WITHIN THE PROJECT METANOIA VERSE ,  tahir is early on under the belief that his time within the institution is his parents trying to rewire him into the son they want. it takes him a good while to see that what he is in is actually quite separate from them and  once the body modifications start to take hold he becomes terrified of himself.  and his thoughts are working at a speed and processing things at such a degree  he is left with great and constant migraines , while his physical body is turning to iron and causing him to lose the sensation of touch. he is really desperate to get out and is even willing to go back to his parents. in the verse i age him to be around 20-23 which were some of the hardest times in his life as his parents in my official canon have died a thing that vibrates into this au as well.

It was technically already afternoon, but time seemed nonexistent to this windowless lab. Nevertheless, morning always seemed like the more pleasant time of day, something the subject in front of her might like to hear. Anything to keep them compliant, the doctors would always say, and they would probably have to be compliant with this tray of pale scrambled eggs and slightly-burnt toast.

    “Brought you some breakfast. The      most important meal of the day!”

The sound of the clock ticking away the seconds is almost deafening; he doesn’t like being in this office. Shifting uncomfortably in his seat, his hands pressed flat against the arms of the chair to stop himself from fidgeting, and Ben is refusing to raise his gaze up to meet the other. Nothing good can come of this meeting, he is almost sure of it. Different scenarios play out in his mind, and all of them end badly. “Hey, Marko. I got you something --- ”        his voice is low, eyes dart down the hall to make sure the other guard further down the hall is not listening. For someone who decided to take, or more importantly keep, a job in such a facility, Ben certainly has a soft spot for the patients. Reaching a hand into the pocket of his pants, he’s pulling out a chocolate bar that he managed to snatch from the guard’s break room without anyone noticing. Gin wouldn't even know where tobegin when it came to how unfit he was for social situations.When she comes to him for comfort, he is unsure... unsure ifhe is the right person for her to come to, unsure ofwhat to even do. Generally, he would advice anyone againstit.

Yet, when he notices her tearsand desperation for physical contact, his body moves on its own. Ginwrapped his arms around her and held her protectively against him. Itfelt right. The heat of her powers radiating from her doesn'thurt his leathery skin and instead creates a comfortable warmth.

“I'm here,” Gin promises“You're not hurting me. And I won't let anyone hurt you.”

At least for now, and forhowever long they would manage to stick together, they would be safe.

There was a soft knock on the door. From what she’d been told, she was sent in to take them back to their cage cell after testing was done. It was the first time she’d even been near the testing rooms, so she wasn’t sure what to expect.

The thing about Katie was, that she tried her hardest not to show any sort of emotion. Especially at work. She was supposed to be here to do her job, not to necessarily talk too much or cry about anything.

But damn, who wouldn’t be afraid of a mess like this?

Claw marks scattered the test room walls, as did blood and other things she really wished she didn’t recognize. All she wanted to admit was that it definitely belonged to one of the more seasoned orderlies.                                          [ this could have been you, katie! ]                                 August’s voice reached her ears, but it still took her a moment to process what had been said. With a deep breath, she turned her brain back on and wiped her eyes dry. No time for that bullshit.

    “Y-you…okay?”

The subjects, despite what they went through, were the top priorities. As much as her body was screaming to run, she had to make sure August wasn’t a danger to herself.
