“And I am fully certain that He has the ability to protect what I have placed in His care until that day.

Remember the words that you heard from me. Retain them as the model for healthy and sound teaching in the faith and love that are available in Jesus the Anointed. As for the precious thing entrusted to you, protect it with the help of the Holy Spirit who dwells within us.”

Today’s reading of the Scriptures from the New Testament is the 1st chapter of the Letter of 2nd Timothy:

Paul, an emissary of Jesus the Anointed commissioned by God’s will according to the promise of life found only in Jesus the Anointed, to you, my dear child Timothy.

May grace, mercy, and peace from God our Father and our Lord Jesus the Anointed be yours.

Timothy, you are constantly in my prayers. Day and night I remember you before God and give thanks to Him whom I serve with a clean conscience, as did my ancestors. I really want to see you, especially when I remember how you cried the last time we were together. Yes, I know it would make me joyful to see you again. What strikes me most is how natural and sincere your faith is. I am convinced that the same faith that dwelt in your grandmother, Lois, and your mother, Eunice, abides in you as well. This is why I write to remind you to stir up the gift of God that was conveyed to you when I laid my hands upon you. You see, God did not give us a cowardly spirit but a powerful, loving, and disciplined spirit.

So don’t be embarrassed to testify about our Lord or for me, His prisoner. Join us in suffering for the good news by the strength and power of God. God has already saved us and called us to this holy calling—not because of any good works we may have done, but because of His own intention and because eons and eons ago (before time itself existed), He gave us this grace in Jesus the Anointed, the Liberating King. And now, the time has come! That grace was revealed when our Savior, Jesus the Anointed, appeared; and through His resurrection He has wiped out death and brought to light life and immortality by way of this good news. I was appointed a preacher, emissary, and teacher of this message. This is exactly why I am suffering. But I am not ashamed because I know Him and I have put my trust in Him. And I am fully certain that He has the ability to protect what I have placed in His care until that day.

You may know by now that all those in Asia have turned their backs on me, including Phygelus and Hermogenes. But Onesiphorus was not ashamed of my chains. So when he arrived in Rome, he searched for me and found me. May the Lord show mercy to his house because he has often stopped by to refresh my weary soul. And may the Lord shower him with divine mercy on the last day. You are well aware of all he did to serve me in Ephesus.

The Letter of 2nd Timothy, Chapter 1 (The Voice)

Today’s paired chapter of the Testaments is the 33rd chapter of the book of Jeremiah that points to the coming King of kings:

For a second time the message of the Eternal came to Jeremiah as he was being held in the court of the guard. The Eternal who made the earth, who formed and fashioned it, the One whose name is the Eternal, has this to say:

Eternal One: Call to Me, and I will answer you. I will tell you of great things, things beyond what you can imagine, things you could never have known. I, the Eternal God of Israel, tell you that all these public buildings and royal palaces have been dismantled in vain. You thought you could strengthen the city walls with the scraps of those buildings, but it is a useless defense against the siege ramps and swords of the Chaldeans. In this fight, the city will be filled with the dead whom I will destroy in My anger and wrath, for I have hidden My face from this city because of their wickedness. Nevertheless, keep watching! I will restore this city and heal the wounds of My people. I will lavish them with peace and stability. I will bring both Judah and Israel back from captivity, and I will rebuild their land to what it was before. I will cleanse them from all the sins they committed against Me and forgive all the wrongs they have done and all the ways they rebelled against Me. Jerusalem will have a sweet-sounding name once again. The good I do for her will bring Me joy, praise, and honor among all nations of the earth, for they will be in awe and tremble at the peace and prosperity I give to this city.

Listen to Me, Jeremiah. You say this place will become a desolate wasteland with no people and no animals, but it will not always be so. The towns of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem may indeed become lifeless, but I, the Eternal One, promise you the silence will be broken. Once again you will hear the sounds of laughter and joy, the sweet words of the bride and bridegroom at a wedding, and voices of those who bring thank offerings to the temple singing,

Give thanks to the Eternal, Commander of heavenly armies,

for He is good. His faithful love endures forever.

