The stretch and tug of flesh was painful, but the assassin endured, gritting his teeth with every slow step.

With Leonardo on his right and was that... Valeria on his right? Ezio found a heavy relief wash over him. Leo was safe and so was one of his first recruits. He had worried for them just as much as he had his lover. "I am glad... you are safe. And... the others?" Perhaps he should have more of a disconnect, but he had recruited them, trained them, and they were -family.-

Valeria pursed her lips for a moment, worry in her own features, but she soon schooled them into a small smile. "Have more faith, Mentore. You trained us and we would not disappoint you."

Matching smile on his bruised face, Ezio lowered his gaze, weariness overtaking him again. "Grazie."

Being laid on his back held another wave of pain, but the assassin somehow found himself on his side. When he opened his eyes again, he was met with Leonardo's still beautiful blue eyes. "Yes, mio amore. ... With you. Home is with you."

“I know my love, we came as soon as we could.” Leonardo said as he knelt beside the assassin while the others made sure to secure the area. When Ezio didn’t return from his mission it was soon learned that he had been captured. Leo had to engineer a few devices and weapons to help the brotherhood get behind enemy lines and that had taken time. He checked over Ezio’s injuries and gave him water to drink. “We need to get you out as soon as possible.”

Despite the burn in his arms and the raw pain in his back, Ezio felt the most relieved in that moment than he had in what felt an eternity. Rescue had been a long dead hope, but feeling those beloved blue eyes fall upon him again brought peace. But if this was a delusion caused by blood loss, then let him die happily in the arms of the man he loved.

"Leo... nardo..." Ezio breathed the word, voice raw from the hours he had spent on the end of a 'cat o nine tails.' Robe long lost, the cycle of lashings and healing could be seen: rough, angry scars criss crossed against fresh wounds, the skin of his back and sides healed only enough so the chips of bone tied within the whip could claw into his flesh again. By then, some of the wounds had begun to fester and his once strong body, despite now being so pale, flushed with fever.

The assassin drank greedily and only stopped when nausea rumbled in his belly. His head fell back with a soft gasp, lungs burning for air again. "I-... I know I cannot walk... or ride alone to safety..."
