Has your OC ever taken on a burden or suffered harm to protect another from suffering its consequences? Did the person in question realise that they had done so? What was their motivation when doing this?

Listen, dice are Not Lance's friend. At least not in the rescue of his little brother. He's a knight so his first instinct is to move in to take hits for those he cares about. One such incident was when he teamed up with Tara and Alexois to go rescue Lothaire. One of the enemy was taking a shot at Tara and despite his injuries he stepped in to block the shot. (Darn the low dice roll lol) His shield however didn't survive the blow. Yes he basically pulled a move like our favorite Fortemps knight. Tara was supremely unhappy with him once she was sure he was recovered enough to lecture him. An now is threatening him with the sad eyes of the kids to get him to wear a helmet so that he stops taking head injuries since his body armor stopped most of the other injuries.

Not that it helped he'd already had injuries from fighting not only his own target but from a spell that pit Alexois and Lance against each other. Needless to say... Alexois is very much loved by the dice and he was kicking Lance's ass. XD

It's...Saturday..so...we'll do SHOW ME SATURDAY! Show me your current favorite WoL/OCs, take this opportunity to gush about them! Even if it's not Saturday when this reaches you!

Bram and Rulian are my current one. Well have been for two years almost now. Bram is sweet, sassy, glittery chaos gremlin. Rulian is the poor unfortunate knight who loves him. HA. I love them very much. Show me who yours are! I want to know!

What has Stefan been up to while I've been too busy this summer with rl things? Helping his cousin set up a cafe in Ishgard. (It was his excuse for being nearby when he went to Story Hall. :D)

Lothaire decided he needed a safe place his mother or anyone she hires would not likely look too closely at. As well as he wanted a safe space for people like Alexois if they have work to do in Ishgard. (Remember Alexois is an assassin known as the Jackal of Coerthas.) The door to the back safe rooms is hidden from the average person and spell locked (courtesy of Stefan) against anyone with ill intentions towards anyone written on the safe list. (Hope you like being turned into a frog if you trigger the spell.)

So Lothaire got both Bran and Stefan to help him with the setup of the business front. Lothaire is good with numbers and can easily run the business as he was trained since he was young to handle the family business of the Aurifore. (He just doesn't want to deal with the black market like his grandfather and father. He wants to actually earn his money in better ways.) However he wanted the help of Bran and Stefan with picking out books, furniture, and sweets for the cafe. As well as overall look of it. He intends for coffee and tea to be free but the sweets and other specialties cost money. Books can be enjoyed there or bought to be taken home.

This also gives Lothaire a safe place to spend time with his older brother, Lancefer.

Why does he allow an assassin to use this as a safe hideout? Alexois helped save his life. As well as Alexois and Lancefer used to be friends a long time ago. (Their friendship is on the mend atm.) Lancefer might not have survived his trauma without his friendship to Alexois. Plus Alexois is an assassin with morals. (He won't kill women or children. Only exception to the women is if they are abusing people or trying to kill him. Trust me he's more than tempted to kill Lady Aurifore for her crimes against her own family.) So Alexois has more than earned Lothaire's respect and trust.

The safe hideout part might eventually include Asher in time. Possibly others of my morally gray characters. He got this idea from Alexois' wife, Sanagi. An while it's main benefit is for my own characters and a couple friends, doesn't mean other can't make a connection with my own kids an consider it their safe space too. (Please note the backrooms haven't been OOCly built yet. XD Coming soon.)

The house is located on Goblin. Empyreum Ward 25 Plot 59. I doubt I'll ICly run it myself (considering it's myself and 2 friends in FC). But it is NPC staffed if people want to use it for RP things. The upstairs is setup as the reading area with the cafe itself being downstairs (cause heat rises so it will help keep the reading area warmer against the chill of Ishgard). It's ICly owned and run by Lord Lothaire of House Aurifore.

Prompt #1: Cross

When was the last time he’d been so openly cross with his parents? Wasn’t that when he was barely a teen and barely old enough to be accepted to work for one of the High Houses? He couldn’t remember another time so distinctly. Not that his parents didn’t push his buttons on the regular. There was almost always an urge to give the both of them a piece of his mind but he usually ended up biting his tongue.

For his siblings sake. Always holding his tongue so they didn’t have to suffer for his choices. When he upset his father, his little brother and sister always had to deal with their father’s sour attitude. He’d gotten so used to wearing a mask of indifference and keeping his tongue held. He might not adore his sister as much as Lothaire but neither deserved that. Especially since he was the oldest and he was supposed to be setting the example.

But it was so hard to hold his tongue tonight. Maybe it was the alcohol still buzzing in his veins that made his blood boil so much easier. He wasn’t a child anymore. Why was he still taking such a verbal beating from his father now? There was no good reason.

“Stuff it, old man.” Lance sneered at his father as he leaned heavily against the door frame. Both to keep him steady from the booze and from his injury. “I do not need your chocobo crap tonight.” 

