asked as you approached the table, stopping short of the seat next to your girlfriend.
She tensed, and you noted how her jaw clenched with furrowed eyebrows. She opened her mouth, but before she could respond another body slid between the two of you.
“Yeah, it is,” Lindsey said firmly, setting her plate down right in front of the seat in question. You frowned, and your fingers tightened around your plate. You bit your lip in an attempt to not say the thing that was on your mind. Despite how pissed off you were with the woman, she was your friend too.
You glanced around the table that was now awkwardly staring at you, your eyes landing on an empty seat next to Mal and across from Emily.
“Alright, what about that one?”
“Taken too,” Lindsey said shortly with a shrug. Mal glared at her. “No, it’s not, sit Y/n,”
The team was growing tired of the tension between you, and how sad you looked.
“Thanks,” You mumbled, sliding in beside Mal.
Silence fell over the table, and you shifted uncomfortably in your seat. You never felt so unwelcome around your friends before.
“Well I better get going,” Emily said after a few minutes of uncomfortable silence, shoving the chair back and abruptly standing. Lindsey stood up next to her, wrapping a protective arm around her waist. Your chest ached at the hand placement and how Emily leaned into her.
You shot up too, clearing your throat and extending your hand. “Wait Em, I thought maybe we could talk after dinner?” You said, desperation clear in your voice. The table had never heard you like this before, had never seen a crack in your typically cool and unfailingly in control exterior.
“She’s already got plans,” Lindsey said with an eye roll, and Emily seems to tuck herself further into the taller midfielder. You gulped down the defeat and desperation threatening to crawl out of your chest.
“Oh, um maybe I could join you then?” You asked hopefully.
“Private plans Y/n.” Lindsey snapped, already beginning to guide Emily out of the room, seemingly careless to what you had to say. The blond defender didn’t even give you the courtesy of eye contact as she left.
“Sure, I guess I’ll see you tomorrow then. I love you, Emily,” You called after their backs, watching them go.
Everything in you seemed to deflate. It felt like she was leaving with a piece of you like she didn’t even care you were crumbling behind her. You didn’t try to stop the tears as they fell this time, slumping miserably back into your seat.
A warm presence knelt next to you, and soft but calloused hands gently wiped the tears burning down your face.
You met the keeper’s concerned blue eyes and allowed her to pull you into her strong embrace, hiding your face in her neck.
“I don’t know what I did wrong,” You sobbed. Jane rubbed large circles on your back with one hand and squeezed you tight with the otherHands-onother hand was trying to hold your broken pieces together.
“I don’t know either,” She said, kissing the side of your head.
You missed Emily pausing at the door to send you one last look, but Jane didn’t. Her eyes bored into the blond defender. If she thought she could just jerk you around like this with no consequences then she had another thing coming.
Jane wasn’t romantically attracted to you, but you were her best friend and she wasn’t about to let you continue to get hurt. Emily might be able to avoid you, but she wouldn’t be able to avoid Jane, the keeper would make sure of it.
****
“Alright cut the Bullshit Sweden, you’ve been ignoring Y/n for a week. What the fuck is your problem,” Jane growled, stepping into the nearly empty locker room and glaring at your girlfriend. She knew you could more than take care of yourself, but this had gone on long enough.
Emily tensed at the new presence, back straightening and eye going wide. She hadn’t bet on the head of the Houston department of defense to get involved.
“Fuck off Campbell,” Lindsey said back, stepping so she was standing protectively in front of her best friend.
“I will not because your best friend there is hurting my best friend,” Jane took another step towards the duo, puffing out her chest.
“Yeah right, she’s barely even noticed,” Emily scoffed, crossing her arms like a petulant child.
“See, I’m going to pretend you didn’t say that considering she’s cried herself to sleep every night since she’s been here,” Jane said, taking another terrifying step forward, stabbing her finger wildly into the air.
She had been the one to hold you while you sobbed yourself to sleep because you were sure Emily had fallen out of love with you. The one who watched you agonize over every interaction you had with your girlfriend leading up to camp, trying to find where you had gone wrong. The one who listened to you degrade yourself for apparently driving Emily away and right into Lindsey’s arms. She was watching as you literally ripped yourself apart over this.
“And what, You didn’t enjoy comforting your new girlfriend?” Lindsey scoffed loudly, shoving Jane’s hand (which was practically touching her chest) away.
“What?” Jane asked shocked.
Emily peeked over Lindsey’s shoulder, scowling at the keeper. Anyone with eyes knew what they meant. “Look, I know she’s cheating so you can both drop the friends act,”
Jane oils to help the laugh that bubbled out of her lips. God, Emily was clueless if she thought you two were anything more than friends. Sure you had tried in college, but there weren’t romantic feelings there. You both wanted such different things out of a partner and agreed that you were better off as friends. Emily was your person, and Jane would be damned if anyone said anything different.
“You’re out of your fucking mind if you think she wants anyone but you and if you weren’t so far up Horan‘s ass you would know that. If you wanna break up with her to date Miss Portland then grow some balls and do it, but don’t you dare try and ghost the sweetest person in the world,”
“You would love that wouldn’t you?” Emily spat.
Jane rolled her eyes. “No, because it would hurt her more than you already have. She loves you, and I thought you loved her. If you do, then you should show it,”
Emily seemed to soften at Jane’s words. She did love you, more than life itself. She really had to talk this whole thing out with you. Jane didn’t give her a chance to respond, deciding that storming off to find you and make sure you were ready for practice was a more productive use of time (she would never admit that it scared her a little to leave you alone these days).
Emily wasn’t a jealous person. At least she tried not to be. But it was really fucking difficult when it came to you and your friendship with Jane. Well, it was difficult in the beginning, when she had you next to her, but with you so far away it was nearly unbearable.
She hadn’t minded that the Dash moved you into Jane’s apartment, but then the comments started and they wouldn’t leave her alone. Instead of turning to you, talking it out with you, she had gone running to her own best friend. And in her effort to run from the fear that you wouldn’t choose her, she had hurt you in the process.
She watched you from across the field, taking in the slight tilt of your head and slump of your shoulders. You smiled tightly at the keeper as she approached you, but Emily could tell that it didn’t reach your eyes, even from across the field. She also knew it wasn’t the blinding smile you saved solely for her. How hadn’t she noticed it before?
 “Jane was a little crude but she’s right you know,” Lindsey said, wrapping an arm around Emily’s shoulder, her eyes easily finding you.
She felt bad about how Emily was treating you.
“About which part?” Emily asked, raising her eyebrow and crossing her arms. Jane had said a whole lot, and she couldn’t find it within herself to disagree with them. It was childish to ignore you, and for her to be oblivious to your obvious feelings.
“Don’t play dumb,” Lindsey scoffed, pinching Emily’s side a little harder than necessary. She didn’t like being the middleman between the two of you. You were her friend too after all.
Emily sighed crossing her arms a little tighter around herself. “I know. I need to talk to talk to her,”
“I’m sure when she finds out what’s bothering you, there’ll be a whole lot more than talking. Isn’t communication one of those rules between the two of you?” Lindsey asked with a smirk, laughing loudly when Emily shoved her. The team knew about your relationship… dynamic and Lindsey was sure Emily was in for it when you realized exactly why the defender had broken your most sacred agreement.
“Shut up,”
Emily’s cheeks flavored up at the implication. He was sure you’d come up with a very… creative… way to aid her in expressing her feelings next time and show her how much you loved her when you found out what this whole thing was about.
*****
You watched Emily very carefully from your perch on the end of the bed. She had dragged you here right after practice, and as soon as the door closed the words were pouring out of her lips.
You sat quietly, letting her finally get out the emotions she had been keeping from you for so long. She explained how the comments on Houston’s latest photo of you and Jane had started this whole shit show, and how terrified she was that you would decide you didn’t want to deal with the distance.
You let her pace back and forth as she told you about how she didn’t want to confront the issue, so she thought ignoring you would be a better course of action. It didn’t give you a chance to tell her that you didn’t want to be with her anymore.
She finally paused, turning to look at you with wide tearful eyes, wringing her hands nervously in front of her.
“I don’t have romantic feelings for Jane,” You said seriously, looking your girlfriend right in the eyes. You wanted her to know how true those words were. She knew that tone and had this been a different conversation it would have sent a chill down her spine.
“I know I just-“ She started, but you cut her rambling off an eyebrow raise and your firm voice“Got jealous and thought that cutting your losses was better than coming to me,”
It was a rule in your relationship- communication was king. The only way things got done was if you talked about them. You talked through every aspect of your relationship, every like and dislike, every limit and desire. This situation broke every rule you had established and that didn’t sit well with you. You couldn’t be the only one initiating (or trying to), she had to do it too (especially if she was uncomfortable with something) for this whole thing to work. It scared you a little that she had just shut down and run off to Lindsey.
Emily nodded slightly, staring a hole in your shirt.
“I thought you had moved on already,” She mumbled.
You stood from the bed, gently using a finger to tilt her head so you could look her in the eyes. You raised an eyebrow. “So you got cozy with Lindsey to make me feel as jealous as you were and then wouldn’t respond to me as punishment?”
“I’m sorry, I just thought it would hurt less,” She mumbled, captivated by your y/e/c eyes and the little swirl of deeper emotion hidden inside.
You nodded. stepping closer so your noises were almost touching and gently grasping her shoulders. “I love you Emily Ann Sonnett, even when you’re being a dumbass and ghosting me,”
She could feel your breath fanning over her lips, only adding to the weight of your words.
“I love you too,” Emily said, and you could see the truth to her words in her blue eyes.
You smirked. “I know,”
You leaned down and finally connected your lips. She grabbed your collar and pulled you closer, pouting all of her emotions into the kiss, trying to show you how much she loved you and how sorry she was for hurting you.
Your lips moved together in a very familiar dance, slow and full of all of the emotions between you. At some point, you had flipped the two of you around so Emily was seated on edge of the bed. You pulled back and began to trail kisses down your girlfriend’s neck.
She tilted her head to give you more room, sighing and moaning as you trailed your way down her chest, stomach, and thighs, placing kisses as you went until you were kneeling between her legs. Your fingers toyed with the waistband of her pants, an annoying cocky smirk plaster on your face when she whined that you were going too slow.
“No, no baby girl. We’re going to work on your communication skills, so I’m not going to do anything unless you tell me exactly what you want,”
Keep it a Secret - Kristie Mewis x Reader
Prompt: Maybe an imagine, where R is the sister of one of the players (you can choose who) and R and Kristie are trying to hide their relationship at camp, because they know that their sisters would freak if they would know about them. Love your imagines.
Note: This really spiralled and became a little angstier than intended and ended up not really matching the prompt anymore.
“Do you have any idea how hot you are?” Y/N mumbled against Kristie’s neck, hips pressing her into the wall of her hotel room.
Kristie tipped her head back, giving Y/N more room to scrape her teeth along her neck.
“Fuck, you are making it really hard to keep this a secret,” Kristie bit her lip, trying to supress her moan, hand gripping Y/N’s neck.
Y/N ignored her, switching sides and making her way back up. One hand sliding up her shirt while the other braced against the wall, both rolling their hips into each other.
With a groan, Kristie placed both hands on Y/N’s chest, pushing her away. Y/N pulled her hand out from Kristie’s shirt, but tried to lean in and kiss her girlfriend, only to be pushed away again.
Y/N pulled back, taking a full step away, confused.
Kristie reached up and ran a thumb along Y/N’s bottom lip.
“If we don’t stop now, we won’t, we won’t,” she repeated when she noticed Y/N about to argue.
“you know I’m right, because I very much liked where that was going. But that will do nothing keep this a secret.”
“Ugh!” Y/N groaned, taking a few steps and flopping backwards on the bed. “Then you need to stop looking that good.” Y/N moved to be leaning on her elbows, shamelessly eyeing her girlfriend.
As if summoning them, there was a series of loud knocks on the door.
“Hey losers! Open up!” Rose called through the door.
Both made eye contact and laughed.
“Fix your hair, you have a just about to be fucked look. Oh wait,” Y/N let the sentence hang, smirking and getting up to open the door.
As soon as the door opened, Rose, Mal, Sonnett, and Lindsey plowed in, each making themselves at home in the room.
“What are you two doing?” Lindsey tossed a random sock at Kristie.
“Don’t worry about it,” Y/N winked.
“What aren’t we worrying about?” Sam questioned as she entered the room.
“What these two losers were doing before we got here,” Sonnett filled in.
Y/N and Kristie both purposefully avoiding each other as the group caught up now that they were all back together for camp. The couple had somehow gotten lucky and were sharing a room, after having been apart for months, the two just wanted to be alone but knew their friends weren’t going to be leaving them alone anytime soon.
The two had been together for almost a year, unfortunately being separated for most of it due to playing on separate teams. Luckily, they were both from Massachusetts, making off season much easier to continue to keep their relationship secret. Sam was oblivious to most things around her, so keeping it secret from her was easy. Short of the couple making out in front of them, Sam would never figure it out.
