Moose's Guide to Quick and Easy Gold

So I get the vibes in the community here that a bunch of people don't really know all the tips and tricks to making easy money, so I thought I'd do a writeup on some of the small ways I make gold in Guild wars 2

Trick 1: You have wealth you don't know about

An inportant thing about Gw2 is that a lot of the wealth it gives out isn't in actual gold but in materials that you can then sell for gold. For a lot of people I think its easy to just click 'deposit all materials' and then forget about it. For me personally I have only 100 gold in my wallet but If I were to empty out my material storage I'd gain an additional 300 or so gold. The site GW2 efficiency is really helpful for telling you what high value items you might be holding on to, though It takes a bit of setting up.

Trick 2: Sell Orders!

Admittedly this is something I'm bad about, but if you can delay your gratification, but when you sell something don't fulfill someone elses buy order and instead, set up a sell order. I'll give you up to 10% more gold out of everything you sell

Ok now onto the acutal wealth generation methods

Trick 3: Send your least favorite character to the New Kaineng Jumping Puzzle

Jumping Puzzles in EoD reward jade runestones from their final chest, which go for 80 silver on the trading post.

Find the wiki page to get you through the jumping puzzle here, though there are often commanders on the New Kaineng lfg offering teleport to friend transport to the end of the puzzle. Basically you get a character to the end chest and every reset log in on that character and get your free! runestone, almost a gold for ~30 seconds of work

(as a note you only get the runestone once per day per account so don't send multiple characters there)

Trick 4: Leivas Hands out Gold, make sure to collect it

Ok not actually but he may as well. So this guy who hangs out in Arborstone, once you've gotten the Globalization mastery, will sell you 5 antique summoning stones every week for a grand total of 10 green prophet shards, 10 unusual coins, 100 imperial favours, 7000 karma and 1 gold. The summoning stones can then be sold on for ~3 gold each, netting you a profit of 14 gold for going up to an npc and pressing 'f' (or whatever your interact key is)

Trick 5: fast and profitable metas you should be doing daily

Let me introduce you to my favorite wiki page:

This lists out every meta event and world boss that'll be happening soon and all of them will give you at least something, and the meta's from HoT onwards awards you a hero's choice chest that'll contain at least one of these valuable materials to choose from: amalgamated gemstone (60 silver), jade runestone (80 silver), ancient ambergris (1 gold 70 silver) or an antique summoning stone (3 gold). It should be noted the last 3 only appear in the EoD meta's, for all other times choose the amalgamated gemstone.

With that aside there are 3 events in particular that you should try to get done that'll take 10 minutes or less

first up is the Legendary Ley-Line Anomaly, the naked man. The timer's page tells you which zone it'll spawn in and when it does you have to seek it out and murder it. Mounts are very recommended because this thing dies fast. Anyway when you kill it, it drops 2 things: a mystic coin (1 gold 20 silver) and some vendor trash worth 50 silver, pretty gold for 5 minutes of work

next is Dragonstorm. It happens once every 2 hours starting from the eye of the north and affords you the opportunity to beat up Ryland. If you join the public option you join a crowd of up to 50 other people and its easy enough that you could even afk if you wanted (though that would be very rude). Anyway once you murder the champions and blast the dragons you get to watch them share a passionate kiss as the die and you then get 2 gold straight up, 6 memories of aurene (worth 1.5 gold in total) as well as a chance to win the lottery and get ascended weapons or, even rarer, the very expensive eye infusions

Finally is Tequatl the Sunless, a world boss in Sparkfly Fen that awards you 1 gold straight up as well as a chance at an ascended weapon as well as a bunch of materials and unidentified gear

speaking of which all the other events give unidentified gear too and they aren't actually terrible rewards, you can get a pretty penny from selling them.

Trick 6: Daily Rewards

Firstly, just logging in every day gives you a sadly decent amount of income, mostly in laurels and mystic coins. Coins can just be sold if you're after cold, laurels can be spent on a variety of stuff. And if you're looking to turn a profit, HERE are the best ways to do so.

