Hello! It's your HEX gifter here. I've received your requests and am very intrigued by them. Before I start creating my gift, I have a couple questions- 1) I'd love to know more about how you see young Luna's characterization before she became Queen, ie. her time at Alfea. How did her and Farah become friends and then something... more? 2) In the pairings of Saul/Andreas, Beatrix/Stella and Luna/Farah, which of the pair makes the first move?
Awaiting your answers patiently, dear Hex-ee!
Hello !! ✨
I was SO pleased to receive your ask! Your questions are so good, I had to give it some good thought before answering, thank you so much for them!
Now that I’m done typing my answer, I realise the need to add a “read more under the cut” thing because lord did I get carried away! I’m so sorry, but thank you so much for the questions, it was a really nice opportunity to just think about all this! 😁
To answer your first question, I’ve always seen Luna as being a bit reckless and mischievous in her youth. In a striking contrast with the cold manipulative monarch she had to/chose to become. I love the idea that as she was crowned Queen of Solaria, the weight of responsibility and the imperative to play these political games represented a real rupture with who she used to be. And I’m not saying that she’s not enjoying these games or didn’t choose to follow the rules, she did, and if there’s one thing we know for sure about Luna it’s that she loves power. I just enjoy the idea that now, power is all she has because she had to sacrifice so much to get there (her past friends), she doesn’t know how to be anything else than the manipulative greedy control freak queen she’s become (hence her abusive relationship with her daughter).
Back to how I think she was before and not how she is during canon-time!
Reckless and mischievous, so, but only with those she trusts. She still has a reputation to maintain, and just like Stella is an extension of who she is, she was an extension of her mother, and I assume the obsession with keeping up appearances didn’t suddenly start with Luna. So, as a teenager, she had to handle being the perfect daughter, perfect student, perfect future heir, with her desire for more freedom and less burdening duties.
In my mind, she was pretty competitive, especially with Farah. We know Farah is a very powerful fairy, and it’s easy to guess Luna is too. When I was doing some thinking about their time at Alfea, considering what we learn about Rosalind in S2 and her teaching methods, I thought it would make sense if Rosalind had given both of them private lessons, using them against each other as she was feeding an unhealthy competition for her validation.
So, to me, Farah and Luna’s dynamic had to start with a rivalry to make sense with the scenes we had in S1 with Luna abusing her authority to prove Farah wrong (which truly felt like a 3 years old move, she was just missing the blowing raspberries part for it to be perfect!). Especially because from what we see of Farah, she’s very reserved, doesn’t trust easily (although that could just be the result of Rosalind’s years of abuse and she might have been super extraverted as she was younger…), has very strong opinions based on her core values, I can’t imagine a setting in which she could have enjoyed Luna’s company from the get-go. Or at least, her public persona. But as they’re facing Rosalind’s abuse together, they get to see another aspect of each other. They’re companions of misery, in some way, the only one they can trust to understand what it is like to be abused by Rosalind for the sake of becoming more powerful.
That’s dark though… I’m a bit of an angsty person, some could absolutely confirm this!
But yes, I think they became friends eventually, when they first tried to regain some power over their lives. You know, a bit as a fuck you to Rosalind. You tried to make us hate each other so you could use this hatred against us? Well, too bad! And from that point, they get to discover each other better, behind the surface of what is shown to the rest of the world.
But then, I don’t have an idea on how they might have fallen in love. Perhaps it happens just like that and eventually one of them realised it was more than friendship. I love the idea that their friends (Saul, Ben, Andreas, why not Rose) all knew and kept teasing them about it but they were two idiots stuck in denial.
And now, to answer your second question, before my answer to the first one was awfully long, I am VERY sorry about this but I’ve done a lot of thinking about Luna and her past. Just to give you an idea, I had a timeline that went back to her grandfather’s coronation in 1943 just so I could work out some details on her mother’s characterisation…
So, the second question ! I’ve been trying to decide which one of these three pairs is easier for me to start answering for a good five minutes now and that’s not going well.
I think for Saul/Andreas, it would most likely be Andreas because Saul and his “soldiers live alone” speech could hint at the fact he accepted this truth for quite some time and I can easily imagine him being 100% fine with just pinning in silence.  Also because I think Saul would be a big overthinker and it could paralyse him more often than not, while Andreas seems more like an act first, think later kind of guy.
Stella/Beatrix, I can easily imagine something like they both prepared something for the other, for a big declaration, around the same time which will lead to them arguing over and over again about who made the first move. But it was probably Stella because behind Beatrix’s supposed self-confidence, we see how insecure she is. And Stella would probably go out of her way to make her feel loved. And even when she’s being a bit cheesy, Beatrix secretly adores it!
Which leaves me with Farah/Luna and, really, I have no idea. None of them strike me as being romantic in a cheesy kind of way so I don’t think any of them would make a big thing of making the first move. I just can’t tell if any of them would be shy about it, or bold, who would be brave enough to make the first move… I don’t think I can come up with something here!
After quite a long answer, I’d be really curious to know what your answers to your second question would be! 😁
Thanks again for the great questions!!
I hope you had/are having a nice day! ❤️