Christen however, was too perceptive for her own damn good. She could easily figure them, probably already had. She had been sending them strange looks the last couple camps but had yet to question them.
It was hard for Kristie and Y/N to keep their relationship secret though. Both women generally being very tactile, enjoying physical touch. They struggled to keep their hands to themselves. Thankfully they had all been friends for years before the two had transitioned to a relationship, so minimal touching didn’t really alert anyone to a change.
“Sibling!” Christen called as she burst into the room, jumping onto Y/N, pulling her into a hug.
“Hey Chris,” Y/N chuckled at her enthusiasm, hugging her sister back.
The group all made their way down for supper shortly after. Y/N instinctually placed her hand on Kristie’s lower back as they walked through the door, Kristie leaning into the touch briefly before they caught themselves and pulled apart quickly. Each focussing on the ground as they walked to separate tables.
Christen smirked.
Kristie and Y/N kept sneaking glances throughout the meal, one would glance up to see the other already looking, then both would look away blushing.
As soon as the door closed to their hotel room, Kristie had Y/N pinned to the wall. Hands gliding up her sides under her shirt, scratching her nails down.
“Fuck Kristie,” Y/N moaned out, arching into the touch.
Kristie stepped forward, pinning Y/N’s hips to the wall with her own.
Y/N gripped the hem of Kristie’s shirt, pulling it up and off. Then gripped her hips and spun them around, hands moving to Kristie’s hamstrings and lifting her, who immediately wrapped her legs around Y/N.
Y/N carried Kristie to the bed, gently placing her down, pressing herself the length of Kristie’s body. She shifted one leg between Kristie’s, who started to roll her hips up.
Kristie moaned, pawing at Y/N’s shirt, pulling it off of her.
“Open up losers!” Rose banged on the door again.
“No,” Y/N moaned into Kristie’s neck. “Maybe if we pretend we aren’t here they’ll leave.”
“You know they won’t” Kristie pushed Y/N off.
Grabbing a sweater, throwing one at Y/N, Kristie opened the door.
“What took you so long?” Mal gave them weird looks as they walked in.
“Don’t worry about it,” Y/N shot them a wink.
“Gross, is this bed safe to sit on?” Lindsey walked in, picking up on the inuendo.
“Don’t be crude Lindsey,” Sam fake gagged.
The rest of the group laughed.
“Yea, look at these two, not a chance there’s anything happening,” Sonnett added. “Besides, Kristie could do waaaayy better.” She added, flopping onto the bed next to Y/N, knocking their shoulders together to show she was joking.
Y/N rolled her eyes, satisfied none of them had figured it out.
The group hung out until curfew and then all dispersed to their own rooms.
Kristie and Y/N getting ready for bed, Kristie messing up the one bed to make it look slept in before sliding into the other with Y/N, rolling her onto her back with a hard kiss.
Things quickly escalated, having been interrupted twice already, both were ready to combust with sexual frustration.
Both exhausted, Kristie rested her head on Y/N’s chest, absentmindedly running her fingers on Y/N’s stomach.
“How much do you think Sam would freak if she found out what happened minutes after she left this bed?” Y/N chuckled.
“Sam freaks out over a stain on her shirt, she would have an aneurism if she knew anything about this,” Kristie looked up, grinning.
Both were right, they knew Same would lose her mind if she found out Kristie and Y/N were together. Christen they weren’t sure how she would react, probably be upset they didn’t tell her, hopefully be supportive. They had decided to just keep it between them for now, at first it was because it had happened so suddenly, then they just liked the simplicity of people not knowing, now it was getting harder to keep secret; it was at the point they knew it was serious and would progressing into something long term.
“How obvious do you think we could be before Sam figures it out?” Y/N smirked.
Kristie propped up on her elbow, looking down at Y/N. She could see the insecurity on her face. Placing a gentle kiss on Y/N’s forehead, she stared down.
“Do you want to tell them?” Kristie asked gently.
They both knew Sam would be the one that would be an issue when they told their siblings. Nothing seemed to phase Christen and was always so supportive of Y/N.
“No, I don’t know, I know Sam will freak out,” Y/N rambled, unsure.
“Where’s this coming from babe?”
“Fuck, I don’t Kristie. I don’t know if it’s because I finally get to see you after so long, but all day I just wanted to touch you. Just hold your hand, sit with you at supper, you know, stuff like that,” Y/N rambled.
“Me too Y/N/N,” Kristie leaned down and placed a gentle kiss on her lips. “What’s going on in that head of yours?” she placed another kiss on her forehead.
Y/N just shrugged noncommittally. Kristie just watched her.
“I just, I know it was my idea to keep us a secret, but it’s getting hard. Being away from you so much is hard. Not being able to fly out to you on bye weeks is hard. Having to be the last one to hear if you’re ok when you go down is hard. It’s just all getting so hard.”
“Then let’s tell people, or at the very least our sisters, or just stop hiding it,” Kristie made it sound so easy.
“No, we don’t need to do that. I’m just overwhelmed or something, I don’t know,” Y/N wouldn’t make eye contact with Kristie.
Kristie gently held Y/N’s face, scratching her nails into the baby hairs.
“Why don’t you sleep on it? See how you feel in the morning, decide from there.” Kristie suggested.
Y/N nodded, tugging Kristie to lay back down. Running her fingers up and down Kristie’s spine, Y/N tried to settle her mind.
She knew she loved Kristie, but she knew she couldn’t tell her. Sonnett had been right, Kristie could do much better than her. As much as Kristie said she was alright telling their sisters, she knew this wasn’t as serious for Kristie as it was for her.
Y/N was gone when Kristie woke up the next morning. Kristie got ready quickly and made her way down for breakfast hoping to find her girlfriend.
Kristie was disappointed when she walked into the banquet room and didn’t see Y/N.
“Where’s your other half?” Mal teased, walking up behind Kristie.
“What?” Kristie turned around quickly.
“Y/N, where’s Y/N?” Mal asked again.
“Oh, um, I don’t know. She was gone before I got up this morning,” the pair made their way through the buffet.
Kristie knew Y/N hadn’t slept much the night before, because she too had been awake most of the night. What Y/N had said last night kept her mind running. She wanted to tell her sister too, but she knew Sam would not react well. Not because she didn’t like Y/N or think they would be a good couple, but because that’s just who Sam was. Kristie knew Y/N had a tendency to overthink and internalize most of her thoughts. Christen she didn’t know. That one could go either way, but Kristie knew how close the sisters were and could see how hard it was getting for Y/N to not tell Christen. Kristie also knew how protective Christen was of her younger sister.
Halfway through breakfast, Y/N tried to sneak into the banquet room, hoping to get in undetected. Kristie had been watching the door the entire meal though, so saw her as soon as she walked in. Her eyes followed Y/N as she walked to the buffet table. Y/N was dressed in her running clothes, drenched in sweat, clearly having just come back from a run. Kristie watched as Y/N grabbed a bottle of water and a banana before trying to sneak out again.
Kristie shot out of her chair when she saw Y/N leave the room again, concerned at how strange Y/N was being.
“Y/N!” Kristie called out as the girl tried to duck into the stairwell.
Kristie could see her shoulder drop before turning around.
“Hey Kristie, I was just about head up for a shower. Wanna join?” Y/N waggled her eyebrows, but Kristie could see behind the invitation.
Kristie quickly closed the distance, pushing Y/N into the stairwell.
“What’s going on?” Kristie placed her hand on Y/N’s neck, the other fisting her shirt.
“Went for a run,” Y/N shrugged.
“We have a double day today, why would you go for a run?” Kristie challenged, applying pressure to Y/N’s hip.
Y/N just shrugged again, making to pull away from Kristie. Kristie applied more pressure to the hip to keep in her in place.
The two made eye contact, each challenging the other. Kristie debating how much to push her girlfriend, Y/N trying to push her emotions down.
Kristie slowly released her grip, taking a step back.
“I’ll see you later Kris,” Y/N called out, turning and running up the stairs.
Kristie released a sigh, letting her shoulders drop. She was about to make her way out of the stairwell when the door opened again, Christen walking in.
“Hey, everything ok? I saw Y/N sneak out and you rush after,” Christen asked softly. She knew something was going on between her sister and the midfielder.
“Hmm? Oh yea, all good,” Kristie tried to step around Christen.
“Kristie?” Christen gently grabbed Kristie’s arm as she walked past. “I know there’s something between the two of you, it’s ok.”
Kristie’s head shot up; eyes nervous at the declaration.
“It’s ok,” Christen repeated, rubbing her hand up and down Kristie’s arm.
“We’ve been together almost a year. I think she wants to start telling people, she mentioned it last night. But we both know Sam will lose her mind, no idea how you would react,” Kristie answered softly, knowing there was no point in denying it now.
Christen pulled Kristie into a hug. “It’s ok. I figured it out a couple camps ago. You guys are great together, even when you’re trying to hide it.”
Kristie hugged her back, letting out a small chuckle, “of course you figured it out.”
“No one else knows, if that helps, and Sam will never figure it out if you guys don’t tell her,” Christen reassured.
“I’m going to go talk to her, she always runs when she is stuck in her head,” Kristie pulled away, starting up the stairs.
“Hey Kristie,” Christen called her back, “she feels the same way,”
Kristie gave her a strange look but Christen just walked out the stairwell.
Slowly making her way into their shared room, Kristie heard the water running in the shower, she settled on the bed to wait.
Y/N walked out in loose sweats and a sports bra, drying her hair with a towel.
“Hey babe, feeling better?”
“Yeah,” Y/N nodded, “I’m sorry about this morning, and uhh last night.”
“Christen knows,” Kristie decides to just cut to the chase.
“I’m not surprised,” Y/N shrugged her shoulders, “she always picks up on this kind of thing.”
“You’re ok with that?”
Y/N shrugged again, “she knows, not like I can change that.”
Kristie shook her head, Y/N was being difficult about this.
“Y/N/N,” Kristie trailed off, not knowing what else to add.
“Really, I am. It was going to start coming out at some point and Christen is pretty observant, I’m surprised it took her this long.”
“Alright,” the midfielder hesitated, “so what do you want to do now?”
Y/N shrugged again, pulling a shirt on, “we keep going as is I guess.”
“Give me something to work with here Y/N!” Kristie flopped on the back, rubbing both hands down her face.
“What do you want from me?” Y/N snapped. “What do you want from this? From us?”
Kristie sat up at the sudden outburst, Y/N looking at her, eyes hard. She cocked her head to the side, confused at the abrupt change.
“I want whatever you want Y/N/N,” Kristie began cautiously, “umm, I want you, to be with you, to continue to be your girlfriend. I’m not really sure what you want me to say.”
Y/N continued to stare at Kristie. Kristie staring back, having no idea what else to say, no idea what Y/N wanted to her to say.
Finally, Y/N’s shoulder dropped, chin dropping too, she took a shaking breath in.
Kristie softened, “there’s more to this than people finding out, isn’t there?”
Y/N shrugged, only to slowly nod.
“You want to be with me, with um, be together?” Y/N stammered out.
“Of course,” Kristie replied with no hesitation. “I am crazy about you Y/N, there is no one else I could picture myself, not now, not ever. What are you thinking?”
Y/N shrugged her shoulders again, starting to pace the room.
“I don’t know, my mind just seems to be all over the place right now. What Sonnett said just kind of stuck with me yesterday and then us talking about how Sam would react, and I just really fucking miss you,” Y/N ran a hand through her hair frustrated.
Kristie got off the bed and grabbed Y/N by her biceps, squeezing them tight to get her attention, holding her firmly when she tried to pull away. When Y/N wouldn’t stop trying to pull away, Kristie wrapped moved to pull her into a tense hug.
“Listen to me Y/N,” Kristie started assertively, “Sonnett thinks she’s funny, there is no way you are not good enough for me. We are both fucking amazing people and are fucking amazing together.”
Y/N relaxed slightly in Kristie’s arms, Kristie pulled away, keeping her hands on Y/N’s arms.
“What if we just keep being us? Not tell anyone, no big speech or anything, but just us being us. You can hold my hand when you want, sit next to me at meals, I’ll make you my emergency contact. We can make out in front of Sam and see if she thinks we are just friends.”
Kristie smiled when that earned her a small giggle.
“I’m sorry for freaking out like this,” Y/N mumbled shyly, pulling herself back into Kristie’s arm, nestling her nose into her neck.
Kristie rubbed her hand up and down Y/N’s back, “you don’t have to apologize gorgeous, just tell me what’s going on in you head so I can help.”
“I’m just worried this means more to me than it does to you.”
Kristie’s hand stopped moving and tried to extract Y/N from her arms, only for Y/N to hold on tighter.
“I am so fucking in love with you Y/N,” Kristie said firmly.
This got Y/N to pull away, eyes wide.
“This means just as much to me as it does to you. You mean everything to me,” Kristie moved both her hands to Y/N’s head, holding it in place to make eye contact. “I love you.”
