Thanks for the reply. I wanted to ask you about the nightmare Jon had in ADWD about killing people like Ygritte, Robb, Donal etc. It sounds terrifying when he was described like this "Jon was armored in black ice, but his blade burned red in his fist. As the dead men reached the top of the Wall he sent them down to die again." Here he is armoured in black ice and had his sword burning red. What do you think the dream implying?
Hey! I want you to know I'm reading these questions in a teacher's voice, and I am the student glancing around nervously before making up answers on the fly.
I don't really have anything to say about this that hasn't been said by others. I think the dream has to do with a Dance Of Dragons 2.0-
Jon armored in black ice with a red sword-> drogon
Jon is basically drogon in that moment. The people he is killing are the people of KL. So it's basically burning of KL foreshadowing?
It probably also has something to do with the Others but I'm not sure what. I don't think he's going to fight them at the Wall. Going by the assumption that glowy swords are bad...maybe this dream adds weight to the theory that the Stark ancestors committed an injustice that led to the Others problem.
The dream itself is mostly about guilt.
Jon kills Ygritte-> his guilt over Ygritte's death and generally his sympathy for the Free Folk as opposed to his loyalty to the NW.
Donal Noye, Deaf Dick Follard, Qhorin Halfhand-> he actually had to kill Halfhand to gain the Free Folk's trust so no wonder he feels guilty about that.
Donal Noye dies defending the gate that Jon opens in this same chapter (it's the chapter where the wildlings cross the Wall) and Deaf Dick apparently died by Ygritte's arrow? Damn. Like I said, guilt.
Robb-> Jon screams "I am the Lord of Winterfell" before killing him. I see this as guilty feelings over wanting Winterfell, when now he has had (and rejected) the chance to have it, but only because his siblings are dead. We've seen him think like this before.
My guess? Jon IS going to spend time with D, the same way he spent time with the Free Folk. I'm not sure why he would do that if not to gain help fighting against the Others. Maybe because he thinks it's inevitable she'll get the throne and he wants to be on the winning side. Maybe to save his own (and the Starks) life because you know she would love an excuse to burn them all. Or maybe to mediate between Aegon and D. you know..because he's the only Targ besides them and he's the only one who doesn't want the IT. But then D won't believe Aegon is a Targ and things will go to hell. Idk.
He won't be loyal to her though. His time with the wildlings + dealing with Stannis was the training arc for this (which is also why I desperately hope things don't get sexual bw him and D. You've been here before Jon pls :/) Either way, I assume the breakdown of this 'alliance' is going to come with the death of Aegon.
In the show Jon ended up being complicit in the burning of KL. I hope it will not don't think it will be like that in the books, because book!Jon isn't an idiot. However, I think things will happen and Jon is going to feel very guilty for a very long time.
It was warmer in the godswood, strange to say. Beyond its confines, a hard white frost gripped Winterfell. The paths were treacherous with black ice, and hoarfrost sparkled in the moonlight on the broken panes of the Glass Gardens. Drifts of dirty snow had piled up against the walls, filling every nook and corner. Some were so high they hid the doors behind them. Under the snow lay grey ash and cinders, and here and there a blackened beam or a pile of bones adorned with scraps of skin and hair. Icicles long as lances hung from the battlements and fringed the towers like an old man's stiff white whiskers. But inside the godswood, the ground remained unfrozen, and steam rose off the hot pools, as warm as baby's breath. - The Prince of Winterfell ADWD
That's another 'black ice' associated with burnt stuff, in a chapter named prince of Winterfell (and Jon is technically a prince of Winterfell).
Jon Snow turned away. The last light of the sun had begun to fade. He watched the cracks along the Wall go from red to grey to black, from streaks of fire to rivers of black ice. Down below, Lady Melisandre would be lighting her nightfire and chanting, Lord of Light, defend us, for the night is dark and full of terrors. - Jon XI ADWD
From streaks of fire to rivers of black ice.
So in summary, some version of Pol!Jon is going to play out which will break down into open hostility with the death of Aegon/burning of KL. And Jon is going to feel guilty over it.
