“Rex— REX!” Hailey only started yelling when he began to close his eyes. She had dragged him out of harm’s way, but she could both drag him and press her hands against the wound. His blood left a trail that would lead the werewolves right into this hiding spot, but that wasn’t Hailey’s priority. Her priority was to hold back her tears as she stroked Rex’s face with one hand and pressed against the torn flesh with the other. Her voice trembled. “Stay with me. Y-You’re gonna be o-okay. Rexie?”

There was no thought in the act - there was no need to think. He didn’t see any other option but to protect her, even at the cost of his own life. He was fully aware of the consequences, but that didn’t matter to the omega - nothing mattered more than Hailey. He knew that dying wouldn’t be fair to her, that she would be losing him and he knew - he could see - how the mere thought was tearing her apart. The tears that she was fighting back, the desperation in her voice - no, it wasn’t fair for him to die...But selfishly he thought, As long as you’re okay...it doesn’t matter what happens to me...

His bloody hand weakly reached up, tenderly touching the soft hand stroking his face. His lips quivered as he attempted to smile, succeeding in giving her a small one that he manage to hold for a good while. He would fight, of course, to stay with her - that’s what she wanted from him, to stay with her. He wanted that too, but for how long he had to admit, he couldn’t say. His wounds were trying to heal, he could feel it - if anything else had injured him, Rex would be more confident in his survival. But one of his own attacked, their claws mercilessly tearing through his body, wounding him worse than he’s ever been before. Rex couldn’t remember ever being so close to death...At least, if he were to die, his last moments were being spent with her.

“I...” 

He forced out his breath, his words raspy and voice breaking. Tiny spittle of blood leaked from the corners of his mouth as he worked his throat to speak.

“...L...ove...”

With the little strength he had, Rex squeezed the hand he took into his own, his blue-green hues never breaking from Hailey’s beautiful face. If she were to be the last image he would ever see, Rex was more than content with that.

“...You...”

The omega managed to work the muscles in his face to move once more, giving her the best wink he could in his weakened state.

“...P-Poodle...”

Heavy lids fell shut. His hand lost strength, his body going limp. Rex lost consciousness, a vast shadow claiming his mind and senses. 

Was he dead? 

He had no idea.

Rex x Hailey Ship Child

Name: Rylee Katherine Howard Gender: Female General Appearance: Long brown hair, light complexion, Hailey’s nose, combination of Rex and Hailey’s eyes - color hazel green, soft features, Hailey’s smile Personality: Energetic, kind, empathetic, caring, protective, spunky, courageous, warm hearted and has a big heart, literal excitable puppy Special Talents: Being she is half wolf, Rylee’s natural abilities - strength, speed, stamina, etc… - are enhanced greatly. She’s not quite at the skill level of her full bred father, but can hold her own quite well. Same goes for the senses, such as sight and hearing. It is not known if she can shift into a full wolf form yet, but her teeth and nails can extend into sharp fangs and claws and then retract to normal, and her eyes do change color like her father’s [her eye color changes to a crystal light blue]. Who they like better: Rex Who they take after more: Hailey Personal Head canon: When Hailey went into labor, Rex’s mother stayed by her side and coached her through the painful childbearing. Rylee was born while Rex was out on a patrol with his pack members, unfortunately missing the birth of his daughter, but only by a mere few minutes as Rex could hear the cries of his beloved even from a far distance and immediately raced back to be with her. He burst in just as Carolyn gave their newborn baby girl to Hailey to hold after cleaning and wrapping her in a warm blanket. As Rylee grows older, she and her parents would take walks along the edge of the den’s forests, not too far from home and Rylee would always ride on either Rex’s shoulders or on his back when he shifted into his wolf form. She’s a mini Hailey and Rex’s little girl - or ‘little pup’ as he affectionately calls her.
