In all the years you had known Inspector Sullivan, he had been irritated with Kembleford, mostly with Father Brown and Sid, but his irritability wasn't like this. This was new. Even Sgt. Goodfellow mentioned being surprised by Sullivan's more forward hostility.
It was so nice to see him again, though, and you weren't going to let him be grumpy in peace. Also, you weren't sure if it was possible for him to stiffen up any further, but he did, just at the prospect of a walk. Yet, he followed along anyway.
You both stepped along aimlessly until you came to a stop, pulling a book out of the bag you carried almost everywhere.
His eyes furrowed as you offered it to him, eyeing the blue ribbon you had tied neatly across the title.
"I had gotten it for you shortly before you left, but I was never able to get it to you. And your visits have always been so short and busy."
"That's - Thank you." He let out a sigh, free hand running over his forehead. This whole village gets under his skin, Father Brown most of all, but you? You managed to get under his skin and his ribs, and he can't run away from his heartbeat when you look at him. He's tried.
Forwardness be damned. He stepped closer to you, breath heavy. His hands nearly shook as your breath hitched, eyes trailing up his blue suit to meet his.
"Inspector," you breathed.
This was as far as he could go.
"Thank you."
He already said that.
"What time do you take your tea?"
He blinked, what?
Oh.
"I'll pick you up at 9." His words were surprisingly steady.
"Where?"
A soft smile pulled at the corner of his lips with an even smaller tilt of his head.
"Tomorrow is Sunday, is it not?"
Oh.
"Sounds lovely." You smiled, fighting the urge to sigh happily. Not that you didn't do so when he stepped away and began walking in the direction of the station.
Father Brown was surprised to see you at the early Mass, but it all made sense when he saw what surely was the Inspector's car at the road.

Admitting You Love Him
Part Two of a previous imagine requested by @ateliefloresdaprimavera
Well, no one was surprised by Lady Felicia, but when she threatened it you didn't believe she'd do it.
But she did. And you were horrified.
The Inspector was obviously uncomfortable. His eyes were looking in just about every corner, anything to avoid looking at you, which to be honest, kind of hurt.
"Inspector, I'm sure she'll let us out of here. Please stay calm." He huffed.
"Lady Felicia, open this door. I have important police matters to attend to."
On the other side of the door Felicia grinned.
"I'm afraid I can't, not until you tell Y/N how you feel." Sullivan's cheeks turned pink for a moment.
"Inspector?" No response.
"Inspector, are you alright?"
"I'm fine. Perhaps you could convince her to let us out?" You stood, walking slowly to the door.
"Felicia, please." You knew this wouldn't work, he didn't have feelings for you.
No response. You suspected she went for a drink. You sat back down with a sigh.
***
"Right. So she won't let us out of here until I admit it so here goes,"
You drew in a breath, preparing to say goodbye to your life in Kembleford, because you would move as soon as you got out of this room.
"You are one of the smartest men I know. You're dedicated to your job and to this town and I have grown quute fond of you."
Sullivan's eyes widened and he opened and shut his mouth several times. The door opened and Felicia poked her head in.
"You two are free to go." You rushed out the door, leaving a dumbstruck inspector and a smirking aristocrat in your wake.
"You probably should go after them." Sullivan looked between Lady Felicia and the door before rushing out.
"Y/N! I'll give you a ride back to the station." Wow. Smooth.
"No thanks Inspector, I think I'll walk." He huffed.
"I insist. It's late. I don't want you getting hurt."
You stopped. That's as close as you were going to get you supposed. You turned around and walked towards him.
"Would it be alright if I kissed you, Inspector?" But then he surprised you.
He placed a gentle kiss on your cheek.

Everybody knew it. It was cliche really, you looked at him, he looked at you, then he'd clear his throat and resume asking questions
Father Brown knew it first, in fact he tried to talk about it a couple of times, but eventually decided to let the Will of God run its course.
Sid figured it out when he gave you a ride one rainy evening to the police station. There had been a string of robberies in Kembleford, and the Inspector was going to pull an all-nighter to try and catch the offenders. You insisted on dropping off a meal despite the fact it was pouring down rain. And the fact he accepted it only confirmed that he felt the same way too.
Lady Felicia may have been the second person to figure it out, she just knows these things somehow.
"If he doesn't confess I will lock those two in a room together. The chemistry is suffocating." Sid chuckled and lit his cigarette.
"Tell me about it."
So sorry it took so long! This will be a two part fic! I hope it's looking like what you requested!

