REFUNDS TO BE ISSUED FOR 2020 BCA POOL LEAGUE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
Tumblr media
On Sunday, March 15 we made the unfortunate announcement that the final four days of the BCA Pool League World Championships, scheduled for March 11-21, would be canceled due to the growing COVID-19 pandemic. This eliminated the teams portion of the event and left many asking if they would receive entry fee refunds. The answer is yes, of course.
Entry fees typically consist of three parts – prize fund, admin fees and green fees. Admin fees help cover the administrative cost of processing entries and green fees help cover the cost of the pool tables, lights, staff and other setup needs. Although hundreds of hours were spent processing entries and verifying ratings and eligibility (i.e. admin fees) and 150,000 square feet of the Rio Convention Center was setup with over 300 Diamond pool tables and lights (i.e. green fees), many of our members ultimately did not get to play. Therefore, CueSports International will issue full refunds upon request for divisions that were canceled.
We are also taking this a step further. The event was already underway when the World Health Organization (WHO) officially declared COVID-19 a pandemic on March 11. After that announcement, some people whose travel plans were scheduled after March 11 chose to not make the trip. Therefore, CueSports International will also issue full refunds upon request to those registrants who did not participate in the 8-Ball Singles divisions which began on Saturday, March 14.
To request a refund, please visit www.playcsipool.com/refunds and complete the Refund Request Form by May 25, 2020.
The COVID-19 pandemic is wreaking havoc across the world and many people have suddenly found themselves without work or income. Although this has also been a massive blow to CueSports International, we will process refunds as quickly as possible in the hope that it will help ease the burdens on our members in some small way.
We hope everyone stays safe and healthy in this unprecedented time.

Porter and Sanders Solidify on Poison Lone Star Tour
Tumblr media
Ray Porter of Highlands, Texas went undefeated in a 64-player field, at the second 9-ball tournament stop of the 2020 Poison Lone Star Billiards Tour. Tommy Sanders came from the one-loss side to defend his Port Arthur title, in the 45-player, open 9-ball division. Aaron Springs finished runner-up in both divisions, a feat accomplished by few players since the Tour’s 2010 inception.
Tumblr media
Burgess, Springs, Singleton, Griffith, Boo, Porter
Title sponsor Poison by Predator Cues, Cyclop Pool Balls, APA of North Harris County, Alamo Billiards, and Outsville Billiards, facilitated a phenomenal, two-day 9-ball tournament, held at Diamond Sports Bar and Billiards in Port Arthur, Texas. Room owner, Tony Nguyen, added $1,000 to the nearly $9,000 purse and provided first-rate accommodations for the players, including eighteen Diamond bar tables for tournament play, in a smoke-free atmosphere. Not only did Nguyen host the event, but raised over $700 on Sunday alone, for Intentional Dog Rescue, a 501(c)3 started by local player and photographer, Christie Kasko. The Poison Lone Star Billiards Tour is proud to announce, that the Tour will be returning to Diamond Billiards, June 6th-7th, 2020, for another tournament extravaganza to include its two 9-ball divisions, and a Gulf Coast Women’s Regional Billiards Tour 9-ball event.
Tumblr media
Ray Porter
In the amateur 9-ball division, making his way to the winners’ side, final four, Ray Porter defeated Steve Lenz, 5-1, Shane LeBlanc, 5-4, Teresa Ballenger, 5-0, and Randall McKenney, 5-2. Mike Singleton secured wins over Butch Sheppard, 5-1, Brittany Kromer, 5-1, Kevin Frauenberger, 5-4, and Joel Acevedo, 5-2, while newcomer Damien Burgess of New Iberia, Louisiana, bested Theo Hoang, Austin Abernathy, 5-0, Danny Hoang, 5-1, and Louisiana “La Le” Le, 5-0. Aaron Springs rounded out the final four with wins over Teresa Garland, 5-1, David Spicer, 5-1, Dennis Hadley, 5-2, and Mark Cardenas of Victoria, Texas, 5-1. On the west side, in the final sixteen, Marlin Griffith extinguished Ballenger, 5-1, but was eliminated in turn by Le, 5-3. Frauenberger ousted Abernathy, 5-3, but fell to Cardenas, while Hadley disappointed Carl Honey, 5-4, and Acevedo, 5-3. Billy Boo overwhelmed Jim Higgins, 5-1, and McKenney, rounding out the one-loss side, final four. Back on the east side, Porter passed Singleton, and Springs sent Burgess west, by the same score, 5-3, pitting a first-time, hot seat match-up between Porter and Springs. While both competitors executed with a steady focus, the veteran Porter pulled ahead to prevail, 5-3. Griffith defeated Cardenas, 5-2, marking up seven wins on the one-loss side, but was headed off by Singleton. Boo ended Hadley, 5-2, but fell to Burgess, 5-0. Singleton denied Burgess, 5-3, but was stopped by Springs, 5-2. Once again, Springs faced off with Porter, both vying for a shot at their first Tour victory. In the true, double elimination final, Porter powered through Springs in the first set, 5-3, to earn his first, amateur 9-ball title.