All of this will happen because I will restore the riches of this land to what they once were.

I, the Eternal, Commander of heavenly armies, promise: even this desolate place—with no people and no animals—and all of its ruined cities will once again have pastures where shepherds will rest their flocks. In the towns of the hill country, in the villages of the western hills, in the cities of the Negev, in the territory of Benjamin, in the vicinity around Jerusalem, and in the cities of Judah, once again flocks will be cared for by a faithful shepherd who will count each and every one of his sheep.

Look! The days are coming when I will fulfill the promise I made to the people of Israel and Judah. In those days, when the time is right, I will cause a righteous Branch to sprout from the old stump of David’s lineage; He will do what is right and just in the land. In those days, Judah will be liberated, and Jerusalem will live in safety. And the city will be called by His name, The Eternal Is Our Righteousness. I tell you, the royal dynasty of David will not cease; the throne of Israel still belongs to his family. Remember this, even as other kings rule over you. Remember also that the line of Levitical priests will not cease; for all time they will stand before Me offering burnt offerings, grain offerings, and making sacrifices.

Again, the word of the Eternal came to Jeremiah.

Eternal One: If you can figure out a way to break My covenant with the day and with the night so they do not always arrive on schedule, the very rhythm of life on this earth, only then will My covenant with My servant David be broken and his son not rule from his throne. Only then will My covenant with the Levitical priests who minister before Me be null and void. I will make David’s descendants, along with the Levitical priests who minister before Me, so numerous they will seem like the stars of the skies that cannot be counted and the sands of the seashore that can never be measured.

The word of the Eternal came to Jeremiah again.

Eternal One: Have you noticed what some people are saying? “The Eternal chose these two families, Israel and Judah, but He has now rejected them.” They clearly despise My people—they don’t even consider them a nation any longer! But again, this is what the Eternal promises: “Just as I am not about to stop ruling the universe with fixed laws so that the day and the night become confused, I will likewise keep My promise to the descendants of Jacob and David, My servant; I will not reject them. I will not forget the covenant I made with David that one of his descendants will rule over the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. I will restore their fortunes and have mercy on them.

Most of our deepest anxieties come from the fear of death, whether we are conscious of this or not... Death represents fear of the unknown, fear of being abandoned, fear of being rejected, fear of being separated from others, and so on. I am so glad Yeshua gives us eternal life, which for me is not so much about immortality of the soul as it is being loved and accepted by God... That is what "at-one-ment" means, after all (John 17:22-23). Because God loves and accepts us, we trust Him to be present for us, even in the darkest of hours, on the other side of the veil, where he there “prepares a place for us” (John 14:2). As Yeshua said, "I tell you the solemn truth, the one who hears my message and believes the One who sent me has eternal life (חַיֵּי עוֹלָם) and will not be condemned, but has passed (i.e., μετά + βαίνω, lit., "crossed over" [עָבַר]) from death to life" (John 5:24). God's love “crosses over” from death to life and now forever sustains me.

The Torah (in parashat Acharei Mot) provides details about Yom Kippur, or the "Day of Atonement," a special service that gave ritual expression of God's love by making purification for our sins. As I’ve explained before, the word for love (i.e., ahavah: אהבה) equals the number thirteen (1+5+2+5=13), but when shared it is multiplied: 13 x 2 = 26, which is the same value for the Sacred Name (יהוה), i.e., (10+5+6+5=26). Likewise the Hebrew word for "life" is chayim (חַיִּים), is written in the plural to emphasize that life cannot be lived alone but must be shared. Notice that within the word chayim are embedded two consecutive Yods (יי), representing unity in plurality (Yod-Yod is an abbreviation for YHVH, also indicating the “deep Akedah” of Father and Son). God gave up His life so that we can be in relationship with Him, that is, so that we can be "at-one" with His heart for us. Whatever else it may mean, then, the Hebrew word for “atonement” (i.e., kapparah, “covering,” “protection,” “purification,” “cleansing,” “forgiveness,” and so on) is about accepting God’s heart for you - being unified in his love - and if you miss that, you’ve missed the point of the Torah's teaching.. Thank God we are "sealed" in the book of life by the love of Yeshua! [Hebrew for Christians]

