How did you guys do this? I love the project, and I'm wondering where to start if I wanted to do this for my own fanfiction.
Short answer: A lot of planning and organization...and love! 😁Long answer: The Tumblr blog was designed to chronicle the process in a detailed way, but if you have any specific questions, we are more than happy to answer them. Just hit us up on Twitter @futagogo. See you there!

We’ve been asked in the past what was it that inspired us to want to print The Citadel of Lost Children as a book. Well, this is it. This is the post. :)
Unfortunately, we lost touch with @rick-this-is-fucked-up long before the novel’s process began, so we weren’t able to let them know the good news that their wish came true, but if anyone knows how to get ahold of this user, please let us know! ♡♡♡
Not gonna lie I really want to see The Citadel of Lost Children as a book like I just want to hold it in my hands and smell the pages and own 30 copies it’s making me actually cry because it’s not possible

This relates more to the original fanfic than the novel, but we wanted to share that the cosplay cadre “No Laughing Otter” has filmed a mini bonus scene imagined to take place between chapters 8 and 9 in The Citadel of Lost Children! They did such a bang-up job and put so much love into it, we want all the world to see!
Please check out the video, and give them a big old Thumbs Up (and let them know your impressions in a Comment!) because this dynamic duo is magic! ✨

Artist Thank-You #19
This is it... The final artist thank-you post. ;_;
It has been quite a walk down memory lane to come to this final artist because though alphabetically this artist is the last one, this fanart is actually literally the very first fanart that The Citadel of Lost Children had ever received.
@your-morty is no longer active on Tumblr, but their blog lives on and, most importantly, so does this stunning piece of artwork:
Tumblr media
To this day, this piece holds a special place in futagogo’s hearts. We can still remember the day we received the alert that we’d been Tagged in a post, and when we clicked the link, we positively squealed over it.
The colors and highlights depicted through their expert colored marker skills, coupled with that sorrowful gaze on Mouse’s face, makes it a timeless favorite. We were very pleased that the print job did it justice, and we hope that it gives joy to all you readers out there who own it too.

Artist Thank-You #18
The wonderful @wolfwithinher is the next artist we’d like to thank for her peerless contribution to The Citadel of Lost Childen novel. ♡
Tumblr media
This girl draws a seeeexy Rick Sanchez!! And the classic medium of pencil on paper used here made for a naturally monochromatic piece that not only lended itself to what we thought would be a black-and-white print job but also captured the somber moment depicted here from chapter 10.
As an artist, Wolf excels at anatomy, drapery folds, and a whole lot of feeling. ✨As a person, she’s an absolute delight and treasured member of this community.
Thank you, Wolf, for creating what has been a long-time favorite fanart and for granting permission for its inclusion in the novel. We hope that the finished product of the book gives you as much joy as it does all of us. :)

Artist Thank-You #17
At loooong last, we get to thank an artist who we’ve had the pleasure of knowing from TCoLC’s earliest days and even got to meet and hang out with in real life! Truly a wonderful person all around, Toast, is the seventeenth artist we have to thank for her treasured contributions to the novel.
Tumblr media
One of the most noteworthy qualities of Toast’s style is her clean linework and soft curves. She communicates so much with just a few strokes of the pen! And the way she depicted a cocky X-280 -- complete with that Signature Rick Sneer™️ -- was the perfect note to end chapter 1 on. >:3c
Tumblr media
This piece (featured at the end of chapter 11) was actually part of a three-page comic Toast had made to depict the steamy park scene featured in the chapter.  :D Toast truly is a master of telling a story through illustration, whether they’re solo pieces or sequential narratives!
Tumblr media
This piece was actually created by Toast in person and was an honor to receive in real life. ✨ Made with only black and gold, it’s a powerful but tender piece to herald the Epilogue Chapter. ;_;
Thank you, Toast, for your beautiful homages to TCoLC, your generous permission to feature so many of your pieces in the novel, and your friendship! ❤️

Artist Thank-You #16
Woo-ee! Two back-to-back posts featuring the two most featured artists in the novel.
The one other author who also had a whopping four illustrations featured in the book (and one was a two-page spread!) was none other than the mighty “Specs” (@fuckingspectacular)~!
Tumblr media
This sensual piece opened up the first chapter of the entire novel and, we feel, sets the mood for the sexually-charged auction to come. ;)
Tumblr media
We love the quirky Council of Ricks and so were absolutely tickled pink when Specs surprised us with this stunning two-page spread displaying them in all their haughty glory! >:3c
Tumblr media
Specs was involved with the novel in its earliest stages -- so early, in fact, that we didn’t know if we’d be printing it in color or not! So she graciously volunteered to make two black-and-white-friendly pieces...never before seen anywhere! This first one was featured at the end of the emotionally charged chapter 10...
Tumblr media
...and the other was smack dab in the middle of chapter 12 and is a rare portrait of one of the other main love stories of TCoLC: The Captain of the Guard and his subordinate Guard Morty. ♡ Super erotic!!
We remember when Specs first came onto the scene in the Rickmorty community and have enjoyed watching her thrive and grow as an artist who is not only tremendously skilled but also very confident and at ease with her vocation and articulates herself beautifully. We cannot thank her enough for all that she has done to elevate The Citadel of Lost Children novel to the vibrant and distinguished printed book that it is.

