would peter patrol on shabbat? how orthodox do u hc him to be if u dont mind me asking?
you come to me singing the song of my people and so I must answer
It depends.
Peter B doesn’t patrol on major holidays. He does the whole nine yards for Passover too, no bread, clean the house, light the candles for those who’ve passed, etc. etc. etc. He is also the kind of guy who never finishes his matzo; so like, all year he just keeps finding boxes of it stale as fuck and he eats it anyways because of self-loathing and laziness.
Blondie is the kind of Jew who remembers only when it’s either very convenient or very inconvenient for him that he’s Jewish. Kosher isn’t a thing until he’s with elders. Shavuot isn’t a thing until there is the promise of cheesecake.
Christmas is his kryptonite because he just fucking loves Santa, man. He also practices and immediately forgets major prayers when its his turn to say them. Really, his Jewish identity comes through his constantly feeling guilty that he’s not more religious.
Tats’s Jewish identity comes second in his belief system. First is witchcraft (which Ben didn’t approve of, not entirely because he was Jewish--although there was a twinge of that, what with him understanding Peter as a Jewish child and therefore not a person who should be practicing magic--but mostly because he was more of a science/facts/’May. I love you but where is our table under all these plants‘ kind of dude.)
After that complicated shit, Tats is light-light-light touch Jewish, where he is conscious of various traditions and VERY invested in maintaining community, but he’s not religious per se. He’s more culturally Jewish. He wouldn’t purposefully keep kosher and he’d patrol on pretty much any day of the week.
Pigeon and Crow Peter is pretty religious. He’s not orthodox, but he and May deeply considered getting two microwaves when theirs broke one time. Then they actually thought about it and went ‘yes, probably would be ideal, but also where the fuck are we gonna put it? We have negative counter space.’
P&C Peter goes to Temple at least once or twice a month and celebrates all major holidays with his community center. He doesn’t always join in with the social aspects of it, yeah, but he is around when they’re happening, even if he’s chilling out on the roof away from all the noise and bluster.
DFV Peter is culturally Jewish, but feels removed from the religion and culture because he wasn’t raised by his Jewish family. He often feels that he isn’t Jewish enough. He doesn’t use much Yiddish in his speech, he hasn’t been to a synagogue more than three or four times in his life. When Ben died and he was asked to cut and wear a ribbon, he didn’t really know why until May explained it to him.
DFV Peter is essentially still learning that he’s allowed to be Jewish.
So yeah. This is to say that most of the Peters would patrol on Shabbat, but some of them would give greater meaning to that than others.