Also, do your daily achievements people, sometimes they're a pain but the daily completionist gives 2 gold as well as 15 achievement points, more than most other achievements in the game. Also they drive you towards content you wouldn't do otherwise (the daily achievements are the reason why I've done most of the jumping puzzles). Also If you're bad at any of the dailies on offer, usually a bunch of other people are also trying to do dailies and they're often willing to help. I see mesmers porting people through the daily JPs all the time.

Trick 7: Spirit shards can be converted to Gold???

I admit, this isn't something I do myself but if you're accumulating spirit shards like I am there are methods to turn them into gold

(again, this isn't something I've tried myself, I can't vouch for how well it works and all the methods require a starting amount of gold. But if you're desperate it might be something to consider

But I want more Gold, how do I get it?

If your looking for serious gold farming there are probably better guides than this but here are a few pointers to start raking in the money

1: As far as I understand, Drizzlewood Coast is the most profitable activity in the game, gold per hour wise. Runs take a while and you kind of have to pay attention to maximise gains but, if gold's what you want this is a good option.

2: Look for meta trains, I notice them happening a lot around reset, basically its a group that goes from meta to meta doing them in sequence. There are a few guilds that do them every day so if you see a train, chances are its on at the same time every day. I find them to be pretty chill, offer some nice variety in content and offer good rewards as well.

3: Fractals. Yeah I know this is getting into endgame content but doing T4 fractal dailies every day gives you around 20 gold straight up, a bunch of materials worth even more gold and a decent chance at ascended armor and weapons (and so many ascended trinkets, seriously at this point they get auto-salvaged if they drop)

Apart from that, pretty much everything in this game gives you some amount of rewards, even if they aren't entirely obvious, so don't stress too much, provided you aren't roleplaying in the serrated blade or whatever (Though good on you for having fun!) you're likely earning some amount of income. Even if it's only in materials

Fix 1: Clear your browser cache

Web browsers use cache and cookies to store information necessary to load a website, so that it effectively reduces the loading time. A: Domain Authority is something you need to know before you can advance to the second step of your SEO campaign which is keyword strategy and research. Domain Authority or DA is a number assigned to every site on the web ranging from 1-100 developed by MOZ, a marketing analytics company. This number tells you what your sites chances of ranking are. If you have a DA of 9, your chances aren’t looking so good but if your DA is around 50 or 60, search engines view your site as established and trustworthy and are more likely to rank you above other sites.

  You can check your site’s domain authority with a tool called MOZ or any other domain authority checker that you can find.  

Step 2 – Keyword Strategy and Research

Target keywords are the core of an SEO Campaign. What words come time mind when you think of your business? Pause and think about these words for a few minutes, you can even write them down if you want.

Now. Forget those keywords. Seriously. Most of the time business owners only think of what they would type into search engines to find their company. It is imperative that you think out of the box and think like a customer. We are going to show you how we do our keyword research to find keywords that can beat competitors and get you on your way to having the most profitable SEO campaign.

Begin by typing words into Google search and looking at suggestions. Let’s say you are selling tennis shoes. We don’t want to rank for the word “tennis shoes” because it is way too broad. In your SEO campaign you will want to have keywords that align with your business but are also within reach to rank for and are somewhat unique.

By typing in the word “tennis shoes” Google shows other suggestions of what other users have searched for. This can help you decide what you should try and go for.

Another helpful tool called Keywords Everywhere will make this process a lot easier. Usually when doing keyword research, you will be using Google AdWords keyword planner. This offers suggestions, shows you monthly search volume, CPC and competition.

With Keywords Everywhere you can see what words and phrases people are searching for on the web, how often they are searched, and their cost per click just like keyword planner. This is how you can get into your customers’ minds. It will help you pick out keywords that they are actually searching for.

You will also need to look at the keywords you are currently ranking for. This can be done with a program called SEMrush. In order to unlock the full potential of SEMrush you will need to pay for it, but there is a free version. With SEMrush you can pull your website’s current rankings. We like to look at how we can improve our clients keywords that they already rank for. You may already be ranking in the 8th or 9th position for a really important keyword so it’s imperative that you check your own rankings in addition to coming up with new words.