“I love you too,” Y/N whispered softly.
Sex on fire Part three
Krashlyn x Reader
Warning: SMUT. It’s kinda soft nothing super kinky and there’s more than just smut. Gets saucy at the end but the real heated stuff is continued in part four. Also had to sneak in the Emily and Lindsey ship.
Reader’s POV
It had been about a week since I started rooming with Ashlyn and Ali. A few minutes ago I had been asleep but the other two had other plans. I was woken up to both of the women kissing me on either side of my neck. After my eyes fluttered open I heard a raspy voice on my left side.
“Good morning, Princess.” The voice which I had recognized as Ashlyn’s voice said. I had already become quite flustered because of the hands on my body and the pet name that was reserved for sex. Before I could reply I felt a hand at the apex on my thigh. I let out a soft gasp. I look over to see that the hand belonged to Ali who was smiling at me.
“Morning, Baby.” She said.
“Well this is certainly a nice way to wake up.” I say quietly.
“You’re so pretty.” Ashlyn whispered while rubbing her thumb over my cheek. I felt my cheeks heating up at the compliment. Ashlyn gave me a quick kiss on the cheek before disappearing under the blanket only stopping to leave quick kisses and marks down my body. When she got to my thighs she took her time, slowly leaving bites and kisses and avoiding the one place where I actually needed attention.
“Ash. Don’t tease. Please.” I said to her.
“Come on Ash. She deserves it.” Ali spoke in my favor. I then felt Ashlyn’s hands tighten on my thighs and her tongue started to get to work. I let out a loud moan at the contact.
Ali’s hand found it way to my face turning my head so she could place a rough kiss on my lips she pushed her tongue into my mouth and explored my mouth, capturing the whines that were coming out of my throat. Her mouth then travelled to my neck, finding a sensitive spot, biting then moving her tongue over it.
Ashlyn started to thrust two fingers into me while her tongue was viciously swirled my clit. Both her tongue and fingers were following a quick pace showing no mercy.
“Ah. Fuck.” I exclaimed, “Oh god.”
I felt myself getting closer and closer to my release but what pushed me over the edge was Ali’s voice in my ear.
“Are you gonna cum for us Baby?” Her voice was low with a hint of sweetness. And her eyes were staring into my own with an intensity I’d never seen before, “Come on. Let go. Cum for us.”
I reached down and placed my hand into Ashlyn’s hair, tangling my fingers in it and pulling slightly at the pleasure she was causing in my body which the blonde moaned at, sending a vibration to my clit.
“Fuck. I’m gonna cum.” I say.
“Cum for me Princess.” Ashlyn said in her usual dominating voice.
Pleasure soared through my body causing me to shake. Ali’s hand found mine and held it tightly throughout my orgasm. When I finally got over the aftershocks Ashlyn had resurfaced leaning up to kiss both me and Ali. The kiss was passionate and intense which sums up the entire experience with the women.
“You think you can handle one more?” Ali asked gently. I was exhausted but nodded anyways. Ali went under the blanket slightly to leave hickeys on my chest and stomach before coming back up. Her fingers slowly made their way down to my center stopping for a few seconds before rubbing my clit at an agonizingly slow pace. I let a whimper out at her movements.
Ashlyn was sitting next to us observing which could be argued to be one of her favorite parts the experience.
“Ali. Please. Go faster.” I say at barely a whisper.
“What was that?” Ali said in a teasing voice.
“Aliiiii...” I whined.
With this Ali quicken her pace, going from 0-100 in a matter of a second. I almost screamed at the overstimulating feeling but before I could Ashlyn’s mouth found mine to swallow the noise. Within minutes I was reaching my peak again. Ali sensed this and her fingers entered me and moved roughly at a fast pace.
“Cum for me.” She growled in my ear. I of course followed her directions and my orgasm racked through my body. After my body stopped shaking Ali reached her hand up and put her fingers to lips, hinting at the fact that she wanted me to take them into my mouth which I obeyed and cleaned them off without hesitation. Ali then grabbed my jaw, turning me to her and kissing me roughly. We sat in silence for a few more moments, the only sound was heavy breathing.
“I feel like I should pay you back for that.” I say indicating that I wanted to return the favor.
“Don’t worry about it right now. Just rest. You can get us back later.” Ashlyn said gently. “We have a little longer until training so just rest, okay?”
We went back to a comfortable silence. I was laying on Ali’s chest while Ashlyn was holding me from behind with her head on my shoulder. I couldn’t help but to start overthinking once again. We had never put a label on whatever this was and to be quite honest I found myself falling in love with both of the women but I didn’t know how to bring the subject up. Somehow even after the past week filled with affection the thoughts of self doubt filled my mind. The couple had been together for almost 9 years before I entered the situation. It would make sense for them to not feel the same amount of love towards me.
“I can hear your thoughts. What’s going on in that pretty head of yours?” Ali broke the silence.
“Hm?” I face her. “Oh, um nothing. I’m all good.”
“We know you better than to believe that.” Ashlyn said.
I was about to reply when a loud knock on the door interrupted our conversation.
“Guys, Bus leaves in 20 so hurry up.” Kelley’s voice yelled.
“We aren’t finished with this conversation.” Ali said before getting up. We got dressed and headed to the bus waiting outside. I sat in my seat beside Sonnett, ignoring the smug look on her face.
“Sooooo. How’s the throuple going?” She asked with raised eyebrows.
“1. It’s not really a throuple. It’s not official and 2. If you’re asking how the sex is, it’s great.”
“Oh come on. You need to just say fuck it and talk to them about being in a relationship already. Silence will get you nowhere.”
“Sonny, I am aware but my crippling fear of rejection is in the way.”
She only rolled her eyes at that signaling the end of that topic. So I decided to butt in on her relationship.
“What about you and Lindsey, huh?”
“What do you mean?”
“Oh please I see the way you guys look at each other.”
“What? No. We’re just friends.”
She was very obviously flustered with the conversation to which I smirked.
“Yeah right.”
“I hate you.”
“Love you too Sonny.”
The rest of the bus ride was silent besides the music coming through my headphones. Every now and then I felt the stares of my lovers on me. I couldn’t help but stare back. Their eyes had a hint of worry behind them. The air was hot on the field so our uniform consisted of tank tops and shorts both Ali and Ashlyn’s muscular bodies were on display. Ashlyn’s tattoos stood out particularly and I couldn’t help the way my eyes were fixated on the woman. She had noticed this and smirked at me before reaching her arm behind her head which flexed the muscles even more. I looked away to avoid the embarrassment of being caught in the act of staring.
“Like what you see?” Kelley had came up behind me, making me jump at her sudden voice in my ear.
“Jesus Kelley. You scared the shit out of me.”
“Sorry but you’re practically drooling right now.”
“What? No I’m not.”
Kelley gave me a look.
“Yeah right.”
Thankfully Jill saved me from the conversation by starting practice. We started a scrimmage and me and Ali were on different teams. She had coincidentally been the one defending me but one of her tackles was a little rough and she ended up landing on top of me which caused me to blush and I hoped that the others assumed it was the sun and not the woman on top of me.
“Well hello there.” She said with a smile before standing and reaching out her hand to help me. “Sorry about that. Although, I don’t think you mind me on top of you, huh?” She whispered the last part so only I could hear her and winked at me. She walked away back to her position.
The scrimmage ended with Ali’s team winning 2-1. We had a 20 minute break before having to start different drills. I was sitting on the bench with my eyes closed and head lent back when I felt a presence beside me.
“So, are you gonna tell me what’s wrong now or?” The voice had belonged to Ashlyn.
“Ash. Cant this wait?” I tried my best to give her puppy dog eyes to let me out of it and it worked.
“Only because you’re cute but don’t think we aren’t talking about it later.” She got up and walked away to find her fiancée.
The rest of training went by quickly as did the ride to the hotel. Which was unfortunate since I was faced with the two women as soon as I got to my room.
“Hey Baby.” Ali said sweetly.
“Hi.” I reply timidly.
They give me a look. Asking me to tell them what’s on my mind.
“Look, I’ll tell you what’s going on as long as you don’t judge me.”
“We’d never.” Ashlyn spoke up. I moved to sit in between them on the edge of the bed.
“Okay so, I just feel like because you’ve been together for so long that I’m somehow intruding. I don’t know.”
“You’re not intruding. If anything our relationship had gotten even better because of you.” Ashlyn said softly. “But that’s not all right?” I sigh before continuing to speak.
“I think I’m in love with the both of you but we aren’t even together and haven’t been doing this long and I’m just overthinking every little thing. It’s kind of terrifying.” I ramble on.
“Woah, calm down.” Ali places a calming hand on my leg. “I’m sorry for the confusion but we both love you too. You have nothing to worry about. And we’d love for you to join out relationship. If you want that, that is.”
“I do want it but I’m kinda scared.”
“There’s nothing to be scared of.”
“Okay. I’m in.” I smile at the both of them which they returned. It was silent for a few moments before an idea appeared in my mind.
“You know how I said I would pay you back for the morning?” I looked Ashlyn in the eye.
“Mhm.” She said.
“Well I have an idea.” I smirked at her before whispering something in her ear. She immediately smiled and got up to find a few objects. Ali looked at me confused.
“What’s going on?” She asked.
“Don’t worry about it. You’re gonna love it.” I say before placing a quick kiss on her lips and taking off articles of clothing from her body. Although Ali tried to be dominant, her submissive side was starting the peak out. Her eyes were shining. I ran my finger over her clothed center. Her eyes shined with need which was a nice switch from the usual dominance I faced. I laid her back onto the mattress. Ashlyn had came back with a pair of handcuffs and a strap on. Ali’s eyes widened at the sight. I took the handcuffs and placed them on Ali’s wrists before attaching them to the headboard. Ashlyn had began putting the strap on around her waist.
“Are you ready?”.
Guess We Lied
Lindsey Horan x Reader
Word Count: 1.8k
[WOSO Masterlist]
“Your tattoo is fading.”
The words are mumbled quietly in the early hours of the morning. While the skies are still dark, the girl still in your bed, and your head not yet caught up to your heart.
You don’t turn to face her. It’s only in moments like this you can pretend the two of you are still okay. That you are still Lindsey’s and she is still yours.
But you aren’t, not anymore.
“I miss you.”
The words cut deeply into the dead air.
You’re unable to stop your sharp intake of breath. You shut your eyes tight.
---
The worst part of breaking up with a friend is just that. Not only do you lose a lover, you lose a friend as well.
Six years of friendship, three years of companionship, gone, just like that.
Not lovers, not friends, not enemies. After the break up, the two of you simply became nothing.
“We just aren’t working anymore.”
All it takes is five words to end it all.
“I think what we need is a bit of space from each other.”
The last thing you want is space. But you love her. So you don’t put up a fight when she makes up her mind.
“It’ll bring us closer in the end. Promise.”
When Lindsey says she’s leaving, you didn’t think she meant the country.
The wound’s still fresh when you watch the love of your life walk through the airport doors.
When you get traded to Seattle a couple weeks later, you try not to let your bitterness show.
First it’s Lindsey not thinking you are enough.
Now it’s the Thorns.
.
It’s clear your friends don’t know what to do.
You don’t see much of Mal. She was always more Lindsey’s friend than yours.
Rose tries to fill the gaps in your life with coffee dates and dog visits. You don’t say anything when you hear her making the same plans with Lindsey.
Sam awkwardly hovers, always stumbling over her words as she tries to avoid the clear subject that is your failed relationship. It’s clear she doesn’t know what to do as much as you know what to do yourself.
Sonnett is your saving grace. She never once acts differently. Jokes here and there, giant ribbings that only increase when you don’t react the way she wants. She doesn’t pay heed to any of the warnings the other girls send her way. She was always the closest with Lindsey, but ultimately it’s your determination to keep in contact when she herself was traded away that she holds onto.
.
“What’s it like playing for the dark side?” Sophia jokes when she sees you at the next camp. You can almost feel the way everyone cringes when you give your weakest smile and shrug.
You try not to take it to heart when you notice the way Lindsey avoids you all camp. Lindsey seems further away here than she is when she’s in France. Not for the first time since you broke up, you question if you’ll truly ever be over the fallout of your relationship.
When camp ends, you return to an empty house and emptier heart.
.
A year passes. You’ve acclimated to the Washington temperate. You haven’t acclimated to the spot left by Lindsey’s absence.
You do everything you can think of. You adopt a puppy at the insistence of Rose. Taking care of the tiny German Shepherd helps a little to take your mind off things. It only works until the second day, when you think of how much Lindsey would’ve loved to give Ferguson a little brother.
The puppy gives you a lick when he picks up on the sadness clouding your mood.
.
It takes everything to keep your face neutral when you first hear about Ty.
You’re at camp, sitting at the table adjacent to Lindsey. That’s another thing that changed when the two of you broke up. You found a new seat beside a mix of older vets and some newer players and have stuck there ever since.
