The Bad Guys Season 1: Our Own Story (chapter 36) - Rumors
First Previous Next
This is another chapter that is focused on Piranha and Hornet.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Intro
Mr. Wolf: Yeah! I'm bad!
Mr. Snake: You're bad!
Ms. Tarantula: He's bad!
Mr. Hornet: She's bad!
Mr. Piranha: We're bad!
Mr. Shark: Who's bad?
The Bad Guys: Yeah! We're the Bad Guys!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
At the New Company department, Mira was writing a draft for her next article on paper when someone stood in front of her desk.
"Ms. Rose, there is someone who wants to see you," A fellow journalist told her.
"I'll handle them," Mira said as she finished the last sentence of her draft, and put her stuff in the drawer, and the person left for her to me speak with her visitor in private. When the journalist was ready to meet her comer, Wolf approached her, and sat on the chair. She gasped in surprise, "Mr. Wolf! What a pleasant surprise!"
"Such a pleasant surprise to see you too, Mira," Wolf greeted politely, "How was work?"
"Well, I got a raise because of our last mission, and I decided to stay in the office for a little while," Mira confessed, much to Wolf's surprise, "Yeah, I need a little break from the outside world after my second one."
Wolf nodded understandably, "Take your time. If you need any field journaling news, you know who to call."
"Thanks," Mira bowed smilingly.
"Speaking of news, I do have some news for you," Wolf smirked while crossing his legs.
The journalist gasped, raising a brow, "Really?"
"Well, nothing about our heist or crime-fighting, this news... this is new," Wolf took out a small piece of paper, and placed it on Mira's desk, dragging it with his fingers toward her.
Mira quickly took out another notepad and a pen from her other drawer, and slammed both materials on the desk as she was excited to write this interesting news Wolf had to give to her, "Tell me everything!"
Wolf let out a confident sinister smile. He was so ready to share this story.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The next day, Hornet woke from his sleep, and flew out of his room. Nobody was around yet, so he went to the fridge to get some breakfast.
Right there, he only took out a tiny cup of milk with a straw just for him. When he closed the fridge, he noticed on the calendar that it was his turn to take out the trash. Hornet rolled his eyes, and quietly lifted the garbage bag from the bin, and then to the elevator to send himself downstairs to take the trash out.
When Hornet was downstairs in the tunnel, he headed out, and took the garbage bag all the way up to the bridge where there was a nearby dumpster for him to throw the garbage bag. This was where the Bad Guys often got their newspapers without being spotted by civilians.
Hornet saw a newspaper roll, and it was a new one. When he took it and cut the rubber string that tied the newspaper roll, he unrolled it, and read the headlines while drinking his milk. Suddenly, because of what he read, he spat out his milk, and looked back at the newspaper again in shock.
"WHAT?!"
The newspaper showed the headlines, "More Intimate Than It Looks", and pictures of him and Piranha that were based on their wanted posters were shown.
This was so humiliating already!
Hornet just dealt with his sexuality and his feelings for Piranha, but now, he has to deal with this! Who would've thought of something like this, and printed it in a newspaper?!
"How did it–?"
It was definitely Mira. her name was written all over it... literally. Her name was on the paper. How did she know that?! More importantly, if it was not her, then who? Hornet never told her that Rumors about him and Piranha in a relationship would make them the laughingstock of the whole of Los Angeles! Though, the world had evolved at some point, he and Piranha, both men, different species, what would the public have to say about this? What would people think about them? And if Piranha found out about this? It would be so awkward between. Not to mention, it'll affect their friendship. If Piranha didn't know about this yet, people around him would have been laughing and asking questions about this!
Hornet needed to get rid of this evidence before Piranha found out. But before he could get to the action, Hornet saw that there were a lot of newspaper stalls around the area. This was going to be a long newspaper hunt.