Some people might feel a certain amount of ambivalence about the holiday of Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement) since it focuses on the purification for the sanctuary of the Temple, and this seems to have little to do with Yeshua and His sacrifice for our sins. After all, the Levitical system of worship is described in the New Covenant as “a shadow (σκιά) of the good things to come, instead of the true form (εἰκών) of these matters, and it can never, by the same sacrifices that are continually offered every year, make perfect those who draw near” (Heb. 10:1). Since the blood of bulls and goats cannot truly take away sins (Heb. 10:3), the sacrificial system was intended to foreshadow the coming work of Messiah, who was born to die, in accordance with God’s will, and to offer his own body as a sacrifice for sin “once for all” (Heb. 10:5-10). “For by a single offering (μιᾷ γὰρ προσφορᾷ τετελείωκεν) he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified” (Heb. 10:14).

Now while it is indeed true that Yeshua served as our great High priest after the order of Malki-Tzedek by offering his blood upon the heavenly "kapporet" (cover of the Ark) in the holy of holies “made without hands,” there still is a prophetic component to this holiday that applies to ethnic Israel regarding the prophesied End of Days. After all, the realm of “shadows” still applies in the case of unbelieving Israel, who has yet to behold the unveiled glory that awaits her... Therefore the psalmist prophetically cries out, "Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of your Name; deliver us, and atone for our sins, for the sake of your Name” (Psalm 79:9), and this refers to the hour when Israel will call upon the LORD for salvation during the End of Days, otherwise called the great Day of the LORD. This event is prefigured in the blast of the “great shofar” which will be sounded to announce Yeshua as Israel’s true Redeemer and King. Indeed, our the Messiah will one day return to Israel, cleanse her Temple, restore her to Himself, and set up His glorious kingdom.

Since prophetically speaking Yom Kippur signifies ethnic Israel's atonement secured through Yeshua's sacrificial avodah as Israel's true High Priest and King, there is still a sense of longing and affliction connected to this holiday that will not be removed until finally "all Israel is saved" (Rom. 11:26). So, on the one hand we celebrate Yom Kippur because it acknowledges Yeshua as our High Priest of the New Covenant, but on the other hand, we "have great sorrow and unceasing anguish in our hearts" for the redemption of the Jewish people and the atonement of their sins (Rom. 9:1-5; 10:1-4; 11:1-2, 11-15, 25-27). In the meantime, we are in a period of "mysterious grace" wherein we have opportunity to offer the terms of the New Covenant to people of every nation, tribe and tongue. After the "fullness of the Gentiles" is come in, however, God will turn His full attention to fulfilling His promises given to ethnic Israel. May that great Day of the LORD come soon, chaverim... The Riches of His Grace

“In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace.” (Ephesians 1:7)

The attributes of God are characterized by the “riches of His grace.” This amazing grace led Him to shed His blood as the price of our redemption.

No wonder men have developed the familiar acrostic for GRACE—“God’s Riches at Christ’s Expense.” “For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich” (2 Corinthians 8:9).

Paul seems again and again to try to find descriptions for these riches. To the Romans he wrote of “the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering” (Romans 2:4) and of His plan to “make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of [his] mercy” (Romans 9:23). Speaking of God’s mercy, he exclaims, “O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God!” (Romans 11:33).

The inexhaustibility of these infinite depths of grace and mercy led Paul to call these attributes “the unsearchable riches of Christ” (Ephesians 3:8). Desiring that all believers might learn to appreciate the tremendous future they have in Christ, he prayed that “the eyes of your understanding being enlightened,” somehow we might come to appreciate even now “the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints” (Ephesians 1:18).