🎂 Birthday Headcanons: Inspector Sullivan
Really hesitant to say anything all day?
You were kinda sad about that though
Goodfellow wished you well, Mrs. McCarthy made you a small cake, Sid dropped by to tell you happy birthday, Father Brown was the sweetest though
Anyway
You were about to leave when he called you back into his office and you were nervous? Did you file something wrong?
Instead he just took a deep breath and wished you a happy birthday.
Poor boy so anxious 😓
You turned red
"Thank you inspector."
(Kiss him on the cheek maybe?)

If Sullivan was going to be completely honest with himself, you managed to sneak your way into his heart without even trying.
And after a very risky run-in with some mad criminal, he could not bear to have you try and walk home. (Father Brown was always an option, but when would our grumpy cop actually consider that?)
Sgt. Goodfellow offered to drive (HIS OTP!!). Inspector Sullivan tried to argue of course, but Goodfellow had already left the station.
So, he was currently sitting by you, attempting not to stare at you, which came off more as ignoring your presence.
“Thanks for the rescue, Inspector,” you spoke with a slight smile.
It’s likely you were imagining things, but Sullivan’s eyes seemed to soften when he looked at you right then.
He leaned in and pressed a light kiss on your cheek.

Imagine....
He looked so angry. You shouldn’t have done it, but you did anyway, reaching out and gripping his wrist in your hand.
“Inspector? Are you alright?” He sighed, prompting you to let him go.
“I’m fine.”You sent him a doubtful look but didn’t push any further, knowing it would only upset him more.
“If you need anything, let me know,” Your eyes were probably glazed over in concern.
"Thank you."

Felicia Knows
You decided to follow Lady Felicia to the race today, unsure why, but was having a gay time, especially with all the drinks your friend had been ingesting.
That’s when he caught your eye (again). The usual blue suit was replaced with gray. Lady Felicia caught your staring and nudged you.
“Darling, you wait much longer and he won’t be available.” You shrugged and proceded to wave at Father Brown and Sid. So when Sullivan walked over and nodded at you, you blushed slightly.
"Clueless." Felicia uttered, taking another sip of alcohol.

Hands Off
Trigger Warning: Abuse Part One The Inspector wasn't happy to say the least, but than again, was he ever? His eyes scrutinized your face, stopping at the bruise forming on your right eye. "Y/N?" "It was an accident, I'm very clumsy-" "Who did it?" You snapped your mouth shut. "Nobody. I'm clumsy is all." His gaze softened as he placed his hands on your shoulders. "They're not going to hurt you anymore. Who is it?" You sighed and breathed out the name, staring at the floor. He nodded, putting on his hat and coat, leaving you in the office.

Imagine Getting Coffee for the Inspector
It was quite a sight really, Inspector Sullivan looked awake and alert enough, but you knew from experience that dawn was a pesky part of the day. You waited until the inspection of the body had been completed before you joined the inspector on the side of the road, and handed him a cup of coffee. "I hope this isn't part of your usual morning routine," you commented, earning raised eyebrows and a small smirk. "And it better not start." He answered, prompting a second smile to appear. "I'll need you down at the station later to take your statement." "Of course." He handed you back the empty cup and tipped his hat before retreating back to the car. @ghostofachancewithyou @goodoldbaz

Lady Felicia Catches On
"My goodness, you've got it bad." You whipped your head towards Lady Felicia. "Pardon?" "The Inspector, my friend, the inspector." You bit your tongue. "I don't understand," you lied, causing Lady Felicia to lay a gloved hand on your shoulder. "Honey, you're terrible at hiding it. However, I have on good word that he's not with someone." You couldn't stop your cheeks from turning red now. "Lady Felicia-" "Hush, go get the man."

Imagine Sid Teasing You About Your Crush On the Inspector
"You stare any harder and your eyes might pop out your head." You snapped your head towards Sid. "What are you talking about?" Sid laughed, "You can't take your eyes off the Inspector!" You flattened the nonexistant wrinkles on your skirt. "You're imagining things Sid," you sighed, stepping off the stairs. You couldn't help it that the Inspector always wore such nice clothes (and had a nice face).
