Sometimes I wonder if Star Trek really became less Star Trek because science started to become more well known.

Like during the 1960s the idea of going to a planet full of gangsters was Wild but also possible?! To the average person. (The undereducated American that is)

Now it’s like “space is vast, cold and unfeeling” and that’s actually reflected in the filming. It’s like the writers forgot that the exploration of space was about possibility. To some extent that’s probably why they keep moving backwards in their shows and why anything forward feels nihilistic.

Or maybe it’s midnight and this was the last thing I decided to post while half asleep…

#star trek #also I’ve not seen snw #but it’s like every trek show inevitably tries to be a ‘trek show’ and in doing so fails #when they decide to write stories that have meaning and merit and a point to them? #when they decide it’s okay to have fun and funny characters? #when they go ‘okay but what if!!!’ #that’s when it feels the most like a trek show #like people talk about how ds9 is the Pinnacle of trek #and I get it but they were also the first to really try and ongoing plot line which was a newer concept of the time #y’all forget that what made ‘sitcoms’ and weekly shows nice was the consistency #like man me and my friends have a hard time not knowing what to watch because we binge things and run out of episodes then we are left with #this desire to watch something we already feel comfortable with but also the desire to watch something ‘new’ because that’ll bring more #seritonin #yes characters should grow and change and be like real people #but hear me out… what if they didn’t? #what if they were just characters and they stayed stagnant and every time I saw them I knew what to expect?! #what if every episode I didn’t have to worry about them changing or becoming something new or different or hating their character arch??? #I’m rambling #i need sleep #sorry if this weird and you’ve read the tags to this point #please have a good night and sleep well #💜