Yet, marvelously rich and full though His grace is now, there is much more to come. “God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ,...That in the ages to come he might show the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus” (Ephesians 2:4-5, 7). the rolling shower of bullets chase them onto the edge of the lake-a bog of putrid, bloated corpses left to rot over months. there is glass, glinting like stars as they reflect the flares fired in an attempt to draw them out. Yeshua steps out onto the water, his body refusing to sink as he traverses it.

(just like crossing the desert — Yeshua explains, his digits poised over the keyboard: clack, clack, clack)

they've climbed fences and burnt their fingers on rope to escape, their bodies caught in barbed wire; his crown of metal thorns pulling open the flesh. Judah loves him even more in that moment, as if peeling back the layers of mortality will eventually reveal the inner deity that scintillates inside.

A View of History, Bible Prophecy and Current Events - Three great religions look back to Abraham with whom God [Elohim, Ha’Shem] made a covenant for Abraham’s seed. The Jews stand closest in line with that promise in Genesis 15, even mentioning their affliction 400 years [in Egypt]. Because Egypt abused Israel, God said, “I will execute judgment” on Egypt, Exodus 12:12. The book of Judges shows that judges were deliverers, and the promise of judgment in the end-times is a promise of deliverance when God is Judge, Revelation 14:7.When God took Israel from Egypt to a covenant, they became His kingdom (Exodus 19:5,6) and bride, Jeremiah 3:14. At Sinai, God gave Israel the greatest document of self-government ever conceived. It was a law of fairness, the principles of which enabled a wise response to every situation in life and it meant the minimum of external government, with no need of taxes, and Israel had no large prisons for rebels. “The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul.” Psalm 19:7. For example, if one was caught stealing a sheep, he had to repay four-fold. Exodus 22:1. This tends to convert thieves and is so much better than driving a car over the arm of a Muslim child who was caught stealing bread. Israel reached the pinnacle of greatness under Kings David and Solomon about 3000 years ago. But then Israel became unfaithful to God, even as Hosea represented God and was asked to marry a harlot. God sent the Assyrians to take them captive. They were scattered among the nations, some intermarrying with Christians and fleeing the papal oppression to freedom in the New World. More than any other nation, America is Israel to which the descendents of the northern 10 tribes migrated. But as in Egypt, bondage is impending. Many may criticise the Jews for unfaithfulness to God and losing their land–it took them nearly 300 years to do so, but Christians have lost America in less than 200 years. John Adams said, “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people.” Since we began to murder our unborn (a parallel to Egypt’s murdering infants), we are no longer “a moral and religious people.” Since we kicked God out of courtrooms and classrooms, He is using unbelievers to ruin America, even as He afflicted Egypt-there are a dozen parallels to Egypt in a book titled Exodus II on Amazon. The Bible reveals an apostasy of Israel for 390 years in Ezekiel 4:5,6. God said if they didn’t learn, He would punish them “seven times” over, Leviticus 26:18,21,24,28. Multiplying 390 years x 7 is 2730 years. The Assyrians came in 722 and by 715 BC Israel had gone into exile, later to be scattered. (Google Assyrians Captivity, 720) 715 BC from 2730 years is 2015. Is something about to happen? A better question is, Who is Israel? We tend to think of Israel as the Jewish homeland of dispute. The Bible reveals Israel as the 10 northern tribes that established a false center of worship in Dan, and were scattered, many losing their identity by intermarriage with Christians who from a Jewish view, also have a false center of worship on Sunday. Judah represents the Jews of the southern two tribes. The Bible says God will put Israel and Judah together in the end-time. Jeremiah 31:1,8,10,17,31-33 and Ezekiel 37:16,17. Speaking of that, an orthodox rabbi said, God is going to clean His houses before He puts them together! A Jewish rabbi named Saul, who converted to Christianity said, “If you are Christ’s, you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise [of land]” Galatians 3:29. While on the surface, this seems like a compatibility problem, the New Covenant Promise is that God [Elohim, Ha’Shem] will write His law in our hearts. The Hebrew word for law, torah, includes “the law of Moses… with the statutes and judgments.” Malachi 4:4. How this all happens is beyond the scope here, but it implies that when America becomes bondage for true Christians who don’t go along with New World Order and a mark of false worship (Revelation 13:14-17), God is going to honor His covenant for Abraham’s seed with an opportunity for an Exodus that Paul included when he wrote, “All those things happened to them for examples… ends of the world.” 1Corinthians 10:1,11. A “blood moon” is likely to be seen at Passover, April 14/15. The moon is supposed to be turned to blood before the end-time “day of the Lord” cited in Joel 2:31. “The day of the Lord” was also the focus of the prophet Zechariah when he said God “will gather all [Arab?] nations against Jerusalem to battle. The houses shall be rifled, the women ravished. Half the city will go into captivity… Then shall the Lord go forth to fight against those nations… ” Zecharian 14:1-3. Corrupted leaders focusing on a New World Order are pressuring Israel to accept difficult terms for peace. Speaking of the “the day of the Lord,” the apostle Paul warned Christians, “when they shall say ‘Peace and [security] sudden destruction comes on them.” 1Thessalonians 5:2,3. Leaders are saying it: Perhaps the most focused warning comes from Yeshua, named as the Messiah by the late Rabbi Kaduri Yeshua said, “When you shall see [military force] standing where it ought not… flee to the mountains,” Mark 13:14. Doing so spared the Christians who fled when Cestius came to Jerusalem in 66 AD. Could it spare Jews? The name Yeshua means God saves. He saves those who act on His messages. The constellations give witness when men will not. This same signal was in the skies for two years when Yeshua Jesus was born in -3 BCE. It has been in our skies for two years since the Sabbath year 2014-15.d The Lunar Tetrad signaled the beginning of the fight for Jerusalem. The 8.21.17 solar eclipse signaled the troubles of Virgo’s water breaking.