At the speed of light, Hornet flew all over the streets to find sightings of the newspaper with the same headlines that he read in his newspaper. He swopped up, down, left, and right. He stole the newspaper from the bus stops, the sidewalks, business people, regular civilians, pets, and even a baby. When he swiped the newspaper from a baby, it started to cry, but Hornet didn't care. He needed to get rid of all of these newspapers before more people got the read it, and Piranha and the rest of the team might see this.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For the whole morning, Hornet returned to the hideout, and made sure no one saw or followed him all the way home. He carried all of the newspapers in one carry, despite his size. Luckily, most of them were folded and rolled, so it was easy for him to organize them in a stack.
The insect then realized that nobody was around yet, but he noticed a note on the dining table, and it must be from his friends.
Off to the beach. Hope you'll catch up
Guess their friends were at the beach. Hornet just hoped there weren't any newspaper stalls at the beach today.
Now that he was alone in the hideout, it was time to get rid of these newspapers. Hornet hid some under the couch, but there wasn't enough room. But then, he found the paper shredder. Who would even buy or steal this? They weren't even businessmen. It didn't matter. It was a good thing that there was a paper shredder. Hornet couldn't shred each paper. It'll take forever, so he dumped all of the newspaper in the paper entry, and the machine had difficulty shredding all of the newspaper at the same time
Just then, Piranha came out of his room, revealing he wasn't with the other Bad Guys. he was here the whole time! Hornet gasped as he flew steadily in front of the paper shredder, acting causally but nervously.
Piranha rubbed his eye before turning to his side to see Hornet with a paper shredder behind him, "Buenos dias, Hornet, watcha' doin there?"
"Oh, just shredding some old newspapers that haven't had us in it," Hornet smiled nervously, almost stammering.
Piranha just stared confusingly at Hornet while looking at the paper shredder, which nearly look broken with all the papers shredded together.
Wanting to distract Piranha from the paper shredder, Hornet remembered the note their friends left behind, and had an idea, "Hey, Piranha, you know what? Why don't we go to the beach?"
"The beach? Well, let's go tell the others," Piranha never hesitated about the beach as he was about to head towards Wolf's room.
But Hornet blocked his way, "Actually, they were already on their way!"
"Really? They left without us?"
"We'll be alright! We can go on our own."
"But... what should we take for a ride?"
Ignoring Piranha's question, Hornet grabbed his hand with his tiny little hand, and dragged his friend out of the hideout.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
With just taking the bus, Piranha and Hornet made it to Manhattan Beach. They only brought surfboards and a picnic basket since their friends already packed their beach items. The two got out of the bus, and other beachgoers as well before the bus left behind them.
"Well, glad that the bus driver allow us to take a ride without freaking out or surrendering us to the popo right away," Piranha said as he and Hornet headed to the pier.
"As long as we paid him, we were alright," Hornet answered.
Manhattan Beach was so big, they couldn't see their friends anywhere. But then, instead of them finding their friends, Shark found them as he walked back up at the pier, and held a newspaper.
"Guys, there you are! You're just in time. You'll never guess who made the front page," He called.
"Who?" Piranha asked.
Figuring it was too late to cover that newspaper from Shark, Hornet knew it wasn't too late to prevent Piranha from seeing the headlines as he tried to figure out an idea to get rid of Shark from showing Piranha the newspaper. He then found a football from a guy, and took it from him before calling Shark, "Hey, Shark, go long!"
Shark saw the ball coming as he ran as far as he could to catch it, but he already ran over the railings of the pier, and fell back at the downhill part of the beach, Too loooooong!" A loud thud was heard when Shark hit the sand.
Piranha was curious why Hornet suddenly did that, but the latter grabbed the former's hand, and said, just to distract Piranha from what Shark was supposed to show to them, "You know what? I'm hungry, let's eat.
Hungry, hungry, hungry, hungry, hungry."
They walked towards a nearby food truck where an old lady was reading a newspaper with the front page showing the headlines of Piranha and Hornet's false-rumored relationship.
Hornet noticed this while Piranha was looking through the menu to pick his order. Seeing that Piranha wasn't looking, Hornet approached the old woman, and said, "You know what? There is one hot grandpa."
