“In my experience its been the none supers that have given me more trouble.” she confessed. “Some people are so small minded. They see something different and they want to eradicate it. Like we’re some kind of disease.” she looked away for a second then back at Scott. “But I know you know more about that than me.” she forced a small smile.

“There aren’t many left and the ones that are you don’t have to worry about.” she smiled feeling the surge of worry that coursed through him. “It’s not my place to out people. I know what lots of people are but I don’t say anything because I… I don’t want them to know what I am.” she replied. “Most of the supernatural are harmless. They just want to live normal lives. Well… as normal as they can. What good would putting them on display do?”

As his eyes glowed she felt her heart skip in her chest. She’d known what he was. She knew what everyone was. But seeing it in front of her was something entirely different. Swallowing the lump that had grown in her throat she took a step forward, into the beam of moonlight. As it cast over her skin a soft white light glowed around her, like a barrier of light. He’d shown himself now it was only fair that he saw her. “I suppose we do.” she said keeping her eyes on him. “I’d like to talk. I know you can keep a secret.”

She’d been drawn here. The pain and torment of the school called out to her like a beacon. A horrible song she couldn’t get out of her head. Walking the deserted halls in the moonlight she let her fingers trace over the lockers, the feel of the cold metal sent shivers down her spine. Walking with her eyes closed she soaked in the past of the building. Hoping that it would ease the stress she felt during the day as she walked the halls filled with other kids. Then she heard her name. Her eyes snapped open and she stared at the boy from across the small corridor. “Scott…” she said with shock. He was in her history class. His next sentence made her breath catch in her chest. Looking down at her hands she side stepped putting herself in a shadow and not in the direct moonbeam leaking in through the windows. “I… yes um… its… its a long story.” she fumbled unsure of how he’d react to the truth.

Dru stood outside Edwards door. Taking deep breaths she smoothed her hands down her dress and put on a smile before knocking on the door. She hadn’t been on a real date in years. Her heart was racing. Shifting on her feet as she waited for the door to open.

“Who would you rather be?”
Tumblr media
“You don’t really want that. You wouldn’t be who you are without what you’ve been through. Our pasts… our memories are what make us who we are.”

“I guess I don’t know the difference.” she smiled. “All of these tacos are free because you got them for me.” she joked. “All tacos are free tacos when you’re this cute.” she smiled.
Tumblr media
“Are you really that hungry?” she asked. “You know you could just buy them. They aren’t any different than the free ones.” she added with her mouth full.

“Thanks.” she smiled as she headed for the door. “Definetly. You know you can’t stay away from Jitters long enough to avoid me.” she grinned spinning around to face him before she walked out of the lab. “Next round’s on you though.” she shouted back at him.

Dru felt the drop in the rooms vibe instantly. With a deep inhale she forced a smile. “Anyway…” she stood up and put her hand on Barry’s shoulder. “I didn’t want to drag things down I just wanted to stop by and say hi.” she squeezed his shoulder lightly. “Tell you your favorite barista was back in town so you can stop in for free coffee again.” she chuckled. “Was good to see you Barry.” she added. “Things will look up for the two of us soon.” she continued. “They can’t all be black days.”

“Nah, it’s… Don’t worry about it.” Lately it seemed like he was actually looking for excuses to bring himself down, perhaps because his system was desperately looking for alternative ways to express his grief, given how reluctant he was to talk about it instead. “And that’s great, welcome back.” He placed his hands on his desk to push himself up and get on his feet so he could see her off properly. “No, I guess they can’t be. Whatever you need, just… you know where to find me,” he reminded her with a smile as he raised a sweet shoulder. “So, I guess I’ll see you around?”

“More surprised it took this long.” she chuckled at him as he moved to lay flatter in cramped back seat. Her long legs bent up around his waist while her fingernails dragged down his back. “Was expecting this much sooner on the trip if I’m honest.” she smiled at him. “And I totally saw you bought the condoms.”
“I wish I could say I was surprised.”
SOMEBODY SCREWED UP STARTERS
“Surprised that we’re practically naked in the back of my jeep? Or that I preemptively bought condoms at the last gas station when you weren’t looking just in case this,” Stiles dripped kisses down Dru’s neck, “particular scenario played out?”

“What I want.” she chuckled under her breath. “I want to not be a freak. To not know what everyone in the room is feeling. To be hit on a guy and not instantly know exactly what he’s thinking and feeling about me.” she forced a smile. “But we don’t always get what we want.” she added. “What we can survive is amazing really. Our brains are capable of some of the most amazing things. The ability to instantly flip script and find a new way to survive.” she smiled. “Don’t you think?”
Tumblr media
“Right,” he muttered, coming to regret that comment since evidently she wasn’t doing what she wanted to do but rather what she felt she had no choice but to do. “Metahumans are not freaks.” He wasn’t just speaking on his behalf, but on behalf of each of those he had met that would have preferred to die in the explosion rather than become who they became, winding up with unbearable lives that happened to end far too soon. “Not as instantly as you’d like it to.” There must have been a glitch in his, causing it to pause and leave behind the numbness he had turned into, or perhaps it had decided it was not strong enough to keep on flipping script. He forced himself to smile. “But I guess, yeah.”