In the open 9-ball division, on his way to the winners’ side, final four, Tommy Sanders bested new player, Tommy Terrabone, Jon Lear, 6-0, Michael Presley, 6-0, and Beau Courts, 6-2, while Steve Lenz passed Randall McKenney, Theo Hoang, 6-0, David Chow, 6-4, and Justin Espinosa, 6-3. John Lassek took down Kevin Frauenberger, 6-3, Dustin Johnson, 6-4, Doug Young, 6-4, and Stephen Turner, 6-0, while Aaron Springs dusted off Troy Woodard, 6-3, Austin Robbins, 6-4, Tony Nguyen, 6-2, and Joey Bourgeois, Jr., 6-3. On the one-loss side, and in the money, Turner eliminated Mark Cardenas, 6-5, while Bourgeois, Jr. ended Jonathan Hendricks, 6-5. Derek Fontenot fell to Espinosa, 6-4, while Young defended against Courts, 6-3. Winners’ side action witnessed Lenz slide by Sanders, 6-4, and Springs deny Lassek, 6-0, pairing the two in their first, eastside showdown. In a hill-hill thriller, Springs emerged the victor, 6-5, securing his very first, hot seat match. Fighting to stay alive on the one-loss side, Bourgeois, Jr. denied Turner, but fell to Sanders, 6-3, while Espinosa overwhelmed Young, and dominated Lassek, 6-3. Sanders forged ahead, ending Espinosa, 6-3, and Lenz, 6-2, to face Springs in the final. Meeting for the first time, the defending champion left nothing to chance with the undefeated Springs, setting the tone in the first set, 6-3. In overtime, Springs failed to answer, and Sanders cruised to a 6-1 victory, earning his second, open division 9-ball title.

The Pool Scene - COVID-19 - Independent
New Post on https://thepoolscene.com/?p=55597
CSI Statement about COVID-19
Tumblr media
With the news being dominated by COVID-19, many people have asked if the current situation will impact the CueSports International Expo currently underway in Las Vegas which includes the BCA Pool League World Championships, USA Pool League National Championships, Diamond Las Vegas Open & Predator World 10-Ball Championship.
The event began as scheduled on Wednesday, March 11, our members are enjoying the competition and there are no plans to cancel anything. CSI and the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino have no reason to believe anyone at the venue is at risk and the only U.S. travel restrictions currently in place are those from China, Iran, South Korea and Europe.
Tumblr media
The safety and well-being of our customers and staff are our priority and we have been coordinating closely with the Rio and Caesars Entertainment. Although the threat in the U.S. remains extremely low, out of an abundance of caution, the following precautionary measures have been taking place since the start of the event to help prevent the spread of any illnesses.
PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES
Hand sanitizing stations have been placed throughout the Rio Conference Center.
Hard surfaces are being cleaned with antibacterial/antiviral sprays at end of each conference day.
Pool tables are being cleaned frequently.
The concession stands and registration desks are being cleaned with antibacterial/antiviral sprays every hour.
Serving utensils such as ladles, tongs, and spatulas are being changed frequently.
Public and employee restrooms are being continuously inspected for cleanliness, that all soap dispensers are full and working properly and that all faucets have hot and cold water.
Portable hand-washing and sanitizer stations have been placed at all bars.
Unwrapped utensils are no longer being used and have been replaced with wrapped cutlery kits.
Condiment pumps have been replaced with individual condiment packets (i.e. ketchup, mustard, etc.).
Coffee creamer canisters have been replaced with individual coffee creamer cups.
Fruits in which the edible parts must be handled, such as apples, have been removed from the whole fruit selection.
All attendees are encouraged to practice good hygiene, frequent hand-washing and liberal use of hand sanitizer.
Participants are encouraged to not be offended if an opponent prefers to not shake hands. It should not be viewed as poor sportsmanship given the current concerns.
All employees are being reminded during pre-shift meetings about the requirement to wash their hands frequently and for a minimum of 20 seconds under hot water.
Employees who feel ill are required to stay home until they are free of illness.
We are closely monitoring the guidance of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Center for Disease Control (CDC) to ensure we do our part to keep everyone safe.
We understand that many are concerned about COVID-19 and we encourage everyone do what they believe is best for them. However, the CueSports International Expo will continue as planned and we are confident that you will have a safe and enjoyable event. We look forward to seeing you in beautiful Las Vegas for The Greatest Pool Experience in the World.