It’s almost impossible to miss Rose’s shriek of “you have a boyfriend?!” and Lindsey’s quiet mumble of affirmation.
Megan sends a look your way, but you make sure to keep your eyes trained on the plate in front of you. Sofia’s hand gives your knee a sympathetic squeeze, but you barely feel it. Your next bite tastes bland, swallowing is an even harder task to do.
It’s hard to ignore all the stares when you quietly make your exit a couple minutes later, appetite fully gone.
.
A couple years pass.
The space only gets bigger.
By now you’ve already come to the conclusion that Lindsey lied when she said the two of you would get closer someday.
.
You’ve also come to the conclusion that you’re never going to get over her.
.
You’re in Portland again when everything changes.
The highly anticipated Cascadia Rivalry was back in town and Lindsey was finally back and playing in Portland. Her loan had been extended another year, with an injury upon her return that had her out for the rest of the NWSL season. So, for the first since you broke up, the two of you are playing in the same league again.
The stadium is loud when the players march through the tunnel. You’ve been in the blue jersey for a while now, but you’re still not used to the feel of being a visitor in Portland.
The game is high paced from the start, but it isn’t until the second half that things come to a head. Seattle scores first, but it’s quickly followed by a Thorns goal. The next thing you know, the ball is at your feet.
The crowd is deafening as you streak down the field.
One second you’ve got the ball at your feet, sprinting towards goal.
The next second you’re curled up, hand clutching your ankle as you press your face to the grass.
“Oh my god, I’m so sorry, I thought I had all ball.”
It’s the light hand pressed against your back that has you turning over. Your eyes meet stormy ones before you’re pushing her hand away. Lindsey stays crouched beside you, unsure what to do due to your reaction.
Her hand cautiously hovers near your shoulder, but it isn’t until you’re nearly shoving her away that Sinc pulls her away.
“Where does it hurt, kid?” Megan’s concerned face blocks Lindsey’s crestfallen one.
My heart, you want to answer. Instead, you grit out “my ankle,” through clenched teeth.
When the trainer comes out to evaluate your ankle, it takes everything in you not to unleash your entire swear vocabulary onto the field when she gently grips your foot.
Lindsey doesn’t fight the yellow card.
You’re still in too much pain to care about the looks she keeps sending your way.
You limp off the field, head hung low.
A mild sprain is the official diagnosis. Out for two, possibly three weeks.
You spend the rest of the game stewing in anger.
The anger only grows when the rest of your team trudges into the locker room, stormy expressions on their faces.
You don’t have to ask to know you lost.
Later, when you spot the head of blonde hair chilling by the locker room entrance, you spit out the first words on your mind.
“I hate you.”
Even just saying those three words made you sick. You don’t hate her, not really.
Lindsey looks taken aback. You know she thinks you’re talking about her tackle from earlier.
Your ankle hurt, but it didn’t hold a light to the pain in your heart.
You push on, not letting her have enough time to come up with anything to say. “I hate-- I hate the way you make me feel. The way my skin crawls whenever I think about you. The way I don’t know if I want to scream or cry whenever I see your face.”
Shock is the first expression that flashes across her face. Lindsey opens her mouth, but nothing comes out.
“You said the space would make us closer.”
Your finger digs accusingly against Lindsey’s chest. She doesn’t push you away.
“You’re a lot of things, but I didn’t take you as a liar.”
There are tears falling down your face now, but you don’t care enough to wipe them away. Lindsey’s already seen you at your worst. What’s a couple more tears?
“I’m not a liar.” Her words come out choked.
You scoff, running a shaky hand through your hair. “You’re a liar,” you repeat.
“I’m not.” Something flashes in her eyes, but you’re too caught up in your own emotions to decipher it.
“Liar,” you spit out. “It only took you, what? A year and a half to find someone else? You’re so caught up in your new lover that you can’t even--”
Lindsey lunges towards you and your words die in your throat.
Her lips still taste as you remember. She still feels the same.
The kiss is in no way gentle. Her lips press bruisingly against yours. Her fingers dig firmly against your jaw. Your hands helplessly clutch at the sides of her sweater as you get swept up in all that is Lindsey.
When you finally break apart, it’s to pull in lungfuls of air. Lindsey doesn’t pull away. All she does is scan your eyes as you stay inches apart.
“Tell me you don’t need me.”
The words are whispered harshly against her lips.
“Tell  me you’re never thinking of me.”
Your voice cracks.
Lindsey’s hands only tighten.
“Tell me whatever it takes for me to finally let you go.”
---
“Don’t.” It comes choked out as you shut your eyes.
After the adrenaline has faded, all you feel is the shame. The shame of how weak you are. Of how you haven’t been able to move on.
You’re pretty sure there’s something wrong when it’s been years and you still can’t move on from a person.
“I’m not a liar.”
Her hand drifts across the blankets. You have to fight the urge to pull back when it brushes yours.
“I broke up with him a while back.”
Your breath dies in your throat. You can feel the burn of her gaze against the side of your face.
“He was a great man.”
Her hand bumps purposefully against yours again.
You don’t fight it when she hooks a finger around one of yours.
“But he’s no you.”
When you open your eyes, it’s to soft eyes peering across the bed at you.
“Your tattoo is fading,” she repeats, finger moving down to trail against your wrist before moving it back towards your hand.
Her hand lingers, not touching, but not quite pulling away.
No, the two of you aren’t okay.
You hesitantly close the distance, letting your fingers lock with hers.
But with Lindsey’s hand clasped in yours, you know that you will be someday.
Because with Lindsey’s hand clasped against yours, you finally feel like you could breathe again.
You Win My Love - A Lindsey Horan Imagine
Tumblr media
A/N: The second installment in my Shania Twain series! Based off “You Win My Love”
Lindsey, Sonnett, Rose, Mal, and Sam stepped out of the van and looked around.
 “Who’s supposed to be meeting us here?” Sam asked.
 “One of the execs, I think. I’ve never met him, so I don’t know what he looks like,” Mal answered. Just then a tall man in a suit appeared in front of them.
 “Hello, ladies! We’re so glad you could make it,” He shook each of their hands, “I’m Jack Bolton, I trust you’re all aware of what is going to happen today?”
 “You’re giving us a tour and introducing us to some drivers and then we’re watching the race, all while the media crew films us so that they can post a video that’s going to bring everyone publicity,” Lindsey said.
 “Yes, exactly,” Jack said, “It’s all rather exploitative, I know, but sponsors, CEOs, you know the deal. They say jump and I say yes sir.” Lindsey grinned a little. She was already enjoying herself.
 Jack led them through the clubhouse and showed them the common areas and the specific sections for each crew. He led them outside to the racetrack, where some drivers were practicing for the upcoming race.
 “This is where the pit crew stays during the race when they’re not needed at the pit stops,” Jack gestured to an area a little ways back from the track, “During a race, they’re monitoring their driver and making sure there’s no problems with their cars or their tires, and when a driver enters the pit, they’re responsible for changing the tires, filling up gas, fixing any engine problems, and making sure the driver is okay and good to continue.”
 “You’re boring them, Jack,” A voice came from behind them. Jack turned around and grinned.
 “Do you want to take over, Y/N?” Jack asked. Y/N laughed and shook her head.
 “Nah, gotta get ready for tonight.”
 “Ladies, this is Y/N Y/L/N, one of our best racers.”
 “One of?” Y/N asked, “What is this? Jack, I’m the best racer, or do you need to see all my trophies again?” Jack laughed and shook his head before he introduced the group.
 “Ah, soccer players,” Y/N said, “Pleased to meet you all.”
 “You’re the best?” Rose asked.
 “Yeah, for sure. Especially tonight. This race is full of rookies and oldsters, I’m pretty much guaranteed a win.”
 “So why are you bothering to race? Why aren’t you at the… Indy 500?” Lindsey asked. Y/N laughed.
 “Because that’s not for a couple weeks,” Y/N said, “I’m just here because Jack asked me to, I don’t normally come to these races, but apparently big racers bring more viewers and… honestly I’m just looking for some practice before I take on the real competition.”
 “We’ll see about the competition,” Lindsey said. Y/N laughed before she said goodbye and left the group with Jack.
 “Now, if you’ll come this way, ladies…”
 ***
 “Looks like I won after all.”
 Lindsey turned around and saw Y/N heading toward her, trophy in her hand. Lindsey crossed her arms.
 “You got lucky,” Lindsey said, “That other guy was totally gonna win if he didn’t hit the wall in the last lap.” Y/N laughed.
 “While that may be true, I did still win,” Y/N held the trophy out, “Wanna hold it? Maybe get a picture for your Instagram or something?” Lindsey agreed, trading her phone for the trophy and letting Y/N take a few pictures.
 “You live in Portland, right?” Y/N asked after she handed Lindsey’s phone back. “You play for the Thorns, I mean.”
 “Yeah, I live there during the season, but I live in Denver during the offseason. If I have one.”
 Y/N laughed. “I feel that. I live in Portland too. I’m supposed to live in Portland, but I travel so much it feels like it’s just another stop on the road.”
 “It’s hard to settle down in a city when you’re constantly being taken somewhere else,” Lindsey said.
 “I know, right? Man, one thing I’m looking forward to when I retire is just staying in one place for longer than two weeks.”
 Y/N and Lindsey kept talking, about Portland, about traveling, about their careers, families, everything. Lindsey wasn’t expecting to like the seemingly cocky racer, but Y/N, up close, away from the cameras and the fans, was genuine and down to earth and clammed up when Lindsey brought up her prolific career. Lindsey thought she might actually… like Y/N, maybe.
 “Yo, Linessi!” Sonnett yelled, “We gotta go! Quit flirting!” Lindsey blushed furiously.
 “I’m so sorry about her, she’s an idiot,” Lindsey said.
 “No worries, we all have friends like that,” Y/N said, “It was nice to meet you Lindsey,” Y/N touched Lindsey’s arm lightly, sending tingles up Lindsey’s arm, “I hope I get to see you again.”
 “Let me know the next time you’re in Portland,” Lindsey said.
 “Will do.”
 ***
 Lindsey posted the photo as soon as she got back to the hotel. She didn’t tag Y/N, but she did tag Jack and the racetrack. A few minutes later, Lindsey heard her phone ding. She looked at it and saw that Y/N DM’ed her on Instagram.
 yourusername: What? No tag? You do know who’s trophy you’re holding
 Lindsey laughed before she replied.
 lindseyhoran10: didn’t want it to go to your head
also its been what? 5 minutes? eager to talk to me again or something
 yourusername: Something like that
what are you doing next week? I’m in Portland for a couple of days
 lindseyhoran10: I might be free
have to check my schedule
 yourusername: Great! It’s a date
 ***
 Next week, Lindsey was sitting in her apartment, waiting for Y/N to come pick her up. She didn’t know what to expect. Y/N told her to dress casual, but other than that, Y/N hadn’t told her anything about what they were doing. So, Lindsey was wearing jeans and a tank top, with a jacket on top. Y/N had said it was a date, but Lindsey wasn’t sure if she was joking or not. She didn’t have time to overthink before there was a knock at her door. She quickly opened it to reveal Y/N, wearing jeans and a leather jacket.
 “Hey there,” Y/N said, “You ready?” Lindsey nodded, following Y/N outside and to her car. Lindsey snorted when she saw what Y/N was driving.
 “What?” Y/N asked.
 “You’re a big fancy race car driver and you’re driving a pickup truck.”
 “Well, yeah. Sorry we don’t all drive BMWs like you soccer players,” Y/N said, “If you don’t like it, I can switch to another car. I’ve got a Ferrari sitting in my garage collecting dust.”
 “You have a Ferrari and you’re driving this piece of junk?”
 “It’s not a piece of junk! It has character!” Y/N insisted, “Look, I put on new hubcaps, a new bumper, I really spiced up the engine and the stereo in this baby is like nothing you’ll find in those BMWs, trust me,” Y/N looked up at Lindsey who was still looking unimpressed. “Fine, I’ll go get the Ferrari. But if I’m driving her, I’m gonna show you some tricks,” Y/N grinned.
 Lindsey didn’t know what Y/N meant by “tricks”, but she wasn’t expecting Y/N to turn into an empty, gated, dark parking lot after they switched to one of Y/N’s fancier cars. Y/N was quick to unlock the gate and drive them in. Lindsey looked around suspiciously, not sure what she had gotten herself into.
 “Okay, hold tight, I’ll be right back,” With a flash, Y/N was out of the car and running across to a small shed. Soon, the parking lot was flooded with light, Y/N gave Lindsey a thumbs up and then ran back.
 “I was thinking you brought me here to kill me,” Lindsey said when Y/N was back in the car.
 “Nah, just wanna show off for you,” Y/N said, “It’s illegal to do tricks on public roads, so that’s why we had to come here.”
 “Isn’t this trespassing?”
 “It’s not trespassing when you own it,” Y/N grinned, “Now hold tight.”
