#that was literally a point with kiana's character development iirc

i agree with ur post tbh, xiao might not even have died he might have just wasted away trapped underground with no other way out and thats not even the self sacrifice he would have hoped for so its really for the best that he made it out (it also would have made me really sad if he died after all that but thats neither here nor there lol. anyway thank god that wasnt the story hoyoverse was trying to tell in that moment)
EXACTLY! He would have still suffered by himself underground with the ghosts of his past (both his family of Yakshas and the nightmares of his time being enslaved) and his karmic debt eating away at him for potentially years or even decades after he "sacrificed" himself before passing away. Even with Bosacius' sacrifice, as tragic as his end was, was able to remember his name, his family and his duty and was at peace before his death moments later. Especially going with what the story set up with at the time, it would have rendered the point of including Yelan and Itto (yes, him too lol) being there pointless. The point of those two being their with Xiao was that self sacrifice should not be the immediate option because you will hurt yourself in the process along with the ones you leave behind (survivor's guilt; Yelan) and that it is okay to be with others despite who you are and what your past you carry and to rely on your friends too (Itto). I do believe hoyoverse will kill some of the current characters that are playable right now in the story, but like you said, it wasn't the story they wanted to tell right now. I just think people thinking Xiao dying here should have been the outcome yet got angry when La Signora died (rightfully so, though) are being a bit silly