“Insolent child!”

Lance made a face at his father before turning to storm as best as he was able into his room. Slamming the door shut behind him and flopping onto his bed with a groan. Maybe drinking so much with Alexois tonight hadn’t been the brightest idea. But the booze numbed the pain of his injured leg and the ache of his soul.

Sure he’d not escape punishment later. But that was later. For now he just wanted to lay here on his bed and wait for the blackness to claim him for sleep. That was the other plus of the alcohol. The dreamless sleep most of the time. Sometimes the nightmares were still stronger than him being passed out drunk. Tonight he didn’t want those nightmares. That was why he’d gone running the lower city with Alexois. 

Why did his father care anyways? The man sure as hells didn’t care when he’d come back injured from the attack on the Vigil. One of the few survivors able to walk away because of the commander’s sacrifice. All his father did was try to insist he shouldn’t have ever joined House Haillenarte. That it was a waste to remain with such a disgraced House.

Drunkenly, he threw a pillow at the closed door. “To hells with you…” Lance muttered before burying his face in the other pillow still in reach.

He could still clearly remember the day he fought with his father about his choice to serve House Haillenarte. He’d made that choice with pride. Still held that pride regardless of the loss they’d just suffered. Remembered arguing with his father as he stood near the door, ready to go out and join up. All his father saw was a young boy wasting his potential. All Lance saw was the chance to work with a House whose children were more for helping the people and honesty. It was better than the lies and scheming. Better than working to just achieve power and money. 

Rolling over onto his back finally and staring blankly up at the ceiling above him. Closing his eyes instead of fighting the urge to sleep now.

At least when he spent time with Alexois… He didn’t feel so alone.

Lance frowns in thought at the question asked. Was there really something he refused because his happiness wasn't worth it? A shake of his head. "Honestly? I've given up caring what others think unless it's something that can further harm the reputation of Haillenarte. I used to care. I stopped when most of what made me happy was taken away because it still mattered what people thought."

"I can't even say that my mother being locked away would make me happy. She's done much harm to our family. To my brother. It's all I have left that I would care about what people say. Because I refuse to let my brother have to shoulder that burden if I were to accuse her should I find solid proof to have her arrested for her crimes. But it would not make me happy to lock away my own mother. Even if she does deserve it."

"Well... Hugs for certain. Though do not ask Tara. I pretty much froze up the first time she hugged me because I was not expecting it. But it had also been years since anyone outside of my little brother had hugged me. Even then though the hugs from him were rare because of our parents. Being effectively the black sheep made everything tense around that house. Not that I will ever turn down kisses from you, Kyna. Or even some comfort foods. It has been quite the adjustment to go from that cold house to effectively a large and loving family between the Loches and your family."

fissure — does your muse have any relationships that they’d like to fix?

Surprisingly Alex does have one relationship he would like to fix but he's unsure of how to fix it. It had been fixed and then it wasn't. And it wasn't even his fault either this time. (It was actually something that was done to keep a character of mine still playable after a fall out with someone.)

Alex originally messed things up with Lance in an effort to protect him from Jaques (his ex-mentor) killing him when they were younger. They had managed to patch things up but then Lance lost his memories of the last couple years when he took a blow to the head. Lance doesn't remember being married or that he an Alex were on friendly terms again. However Alex does know Lance's wife was killed. He's been keeping it secret for fear his friend would do something foolish.

Sanagi and Kyna had tried to help remind Lance that he shouldn't be mad at Alex anymore but right now it's just going to need time. (An a plot of rescuing Lance's little brother.)

seismic toss — has your muse ever learned something that turned their world upside down?

Learning just how corrupt and unmoral his parents and grandfather were. They asked him to not only spy on his cousin but in a sense aiding in what they plotted against her. Thankfully he was never really all in on their plan since he didn't much get along with his family outside of his little brother. And watching his cousin and the company she worked for, getting to know them, he decided he was done with his family. Even if it meant being disowned. Now he sneaks around to meet with his brother so that their mother doesn't know.

FEAR. -What are your muses biggest fears?

"I suppose one of my biggest fears is losing Lance, if not in fact -the- biggest. We're in the process of building a life together that I've longed for for so long that to be without him I'd lose myself in the process. I am also deathly afraid of voidsent and dark magics, and in order to steel myself a bit better against them, I'm having to face my fears and learn that discipline so I know how to best counteract it."

To Serve Again

(This is from after the fall of the Steel Vigil and before ARR. So a little backstory for Lance and his first meeting with Lord Francel as he joined the posting at Skyfire.)

Lancefer paused as the snow slowly drifted down around him. Sky blue eyes gazed up at the building before him. Still dark smudges rested below his eyes despite how long he’d taken off from duty. Despite how many months he spent with Alexois just drinking and getting into fights.

In fact it was Alex that had been insistent that Lance return to duty finally. Pushing Lance to give this whole knight business another try. To once more return to the house of the roses, Haillenarte.