Using all of these tools, come up with a list of keywords that you think you would like to rank for. If you only have 8 keywords on this list you will need to go back and find some more. Chances are that half of these won’t work out. Depending on how many keywords you want to end up with, you should probably double or even triple that number when doing keyword research for your SEO campaign.

Once you have your list of keywords you will need to Google them. Look at the companies that come up. Look at their domain authority and what they are ranking for. Through this process you will need to determine if you can optimize your page better than they did, so that you can outrank them. Practice makes perfect when it comes to keyword research so if you feel lost, don’t hesitate to contact an SEO specialist.

Step 3 – On Page Optimization

Once you get through your keyword research you can jump right in to optimizing your site. Take a look at our SEO best practices checklist to check off each component as you build your SEO campaign.

First you will want to take some time to write out what pages align with your target keywords. If any of your target keywords do not have a page, you will want to create one. Sometimes you will have two keywords that are similar enough to go on the same page – this is perfectly fine as long as you can get these words on your page enough times without keyword stuffing.

Meta Description

Each of your pages will need to have a title and a meta description. Writing good titles and meta descriptions may seem challenging, but don’t stress. Here are some rules to follow.

Keep it short and sweet. If these are too long, Google will cut them off with the dreaded ellipses…no one wants that. Save yourself some embarrassment and write a concise title and meta description.

Use your keyword. You didn’t spend all that time doing keyword research for nothing. Your keyword needs to go in your title and it needs to go in your meta description. Do not have your title and meta look like this:

Clearly this is a bad title. There are no keywords and the company’s name is not even shown. The meta description is also lacking keywords and doesn’t make sense.

Make sure they make sense. Sometimes it can feel forced when you add your keyword into your meta description. If it feels like this, stop and start over. When human users read your description you want it to flow. Always double check your title and meta descriptions.

This is known as keyword stuffing, and Google doesn’t like it.  Over-use of your keyword may cause Google to view your website as spammy.

Instead of stuffing your focus keyword absolutely everywhere, here’s what I recommend

Choose one page on your website that you’d like to rank for your focus keyword (this may be your About page or your wedding planning service page).

On that page, write in-depth content that would be very useful to someone who searched and landed on that page (maybe include FAQs, pricing, links to your recent weddings).

Every time you mention “wedding planner in Tucson” in your blog posts or other content, link that phrase back to your in-depth page.

Stop putting your focus keywords in your blog titles (please).

2) Spammy Image Naming

Somewhere in SEO history, someone wrote an article that said you should include all sorts of keywords in your image names and alt tags to rank on Google.

Forcing keywords into image names may have worked in 2010, but it should be avoided today.

Google’s Search Engine Optimization Starter Guide specifies that you should use “brief, but descriptive filenames and alt text.“  They tell us to avoid “writing extremely lengthy filenames” and “stuffing keywords into alt text.“

When it comes to images, do:

Name them a brief name that describes what’s in the image

Make sure to include helpful alt text that also accurately, briefly describes what’s in the image.

Do not:

Title every image on your website “wedding-planner-tucson.jpg”

Write keyword-stuffed image titles like “best-wedding-planner-tucson-wedding-reception-at-west-hills-country-club.jpg”

3) Not Writing Enough Content

To rank in search engines and really help users, web pages need words.

I know the temptation is to just write a brief introduction to a wedding in your featured gallery or in a blog post, and then to include tons of images to tell the story.

Unfortunately, that doesn’t really help Google to know what your page is about and if they should rank it in search results.

Instead, write a longer post that introduces the couple, shares the details, explains why some of the decisions were made for venue and decor, explains your role in the planning and wedding day, and includes creative details.

I tell my clients to aim for at least 500 words per page or post, and bonus points if they can get it to 750-1000.  I know that is a ton of writing, but this will clearly differentiate your site as the most helpful and relevant.

4) Not Writing Meta Titles and Descriptions

If you want searchers to click on your website in search results, you have to make it interesting!

You do that first with your meta titles and descriptions.

These are the title and small paragraph that show in search results for your website.  

Did you know that you do have some control over these?  While Google will sometimes pull in other information on the page to show in search results, it will do that less if you write an engaging, unique title and description.

I recommend writing custom meta titles and descriptions for your home page, major inner pages, and key blog posts.

