Part 2 of the Cu Beauty and the Beast AU discussion with rigamaroo
@rigamaroo
...Mr. Ree as the Enchantress....
*cracks up laughing*
Ok, but that actually kind of makes sense (though I’m now thinking of the whole ‘Tim the Enchanter’ thing from Monty Python). You make good points and given how he’s like with Krupp as well as being an ‘only sane man’ it in of makes sense. Now I can see his ‘real form’ included a nice green suit and that toilet plunger is secretly his wand.
I don’t think he’d do the ‘offering the rose’ trick, but I think he’d try to give fair warning to Krupp about separating the boys and making so many students suffer in the process as a test to see if there’s a bit of compassion left in him. And he’d probably try to subtly remind him that ‘not all parents would be supportive if they deemed their child as failures, like if if they couldn’t pass a grade’ so see if that could awaken SOMETHING in Krupp. And of course, Krupp doesn’t listen.
Considering how well he got along with the boys, I could see him not punishing the kids with Krupp, but the other adults are getting kicked out because they won’t be of much use. Also, I think he would LOVE laughing a final, ironic laugh over Krupp by making it so that the only time he can be a human in the dream world is though the form of the character that his least favorite students created.
In the meantime, he’d stay in Piqua to keep an eye out to see if there’s anyone who could help break the curse.
Yeah, I bet when Edith is upset and with the boys, its probably an hour after they lost their freedom that they start falling asleep. Sometime later, she’s transported to a dream version of Piqua, where everything is brighter and yet more natural looking at the same time–it doesn’t have an oppressive feel. She’s wandering around and when she sees someone who looks almost exactly like the boys’ comic book character, she’s startled, but tries to ask what’s going on, but ... well because this is also technically the first time ‘CU’ is in this dream world, I think he would get startled and run away (though I don’t think Krupp is ever fully aware as to how his human form looks in the dream–I mean, he NEVER noticed anything beyond the fact that his clothes were missing).
Gah, but I’d LIVE for those interactions between Edith and ‘CU’ because of the cuteness. And yeah, CU would try to encourage Edith to try to show some patience and compassion to the beast–little things to make his life less miserable or to make him feel more like a human being again. I had this cute idea that Krupp doesn’t really know how to dance, but in the dream world, CU is asking Edith to help him learn to dance before the special night without telling her the reason why. And then even though he’s still a nervous wreck, Krupp feels a little more comfortable with it and–more importantly–doesn’t feel as if he’s going to hurt her. ^_^ I’m also debating on when Edith would do that one little thing that Belle did and resting her head on his chest during the dance. It could be both times, so that the second time it feels more comforting and right (as well as oddly familiar). I’m also debating on having her wear street clothes (whatever she’s wearing at the time) or wear a nightgown in the dream. I think Krupp would quickly figure out most of what is going on, but he wouldn’t dare say anything for the reasons you say. Also, because he doesn’t want those few times of being human and seen as a human ruined.
(Oh god, it’s almost tempting to be funny and have him run into the boys in a separate dream, but I don’t know if that would be too much.)
But yeah, the dreams are ways for them to get to open up to each other without realizing it. Their both still in the awkward phase for awhile, but in the dream world where they both can feel confident is where they can open up to who they think are dream figures.
I REALLY want the boys to remember. It could be the second they step foot on the school, or it could be as they gradually re-trace their steps, from the sign, to the detention room (where they began to bond over a love of comic books), to the shock of seeing their faces in the old school yearbook from nearly three years ago, to those things you mentioned... it would slowly build up until they realize the truth. There’s also the matter of how soon they need to be aware as to how the curse can be broken, be it during their time at the school or when they are back home and they are trying to remember how they bonded.
One idea I had was that they were RIGHT THERE when Krupp got cursed and was able to hear nearly all the crucial details. Like he was gloating over how he finally found a way to separate the boys and ruin their friendship by canceling the tests and ensuring that one boy would have to redo a grade, and keep that boy in the school for an additional year when the other one would leave. Except they were the first to get their memories wiped by our Enchanter right afterwards when they realized ‘oh yeah, these kids are still here.’
Whatever happens, even though they have regained these bad memories of their principal, they know that it would be cruel to let him keep suffering after finally showing positive changes, and when they realize there’s still a way to help him, that’s when they try to help Edith and/or get the kids to stop the adults.
Also, I had a super adorable idea that involves when the curse is broken. Its George and Harold who are facing Krupp, while Edith is facing him from behind (like in the animated film, where Belle doesn’t immediately see the prince’s face until he turns around). So as he’s waking up, they instantly know what happened and practically tackle hug him together out of relief while he’s still kneeling on the ground, which startles him. He gives in and hugs them back, but then it takes him a few moments to realize that the arms holding the boys are human and it’s another moment before he realizes those are HIS arms, and he lets go of the boys to examine them in disbelief. When he realizes what it means, that’s when he finally turns around and Edith finally sees a face she thought she’d never see again that she wasn’t expecting–the face of the hero from her dreams.
