SPN RP Inquiry
Alright, so - recently we (my wife and I) were given a kindly invitation from a good bean to join an SPN RP. Unfortunately, that RP uses Second Life, which lags like ass on my computer and makes hers have a meltdown and, in the long and short of it, I think we may end up having to politely withdraw despite our interest and the fantastic effort put into advanced design by the industrial thinkers on the project. (If your computer can handle it, check out the Second Life game by sakryh on twitter. Cuz they’re a good bean and I’m not here to steal their thunder.)
On the other hand, it’s re-ignited her nostalgia for our old game, which ran several years. Ironically, many of our ideas that we used from years back were echoed by the show later, which some of you have heard me prattle on about. She misses writing and engaging, she misses group RP, she just... misses it.
So she’s currently putzing around the idea of making a Discord server to launch an SPN RP on. We’re considering our exact boot point, and are considering a late season 12/early season 13 variant, lightly canon divergent with a few negotiated details intended for maximum potential engagement, and maybe ironing out a few BuckLeming’ed details by the show to see if we can... fix... things...
The ultimate question is:
Who here would be interested in joining?
There’s a few base rules I do know for certain:
Castiel will only ever be GM-run because he can be the ultimate plot breaker. He will be given to one GM only and otherwise handled like a PC, and -- sorry Cas stans -- narratively nerfed to fit the story’s current threshold.
Sam and Dean potential candidates will require a bit of testing and discussion to make sure you understand how their heads work and how their narratives balance, we want something that’s canon compliant and balanced, while still being engageable to most players (within reason of the characters).
Be DeanCas friendly but not uncontrollably DeanCas trash. Destiel will not be started in any sort of canon state beyond what level the show is perceptively at and that balance should be mindfully kept.
OCs are allowed. We’re willing to work with you on them within reason. Sam and Dean’s players must also be willing to work with OCs if they have basic “hunter friend from wherever” backstories like the show has habitually retconned in.
OCs will not be allowed to be the super duper ultra secret fifth winchester or something like that. Powers will be reviewed in advance to make sure they’re in show balance.
Monsters etc will have to earn their respect the same as the show and won’t get a free friendly player pass, and creating a character like that is sort of accepting an agreement that you’ll probably catch shit from hunters.
Jack I’m still up in the air on how to handle him similarly to Cas, powers-minded, as letting new players run around with the All Powered Nougat Bar can really break a story if not executed carefully. This wasn’t a thing to consider in our old game, and I’m willing to listen to a new playerbase on how to handle it.
If you’re interested, please join this discord server. It’s still raw, literally nothing’s been set up beyond a few basic rooms and permissions, so it’s still in formulative phases and come in expecting that, but we also work quick if we have interest. Just know this is two experienced SPN GMs.
Other:
Our style is “lit”, which basically is like para, but without mandatory “you must post this long every time or u sux”, if it only needs a few lines, it only needs a few lines and if it needs ample description, go for it.
People suited well to this are meta readers, meta-writers, or meta-adjacent, or just people who understand the show’s narrative structure and balance well.
Bitter stans are probably gonna be just as bitter here so I’d rather pass.
Basically consider it an open playground to expand on the show while running parallel to it and exploring characters or ideas.
If we get the interest, expect frequent case prompts for MOTWs designed to tie into stories, but we’ll also take suggestions or even let people run their own (just fly it by us first to make sure there’s no conflict in story, but we’re pretty lax about that)
All of the above minded, pretty much all canons are currently available with the marked exclusion of Cas from the list, and Jack hanging in a state of entropy while we figure out specifics of handling.
Think of it more like interactive fanfic than D&D.