Hurricane Jason was number 11…. Hurricanes: Paul ‘Harvey’ is telling us the ‘rest of the story’ being #9.a number of severing.. and Irma is #10…(yood..hand of G-d). There are nine stars making up Leo and three planets sit at his paw for a total of twelve (tribes of Israel) and twelve shakings.

Venus (Morning Star – Yeshua Jesus), Mars is next (Michael The Archangel of War). and the closest to the virgin is Mercury (Gabriel The Messenger Archangel). The messenger brings the message of WAR…who fill fight with Yeshua…to bring Jupiter’s (Father God) peace to the world. Michael was delayed 21 days as he was fighting with the Prince of Persia (Iran) earlier in scripture. He is the Warrior angel. Twenty-one days is that 20.6 half hour of silence that is spoken of in Psalms. Jacob was with Laban 20 years and came out of his silence from his family bringing forth Benjamin in the 21st year. Twenty-one years will end the silence….or it begins the silence…depending which end of it you’re on. Don’t think Greek…but think patterns…and Hebrew and Middle Eastern. Know the signals…

As I type Jupiter, (Father G-d) is half out of the birth canal of the virgin Virgo. The Hurricanes and earthquakes show the water breaking and the earth shaking. The total alignment of these constellations like this have not been seen for 7000 years.

Rosh Hoshanna is the Feast of Trumpets….September 21, 2017. Open your bibles….Draco the dragon (Satan) will swipe his tail and drop one-third of the hosts of heaven (evil spirits) to the earth. Comets?

Everyone should look up and take Revelation 12 very seriously. The woman is hidden…not taken…for 1260 days…42 days…3.5 years. The battle is won by the man-child (Yeshua) returning…but not before two witnesses intentionally speak more stress on the earth. The earth kills these witnesses and even give each other gifts in celebration of it. There are 144,000 virgin male Jews that also will be martyred for the cause The Torah. They represent the twelve tribes of Israel…the nine stars and three planets that make up twelve shining object in Leo…The Lion of Judah. This Lion leads Virgo that has the sun bathing her for all to see…and the dark moon at her feet…as she crushes the one at her heel…Satan. Do you know of any religion that uses the sliver of the moon as their symbol?