When the old woman turned around, Hornet snatched the newspaper, and crumbled the whole giant paper until it shrunk that fit into his hands. He then threw it into the ground, and stabbed the paper with his stinger, "There was a bee," Hornet explained, lying to make an excuse for what he was doing. He turned to Piranha and continued. "A big bee!" he then turned to the old woman, and smiled, "I think I got it. You're welcome."
The old woman was annoyed by Hornet's ridiculousness for destroying her paper so she quickly left while Hornet proceeded to act casually.
Just then, Shark returned to the pier, uninjured while holding a newspaper in his fin, "Seriously, I want you guys to see this!"
When a surfer with a surfboard walked passed Shark, this was Hornet's opportunity to get rid of Shark in another way to prevent him from spreading the news, especially to Piranha, "Hey dude with the board!" hornet called the surfer
When the surfer turned around, his surfboard turned as well, knocking Shark off the pier again.
"Never mind!" Hornet said before turning to Piranha, "You know what? It's getting really crowded back here. Let's go look for sea glass."
Hornet grabbed his friend's hand, and dragged a confused Piranha with him. All Piranha wanted was to have fun on the beach and meet up with their friends, but Hornet was dragging him away. What was going on with this insect?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Later, Piranha and Hornet returned to the hideout, collecting a lot of sea glass that they stored in plastic bags. "Wow, I've got enough sea glass to make a coffee table," Hornet said as he carried a plastic bag all the way to the couch, and asked Piranha, "What about you?"
"I've got enough sea glass to never, ever look for it again," Piranha answered tied as he threw his plastic bag on the table, and jumped onto the couch, letting his body rest. But then, he noticed a piece of newspaper roll next to him. "Oh, are the comics in here? We didn't get our paper today. Nobody on our block did."
When Piranha took off the rubber band, Hornet quickly snatched the newspaper from him, and threw it away, "Who cares about the comics? I mean a workaholic single mother, and a blonde lady? Boring!" Hornet sat beside Piranha, and grinned sheepishly, "Let's just talk, we never talk."
"We talked all day," Piranha was creeped out about Hornet's behavior.
"You know what? Good point. I'm tired of my own voice. Let's listen to someone else's," Hornet took out the TV remote, and turned the TV on.
"Next on This Week In Channel Six, we'll be taking a closer look in the VERY special area of the crime alley..."
Hearing that the news on TV was about the rumors, Hornet quickly threw a pillow on Piranha's face, and quickly turned the TV off.
Piranha put the pillow down, and whined when he saw the TV was turned off, "But I wanted to see that!"
"No, you don't!" Hornet exclaimed.
Suddenly, Piranha felt something off. As he sat on the couch, it felt so different. He bounced on it, and there was definitely something that felt different, "Why is the couch so lumpy?"
Not wanting Piranha to know about the couch was filled with newspapers he stole, Hornet changed the subject, and said, "Oh, speaking of lumpy. Let's make some oatmeal. Nothing like a big bowl of oatmeal after a long day at the beach."
When Hornet flew towards the kitchen with Piranha following him, the rest of the Bad Guys came out of the elevator as they arrived home after their day at the beach. Shark had a little bruise on the head because of two falls earlier, but he held an ice pack on that spot. He would be fine.
"Piranha, Hornet, there you are! Why do you guys leave the beach early?" Tarantula asked while clinging to Shark's shoulder.
"It's not my fault," Piranha stated as he pointed his mitten hand at Hornet, who was fiddling with his hands.
The other Bad Guys stared at Hornet, waiting for an explanation.
Hornet scoffed as he laughed sheepishly, "Eh, the beach is a little overrated. We're in California. There are a lot of beaches here."
The other Bad Guys were suspicious about Hornet's sudden behavior. He was never like this before, not to mention "super weird".
"Hey, Hornet, Piranha, have you heard of the news today?" Shark took out the same newspaper he held all day.