 Lindsey didn’t have a chance to ask what Y/N meant, before Y/N was speeding off in the parking lot, doing donuts and other high-speed maneuvers. Lindsey was gripping the handle above her door as tight as she could, but Y/N was laughing, seamlessly transitioning from one trick to the next and soon, Lindsey’s grip relaxed and she started laughing too. Finally, Y/N slowed to a stop.
 “How was that? Did you have fun?” Y/N eyes shone as she looked at Lindsey.
 “Maybe we should’ve just driven the truck,” Lindsey said.
 “Oh, come on, admit it, that was fun!”
 Lindsey rolled her eyes. “Okay, fine. It was fun, once I realized we weren’t gonna die.”
 “Then come on, hop out and I’ll teach you some,” Y/N said.
 “What? No, Y/N, I–” Lindsey tried to protest was Y/N was already out of the car and holding the keys for Lindsey to take. “Look, I really don’t think I should do this, I’m really not that good of a driver,” Lindsey said as she got behind the wheel.
 “It’ll be fine, I promise. I’ll tell you what to do, okay?” Y/N said, “Nothing bad is gonna happen, trust me, I’m a professional. We’ll start off on the easy ones, just follow my instructions.”
 Lindsey, as she expected, was not a very good driver. She was fine driving like a normal person on city streets, but this was something else. For some reason, even the simple instructions Y/N was giving felt like the most complicated thing in the world. Lindsey wanted to give up when Y/N convinced her to give it one more try. Lindsey felt a surge of adrenaline as she made (almost) one full donut. She stopped and looked at Y/N, who was grinning as much as she was.
 “I did it!”
 “You did it!” Y/N high-fived Lindsey. “You wanna try any more?” Suddenly, the keys were out of the ignition and thrown on Y/N’s lap and Lindsey was at the passenger side door waiting for Y/N to get back in the drivers seat. Y/N laughed as she moved over.
 “Okay, that’s a no.”
 ***
 “Linds, why are you dragging us into the middle of redneck country? I don’t wanna get hit on by some sexist jerk,” Rose complained as she followed Lindsey through the entrance.
 “It’s not that bad, Rose,” Lindsey said, “NASCAR is cool, it’s not just rednecks anymore.” Rose grimaced as a drunk man wearing an American flag tank top ran by, screaming.
 “Right, not just rednecks,” Rose muttered.
 “Oh, come on Linds, we all know you’re here for that hot racer chick you’ve been flirting with,” Sonnett said.
 “It’s not just for her,” Lindsey said defensively, “And we’re not flirting.”
 “Don’t lie to us Linds, we know you and that hottie–”
 “Look! Our seats are this way!” Lindsey said loudly as she pushes through the crowd.
 “Is this supposed to be interesting?” Rose whispered to Sonnett as they watched the cars circle the track.
 “I don’t know,” Sonnett whispered back, “I don’t even know which one Y/N is.”
 “Whichever one Lindsey’s staring at,” Rose mumbled, watching as Lindsey leaned closer to the edge as one car drove by, “That one.”
 “Why couldn’t she have just invited her to a game rather than drag us down here?”
 “I can hear you two,” Lindsey said.
 “So why did you bring us here?”
 “I’m not sitting in the middle of redneck country by myself.”
 “I told you it was redneck country!” Rose said, “I told you!”
 “Whatever Rose, I– Look! She’s about to win! Go! Yes!” Lindsey jumped to her feet as Y/N’s car crossed the finish line before the others.
 “Great, she won, can we go now?” Rose asked.
 “We have to go meet up with her and say congrats, come on,” Lindsey grabbed Sonnett’s arm and pulled her out of her seat, and Sonnett grabbed Rose’s arm so she would be pulled along too.
 Lindsey pulled the two through the crowds, pushing everyone out of her way. Sonnett and Rose stumbled behind her, apologizing to everyone Lindsey pushed over. Finally, Lindsey stopped in front of a security guard, and Sonnett and Rose doubled over behind her, trying to catch their breath. Lindsey flashed a VIP pass to the guard and Sonnett and Rose were being pulled again.
 “Hey!” Y/N said as the three came into her sights.
 “Hey,” Lindsey said, blushing.
 “Congrats on the win,” Sonnett said.
 “Thanks!” Y/N said, “I’m glad you guys could make it.”
 “Oh yeah, real glad,” Rose muttered.
 “Hey,” Y/N turned to Lindsey, “I won.”
 “You did.”
 “Does that mean I can get whatever I want?” Y/N raised her eyebrows.
 “That depends on what it is,” Lindsey said.
 “I think I should, I won so I should get a reward,” Y/N said, “You wanna hear what I want?” Lindsey nodded. “I want you to be my girlfriend.” Lindsey grinned.
 “I guess it’s only fair, I mean you did win, so I guess I can be your girlfriend,” Lindsey said.
 “You seriously dragged us all the way here in the heat and the humidity and… Southerners, just to pick up a girl? You owe me big time Lindsey Horan! You owe me!”
My Rock [Christen Press x Reader]
Tumblr media
requested by anon: Could you maybe write one where R is dating christen. R is always finding pretty rocks on the sidewalk and stuff and giving them to christen. The team always teases her but one day during a match the reader “finds” a rock and proposes to Christen in front of the sidelines?
A/N: this request was so freaking cute. i absolutely loved it!
“Chris!” You chase after your girlfriend, holding a small rock you’d found on the sidewalk. “Look at this one! It reminds me of your eyes.” Beaming, you hand the speckled green rock over to your girlfriend.
“Thanks, babe.” Christen giggles, kissing your cheek.
“(Y/N), that’s like the fifth one you’ve found that ‘looks like Christen’s eyes’ and we’re not even halfway back to the hotel.” Tobin jokes.
“You should see her whenever she’s in Utah. It takes us forever to get places because (Y/N) always finds cool rocks everywhere.” Kelley quips, smirking at your blushing cheeks.
“How many rocks has (Y/N) given you, Chris?” Alex teases, as you hide your face in the crook of your girlfriend’s neck.
“I dunno. I honestly lost track after like a hundred or so.” Christen chuckles at your embarrassment.
“I can’t help it. I find a pretty rock, and I give it to a pretty lady.” You confess. “Plus, they’re good little pieces of our relationship and a reminder for Chris that I’m always with her even when I’m not.”
Your teammates internally soften at that, not fully understanding your obsession with collecting rocks until now.
“So, do you actually keep all the rocks?” Megan asks your girlfriend, genuinely curious.
Christen nods. “A lot of them are used as decoration around our apartment, some of them I take with me when I travel, and the rest are just in a box under my bed.”
You can’t help but swoon, hearing that your girlfriend has kept every single rock you’d given her. You had seen the special ones that Christen had put in your bedroom or in the kitchen, but you hadn’t known she’d still had all of them.
—————
The next day, after practice, the USWNT piled onto the bus. After a couple of minutes, there was still no sign of a single midfielder.
“Where the heck is (Y/N/N)? I’m trying to get some food!” Sonnett yells from the back of the bus.
“Press! Where’s your girlfriend?” Kelley pops up from her seat. Before Christen could answer, you stumble up the steps.
“Sorry! I got a little caught up.” You squeak, both of your hands full of stones. Hurrying into your seat, you spill the rocks onto your lap, wanting to show your girlfriend what you’d found for her.
“Got enough rocks there, (Y/N/N)?” Ash calls out.
“Seriously, dude, what’s the occasion?” Tobin laughs.
You roll your eyes, ignoring your teammates teasing, as you explain to the brunette forward why you chose each one. Throughout the ride back to the hotel, the team pokes fun at you, before Christen waves them off, verbally hushing the bus.
“This one reminded me of Morena and Khaleesi. This one looks like that tree we saw on our hike last month. Oh! And this one is one of my favorites: it’s the same color as your mom’s eyes. And this one is just pretty…” You trailed off, practically shaking with excitement.
Christen beamed, her eyes twinkling. She always loved it when you gave her a new rock, especially when you had a story or explanation for them.
—————
Later that night, as you’re getting ready for bed, you notice a couple of the rocks and pebbles you’d given Christen on the dresser.
“Babe?”
Christen walks out of the bathroom, still drying her hair. “Yeah?”
“You said earlier that you travel with some of the rocks that I’ve given you. Can I ask which ones?” You gesture over to the dresser.
“Sure.” She softly smiles, bringing them over to the bed. “Whenever I travel for national team camps or for away games, I always bring these five with me: the one from our first date, this one from our first kiss, when we first said ‘I love you,’ and the ones from our first and second anniversary.”
You give her a watery smile, your heart swelling full of love for the woman in front of you.
“I love you so much.” You whisper, as you pull into a soft kiss.
“I love you, too.” Christen smiles, kissing your nose. “C’mon, babe. Let’s go to sleep.” She snuggles closer to your side and pulls the blankets over the two of you, as you drift into a deep sleep.
—————
That weekend, the team was preparing for their CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying final match against Canada on Sunday. Everyone was feeling pretty good about it, seeing as you’d been playing incredibly, easily defeating your opponents. You, yourself, felt confident about your game throughout this tournament, scoring three goals and getting five assists in only four games. Despite the high spirits, the team was still focused and serious, as they made their way into the locker room, considering it was a game versus Canada, their international rival.
“Here you go.” You tap Christen’s shoulder, holding out a small round pebble you’d found outside the stadium.
“What’s this one for?” Your girlfriend smiles, turning to face you.
“Good luck. Not that you’ll need it” You peck her lips, giving her a wink before heading to your locker.
“Thanks, babe.” She calls after you, chuckling under her breath. As she puts your little gift away in her bag, Christen can hear Kelley teasing you.
“Hey! Where’s my good luck rock?”
“Score a couple goals and then maybe you’ll get one.” You taunt the defender, as you make your way out into the tunnel, Kelly chasing after you.
—————
As the ref blows the halftime whistle, you quickly grab something from your bag, before going to meet your girlfriend at the sideline.
“Hey!” You grab Christen’s attention, stopping her from heading back to the locker room.
“What?” She gives you a puzzled look. By now, the rest of the team also stopped to watch what you had up your sleeve.
Bending down onto one knee, you look up at the love of your life. “I found you another rock.” With that, you pull out a black box from your pocket, opening it to reveal a beautiful diamond ring.
Christen gasps, bringing her hands to cover her mouth, tears beginning to pool in her eyes.
“Christen Annemarie Press,” You start. “The past two years that we’ve spent together have been an absolute gift. You constantly amaze and inspire me with your beauty and your soul. You have been my best friend through the good and the bad, and I can honestly say you’ve made me a better person.”
You pause to take a deep breath, taking Christen’s left hand in yours.
“Thank you for loving me for who I am, and thank you for believing in me when no one else would. You truly have been my rock.” At that, you hear a few chuckles coming from your teammates and Christen herself. “You have shown me how to love with passion, purity, and unconditional acceptance. I know that forever is nowhere near enough time to spend loving you, but I couldn’t imagine spending the rest of my life with anyone else. So, Chris, will you marry me?”
“Yes! Of course!” Christen bursts, unable to contain her happiness, tears streaming down her face. Grinning, you stand up to pull your fiancée into a searing kiss, slipping the ring onto her finger.
Pulling apart, you rest your foreheads against each other. “I love you.” She whispers.
“I love you, too. I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with you.” You kiss her again.
Your intimate moment is soon interrupted by your teammates, who’ve now gathered around you, smushing you two into a huge group hug. After many congratulations, screams, and hugs, Vlatko signals that you do in fact have to head back to the locker room for the halftime talk. The team bounces down the tunnel, excitement from the proposal radiating off of everyone.
You and Christen trail behind the team, hoping to bask in your new engagement. Bringing your intertwined hands up to your lips, you place a kiss to the back of her hand.
“You’re amazing. I can’t wait to call you my wife.” Christen gushes.
“I can’t wait either. I love you so much.” You kiss her cheek, as the two of you enter the locker room. “But let’s go kick Canada’s ass.” You smirk, as you sit at your locker. Your fiancée huffs out a laugh, going to her own seat across the room from you.
Before heading back out onto the field, Christen puts her ring away, adding her new favorite rock to the collection she’d gathered over the years of your relationship with many more to come in the future.
No Going Back | Emily Sonnett
Tumblr media
first imagine done, lmao hope u guys enjoy!
warnings: a little steamy but nothing nsfw, swearing.
word count: 2,318
You wouldn’t consider you and the blonde in front of you friends. Because you weren’t. But at this point - the late nights talking, the late night walks, the late night occasional sleepovers had to be called something.
In all honesty you couldn’t stand each other. You’d both find something about each other to be annoyed by but it would never get in the way of what you guys had.
“Hey” Emily said for what felt like the fifth time.
Right - she was your roommate. That’s what you guys are. That’s the label you can put on it: Camp roomies.
The girl's attempts at snapping you out of your thoughts finally worked, “what?” you snap back.