Where you enter these meta titles and descriptions depends on your website platform and how your website was built.  Either ask your web designer or search the help articles for your platform.

5) Over-Using Categories and Tags

The last most common mistake I see is the complete abuse of categories and tags on blog posts.

So many wedding planners think adding 30 similar tags to a blog post will help it rank. Unfortunately, this is another type of keyword stuffing. It’s spammy, and it should be avoided.

Instead, use categories and tags to actually group similar content together.  If the user wouldn’t want to click on a tag to see similar blog posts, the tag shouldn’t be used.

Here are a few examples of relevant, helpful blog tags:

Spring weddings

Weddings in downtown Tucson

Indoor weddings

LBGTQ weddings

Outdoor ceremonies

Overall, the goal in today’s SEO is to provide helpful content for your visitor.  It is not to stuff keywords everywhere or use your target keyword the most.  If you keep your website visitor and what they need top-of-mind, you are likely to win in both search engine rankings and in inquiries.

The best iPhone for every type of person and budget

Apple's iPhone lineup has grown to include three new phones: the iPhone X, the iPhone 8, and the iPhone 8 Plus. The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus are already available to buy in stores, but the iPhone X goes up for pre-order on October 27 at 12 a.m. PST/3 a.m. EST. So which one should you buy?

There are so many options now it can seem overwhelming when it comes time to choose the right iPhone for you. We break it down so you know exactly which iPhone to buy for your needs and budget. We also tell you which ones to avoid at all costs so you don't end up paying hundreds of dollars for a three-year-old iPhone that is already obsolete.

Why should you listen to me? I've personally reviewed every iPhone since the iPhone 6 in a professional capacity as a tech writer and editor. Before that, I owned an iPhone 3GS and an iPhone 5, so I have run the gamut, so to speak.

Here are some key things to know before you decide which iPhone to buy:

Processor and RAM: The processor and RAM are the two most important parts of any phone. They determine how smoothly it runs and works through intense tasks like gaming or multitasking. The newer your iPhone, the better the processing power and RAM. That's why we recommend you buy the most recent iPhone models and we don't recommend any iPhones from three years ago.

Storage space: Storage is also incredibly important because the amount of storage you have determines how many photos, songs, videos, and apps you can have downloaded on your phone. Never buy a 16GB iPhone — you will run out of space and regret it. 32GB is okay for most people, but if you take a lot of photos, have tons of songs or videos downloaded, or you're an app junkie, you will want 64GB, 128GB, or 256GB of storage. Unfortunately, adding storage costs money.

Screen size: iPhones come in several screen sizes now: 4 inches (iPhone SE), 4.7 inches (iPhone 6, 6S, 7, 8), 5.5 inches (iPhone 6 Plus, 6S Plus, 7 Plus, 8 Plus), and 5.8 inches (iPhone X). Phones with small screen sizes have smaller physical bodies, which are easier to hold. The iPhone Plus line is the largest phone to hold even though the screen size is smaller than it is on the iPhone X. The iPhone X is physically a tad bigger than the iPhone 6, 6S, 7, or 8, so it's very comfortable to hold. The iPhone SE is the smallest iPhone you can buy now.

Battery life: Most iPhones don't have great battery life. The smaller the iPhone, the worse the battery life. The Plus has the best battery life of any iPhone, but the iPhone X may also do well — It needs testing first, but Apple claims it's longer than the iPhone 7's battery life.

Ports (or lack thereof): All iPhones have a lighting port for charging, but the iPhone 7, 7 Plus, 8, 8 Plus, and iPhone X all lack the 3.5mm headphone jack. That means you can't plug your headphones in unless you use the adapter or the earbuds that come with your new iPhone. We recommend you get a nice pair of wireless headphones and live happily ever after.

Software: Apple provides updates to its iPhones for about four years after their release, so theoretically, you can have your iPhone safe and up to date for four years before you should buy a new one. Always update your software to get important security patches and new features. You may experience slowdown on older devices, but iPhones typically hold up well.

Price: Consider your purchase an investment. Your smartphone is more than a communication device — It is your camera, your computer, your photo album, your record player, and your gaming console, too. A good smartphone can last you for years, but a cheap one with poor specs will be outdated more quickly, and you'll end up spending more in the long run. That $1,000 price tag on the iPhone X looks less scary when you consider that it could last you for four years. 