Hornet groaned a little that Shark still couldn't get over that news. How could that big tuna still have the newspaper after double falls today?
"Who needs news, right? let me just..." Hornet quickly took the newspaper from Shark's fin, and ripped it to pieces.
"Hornet! We're going to read that!" Snake yelled.
"You can still watch the Food Network!" Hornet pointed to the TV and the remote on the couch.
Now Snake was getting more suspicious. Getting Piranha away from the beach was one thing, but shredding a newspaper was new, "What's going on with you, Hornet?"
"Yeah, Hornet, what is really going on with you?" Wolf then walked around Hornet with a sinister smirking look on his face and crossed arms, "Why don't you tell us what is going on?"
When looking back at Snake, Shark, Piranha, and Tarantula, who were all staring at him suspiciously and waiting for an answer, Hornet wasn't ready to tell everyone that he has his feelings for Piranha, or things n the team would get pretty PRETTY awkward. He almost hyperventilated when he looked up at Wolf, who still had his arms crossed and a smirk stuck on his face, Hornet realized Wolf had something to do with the rumors in the newspaper. Now he really needed to know answers from Wolf himself.
Hornet began to laugh hysterically, and held one of Wolf's arms, "Haha! What a sense of humor this canine is!" he continued to laugh as Snake, Shark, Piranha, and Tarantula were creeped out about Hornet, "Will you excuse me for one second?" he dragged Wolf with him all the way to Wolf's bedroom. Hornet closed the door before turning to Wolf, glaring sharply at him, "What are you doing?!"
Wolf snickered, "What needed to be done! I was just giving you a boost of confidence and a nudge."
"I don't need a nudge, Wolf. You have something to do with this!" Hornet leaned closer to Wolf's face, acting like he was threatening the canine.
"Well, there's no going back now," Wolf lifted a brow with a sinister smirk.
Hornet didn't know what Wolf was talking about until he realized that the answer was right between their face. Wolf did this on purpose so that Hornet would get out of his comfort zone to reveal his feelings for Piranha sooner than never. And with newspapers, they were for keeping Hornet motivated of revealing his feelings, and the whole city should know so no one would get confused about their relationship when he and Piranha would get together.
"Oh stinger," Hornet deadpanned.
"Guys, check this out!" Shark's voice was heard from outside.
Wolf and Hornet burst out of the door where the Bad Guys were sitting on the couch, watching TV. Some were surprised while one of them was shocked. Wolf and Hornet faced the TV, and what was revealed to be the news about the rumors in the newspaper.
"Is it predator on predator? Cutie on cutie season? How far would and should this go? Word about Mr. Piranha and Mr. Hornet are a thing that is spreading faster than the speed of lightning itself! It has been the talk of the town as we get more juicy details about the lives of the Bad Guys! Could they be a couple? Is there gonna be drama between them? I, Tiffany Fluffit, will be asking fellow article writers for their theories for this hot new message that got everyone's heads spinning around!" Tiffany reported on-screen with a smile.
Without finishing the news, Snake quickly turned off the TV. All, except Wolf, had their eyes widened in shock at what was happening. That was the most awkward news they ever had as the Bad Guys. In their criminal lives, there was no news of romance about them. It was just today, and it was about Piranha and Hornet.
While still in a state of shock, Shark felt something funny about the couch. He jumped off the couch, and opened the cushions, just to see a lot of newspapers. The Bad Guys, except Hornet, gasped in surprise to see a lot of newspapers on their couch.
"Huh, I always wonder what happened to the newspapers in our block," Snake said.
Piranha took one newspaper, and unfolded it to read the front page. He then put the newspaper down, and turned to Hornet, who had his arms wrapping around him. Hornet looked at Piranha, who showed a shocked face at him. This was getting more awkward. Now that Piranha knew, Hornet didn't know what to say or how to explain this.
After a long shocking and awkward silence, Piranha only had to say, "Uuuhhhh, so–"
"Hold that thought," Hornet told him before flying towards the window, squeezing his body through the narrow opening, and flying away.