She laughs at your tone knowing you didn’t mean it, “what are you doing tonight?” she asks curiously.
You look at her as if she asked the stupidest question, “it’s camp. sleeping probably?”
Emily lets out a sarcastic chuckle, “boring lets do something” she says making an effort to wiggle her eyebrows
You slip back into thinking about how this was like a routine for you two. You’d both find a way to sneak away and do something together. Just the two of you. It may sound suspicious but you both thought it wasn’t.
Starting to get annoyed at nothing really, you lock your phone, “I’m going to Tobin’s room.”
                                        ⭒⭒⭒⭒⭒
“Heads!” You hear but not quick enough, courtesy of the ball that just hit your head.
“What the fuck?!” you let out already having been annoyed and exhausted from the strenuous training session the team had just endured.
“Sorry...” the culprit, Emily says sheepishly in your direction knowing the amount of shit she’ll get from you for this.
Your reputation as the team's asshole, as much as you hate to admit, did proceed you.
“Watch were you’re fucking going Emily” you say, tone laced with venom and not even bothering to look at her.
“More like the ball” a guilty Emily jokes trying to ease up your attitude.
You were about to snark something back but before you could
“Y/N! Take it easy” you look to find Christen Press who had just overheard your conversation. “She’s being annoying, no” you say, sticking your tongue out to show you’re not actually that mad.
“Come kick it with me” Emily offers hoping it equals an apology.
“So you can hit me again?”
“I- will you stop arguing everything I say?”
You give up and get up, snatching the ball from her hand using your other to untie the sweater around her waist for good measure. You try to ignore the fact she froze when your hand touched her as if she panicked but before you could put in more thought you run away with a devious smile on your face.
“So what’s up with you?” the blonde asks now that you’re away from the team.
You guys did this a lot. Never really talking while around the team. You’re both not sure why, part of you thinks it’s because you’re more comfortable with her than anyone else. You’d never admit that out loud though. Neither would she.
“Nothing” you huff our trying to move on.
She takes the hint and you guys continue kicking the ball back and forth for a while, talking about random things like the next friendly, the weather, the fact that Emily’s sister has a boyfriend.
It’s domestic.
“You still wanna do something?” you ask starting to open up to the idea of socialising.
You watch Emily pause, a smile plastering her face, “duh.”
You smile hesitantly trying to hide the bigger one that was trying to break through.
“Okay.”
                                                   ⭒⭒⭒⭒⭒
“Bar or restaurant?” your roommate sticks her head out from the bathroom.
You raise your eyebrows jokingly, “is this a date?”
She laughs, “I’m not paying for you.”
You’re half way through applying some makeup before a knock fills the room, replacing the “god awful music” as you call it for a brief moment. You can't ignore the dread that feels you knowing that there’s a chance that whoever is behind the door would tag along tonight.
Making your way to the door you prep yourself as you swing the door open, relief when you see it’s only Jill.
“Hey..?” you drag out thinking that you could be in trouble.
“Hi girls, I’m going around reminding everybody that we have an excursion tomorrow, and the bus leaves at 7 am.”
Emily chuckles, “you couldn’t have just emailed us that?”
Jill smiles, “I couldn’t figure it out.”
You join in the laughter and say your goodbyes, closing the door and sighing out a breath you didn’t realise you were holding.
“You good?” Emily asks, noticing your behaviour.
“Yeah.”
“And Emily?”
“Yeah?”
You smirk a little, “bar.. 100% bar.”
                                         ⭒⭒⭒⭒⭒
Making your way out of the hotel with ease, you and Emily stand outside waiting for an uber.
“I should have brought a fucking jacket” she says, rubbing her bare arms in attempt to get warm.
You raise an eyebrow, “I literally told you too.”
A few passerby’s overhead what you were saying and giggled at the two of you bicker over the weather.
Emily noticed it but you didn’t. Emily thought about how they probably think that you two were a couple. She pushed it down though.
Finally seeing the uber has arrived you both climb in, and she tells the driver where the two of you are going. You’re pretty sure it’s a dive bar called O’Malley’s but it didn’t bother you both since getting wasted wasn’t the plan.
Boy were you wrong.
4 shots, who knows how many beers and 3 games of pool later it’s pretty safe to say you two were in fact wasted. You had no idea how it happened, you weren’t much of a drinker. Maybe it was the atmosphere of the bar, how boring it was since it was you and Emily plus a few frequent flyers.
You’ve been sneakily touching each other all night. Whether it be hands, hips or legs you both feel empty without the presence of each other. You blame it on the alcohol, while she tells herself it’s nothing.
“I love this song!” Emily slurs in your ear, having no real reason to be that close other than the fact of the bar seats.
You giggle at her excitement, “and?” you ask knowing what’s about to come next.
She hops down from the stool and grabs your arm, “we’re gonna dance, obviously!”
You two spend probably about 10 minutes making fools out of yourselves dancing to classic late 90’s songs while continuing to fill your blood with cheap tasting beer.
The beat of the song that plays gets slower and so do you. Coming closer like magnets you hook your arms around her neck, pretending it’s innocent.
Finding your ear once again Emily whispers, “if you wanted to dance like this you could have just asked” wanting you to know that she’s been wanting to do this for a while.
You almost forget how to breathe before pulling her in closer. Suddenly feeling like you need to touch her. Need to have her closer.
The song picks up as you too continue, to what looks like everyone else grinding on each other. You two call it friendly.
She twirls you around playfully following the beat. Yeah this certifies it. You really can’t breathe. It doesn’t stop you though, pushing yourself back into her.
You know what you’re starting to feel but you can’t stop. It’s like you're stuck together. Her hands make their way down to your waist, the same place you had yours today.
“Y/N” she sort of sighs out.
This is all it takes, the way her voice sounded desperate is what makes you turn back around and smash your lips against hers. She takes a second to react but kisses you back wanting this just as much as you do. It’s fast, it's rushed and it’s hungry. As if you’ve been waiting for this your entire life.
You have.
She has too.
Suddenly remembering that you’re in public you laugh into the kiss before hesitantly pulling away, feeling the temperature rise 100 degrees.
“I’m going to the bathroom!” you yell over the music. Not really sure on what to do next.
Much to Emily’s dismay she internally agrees. Suddenly feels a little too sober now with your presence gone.
Becoming anxious as to what you’re doing she follows you into the dingy bathroom. She shouldn’t have expected a nice one.
“Y/N” she calls out, not wanting to yell just in case there’s someone else there.
Rounding the corner she sees you sitting on the dirty bathroom counter, you both not knowing what to say.
“You okay?” she asks you, it slowly becomes a pattern.
“Are you?” you ask back.
“Asked you first.”
“Come here” you ask her
She pauses for a second, frowning her eyebrows before walking closer to you. More specifically she puts her body in between your legs.
“Hi” you whisper now that she can hear you.
Emily’s not sure what’s about to happen.
“Hi.”
“We’re drunk right?”
“Right.”
“Good” is all you say before leaning in.
                                        ⭒⭒⭒⭒⭒
The alarm you forgot you set is what wakes you up, but the sleeping body next to you is what gets you up.
You sit up before remembering last night's events which slows your beating heart.
Looking over to Emily, you’re not sure what’s going through your head. A few thoughts of regrets pass through your head before you tell yourself it’s not really regret. You smirk at yourself remembering what went down stuck in your own bubble before also remembering that you had the alarm the night before for a reason.
The bus leaves at 7:00 am.
It’s 6:50 am.
You’re pretty sure yesterday you thought that since you naturally wake at 6:00 am ish each day the alarm was just a warning.
Shaking Emily you almost get distracted but the adrenaline cuts it off.
“Emily!” you croak out.
The worried sounding “Em!” is what wakes her up.
“Yeah?” she groans sleepily before getting hit by her has to be her jeans.
“The bus leaves in 10 fucking minutes.”
“What? Bus?” she sits up trying to gather her thoughts which her pounding headache is blocking.
You don’t have time to explain before going into the bathroom, hearing a “oh” from the bed knowing that she just figured it out.
“I can't find my pants” you say.
She tries to help you while getting dressed herself but fails, “here just take these” she tells you holding her shorts out with her number on it.
“Emily,” you say, coking your head to get your point across.
“It’s fine” she says rubbing her sleepy eye, “we’re roommates, roommates get their clothes mixed up all the time.”
You were gonna make a Tobin and Christen joke but opt against it once the feeling of anxiety about missing the bus refills you.
“What do we even need to bring” she asks, finally dressed.
“I don’t fucking know” you say panicked.
She grabs you as you walk past.
“Hey” Emily says softly, getting your attention.
“It’s fine, we’re fine. They’ll wait for us. Just grab sneakers, maybe a jacket and I’ll get a backpack.”
Her attempts to calm you down work. So easily. Normally once you feel anxious nothing can ever stop that but she just did.
Focusing on your task you finally feel a little better seeing how it’s now 6:55 am and you’re somewhat ready.
Grabbing sunglasses from the bathroom knowing you’ll need them you look back at Emily who still looks half asleep.
Smiling at yourself, it drops from your face when you see yourself in the mirror.
More specifically our neck.
“Fuck” you mumble under your breath.
Not having time to put makeup over it you grab your concealer, chuck your hoodie on and make your way to the door.
She could tell by the way you’re fixing your hood that it’s so cover something.
“Sorry” she tells you, trying to hide a smile.
“Fuck you” you say half joking half genuine.
“Yeah you did” she hits back quickly.
Before you could even scold her a loud banging at your door makes you both jump.
Since Emily is the closest she answers it, “yeah yeah we’re coming!” she says opening the door to reveal Rose and Mal.
You all greet each other, before the girls in front of you yell at the both of you for being this late.
“They’re going to kill us, let's go.”
Practically jogging through the lobby you both finally make it to the bus, offering an apology to Jill and a few others who're waiting outside for you girls.
Knowing that you’ll be sitting with your bus buddy you make the way down the aisle, searching for Tobin.
The smile on her face tells you 1 of 2 things. Either she knows or she just finds it amusing that you, out of all people were late.
Sitting down in your seat you let out a slow breath trying to calm down your stomach and head.
“Shut up” you tell her, feeling as if she was about to say something
You just get comfortable as you hear your phone ding. Not being bothered to get it from your bag you look at Tobin, silently asking her to get it for you.
“What did you do last night?” she asks teasingly.
She retrieves your phone, furrowing her eyebrows at the number on your shorts that caught her eye when she was coming back up.
She bites her lips to stop a laugh forming before handing you your phone.
When you answer whoever that was texting you, you lean back into the surprisingly comfy bus seat.
Tobin matches you, leaning over with a wide smile.
“I know what you d-i-i-d” she singsongs
A Soulmate’s Touch (Tobin Heath x Reader)
Tumblr media
Anonymous Request: A Tobin imagine showing the progression of being strangers on the same team to asking her out.
Two souls, parting in a past life again meet when you leave Arsenal to come to the US to join the USWNT, two souls reunite with a simple touch.
The second you step onto the bus, your eyes locked your heart skipping a beat as the Portland Thorn, and your newest teammate on the USWNT, Tobin Heath, sends you a soft smile, her brown orbs just as soft and shining slightly.
Christen’s green orbs dart from Tobin, to you and back, the woman’s lips splitting in a grin as she gives her best friend a nudge.
“She’s cute. Maybe she’s the one...” She whispers and Tobin huffs, bottom lip jutting out in a pout.
“Shut up Chrisssss...” She whines and Christen giggles.
You glance around nervously before taking an empty seat, you’d just recently been leant to the NWSL, coming from overseas where you’d played for Arsenal.
Being so new, you didn’t really know anyone on the USWNT, you were hoping, with camp, that this would change.
Unbeknownst to you, Emily Sonnett has turned to Tobin with a mischievous grin, the forward’s eyes widening as Emily moves to her feet.
Tobin sticks a foot out to block her, having the desired effect though a little more than she wanted considering Sonnett flops to the bus’s floor with a thud.
You look down at the floor the blonde groaning loudly as she grabs her head.
“I was going to introduce myself, but Tobin tried to kill me.” She whines and you grin, glancing at Tobin, the woman’s cheeks blood red.
“I did not!” She squeaks and you smirk, looking down at Sonnett, grabbing her hand and helping her to her feet.
“You did too!” She stomps her foot and you giggle, the forward’s scrunched up face adorable.
“Nice to meet you by the way.” The blonde grins and you beam.
“You too.”
Tobin huffs, flopping down in her seat.
Emily smirks as she moves to her seat.
“I got her to giggle, that’s something.”
“Shut up.”
                                                             ***
Camp had been a lot more light hearted than you expected, the USWNT players always laughing with their coaches, yes, the skirmishes were serious, but still it was more fun than you thought it would be.
You flopped down on the bench, covered in sweat as you watched your teammates play, each and every one of them masters at their craft, you knew deep down that you could never compete with them.