These witnesses have tried to bring God’s instruction back to the earth. Many are killed for this testimony and then it’s done…The earth is purified with Satan and demons locked up for 1000 years…one day…so men will be shown how to REST in The Anointed One…The Messiach.

2015 – Wars begin just before Rosh Hoshanna…the trumpet was blown. Eclipse warnings began that Feast of Tabernacles….two years ago…as I sat watching a couple share their wedding vows at Lake Paradise. It pictured what our Creator has meant for us to be…joined with him in a marriage covenant…that is seen in The Feast of Tabernacles..15 days later.

2016 – The struggle for leaders that will love Israel…. The last Trumpet of G-d was Trump… But, he can not divide Israel…there is NO two-state solution. The day his son-in-law was there and acted as an outlaw to Israel…Hurricane Harvey formed and then hit quickly. In 2005 Hurricane Katrina formed the day the last Jew was removed from Gaza. She hit the day the bulldozers plowed under their Gaza homes. They promised the Palestinians that Gaza/Hebron would be their new home. The Jew was never to return. When you remove someone’s home…they can NOT return. Katrina victims moved to Houston and never returned…but were displaced once again by Harvey. Our Creator will NOT forget…and will keep chasing us down as we continue to revolt against His plans. (He wants Israel in ALL her land…and more than she has now.)

2017 – Creation is at war with humanity…especially America at Rosh Hoshanna 2017.

2018 – Mankind seeks shelter in caves and wilderness with the woman to whom they have agree to graft into… The God man-child, The Messiach.

Read these current blog posts while you can. Many in Florida no longer have cell service…no electricity for several weeks. Texas the same. What has happened and what is still going to happen? Check with G-d….is he talking to you? There is a time of silence… time is about up…. To whom are you trusting your life to? As in the days of Noah has more meaning than you might ever know. Cain, Lot, Jonah all ran from God. Job held the course and did NOT deny who had created him. Noach built an ark showing his faith..Abraham and Sarah held the course for 100 years to see the ‘Seed’ Isaac of whom birthed Jacob renamed, Israel.

Yah’s (G-d) War is about establishing the earth back to the beginning of correction instruction on worship. If you know him…you will know his father…and nothing that He spoke was not from the father. They are in total agreement with this plan. There is a birthing taking place with troubles for 2520 days; 360 days year x 7 = 2520. There are problems for 1260 days….three years….and then Daniel speaks of 1290 days…add 30 days (1 month). It is a marker of still trouble….and then Daniel says that if you can make it tothe 1335th day you’ll be blessed. Read my my current blogs and you’ll see what being blessed means.

Are you willing to multiply on the earth? Are you willing to produce children that you instruct them in The Torah? The ways of the Bible as understood by Yeshua Jesus? He rested on the Sabbath…he did not have pork BBQ…or Pepperoni pizza…. Certain things were laid out that have proven to be very healthy for us…but that doesn’t even matter… We do it because He first loved us and died for the penalty that we bore because of sinning. He took that when The Creator himself laid his life down willingly on the cross (stake). No Jew killed him…if so…then I did it too and you did it too…we all did it…it ordained from the foundation of the world to make that sacrifice for mankind. Just as this day is ordained in the heavens from the foundation of the world. There is no surprise…in what is ready to happy.

Visual sightings are available, verbal messages have been sent and our bibles give witness to some of the greatest events to ever happen. They truly will be a Wonder…just as He is our Wonder. And all of this will send us into situations that will test our ‘faith’. It is time the Christian will give witness not to Mother Nature, but to the one really in charge of every hair on our head….The L-RD… The Great I AM has found us wonting…as the handwriting on the wall expressed to King Belshazzar. He became like a bird with claws and ate from the ground as a donkey. But, in the end his sanity came back and his kingdom was restored…but he truly was a changed man and knew that The Creator was in charge of all of life….