How to buy: You can get an iPhone from your carrier by paying full price or paying in monthly installments. You can also buy one at stores like Target or directly from Apple. We recommend you buy it from Apple unlocked so you can switch carriers any time you choose. The Apple iPhone Upgrade Program lets you get a new iPhone every year so long as you've made 12 monthly payments on your current phone. It's basically like renting your smartphone so you can upgrade all the time. Some carriers, like T-Mobile, offer a similar program.

Here's who should (and shouldn't) upgrade, and which iPhone we recommend for you:

If you have an iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus: You don't need to upgrade at all. If you're a tech geek with no self-control, buy the iPhone X.

If you have an iPhone 6S or 6S Plus: You don't really need to upgrade yet, either, but if you want to, get the iPhone X, iPhone 8 Plus, or the iPhone 8.

If you have an iPhone 6 or 6 Plus: You deserve an upgrade. These phones are starting to stutter a bit and won't last much longer. You may as well grab an iPhone X, iPhone 8 Plus, or the iPhone 8. 

If you have an iPhone 5S: You don't just deserve an upgrade, you deserve a medal. You made your phone last four years. If you're going to do that again, treat yourself and get the iPhone X. It'll be like blasting off to a new planet.

Tech geek? Join the Apple iPhone Upgrade Program. You'll basically rent your phone with monthly payments, and you can upgrade to a new one after 12 payments. Why you'll love it: The iPhone X is cutting-edge with its giant OLED screen, super fast processor, facial recognition, and killer cameras.

Make no mistake — This is the iPhone to buy. If you have the money, you're already in the iPhone upgrade program, or you can snag a good deal from your carrier, you'll want the iPhone X. It may cost $1,000, but this is the most high-tech iPhone to date. Of course, we're not all tech geeks, so although this is the iPhone lover's dream phone, it may not be the best phone for the average person.

That said, it's the iPhone we recommend above all others. It is a giant leap forward in terms of technology. The stunning OLED screen measures 5.8-inches and it takes up the entire front of the phone. The result is a sexy phone that's all screen and fits comfortably in your hand. Unlike the iPhone 8 Plus, it's a manageable size to hold, because it's only a bit larger than the iPhone 7. Both the back and front of the phone are covered in glass, so be sure to pop a case on for protection and grip.

As usual, the cameras are impressive. You can use the DSLR-like Portrait mode with both the front and back cameras. The dual cameras on the back of the phone support zoom and wide-angle shots, too. One of the coolest tricks Apple pulled off with the iPhone X is facial recognition for Face ID, the phone's new method for secure unlocking and payments. Your phone will recognize your face and it can't be fooled by masks, makeup, hats, glasses, or other changes.

The A11 Bionic processor is lightning fast and benchmark results show that it is nearly as powerful as a laptop computer. Apple also started storage off at 64GB, which is excellent. Tech geeks will want to go up to 256GB, but most of us will be happy with 64GB. It's also got wireless charging and water resistance. 

Pros: Gorgeous design, huge OLED screen, no bezels, wireless charging, portrait mode on both front and back cameras, fast processor, facial recognition to unlock

Why you'll love it: The iPhone 8 Plus is the best iPhone for most people because it's less expensive but nearly as powerful as the iPhone X.

If you can't justify the $1,000 price tag of the X, but you still want the dual cameras, the fast processor, and a big screen, the iPhone 8 Plus is the phone you need. It may not have facial recognition or the fancy portrait mode camera on the front, but it is still an excellent device.

It looks pretty much like the iPhone 7 Plus, so it's a large phone with a big 5.5-inch screen. The only real design change is that the iPhone 8 Plus has a glass back to allow for wireless charging. You'll want to put a case on it to prevent damage and add extra grip – especially since it's a large phone physically. The Touch ID fingerprint sensor is still on the front of the phone and continues to act as a home button.

The dual cameras on the back offer zoom, wide angle, and Portrait mode, so it will take excellent photos that are slightly better than the ones you'd get from the iPhone 7 Plus.
