General info: this prompt was born because I discovered Val was God&Moses' voice in The Prince of Egypt and I used to watch it a tones when I was a kid. But the only version I know isn't in English so idk if recognising Val's voice is as immediate as make it to be.
On the note: I don't know if they had the movie in the cinema or not? But i'm taking poetic licence about all of it. Bradley was born in '82, the movie was out in '98 and I don't know who old Amelia was so I put 14, sorry?
(1998.)
The movie, cartoon?, is out the summer both him and Ice are home and even if Bradley is already sixteen the promise of burger and fries takes him out of the house faster than any jet they have ever flown.
The protection is okay Mav thinks but if it wasn't for Ice he would have never choose some like that to see. But it was some way comforting, expecially the voice of Moses, and of God he presums, and when he rises the point over dinner Bradley says yeah, he sounded a lot like da-uncle Tom and love if you took up a second job you should have said something!
Ice had laugh, you're already a second and a full time job Mav, I wouldn't have time for anything not even if I want.
(What he will always remember of that night is Bradley laughing and hugging them both together and Ice's kisses while they were falling asleep.)
(2022.)
Tom's voice wakes him up, eyes open even before his brain can register he's awake. Tom? he asks but what welcomes him is silence and twelves aviators staring at him. Sorry pop, a couple of them never saw the movie and I forgot one of the voice was so similar to dad. Yeah, yeah he forgot too. No harm done Bradley, I'm going to bed. Goodnight guys. The interaction isn't longer than a minute and half so nobody has the time to react.
He falls asleep in an empty bed, on Ice side, with a voice so similar to his husband that feels like a blessing and a torture at the same time.
(2023.)
In one of his recordings Ice talks for hours about The Principe of Egypt, the study behind it and the importance of that collaboration. Mav never really cared about stuff like that but Ice talks and talks, Mav wears one of his old hoodies and he's back in the diner in 1998, Bradley is sixteen and they're fingers are linked under the table.
Amelia is 14 and screams at her mother she doesn't need a babysitter, doesn't matter if she actually likes Maverick! Penny smiles at him, kisses his cheek, thank you for tonight Mav, I own you one she says and she is really beautiful in her dress. Your date is gonna be a lucky one tonight before adding no problem, I like spending time with her.
It takes him almost two hours to convince Amelia to come down for dinner, didn't know you knew how to cook!, and a movie. The Prince of Egypt is on Netflix and Amelia puts it on without asking because I read cool reviews of this and I want to see something old but not too much. Mav smiles and he's repeating was Ice told him years ago and on tape to Amelia. The only moments he really shuts up is when God or Moses are speaking. He enjoys it and Amelia goes along beautifully. She even falls asleep on his shoulder a quarter to eleven and he almost breaks his back trying, and succeeding, to take her to bed.
Then he falls asleep on the couch, because damn if he's tired, the spot he is sitting particularly soft and the movie is still going on with its ending scenes. The music is like a lullaby that takes him back and back and Tom's voice is a warm hug that makes him want to follow whevenever he leads. He falls asleep and dreams of telling all the things he shared with Amelia to Bradley and the others, the spot on their couch not as empty as it is and his husband by his side.
