Just a lil comfort fic because ow
The wind and rain had Itto dashing through the streets of Inazuma, vaulting boxes and ducking his large frame under awnings and umbrellas alike. Not one to mutter, he cried out complaints the entire time, loudly making it known that he was not having the best time.
He nearly slipped as he skidded to a halt outside his destination, boisterously slamming the door open and entering the tiny one-room (plus bath chambers) home.
"AH! GODS! It's coming DOWN out there! I barely made it without getting totally SOAKED! Blue, you got a towel I can use?" the oni shook himself like a wet dog at the entrance, wringing out his hair before coming in further.
He was met only with a weak groan from the direction of Blue's sleeping mat, his form only a bundled lump.
Itto blinked, skirting around so as to not track too much water into Blue's home. "Still asleep, huh? I getcha, this sure is napping weather. I'll, uh, help myself to your bathroom and grab me something to dry off with. Be with you in a bit, buddy."
The muffled grunt of confirmation encouraged Itto to do just as he said he would, using one towel to dry his hair alone. As soon as he was satisfied with how dry he was, he exited the bath chambers, standing just over the Blue-shaped lump. Blue must not have realized he was there if the whimpers and near sobs of obvious pain had anything to say about it.
"Whoah, Blue, are you okay?!" Itto exclaimed, sudden concern rushing through him.
Blue sniffled beneath the blankets, seeming to realize he was there now, but not having the strength to hold back the noises of his agony. "I-Ittooo…." he groaned.
Itto fell to his knees, his hands hovering over the blanket. "What is it, Blue? What's wrong?"
Suddenly, yellow eyes peeked between the pillow and blanket, obviously wet with tears. "I-It's my… My…" Blue cut himself off with a yelp and a whimper.
"Your what, Blue, speak to me!" Itto was near-panicking now, his eyes tracing over his shape as if he could glean anything. "Your… OH!" sudden realization dawned on him. "Your condition? Is that it?" his voice was suddenly soft, though the concern hadn't left his tone.
Blue nodded his head, sniffling.
"What can I do for ya? You name it, I'll make it happen, I swear!" Itto's brow furrowed in more concern than he could imagine. He should have figured Blue's nerve condition would flare up in this sudden weather change. But he couldn't remember the last time it had been THIS bad.
The nekomata peered at him for a second before his arms emerged from the blanket bundle, held outward in an obvious plea.
Itto blinked in realization before nodding his head with a smile. "I gotcha, Blue. Give me just a sec."
Blue whimpered in protest, but his follow-up noise made it clear he understood as Itto began to undress in front of him. Cold, wet clothes wouldn't be good for Blue's request, after all.
In no time at all Itto was down to his small clothes, not after wrestling with them a bit, of course.
"Alright, Blue, move over because YOUR FAVORITE ONI IS COMING IN!" he exclaimed boisterously, but proved to contrast that by gently entering the blanket cocoon as Blue scooted over to accommodate his size.
All but immediately, Blue latched onto the oni like a squirrel to a tree. He sighed out as he felt Itto's warmth seep into him, not quite alleviating the pain but bringing an amount of comfort to his screaming nerves. Itto knew the drill, wrapping his arms around the nekomata and bringing him in closer.
"That's it, Blue. I gotcha," Itto's voice was soft and comforting, a wide contrast to his usual loud and boisterous exclamations.
Blue whimpered, nuzzling into the oni's broad chest. "I-Ittoooo," he whimpered gratefully, his ears flat against his head and his tails curled miserably.
"It's okay, Blue. I'll stay here as long as you need me, okay? You can count on your one and oni," Itto chuckled, alleviating the miserable vibes.
Blue 'mrrrp'ed, a good sign, to say the least. Every time he snuggled into Itto, or whimpered, or made any sort of indication of pain, the oni would give him a squeeze. Blue seemed to respond well to this, eventually beginning to purr. It was low and broken up by whimpers, but it was a purr, and that meant he was happy.
Eventually, Itto noticed that the purring had stopped. Concerned, he peeked down at the nekomata to see that he was sleeping. Shallow breaths, unbroken by sobbing or whimpering, filling Itto with relief. The thought of going to the pharmacy to pick him up something to ease the pain crossed his mind, but looking down at Blue's sleeping form, so small compared to his own, he couldn't bring himself to part from this embrace. Smiling, he buried his face into Blue's hair, holding him close.
"Don't worry, Blue. I gotcha…"
