My Type
cw: mention of blood; the girl (Sooa) in this fic is completely fictional and isn't connected to any person in real life, any similarities are entirely coincidental || era: July 2022
❀ JiHo doesn't know how to react when a female friend tells her she likes one of her members
Tumblr media
“Unnie?” JiHo turned to the younger girl to her left and nodded at her with a smile. “I watched your online concert,” she began explaining, causing JiHo’s smile to widen. “As expected, idols are so cool!”
JiHo thanked the girl before she continued. “I watched your solo performance well! You all have great charisma and are so talented and good looking,” she told the idol. “Especially Haechan oppa.”
“Who?”
JiHo’s eyes widened in surprise at the mention of her group’s other maknae. The confession came so unexpectedly, JiHo didn’t know how to react. Her friend — Sooa, a younger Esteem model — laughed at the older girl’s expression. “Who?” she echoed. “Haechan! I think he’s really cool and handsome! And his voice is amazing.”
The compliments to her friend made JiHo scoff, amused. “Don’t be fooled, Sooa. If you get to know him he isn’t that great,” JiHo told her. When she looked at the younger girl though, her expression seemed as if she took JiHo’s words a bit too seriously. “I mean— he’s okay, I guess,” she mumbled.
Immediately, Sooa’s face lit up with a big smile. “Then… Unnie?” the small girl whispered. “Could you perhaps give me his number?”
For some reason that she couldn’t explain, JiHo’s world seemed to stop for a few seconds. She tried to register the younger girl’s words, but at the same time her mind seemed to go completely blank. It was only when Sooa watched her with a look of suspicion, that JiHo scrambled to find the right words.
“I— I’m sorry, Sooa. Haechanie— I mean, Haechan… I don’t think he’d like it if I just give his number to people he doesn’t know,” JiHo tried to explain as tactfully as she could.
“Then why don’t you introduce me to him?” she asked so easily. “I’ve always wanted to go to the new SM building! Or! We could meet up at a cafe somewhere.”
Sooa’s smile only grew bigger as she rambled on about possible meetups between her and the male idol. JiHo bit her lip, nervously, not knowing how to handle the situation.
“Sooa?” she started, gaining the attention of the cute model. “Do you like Haechan? As in, like ‘like’ Haechan?”
The younger’s face flushed the most subtle shade of blush pink as she nodded bashfully. “He’s completely my style! And from what I’ve heard, I think he might like someone like me as well. My friends tell me all the time how we would be a cute couple. Don’t you think so?”
JiHo froze once again. This time however, she was faster at bringing herself back to reality. “I’m not good at telling those kinds of things—”
“But you’re close to Haechan right? Doesn’t he ever talk about the kind of girls he likes? I heard he likes cute and smaller girls, who have a soft image. He also prefers shorter hair right?” she asked, playing with the strands of her shoulder length hair.
“Ah… Does he now?” JiHo wondered out loud. She almost missed Sooa’s “of course, aren’t you close?” when she caught her own reflection in the glass window. The cold looking person staring back at her didn’t seem to match the description Sooa gave her at all — bar the short hair, but that wasn’t particularly uncommon for girls.
JiHo shook her head as if to shake her current thoughts away, before her mind started to wander even more. Putting on another smile, she looked at Sooa again. “I guess I’m not that close to him then,” she joked. “No, but, I guess I haven’t heard him talk about those things that often.”
“Can’t you just introduce us?” Sooa asked, her perfectly pink lips forming a pout. Her big dark eyes looked soft and pleading from JiHo’s view, as she was just a few centimetres taller than Sooa and had to look down at her a bit.
“I’m sorry, Soo—”
Sooa scoffed, grabbing her phone from the table. “All I’m asking is for you to tell him about my existence, unnie. Is that too much to ask?”
The sudden change in demeanour shocked JiHo a bit; so she didn’t know how to respond to the younger girl.
“Or is there a reason you’re trying to keep me from him?”
JiHo stood up in a hurry. Quickly she waved her hands to deny her allegation. “No, no, that’s not it at all—”
“Do you think I’m not good enough for him? Does he have a girl he’s seeing? ‘Cuz you could’ve just told me if that was the case,” she stated, clearly annoyed that she wasn’t getting a clear answer. “Or do you just hate me?”
She didn’t mean to, but JiHo scoffed a bit too quickly. However she apologised just as quickly, “that isn’t it Sooa. Of course I don’t hate you. It’s just—”
“Don’t tell me…” JiHo went quiet as she inspected Sooa’s face. The young girl looked deep in thought before her face beamed, as if she just had the biggest epiphany. “You and oppa are dating?!”
“NO!” JiHo yelled, shaking her head furiously. “Not at all, it’s not any of that.”
“Then… you like him, don’t you?” Sooa spoke. Although JiHo denied her claim, the young girl ignored her and stood her ground. “There’s no other reason for you to keep him from meeting other people if that’s not the case. You just don’t want him with anyone else because you like him, right?
“Unnie, you should get a grip. Don’t you think your chance has passed? If oppa really liked you back, you would’ve been dating already. You’ve been in the group for what? 4 years? And you’ve known him for at least 6? Maybe 7 years already? If he really liked you, you’d be dating. And if you really like him, you should’ve confessed earlier. Don’t you think it’s a bit selfish to keep him for yourself even if you won’t make a move, while he can be happy with someone else?”
JiHo didn’t realise she was biting her lip, until she tasted the taste of metal on her tongue. Her silence made Sooa believe she was right, causing the younger girl to scoff and leave the room with a rude “bye”.
It was only when the ringing of the door slamming closed had fully silenced, that JiHo flopped herself down in the chair she sat in before. She rested her head on her crossed arms on the table before mumbling to herself, “why didn’t I deny it? Why couldn’t I find a reason not to give her his number?
The table then buzzed under her fingertips, causing her to look up from her resting position. She noticed the lit screen of her phone. A message notification from her manager, cut off after the first sentence. Sitting up, JiHo grabbed her phone, unlocking it with the facial recognition feature.
“Ah—” she gasped in surprise. A picture of her with Haechan stared back at her. The picture they had taken in her apartment in front of her manager’s mirror. The same picture that had caused her so much trouble all those months ago and now managed to trouble her mind even more.
She stared at the picture for a few seconds before opening her photo gallery. The first picture there was of her with Taeyong and Doyoung in Japan. She quickly pressed the button to make it her home screen and pressed on the messages app to read the message her manager sent her, trying not to think about Sooa’s words or the fact that Haechan would probably fall head over heels for Sooa the second he’d see her.
