feel like writing about blessed. so Charlie “Ace of Spades” (everyone calls him ace.)
He is human, and has no supernatural abilities, something that is very common to have to some extent (maybe like 60% percent of kids. this is something that has cropped up in this generation, so there are very few adults with such abilities, even with those no humans with powers are over 25), even if its just small solely aesthetic abilities. (maybe twenty percent of kids with powers have ‘cool’ powers like Sierra(photographic memory in a headspace) or Theo(can control move simple machines with his mind) versus being able to change hair and eye color at will or grow and retract their nails a little bit like claws/)
He’s lived in the outer parts of town all his life. He was raised by his mom until she died when he was 10. After that he went to live with his dad (who doesn’t know that he’s his dad, just a friend of his mom.)
Before this, his dad had taught him how to play card games, and how to cheat at them. He also taught him magic tricks and other sleight of hand.
when he was thirteen, he moved out to sort of just start living independently. (I’ll elaborated later on the worldbuilding of the city, but the communities in the outskirts closer to the beach are almost entirely self sufficient and hostile towards the government. Everyone knows everyone in the neighborhood and its totally normal for a kid to move out by basically living in a tent, starting a garden, and receiving support from the rest of the community)
When he was fifteen he met Kat and Camilla Nova, twins (who i am trying to still figure out the specifics of their past but were basically Isekai ‘d into their current bodies in this city/general society) who are definitely not human, and know something about the cities government that the government doesn’t want anyone to know.
With this, they set off on a journey, and a few months later meet Sierra, and with this the story begins.
Nearer to the end (in like the second half of the story) a romance develops between him and Cascade, a murder of crows who can morph into a single human body (but with feathers instead of hair) and is trying to live life as an individual (but still plural) member of society. In the epilogue, the two are in a long-term relationship.