Artist Thank-You #15
Ooooh, this artist holds a very, very special place in our hearts. “Skyriazeth” (@rnmwincii) had been a long-time reader of TCoLC and one of our closest online friends by the time we started putting the novel together.
And it wasn’t until putting this post together that we realized that the order in which Skyrizaeth’s four (yes, you read that right, four) illustrations appear in the novel actually reflects the chronological order in which we had received them in the first place. So cool!
Tumblr media
Meeemorieeees. It was with this touching illustration of X-280 and Mouse that Skyriazeth first reached out to us to let us know how much they were enjoying TCoLC. Needless to say, their enthusiasm was always a huge source of motivation and inspiration. :)
Tumblr media
The cropped version here does little justice to this mysterious and beautiful illustration, but even if you didn’t snag your copy of the novel, always remember that you can enjoy this fanart (and many others!) on futagogo’s flickr account! This one is a personal favorite of futa-2′s.
Tumblr media
This smiley Mouse was the perfect way to herald the start of chapter 13 because The Author’s discourse on reason vs. cause that takes place in that chapter was, in fact, inspired by a conversation we’d had with Skyrizaeth once! ♡
Tumblr media
The last (but certainly not least!) illustration was actually created by Skyriazeth at the very end of the novel’s production process. Out of the goodness of their heart, they helped The Team avoid a sorely empty page at the end of chapter 16 and also fulfilled the authors’ secret wish that an artist would depict the mindfuckery that happens in chapter 17. >:3c
Thank you, thank you, and thank you again, Skyriazeth, for showering so much love onto TCoLC and for letting us feature so many of your illustrations in the novel. It wouldn’t have come out as beautifully as it had without them!!

Artist Thank-You #14
This artist is no longer active on Tumblr, but you are sure to have seen their one-of-a-kind style floating around because they had a killer combo of tender linework and imaginative creations.
“Sinfulshitpost” surprised us with one of the earliest pieces of fanart we had ever received for TCoLC and captured a poignant moment in a beautifully understated way. We knew from the novel’s earliest stages that this oldie but goldie would have a home in it:
Tumblr media
It fit so perfectly into the layout of chapter 7, coming right before Mouse’s heartwrenching line at the top of the next page “I-I missed you, Rick.” ♡
If anyone has any leads as to how this artist can be contacted, please do let us know! We’d love to properly express our appreciation and thanks to them personally.
Please enjoy more of what this artist has to offer online by googling “sinfulshitpost”~!

Artist Thank-You #13
The Team considers it a true honor and privilege to have featured this fantastic artist in both the interior front and back covers for The Citadel of Lost Children novel!
“Sabra” of @thesabracollective stepped in toward the end of the novel’s production process to bless both interior covers with completely new illustrations.
Tumblr media
What a treat for the eyes as the first thing you see when you open the cover…
Tumblr media
…and the last thing to behold when you reach the very end.✨
Inspired by our own personal favorite artist Alphonse Mucha, we cannot imagine a more fitting way to “bookend” the novel than with these outstanding masterpieces.
THANK YOU, Sabra (Sebastian) for your unforgettable contributions, and for all the love you have ever shown us and the story. ♡

Artist Thank-You #12
Thank you @r1cks1nchez for your wonderful contribution to The Citadel of Lost Children’s novel!
Tumblr media
It went without saying that this particularly symbolic illustration of a set of cards inspired by the proceedings with “The Author” would be the perfect way to end chapter 13 in the printed book.
Please know that the addition of your illustrations to the novel is something that we will cherish for always, r1cks1nchez. And we hope that your copy of the TCoLC novel has made a happy companion to the rest of your home library. :)
This prolific artist has also blessed the story with so much other fanart and cosplay in the past, and for that, we are eternally grateful. Please enjoy more of what they have to offer on Tumblr at https://r1cks1nchez.tumblr.com/

Artist Thank-You #11
So sorry for falling so far behind on our regular Artist Thank-You Updates! We shall remedy that by posting the whole slew of backlog posts starting now~!
The 11th artist to thank is none other than the magnificent r1ckrte (@nicolebrigette) who had not one but two illustrations featured in the novel.
Tumblr media
The first was actually something of a collaboration since it had been done as a commission by the lovely @nolaughingottercosplay ! That twisted possessive passion of Riq’s character is palpable in this shot!
Tumblr media
The second was a lovely homage piece to the C-165 to precede what would be his last appearance in the story (hope that wasn’t too spoiler-y~! ;) )
If that second illustration looks to you like a snazzy character model sheet, you would be right!  R1ckrte (Nicole Brigette) is an up-and-coming animator whose name will come to be known far and wide in the animation world. ✨ Her readership of the story and participation in the novel we consider an unparalleled privilege.

Aaaawwww~!!! What a bittersweet message!!!! It hurts our hearts to hear that your book is having a hard time holding up in the face of your unbridled passion for it (heh) -- we're going to write to the printer to let them know that its binding process might have some issues. 💪
If it’s any consolation to you, we’ve gotten in touch with a fan who happens to be knowledgeable in the ways of at-home bookbinding/reair. :) We could direct them your way if you like~! 📖
It really is the highest honor to be told that you keep going back through the book to enjoy favorite parts over again. 💗 💗 💗
Thank you for taking the time to write and we hope The Citadel of Lost Children continues to bring you joy for many moons to come~!
@the-citadel-of-lost-children just wanted to let you know that my copy of the book is beginning to look so ugly… and i mean that in the best possible way. i’ve read it like four times since receiving it and even when i’m not really reading it i keep coming back to my favourite parts. it’s safe to say i’m obsessed. pages are literally coming loose.

Artist Thank-You #10
The 10th Artist Thank-You is also this blog's 100th post! Que perfecto! And this 10th Artist to thank is none other @pk4n -- artist extraordinaire! You will automatically recognize p4kn's contribution as the illustration art used for The Citadel of Lost Children novel's cover.
Tumblr media
From the moment we first saw their unparalleled One True Morty fanart, we knew there could be no more fitting an illustration than this handsome fellow for the cover of the novel. And we are eternally grateful for their generous permission to use it as "the face" of this novel's project.
Thank you, thank you, thank you @pk4n -- the book would definitely not be what it was if not for you!!
