Artists inspiration I looked at to help me represent the journey around the gardens and to display the experience in a abstract way. The lines would represent the paths and the time around the gardens and the colours would express the feelings and emotions such as escape and peace.

Week 1 Task 2 - Case Study 2
https://jacobmonk.co.uk/ikat
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jacob Monk is known for his use of colour as he takes something very concentrated like weave and chooses to be playful with colour. I like that the artist does this because when you think about textiles there are many key areas which requires us to really focus on the design and there are many small details within each area whether it’s weave or embroidery. Monk chooses to take vibrant colours and simply weaves them to present each colour in a beautiful and bold way however I chose to include Rainforest as my main art piece to focus on for this task because although his main aim is to be playful I think this piece really focuses on the design rather than the colour and that is why I wanted to highlight. As you can see from the photograph the artist uses very dark colours here and this is the reason that led me to think about the design. I love the gradient affect the artist chose to create with the choice of mixing two colours altering between the two. Each piece is very simple but still so beautiful and weave is a time consuming area in textiles which makes me appreciate the work even more.

i found this page which gave a clear understanding of what the gardens really mean. I loved reading about the gardens and the information was explained very well using questions we need the answers too. This website explains that the gardens is a massive landscape in the UK where people can visit to enjoy the nature and provides a very welcoming place for visitors to walk around and enjoy their day,

Week 1 Task 2 - Case Study 1
Tumblr media
http://www.jongeriuslab.com/work/woven-systems
I chose to include Woven System as one of my case studies because I loved the way the artist played with the different yarns and weaves and combined them into drawing pieces. Even though her work feels minimalistic the attention to detail is amazing. The artist structures each piece carefully choosing the yarns and adds a abstract look to each one which is pleasing to the eye. I am inspired with the abstract element in the artists work and I feel I could work in a similar way. I would love to use yarn and experiment with the patterns I find in The bridgewater photographs. I like the idea of using yarn to draw out lines and also link it to the idea of walking around the gardens and drawing out the experience. I am fascinated by her use of lines and if you look closer each layer is placed in a different direction and some of the yarns are thinner than others which looks like the lines have been faded out. I like how the artist included a bold area in the middle area of the art work which your eye is instantly drawn to. The woven systems makes me tempted to zoom in and look closer. The yarns and weave have been thought out and I think this because of the way the artist has constructed the piece to be.

Week 1 Task 1
How can a sense of place be captured through making?
I believe a sense of place can be captured by observing the place and creating patterns from what you can see and mark making would help too when using different materials. Focusing on colour is interesting because at the garden there is many different plants and this helps me choose specific colours which inspire me. It is also possible to draw texture and even rub paper over an area and scratch over the surface to try to record the patterns of texture.
What could the RHS Bridgewater’s ethos look like in objects of use?
I feel that when it comes to flowers it is always considered a beautiful thing and Bridgwater gardens consists of many different types of plants. Almost creating a safe place. As humans we are drawn in and the gardens create a place that is welcoming and free. I think we can really use the space to escape and gather our thoughts. It is huge so it would take a very long time and this would very relaxing.
What connections could be made through proposed ideas for artworks that are site specific?
How can a feeling or behaviour of a space be taken away in a product or souvenir?
I think visiting places instantly creates memories and memories are sometimes very important to us. As powerful as bridgewater gardens is, it is a very beautiful and unique place to remember. By taking a product or a souvenir and associating it to the place you have visited helps you to carry the feelings of a place and reminds you that such a place exists. I live the idea of a souvenir because it will always remind you of a time.

I tried to create some drawings of the different areas in bridgewater garden to help visualise the space. I am pleased I found a video of the shop and cater area too which is a part of the brief.
Using fine liner and pencil my intentions were to create some small sketches of what I can see considering patterns and positive and negative spaces. I created some drawings focusing on block colour because I like the idea of a abstract piece. This really helped me focus more on of the layout and design of the space rather than just what the space is.
I understand it’s not very clear as I have yet to visited the place but I wanted to take advantage of the footage I have found and I wanted to take the drawings further using different materials
After viewing the space I feel amazed at how spacious the bridgewater gardens is and there is still so much to see. I love how busy it is but with it being huge it still allows you room to breathe. It looks very breathtaking and everything is so beautiful.
From listening to the videos I could imagine myself just walking along the paths of the gardens and feeling the heat on my face. The sounds of the nature was comforting and made me feel like I was in the gardens. It seems to be very quiet too at the same time.
• Draw the sounds you can hear as well as the visuals you see.

Due to sickness I am unable to visit the gardens at this moment in time however I decided to take advantage of my time and research about the garden. I found this video to help me get a visual understanding of the garden in an instant I feel drawn in with how huge the bridgewater gardens is. I think that the scale of the site is pretty impressive.

I plan to take some screenshots of the garden to gather some secondary research and inspire my practical work. I am thinking about taking colour and manipulating patterns from these visuals. I love how spacious the garden is almost feels breath taking. I am excited and I definitely plan to visit the garden in the future as there seems to be so much to see.