We’re going through this my friends as every pattern shows it. No one was lifted out…even Moses died…Enoch died at Mt. Sinai over 500 years of age. We haven’t had the entire story and thus have been lead astray. We prefer books that man tells us are the BEST to read because they don’t think we can look through the chicken bones and pick out the meat. Read The Book of Jubilees….let’s get straight so our King of Kings will still hear your prayers as you talk to him moment by moment as a comet comes to burn the earth. It will shake more than ever before…and it is all for us to one last time….ask ourselves…What do we believe. I believe in Yeshua, The Messiach because he first believed in me. I will NOT turn my back…but keep typing as fast as I can..giving testimony to the ONE true name in which to be saved….

It is in this name that a broken calf raised it head and then it’s hoof…. That will be my next witness in order to our Creator glory. Do you have a witness story? Pray and ask in sincerity….He does hear our request because He sees our hearts love Him…

A new and better hope.

A new and better covenant founded upon grace.

this is pointed out in Today’s reading from the book of Hebrews with chapter 7:

In the Book of Genesis, we read about when Melchizedek, the king of Salem and priest of the Most High God, met Abraham as he returned from defeating King Chedorlaomer and his allies. Melchizedek blessed our ancestor, and Abraham gave him a tenth of everything captured in the battle.

Let’s look more closely at Melchizedek. First, his name means “king of righteousness”; and his title, king of Salem, means “king of peace.” The Scriptures don’t name his mother or father or descendants, and they don’t record his birth or his death. We could say he’s like the Son of God: eternal, a priest forever.

And just imagine how great this man was, that even our great and honorable patriarch Abraham gave him a tenth of the spoils. Compare him to the priests who serve in our temple, the descendants of Levi, who were given a commandment in the law of Moses to collect one-tenth of the income of the tribes of Israel. The priests took that tithe from their own people, even though they were also descended from Abraham. But this man, Melchizedek, who did not belong to that Levite ancestry, collected a tenth part of Abraham’s income; and although Abraham had received the promises, it was Melchizedek who blessed Abraham. Now I don’t have to tell you that it is the lesser one who receives a blessing from the greater. In the case of the priests descended from Levi, they are mortal men who receive a tithe of one-tenth; but the Scriptures record no death of Melchizedek, the one who received Abraham’s tithe. I guess you could even say that Levi, who receives our tithes, originally paid tithes through Abraham because he was still unborn and only a part of his ancestor when Abraham met Melchizedek.

If a perfect method of reconciling with God—a perfect priesthood—had been found in the sons of Levi (a priesthood that communicated God’s law to the people), then why would the Scriptures speak of another priest, a priest according to the order of Melchizedek, instead of, say, from the order of Aaron? What would be the need for it? It would reflect a new way of relating to God because when there is a change in the priesthood there must be a corresponding change in the law as well. We’re talking about someone who comes from another tribe, from which no member has ever served at God’s altar. It’s clear that Jesus, our Lord, descended from the tribe of Judah; but Moses never spoke about priests from that tribe. Doesn’t it seem obvious? Jesus is a priest who resembles Melchizedek in so many ways; He is someone who has become a priest, not because of some requirement about human lineage, but because of the power of a life without end. Remember, the psalmist says,

You are a priest forever—

in the honored order of Melchizedek

Because the earlier commandment was weak and did not reconcile us to God effectively, it was set aside—after all, the law could not make anyone or anything perfect. God has now introduced a new and better hope, through which we may draw near to Him, and confirmed it by swearing to it. The Levite order of priests took office without an oath, but this man Jesus became a priest through God’s oath:

The Eternal One has sworn an oath

and cannot change His mind:

You are a priest forever.

So we can see that Jesus has become the guarantee of a new and better covenant. Further, the prior priesthood of the sons of Levi has included many priests because death cut short their service, but Jesus holds His priesthood permanently because He lives His resurrected life forever. From such a vantage, He is able to save those who approach God through Him for all time because He will forever live to be their advocate in the presence of God.