You can’t help but smile when you spot Ashlyn Harris’s sleeve, the tattoos forming on her arm when her and her wife, Ali Krieger touched at the same time as the story goes, same for the one on Ali’s forearm.
You take a deep breath, your eyes closing.
The stories go that when you touch your soulmate for the first time, a tattoo, related to their person burns into their skin.
Yeah, as a child the thought terrified you, but meeting your soulmate would be a dream come true.
“Y/N, you ready!?” Vlatko calls out and you jump to your feet.
“Always.”
You walk across the pitch, smiling when Tobin glances your way.
“I like this one.” She smiles, her fingertips brushing your forearm and you freeze.
Tobin drops to the ground first, grabbing the back of her neck as she cries out in pain, you following her seconds later, palming your left bicep.
“What’s wrong!?” Mallory yells as her and the rest of the USWNT run towards you, your teeth gritted in pain as you stare at your bare left arm, watching as your skin turns blood red.
Christen bats Tobin’s hands away, watching with wide eyes as a vertical line burns into the back of her neck, the word Love cutting across it to form a cross.
“Oh my god, you’re soulmates.”
Tobin had gotten the better end of the deal, considering her tattoo was so small.
Yours unfortunately was massive.
“It’s alright, it’ll be over soon.” Ashlyn whispers as she drops down beside you, watching as your skin darkens.
Your soul feels as if it’s trying to tear itself out of you to get to Tobin, though seeing as it’s unable to, it burns your skin, a searing pain that you’ll never forget, a reminder that Tobin Powell Heath is your soulmate.
Tobin crawls towards you, taking your hand, brown orbs glassy as she watches the tattoo burn its way onto your skin, multiple roses dotting your upper arm, blooming over thorn covered vines.
Tobin gently cups your cheek, leaning her forehead against yours as the tattoo burns its way to your neck before spreading, the searing pain ceasing as the thorned vines trail off down your back.
Tears stream down your cheeks as you pant heavily, pain thrumming through your body as beads of sweat run down your face.
Your eyes eventually flutter open, locking with Tobin’s watery brown orbs.
“That was definitely worse than mine.” Ashlyn whispers to Ali as you stare into Tobin’s brown orbs.
You open your mouth, ready to speak your eyes darting around your soulmate’s face.
“We’re-
The word barely leaves your mouth before you fall forwards, everyone’s eyes widening as you lose consciousness.
“Well fuck, you killed your soulmate.” Sonnett scoffs, everyone turning to her with a scowl, that is until you abruptly sit up, glancing around before you turn back to Tobin.
“We’re soulmates...?” You whisper and the Portland Thorn grins, resting her forehead against yours.
“Yeah... Yeah we are.”
                                                             ***
It turned out meeting your soulmate was incredibly awkward.
Awkward because an absolute stranger, who you’d just met the same day was now the woman you were supposed to spend the rest of your life with, of course, you didn’t have to, but the universe had put the two of you together for some reason.
And for god’s sake, your soulmate was THE Tobin Heath.
“This should help.”
You inhale sharply, body sagging as the cool ice from the bag meets your stinging flesh.
Tobin takes a seat beside you on the bench and you smile, the woman taking the bag of ice off her neck and placing it on your bicep.
“S-Sorry it was so big...” She mumbles, cheeks flushing and you smile as you peek at hers, the line with Love written across the back of her neck, turning it into a cross.
“I like it.” You smile, the forward turning to you with a grin.
“Chris showed me a picture... Yours...” Tobin traces the tattoo with her eyes, as much as she can considering it runs from your upper arm, to your neck before disappearing down your back.
You watch as the woman swallows hard, her cheeks darkening further.
“Yours is beautiful.”
Tobin smiles as she holds her hand out, her smile splitting into a massive grin that makes the corner of her eyes crinkle.
“I’m Tobin. Tobin Heath.”
You take her hand, the feel of her palm against yours sending a jolt through your body, one you know Tobin feels.
“I’m Y/N Y/L/N.”
                                                             ***
The two of you completely agreed that jumping right into a relationship was not what you wanted, you wanted everything that came in between.
You still had to go through camp to SEE if you were even going to make it on the USWNT, but you were hopeful, you’d been giving it your all and you knew the coaches and staff had noticed.
“Are you nervous?”
You jump, turning to Tobin, the woman smiling softly.
“Incredibly.” You whisper, the forward taking a seat beside you on the hotel room’s bed.
Tobin takes a deep breath, your cheeks flushing as she places a hand on your back, right over where your tattoo had formed weeks ago.
You turn to her, eyes wide as you feel an all encompassing warmth spread through you.
She abruptly turns away, cheeks darkening as she jerks her hand away.
“S-S-Sorry...” She stammers and you smile.
“Don’t be, you didn’t do anything wrong.”
The two of you go silent for a second before Tobin sneaks a peek at you from the corner of her eye.
“They never say how awkward it is meeting your soulmate in the stories, do they?” Tobin asks and you giggle, the woman turning towards you, a massive grin nearly splitting her face in half as you laugh.
“No, no they don’t.”
                                                             ***
You’d done it.
You were officially a part of the USWNT.
You couldn’t believe it at first, but when the others had made a beeline to you, you were absolutely stunned.
Tobin was of course, the happiest of all, the two of you had been growing closer and closer, you’d go so far as to say the two of you had become friends.
The woman beamed as she threw her arms around you and lifted you into the air, spinning you around excitedly when she’d got the news that you made the team.
“You look a little lost there.” You jump, glancing around, quickly realizing you’re on the field, in the middle of practice, and that you’d spaced out.
Unsurprisingly, Tobin had noticed, the woman had a habit of picking up on things you hadn’t ever even spoken to her about.
“How did you know I was spacing out?” You laugh and she snickers.
“A fly landed on you.” You roll your eyes, leaning against her.
A tingling sensation starts in your arm where the tattoo stains your skin, a feeling you know Tobin feels as well, the woman smiling as she rubs the back of her neck.
The two of you walk towards the sidelines, your skin buzzing, your cheeks flushing when you realize Tobin had linked her pinkie with yours, your cheeks flushing as you curl your pinkie around hers.
The buzzing spreads from your tattoo to the rest of your body, as if your souls are shaking with absolute glee at being together.
“Feels so nice.” Tobin mumbles, her cheeks flushed and you grin.
“It does.”
The two of you sit on the bench together, leaning against one another as your bodies hum, the two of you smiling softly, uncaring at the fact that everyone’s eyes are on you.
“What are they doing?” Kelley whispers and Ashlyn grins, turning to her wife.
“It’s a soulmate thing.”
                                                             ***
The two of you rarely separated after that, touching each other in some way, your souls calling out to one another.
The feeling you got from touching was a pleasure you couldn’t describe.
It wasn’t sexual, no, it was intimate, yes, but it felt like being whole.
It felt like you just finished a jigsaw puzzle that had taken your whole life thus far to complete, the final piece slotting into place.
Tobin hums, leaning heavily against you on the bus.
“Does it make you feel sleepy?” She yawns and you grin, leaning against her, your head resting on top of hers.
“It’s just so relaxing.” You whisper, knowing if your souls could make a sound, they’d be purring, content and happy with one another.
You can feel when Tobin falls asleep, the woman leaning heavier against you and you smile, resting against her.
“Night Toby.” You whisper, your eye lids heavy as you too fall asleep.
                                                             ***
“Do you uhhh...” Tobin swallows hard, glancing at Christen who nods, giving her a thumbs up as you watch Tobin with an arched brow.
“Yeah?” You chuckle and Tobin sighs.
“Do you want to ummm, share a room?” She mumbles and you grin, a bright smile that meets your eyes as you take Tobin’s hand.
“I’d love to.”
Tobin takes your bags eager, a charming smile on her face as she nods towards the elevator, you’re about to follow after her, but a hand on your wrist makes you still, its owner Christen Press, grinning.
“I hope you’re ready, she snores like a bear.” She whispers in your ear and you giggle, Tobin’s bottom lip jutted out in a pout.
“I do not.”
Kelley scoffs.
“Yeah, she does.”
Emily and Lindsey practically run towards the four of you, both grinning.
“Yeah, Tobin sounds like a chainsaw when she sleeps.”
Lindsey tilts her head back, her throat gurgling and Tobin frowns, her bottom lip jutting further out.
“Y/N, they’re picking on meeeee.” She whines and you snort.
“We’ll just have to see if they’re right.” You wink and her eyes widen, cheeks flushing.
“You’ll definitely do a lot more hearing than seeing because Tobin snores so loud it dulls the rest of your senses.” Alex, who’d joined the group giggles and Tobin pouts.
“Y/NNNNNNNNNNNNN.” She whines and you shake your head, smiling.
“Come on whiny.”
“I am not whiny.”
“Keep telling yourself that Tobes.”
                                                             ***
“Let’s just order in.” Tobin yawns as she snuggles into you, her nose buried in your hair.
“We have to go do teammate things you know.” You laugh, the woman letting out a growl.
“No.” She mumbles and you snort, shaking your head.
“We have to eat.”
“We’ll be fine.”
Just then Tobin’s stomach lets out a rumble and you roll your eyes, smacking her in the stomach, the woman grunting.
“Fine. Fine. Fine. But I’ll complain the whole time.” She huffs and you roll your eyes, throwing a pillow at her, smacking her right in the face.
“Alright Bob, let’s go.”
“Only if you hold my hand.”
You grin as you move towards her, taking her hand, your bodies again thrumming with pleasure.
“Of course I will.”
                                                             ***
You knew eventually you and Tobin would have to reveal to the world that you were soulmates, though neither of you were sure how.
Your teammates had been brainstorming, and eventually an idea came to the one and only Emily Sonnett.
“I GOT IT!” Emily screeches at practice one day, running to where you and Tobin are sitting side by side on the bench.
“Put your arm around Tobers.” She commands and you do, your brows furrowed.
Emily runs behind you, excitedly clapping.
“You alright?” Kelley snorts, moving to where she’s standing, a wide smile stretching across her face when she realizes what had excited the defender so much.
Soon the entire team is standing behind you, the two of you chastised for turning around to see what’s going on, while simultaneously leaning against one another, bodies thrumming pleasantly.
“Alright, don’t move.” Alex commands and you snort.
“We haven’t been.” You stick your tongue out, earning a flick to the ear.
“Shhh!” Alex giggles, the women going silent for a minute before they surround the two of you, Kelley passing you her phone.
You grin, glancing at Tobin, the forward nodding.
“I love it.” She grins, blushing when you rub the back of her neck, the two of you blind to the fact that Christen had taken a picture of the two of you staring at one another lovingly, your tattoo on full display as your fingertips brush her tattoo.
Ashlyn looks over Christen’s shoulder with a nod, Ali, and Megan nodding when they see the picture.
“Love it.”
                                                             ***
You’d be lying if you said you weren’t nervous.
You were about to tell the world that Tobin Powell Heath was your soulmate, someone you wanted to spend the rest of your life with, which in the weeks after your tattoo’s had formed, you knew that to be sure.
She was funny, attentive, sweet, caring, talented, beautiful, stunning... There were an infinite number of adjectives you could apply to the forward.
“What do you think?” Tobin leans towards you on the bench showing you the photos, she’d edited of the two of you together.
The one with only your arm, and the back of Tobin’s neck in it, your tattoos proudly on display.
Lastly, the second picture Christen took in secret, of the two of you staring lovingly at one another, Tobin’s cheeks flushed, her brown orbs wide as your fingertips trace her tattoo.
You smile softly, staring at the photo, unaware the Tobin is staring at you, a massive grin stretching across her face.
“Y/N?”
You jump, clearing your throat.
“Sorry I was just…” You turn to look at her, her grin massive.
Tobin’s eyes flutter shut, the woman purring when your fingertips brush the tattoo on the back of her neck.
“I love it.” You whisper and she smiles softly.
“I do too.”
                                                             ***
It was a week before the first game when Vlatko gave you the okay to come out as soulmates on Instagram.
Needless to say, the fans exploded, and soon you and Tobin were trending on Twitter, the fans shocked that the Portland Thorn and Arsenal player were soulmates.
Some fans were absolutely ecstatic, complementing the beautiful tattoos that had appeared on your skin, others though, were not so happy.
“Are you sure Y/N just didn’t draw it on her skin?” Ashlyn snorts and you huff, calmed by the feeling of Tobin’s hand in your own, your bodies still buzzing in pleasure.
“That’s a no considering we literally watched it literally form on your skin.” Megan makes a weird hand movement and you snort, your hand slipping behind Tobin’s neck and scraping against her inked skin.
Tobin groans softly, the sound sending a shiver down your spine. She turns away, clearing her throat.
“S-Sorry.”
The woman turns back to you, brown orbs wide and cheeks flushed when you continue to scratch the back of her neck, the woman literally putty beneath your fingertips.
“For what?” You grin, your tongue trapped between your teeth and she smiles, humming as she leans into your touch.
“I can’t remember.” She closes her eyes, smiling lazily and you snicker.
