Significance of Montessori Education in Early Childhood
Tumblr media
What is exactly a Montessori Education?
Montessori Education is a child-centric educational approach that values the human essence and development of the children as a whole together with physical, social, emotional and cognitive development. A magnificent and revolutionary method of teaching and learning introduced by Maria Montessori, which has changed the face of education all across the world and is now in practice for more than a century. Montessori early education method cultivates children’s natural curiosity and emphasizes their independence, individuality and freedom.
Who is Maria Montessori?
Dr. Maria Montessori was a fierce Italian woman born on August 31, 1870,  in Chiaravalle, Italy. She was a philosopher, educator and the first woman to graduate from the University of Rome Medical School. She had traveled the world and attracted many followers with her extensive writings about her approach to education. Following her medical training, she started developing her educational philosophy and methods in the year 1897 while attending pedagogy courses and learning education theories. Maria Montessori believes that a child’s development begins from birth and emphasizes the need for concrete objects to awaken the senses of a child. This practice can now be seen through mainstream educational philosophy and classroom practices.
What is the significance of Montessori Education in Early Childhood?
Montessori Education in early childhood plays a tremendous role in the social, mental and even physical build-up of a child. How? Here are some pointers that will comprehensively explain the significance of Montessori Education.
Dr. Maria Montessori wrote “The most important period of life is not the age of university studies, but the first one, the period from birth to the age of six. For that is the time when man's intelligence itself, his greatest implement is being formed. But not only his intelligence; the full totality of his psychological powers… At no other age has the child a greater need of intelligent help, and any obstacle that impedes his creative work will lessen the chance he has of achieving perfection." Montessori education fosters potential in the kids to become competent, responsible and respectful citizens while appreciating and valuing the idea that learning is for life as they step out in the world. Its significance is:
Whole Development of Child- Montessori education is a concept that focuses on the development of the child as a whole, characterwise as well as academically. Allowing the cognitive, physical, creative and socio-emotional growth of the child.
A child is valued as a unique individual- Every child has different needs and possesses different interests which are unique to her/her, with Montessori education children are given a free environment where they learn at their own pace with the things they are actually interested in doing with the guidance of a teacher and a personalized learning plan. This enables children to not only learn but develop a love for learning.
Develops order, coordination, concentration and independence at an early age- A child has the potential to develop abilities to educate oneself and think about the things he/she is learning. Montessori education supports a child’s emerging self-regulation through classroom designs, materials and daily routines which are offered by KidzVille Learning Centre, a Montessori Preschool in surrey.
Creates a supported environment for children- Children become active seekers of knowledge with the supported environment. KidzVille Learning Centre is a Montessori Daycare in surrey which caters to an environment that gives freedom and the right tools to the children which helps them to pursue answers to their own questions.
Contribute to freedom within limits- Children work within the parameters set by the teachers, and yet have the freedom to decide their focus of learning. A child’s curiosity is driven by the internal satisfaction of doing something, Kidzville Preschool in Surrey follows the same notion and provides kids learning which is joyful and sustainable.

John’s Foreword as of November 2017
On October 10th of 2001, I was born John Buenavides in Vancouver to a secretary full of will and a humble cook. My early years were spent either in an apartment by the Fraser River in New Westminster or in the nearby hospital to deal with my severe asthma. Either way, both places were welcoming homes to me as moments were never dull nor lonely with all my loving family members, my bubbly personality, and nurses/doctors. Life was at its peak for me despite the asthma whether that be at school, during my free time, going to a Christian daycare, or visiting the hospital constantly. Between school and being at home, my older brother who was in high school and my working mother would take turns looking after my older sister and I, then soon my younger brother. Luckily New West is littered with places to go and things to go. I found myself spending more time in the library, parks, Quay (Fraser River boardwalk), mall, at the post-secondary being taught by students how to clean and play pool, and strolling the aesthetic streets then being at home.  As of now it is demolished, but before 2009 I attended John Robson Elementary School and fitted in quite easily due to everyone’s naive openness and already being familiar with a small handful of children via Little Lambs (the Christian daycare). Being my first school, it ruined my stereotype of a school portrayed by movies and TV whether that be by never failing to have a caring and compassionate staff or by never letting classes become dull. Sadly, in the November of 2009 prices for the apartment rose and we had to find a new place as soon as possible. We landed in the neighboring city on the other side of the Fraser River, Surrey. My older sister and younger brother attended Harold Bishop Elementary School. Everything was pretty dull for both school and home life despite delivering newspapers, joining the leadership team, winning a citizen award, being the freakishly passionate child, being average in every subject, joining choir, and joining sport teams. My theory is that it was what it was because John Robson set my standard for schools too high. The only exceptions to this was the adorably chubby Asian toddler that I babysat and the friendly neighboring children. For the rest of my Elementary life, my family and I came to the conclusion that I have anger management problems. Evidence came from my sudden triggering, blind rages, and when I defeated my bullies not with the intention of stopping them but in the means of hurting them. Yet the best thing that came to me in Elementary were comics from the library, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and an admiration for anything prose. From books to theater plays, I loved the telling of tales and the purposes they served. The transition to high school was surprisingly not intimidating as I knew a fair share of people and I had a positive connection to every clique and splice of cliques. My grades in secondary were surprisingly twice as better as the ones from elementary and I slowly leaned towards loving school again before all of this was shot down in the tenth grade onward. From ninth grade I took part in debate club, a choir, a charity organization, and most importantly a theater company. Performing arts soon became my clique while I still had a connecting string to the masses. The year my grades slipped (the exceptions being in English, P.E., and Mathematics) was the same year I slipped into my first real job. At the time I was fourteen so my dream companies like Hot Topic, EB Games, and the Disney store did not hire me. There was only one place that did accept me; that place being McDonald’s. At McDonald’s I work in the kitchen and doing weekly stock up. Within this time, I became inspired from television and movie characters to become more meek and make the most out of life. That is the reason why I am either so pumped that it feels unauthentic or as poised as Colin Firth in a meeting room. Looking back, the things that I am most proud of are those small yet impact-full leaps of faith made out of the blue in bland and still moments that landed me my current position. That should wrap up this foreword.
