hello ridi! sorry if this is a bother and feel free to ignore but i was wondering if you know anyone popular/famous who has an accent similar to how you picture s r j & p. as a non native english speaker my experience with different british accents is limited but i would love to hear some interviews/videos to get a better idea! thank u<3
hi hello! okay, ive been thinking about this all day. there are so many different british accents that honestly im not even familiar with them all! but ive tried to assemble a few examples for each--im adding a disclaimer now that i dont think these voices are at all accurate (like, at ALL) they're just general examples of people with accents from the general regions i imagine the boys to be from!! placing this under the cut as i rambled for way longer than you probably wanted me to <3
starting off with sirius !! terrible little rich bugger. really if you imagine the most stereotypical, ridiculous, over the top posh british accent, in my head you're not far off. loathe as i am to ever refer to eton set politicians or the royal family (hiss, jeer) for anything, here's a few videos linking to people who have an 'upper class' english accent which unfortunately includes them : eddie redmayne / misc upper class / more misc upper class
next up!! peter!! i imagine peter to be from the sort of lancashire area in the northwest. i reckon i have northern mutuals with a better ear for this than me who might well see me link three videos that contain completely different accents that i'm just shit at telling apart, but here's a few links for examples of accents from lancashire, including british comedian jon richardson / burnley, lancashire / preston, lancashire
for remus!! full disclaimer. i am not welsh. i know what a 'welsh accent' sounds like in my head, but im shite for specifics and am also aware that there is...more than one type of welsh accent, obviously. so! seeing as i am rather under-qualified here, i asked my welsh friend to break down the main accents (and refused to tell her what it was for), and judging from her input i'd put him in pembrokeshire, in the south-west. in my head i imagine remus with pretty soft accent--especially as he gets older n moves away. couldn't find a great example, but one is welsh actor rhys ifans !
and finally james!! jim!! i honestly just imagine him with a pretty generic--if slightly posher than standard--greater london accent (i think? im now completely reevaluating how i talk). its like if you imagine that stereotypical british accent again, but then imagine it--bit less posh, bit more normal. honestly his accent is so generic in my mind that i struggled to place examples, but then i realised!! daniel radcliffe!! i completely forgot to comb through the near exhaustive list of british actors that is the h*rry p*tter cast list!! alternatively: robert pattinson n andrew garfield . again, not saying these voices are at all accurate, but honestly--nearly anything works for james, he sounds like every british character in a film made by non-brits ever <3
there you have it! obviously this is all purely my opinion, sorry these are such random examples/clips. they're not all spot on, but as references for imagination purposes they aren't terrible? im probably showing myself up as being woefully ignorant about british accents despite having lived here my whole life n if i made any mistakes do let me know! i truly earnestly apologise to any british mutual who had to read this <3