You’d be lying if you said you weren’t falling for the forward, her touch gentle, smile shining as much as her brown orbs.
Tobin Powell Heath was someone it was hard NOT to fall in love with, the way her eyes would soften when she smirked making your heart melt.
“You look like you’re a million miles away...” Tobin grins, her fingertips brushing your tattoo and you inhale sharply, jumping, your cheeks flushed and eyes wide.
You clear your throat.
You’d always had a thing for touching Tobin’s tattoo, but so far, Tobin hadn’t touched your own, and now that she had, you didn’t want her to stop, the feeling stimulating your every nerve ending.
Tobin bites her bottom lip, watching your reaction when her fingertips yet again brush your tattoo.
Your brows furrow, Tobin’s cheeks flushing at the foreign look on your face, a look that sends a shiver down her spine.
You smile lazily, the woman grinning.
You can’t help but pout when Tobin pulls her hand away, your bottom lip jutting out as far as it can, though you immediately suck it back in when Tobin boldly slips a hand behind your neck, dipping her fingers down into your shirt, fingertips brushing your tattoo.
“Better?” She asks and you grin.
“Better.”
                                                             ***
You hadn’t expected so many fans to be representing the both of you, some wearing Tobin’s jersey while holding a sign with your pictures on them.
You turn to Tobin on the bench, the two of you wearing bright yellow vests, both covered in sweat from your time on the field.
You grin as you slip an arm around her.
“I didn’t expect fans to already be representing.” You whisper in her ear and she laughs, a grin stretching across her face, the one that makes the corner of her eyes crinkle.
“Of course, they are, they’re USWNT fans, they’re always ready, for literally anything.” She laughs and you beam, your fingers brushing against the tattoo on her neck.
“I’ll still have to win SOME of them over.” You lean against her, smiling when you see someone in the stands glaring at you.
“Well, if someone doesn’t like you, they must be crazy because you’re the kindest, sweetest, most beautiful-
Tobin stops midsentence, her cheeks blood red as she stares at the field, not wanting to see your reaction.
“Why’d you stop? I’d like to hear more about how amazing I am.” You giggle, the woman nudging you just as the final whistle blows, the USWNT again the victors.
You move to your feet to shake hands, Tobin moving to hug Christen and the others as the two of you move around field, eventually meeting up, your pinkies linking together.
“Excuse me, Y/N, Tobin? May I get a word?” A reporter asks and you glance at Tobin, the woman nodding.
You swallow hard, clearing you throat, you weren’t the type to do interviews, considering you were the quiet type, but one feel of Tobin’s fingers intertwining with yours and you smile, the familiar buzzing in your body causing you to relax.
“As per usual, you both played a FANTASTIC game, but I have to ask you about the news that surfaced a few weeks ago.” He smiles and the two of you blush, glancing down at your intertwined fingers.
“Yeah, it came as a surprise to the both of us.” You chuckle nervously and the man nods.
“Mind if I asked how it happened?”
“I brushed her arm and practice and...” Tobin motions to your tattoo before rubbing the back of her neck.
“So, does this mean you’re an item?” He teases and your cheeks flush.
“We’re taking it slow; no one ever tells you how awkward it is to meet your soulmate when you’re complete strangers...” You turn to Tobin, beaming. “We're definitely not strangers now though.”
Tobin’s cheeks flush and the reporter grins.
“Well, I’ve taken up enough of your time ladies, congrats to you both.” He nods and you both grin, nodding in return.
The man takes his leave and you both turn to one another.
“Well, that went well.” You snort and Tobin nods.
“I bet we really won the fans over.” She winks, and you give her a nudge.
“Well, I hope they vote for me.” You giggle and she rolls her eyes.
“Let’s join the others.”
                                                             ***
“Wait, where are we going?” Tobin asks with a chuckle and you grin.
“I saw something when we were on the bus on the way to the stadium.” You giggle.
Tobin shakes her head, adjusting the hat on the top of her head as you drag her down the street, the woman watching you with a grin.
The Portland Thorn had fallen for you and fallen hard, the woman completely and utterly smitten.
Tobin simply let you drag her along, willing to follow you wherever you took her.
“Tobe?” You wave a hand in her face and she clears her throat, cheeks pink.
“Sorry, what did you say?” She giggles and you roll your eyes, nodding towards the building beside you.
Tobin’s brown orbs widen, lighting up as she stares at the neon sign.
“You took me to an arcade?” She whispers, bottom lip jutted out and your brows furrow.
“Are you crying?” You snort and she shakes her head.
“No... Just my...” She swipes at her eyes. “Allergies?”
You snort.
“You sound convin-
Tobin practically sprints into the arcade, your fingers intertwined as she makes a beeline for an open machine.
“Tokens!?” She whines and you giggle, leaning in to press a kiss to her cheek.
“I’ll go get you some tokens.”
Tobin stands still, eyes wide as she watches you go, the woman’s hand on the cheek your lips had been on moments ago.
“Ye-Yeah, su-sure.”
                                                             ***
“YEAH!” Tobin punches the air excitedly and you shake your head, watching as the forward celebrates her win before diving into another level.
You shake your head, watching your soulmate excitedly play the arcade game, her tongue trapped between her teeth.
You lean against the out of order machine next to her, watching intently at the faces she makes while gaming, the grin on her face making your heart swell.
You were absolutely in love with the forward, you never knew someone could take your heart so easily, but considering your souls were literally made for one another, it would be surprising if it WEREN’T easy.
“HELL YEAH!”
You jump at Tobin’s shout, the woman abruptly turning to you, cupping your cheeks and pulling you into a kiss.
Stars explode behind your eyes, a feeling overcoming you that you’d never felt before, your body tingling as your lips meet, your souls kissing again in two new bodies, their promise to meet again in the next life fulfilled and then some.
Your fingers scrape the back of Tobin’s neck and she lets out a raspy groan, it’s then you’re INCREDIBLY happy that the two of you are alone in a back room at the sparse arcade.
The two of you part, eyes shining as they flutter open and lock, your souls snarling in protest over the fact that you aren’t kissing.
Tobin’s lips split into a dazzling grin, her eyes nearly shut because she’s grinning so wide.
“I can’t believe you’re the one I get to spend the rest of my life with...” She whispers, leaning in to press another kiss to your lips, your souls sighing as your lips meet again.
“I’m so lucky.” She sniffles, a tear running down her cheek and you beam, swiping her tears away with the pads of your thumbs before you’re leaning back in, lips meeting in a tender, salty tasting kiss.
“I’m just as lucky to have you Tobin... If not more.”
Tobin shakes her head, playfully brushing her nose against yours.
“I don’t know about thatttttt....” She shrugs and you snicker, throwing your arms around her neck and leaning in pressing another kiss to her lips.
Your souls purr as the two of you kiss, your foreheads resting against one another.
“What do you say we head back to the hotel?” You grin. “I’m sure there’s some shitty TV movie we can cuddle up together and watch.”
Tobin bites her bottom lips, tips of her ears pink.
“Sounds perfect.”
                                                             ***
Needless to say, when you get back to the hotel, the movie is forgotten, your souls again calling out to one another, longing to kiss again and again.
So that’s where you ended up, the two of you sweetly kissing in bed, giggling against one another’s lips.
The kisses are tame, your lips against hers and nothing more, the two of you rolling around in bed as you kissed, bodies thrumming in pleasure.
You eventually still, laying on top of Tobin, looking down at the Portland Thorn with a grin, eyes sparkling with adoration.
Tobin wraps her arms around you, fingertips on your tattoo as your hand slips behind her neck, your nails scrapping against the back of her neck.
“So, does that mean the arcade was our first date?” Tobin asks and you grin, turning to nuzzle into her neck.
“I mean, you did kiss me.” You whisper, squealing when Tobin rolls you over, now on top of you.
“And you kissed me back.”
You roll over again, the two of you falling off the bed, Tobin taking the brunt of the fall considering she’s beneath you.
“Oh my god, I’m sorry.” You giggle, the woman shaking her head, grimacing.
“You sound real sorry.” She snorts and you giggle, tears in your eyes.
“I mean, I’m hurt too, I had a pretty hard landing, you’re nothing but muscle.” You shamelessly flirt and she rolls her eyes, cheeks pink as she fights off a smile.
You grin, jumping off of her, moving back towards the bed, stretching.
You let out a squeak when Tobin tackles you onto the bed, peppering your cheeks with kisses.
She eventually stills, the two of you panting heavily, your eyes locked.
“I want you to be my girlfriend.” She whispers and you grin, surging in for a kiss.
“I thought you’d never ask.”
                                                             ***
Emily gasps loudly at practice the next day.
“TOBIN HEATH AND Y/N Y/L/N SPOTTED KISSING WHILE ON AN ARCADE DATE!” She screams, you and Tobin staring at one another with wide eyes, cheeks blood red.
“Jesus Christ, are the paparazzi invisible?” You snort and Tobin shrugs.
“I wonder if they got my high score in the picture, was pretty lit.” She grins and you roll your eyes, snorting as you give her a playful nudge.
“Soooooooooooooooooooo...?”
You both jump, realizing Christen had basically materialized in front of you.
“How did you get over here without making any sound?” You whisper, realizing everyone is staring your way with wide eyes.
“She basically teleported over there.” Kelley whispers in awe, turning to Alex who shrugs.
“I didn’t see her move.” Emily shakes her head, turning to Lindsey. “Did you?!”
“No, she just appeared.”
“BACK TO THE ELEPHANT ON THE FIELD.” Christen yells and everyone freezes, the woman turning to you both with a grin.
“SOOOOOOOOOOO...?!” Christen says again, you and Tobin sharing a glance.
“Sooo?” Tobin asks and Christen growls.
“DO I GET TO GIVE Y/N THE SHOVEL TALK!?” She asks and the two of you share another glance, both blushing.
You swallow hard, taking a step back.
“Don’t try to run.” Megan yells. “She’ll use her inhuman speed to catch you!”
Christen grins maliciously, rubbing her hands together eagerly.
You turn on your heels and run away, Tobin’s eyes widening when Christen takes off after you.
“IT’S FUNNER FOR ME IF YOU RUN!”
Tobin shakes her head when Christen tackles you, her eyes wide.
“The shovel talk doesn’t mean you kill her!”
                                                             ***
Christen gives you an apologetic smile and you chuckle.
“Sorry, got a little carried away, I’ve never gotten to give the shovel talk before.”  Christen grimaces and you shake your head.
“It’s okay...” You smile. “It means a lot to me that you care about her so much, she’s lucky to have a friend like you.” You nudge her and Christen grins.
“She’s my best friend and I just want her to be happy... I just want you to treat her right.”
You nod, the forward smiling when you lean against her.
“I will. I’m made for her after all.” You wink and Christen giggles.
“Sorry for the tackle.”
You grin.
“It’s alright, good form, have you ever thought about being a linebacker?”
Tobin moves towards the bench, eyes narrowed.
“Are we playing nice? Has Chris attacked you again?” She asks and you shake your head.
“No, she hasn’t.”
Tobin nods.
“Good, can’t have my best friend killing my soulmate.” Tobin gives the woman a pointed look and Christen giggles.
“No killing, I like her too much.”
Christen moves off the bench, Tobin immediately taking the empty seat she’d left vacant, the woman kissing your cheek.
“You okay?” She asks and you nod.
“I am.”
You stare into Tobin’s eyes, your heart skipping a beat.
“I’m more than okay.”
You hear a retching noise and glare across the field at Kelley, the woman grinning.
“Stop looking at each other like that.”
“Yeah, this isn’t a Rom Com.” Emily teases and your cheeks flush.
Christen shakes her head.
“Leave the love birds alone you two.”
Christen sends you a wink before dragging the others back onto the field, leaving you and Tobin behind, the two of you blushing.
“That DEFINITELY wasn’t how I expected the shovel talk to go...” Tobin snorts, rubbing the back of her neck and you smile.
“I knew a shovel talk was coming, but not a tackle.”
Tobin’s cheeks flush when you lean against her, her tattoo buzzing, as she slips an arm around you, your own tattoo buzzing as well.
“To be honest, I’d be fine with whatever shovel talk was coming, as long as it meant I was with you.”
Tobin’s eyes widen as she turns to you, the woman smiling bashfully as her eyes lock with yours.
The forward leans in, closing the distance between you in a tender kiss, a kiss that seals the relationship between the two of you.
It’s after that kiss that the relationship between the two of you ramps up, your relationship eventually turning into an engagement, and that engagement turning into a marriage.
You never knew a call up to the USWNT would lead you to your soulmate, let along that soulmate being THE Tobin Heath, but now, lying beside her, the two of you entirely bare after the first night of your honeymoon, you knew that wherever life had taken you, you would’ve ALWAYS ended up with Tobin Heath.
Whether it be you brushing up against her or running into each other on the Portland streets, your souls would continue to meet in this time and next, because Tobin Heath was your soulmate and you wouldn’t have it any other way.