It is only fitting that we should have a High Priest who is devoted to God, blameless, pure, compassionate toward but separate from sinners, and exalted by God to the highest place of honor. Unlike other high priests, He does not first need to make atonement every day for His own sins, and only then for His people’s, because He already made atonement, reconciling us with God once and forever when He offered Himself as a sacrifice. The law made imperfect men high priests; but after that law was given, God swore an oath that made His perfected Son a high priest for all time.

with the paired reading of the first chapter of Leviticus describing various offerings made of animals which were all done as a substitute for the True sacrifice which was to come of the True Lamb, the Son of God who came to cleanse us all from sin by offering the grace of rebirth, thus making such sacrifice in the Temple now obsolete, ever since “It is finished.”

The Eternal One called Moses and addressed him from the congregation tent.

Eternal One: Moses, I want you to go talk with the Israelites and tell them how to perform ritual offerings: Any time one of you brings an offering to Me, you must bring the offering from the animals of either the herd or the flock. If you are bringing a burnt offering from your herd, then you are to pick an unblemished bull. No diseased, weak, or injured animals are allowed. Offer it at the entrance to the congregation tent so that I can accept it. The person offering the sacrifice shall place his hand on the head of the living animal, and the offering will be accepted to atone for the person’s sins. You shall slaughter the young bull in My presence. Aaron’s sons, the priests, will offer the blood and splatter it around the altar at the entrance of the congregation tent. You shall then skin the burnt offering and cut the animal up into pieces. The sons of Aaron the priest will place fire on the altar and arrange the pieces of wood. Aaron’s sons, the priests, will place the head, the fat, and individual pieces of the sacrifice on the altar as the wood burns. Wash the animal’s organs and legs with water so that unclean elements are not included in the offering. The priest will offer up the whole burnt offering on the altar, and the smoke of the offering will rise and be a pleasant aroma to Me.

If you give a burnt offering from the flock, either of sheep or goats, you are only to offer an unblemished male. No diseased, weak, or injured animals are allowed. Slaughter it on the north side of the altar before Me. Aaron’s sons, the priests, will splatter the blood all around the altar. Cut the sacrifice up into pieces. The priests will take the head, fat, and rest of the pieces and place them all on the altar as the fire burns. Wash the animal’s organs and legs with water. The priest will offer up the whole burnt offering on the altar, and the smoke of the sacrifice will rise and be a pleasant aroma to Me.

But if you have no flock or herd of your own, then you may offer Me birds; your offering is to be turtledoves or young pigeons. The priest will take it to the altar, pull off its head, and offer up the sacrifice as smoke on the altar. Its blood will be drained onto the side of the altar. The priest will remove the crop and feathers and toss them on the eastern side of the altar in the ash pile. Then the priest will tear the bird open by its wings without separating them completely from its body. The priest will offer up the burnt offering as smoke on the wood-fire of the altar, and the smoke of the sacrifice will rise and be a pleasant aroma to Me.

Our Torah reading for this week (Acharei Mot) provides details about Yom Kippur, or the "Day of Atonement," a special service that gave ritual expression of God's love by making purification for our sins. As I’ve explained before, the word for love (i.e., ahavah: אהבה) equals the number thirteen (1+5+2+5=13), but when shared it is multiplied: 13 x 2 = 26, which is the same value for the Sacred Name (יהוה), i.e., (10+5+6+5=26). Likewise the Hebrew word for "life" is chayim (חַיִּים), is written in the plural to emphasize that life cannot be lived alone but must be shared. Notice that within the word itself are embedded two consecutive Yods (יי), representing unity in plurality (Yod-Yod is an abbreviation for YHVH, also indicating the “deep Akedah” of Father and Son). God gave up His life so that we can be in relationship with Him, that is, so that we can be "at-one" with His heart for us. Whatever else it may mean, then, the Hebrew word for “atonement” (i.e., kapparah, “covering,” “protection,” “purification,” “forgiveness”) is about accepting God’s heart for you - being unified in his love - and if you miss that, you’ve missed the point of the Torah's teaching....
