the vast majority of lgbt media is the same, tired story of a gay awakening/internalized homophobia/coming out. and the vast majority of THOSE pieces of media end right after the main character finally finds their Love Interest. but… then what? everyone knows that coming to terms with your sexuality and coming out can be hard without watching Another show about it. and as someone who has been secure with her sexuality for years and years, constantly being thrown back into media that centers fear and anxiety and instability is such a fucking drag. why don’t we get to see what comes AFTER all that? why don’t we get to see stable, healthy, mundane relationships that happen to be lgbt, chosen family that don’t bat an eye, found friends? you can’t sell kids the message that “it gets better” if you refuse to SHOW them what that looks like.
