working on a short post (…maybe? look. anyone following me knows what my version of short looks like, when it comes to media analysis) about why from a structural/implications level, i don’t love the read that ed’s desire to throw a talent show is an indication he needs to be brought down to earth by any means necessary 

(ft why that read also makes that scene between ed and lucius in the blanket fort sort of… narratively atonal in a way that also strips it of the poignance of connection)

#look i just think there’s a lot of ground between ‘ed’s fine now the talent show means he’s fine’ which i am certainly not arguing #and ‘the talent show is an indication ed is attempting to start finding out what he likes’ and thus a hopeful thing #he knows what he does NOT like #also don’t love the implications of arguing izzy was calling ed a nambypamby (which:we all know what unsaid implications exist there) #(calling a man effeminate pulls on some very basic shit we alllll understand lbr) #and saying he’d wish he let ed die in response to ed being unhealthy and needing to be snapped out of it lends an air of righteousness #i would argue ed is trying to change and izzy hates change is the point of the scene #among other things of course but like: why is ed putting on a robe and singing unhealthy? #stede bonnet did not sing and he does not have a monopoly on robes #so unless we’re saying ed can’t possibly like singing or robes… #etc etc etc i’m gonna work on the piece now