Sincerely, CueSports International

New Spot on Calendar Not the Only Change at Diamond Las Vegas Open
Tumblr media
Ozzy Reynolds and the staff at CueSports International didn’t exactly have an abundance of time when planning this year’s Diamond Las Vegas Open. With CSI moving the CueSports International Expo from late July in 2019 to mid-March this year, the planning and scheduling began almost immediately after last year’s edition completed.
The good news, according to Reynolds, is that there wasn’t much that needed to be changed for this year’s version of the four-day tournament that is scheduled to get under way today at the Rio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. “The good news is that we did a lot right last year,” said Reynolds. “The Schedule was right on target. It was just a matter of fine tuning.”
Live coverage begins at 10 a.m. local time with Darren Appleton taking on defending World 10-Ball champion Ko Ping-Chung. Immediately following this contest, reigning Mosconi Cup Most Valuable Player Skyler Woodward will face former World 9-Ball champion Carlo Biado, with the match tentatively scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m. The afternoon sessions will kick off with Billiards Congress of America Hall of Famer Francisco Bustamante matching up against five-time US Open 9-Ball champion Shane Van Boening. Competition will continue with 2016 World 9-Ball champion Albin Ouschan of Austria meeting the reigning champion, Russia’s Fedor Gorst.
Other notable Wednesday matches include former World 10-Ball champion Ko Pin-Yi playing Poland’s Mieszko Fortunski, who finished second at last year’s Diamond Las Vegas Open. Later in the day, former Aramith Masters champion Eklent Kaci of Albania faces Masato Yoshioka of Japan, a final eight finisher in last year’s World 10-Ball Championship.
The biggest change which players and fans alike will notice in this year’s version of the Diamond Las Vegas Open is the switch to 10-ball from 9-ball, a move that was made in order to better align the double-elimination tournament with next week’s World 10-Ball Championship as well as eliminate some of the rules and formatting issues that come with 9-ball. “Nine-ball is somewhat problematic on the pro level,” said Reynolds “The change also stays consistent with the Predator World 10-Ball Championship and the other things that we plan to build in the future.”
This consistency also allows tournament organizers to use the event as the final qualifier for next week’s 10-ball championship. Initially, the top two finishers in the Diamond Las Vegas Open who weren’t already entered in the championship were guaranteed bids into the event. However, with a handful of regional qualifiers unable to be held worldwide for a variety of reasons – most notably, restrictions in different countries due to the coronavirus precautions – Reynolds said that at least three at-large spots will be up for grabs this week at the Rio.
Those vying for the remaining entries as well as a $17,000 top prize will be facing a bracket that features some of professional pool’s best, with 39 of the top 50 players in the World Pool and Billiard Association’s rankings matching up in Las Vegas this week. The only two players ranked in the top 20 not competing in this 128-player, double-elimination event are China’s Jiaqing Wu and Haitao Liu, both of whom were prohibited to travel due to coronavirus monitoring.
Tumblr media
One player who will be back at the table this week is returning champion Niels Feijen. The former World 9-ball champion used a pair of break and runs coupled with some unforced errors by opponent Fortunski to claw back from a 7-5 deficit and win, 9-8, in the inaugural event last year. The Dutchman, who opens play against Mickey Krause at 7 p.m. local time, posted an undefeated record in last year’s 9-ball formatted, 106-player tournament.
Another change made to this year’s event was the addition of a 30-second shot clock on the main arena table. “We felt like that was necessary to pick up the pace of play and not bore the fans,” Reynolds said.
The Diamond Las Vegas Open is a presentation of CueSports International and Predator and title-sponsored by Diamond Billiard Products, an industry leader in pocket billiard table manufacturing. Co-sponsors are Omega Billiards and Kamui. The event is being hosted by the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino and will be broadcast live on YouTube by CSI Media, a division of CueSports International. For more information, visit www.world10ball.com.
CueSports International (CSI) is an international billiards organization which produces amateur and professional events around the world. CSI, which also operates amateur pool leagues, has three divisions: CSI Leagues, CSI Events and CSI Media. CSI Leagues manages the BCA Pool League and USA Pool League, CSI Events produces numerous amateur and professional events and CSI Media division creates live video billiards content. The Pool Scene - Predator World 10-Ball Championship - Predator
New Post on https://thepoolscene.com/?p=55577
Less Than One Month Until The Predator World 10-Ball Championship
Tumblr media
Last year, Ping-Chung Ko claimed his first World Championship with a dramatic win in the finals over Joshua Filler. This was part of his incredible 2019, which earned him the WPA #1 ranking he has today.
In less than one month at the Rio All-Suites Hotel and Casino, he’ll have a chance to repeat. The $100,000 added tournament features 64 players in an impressively skilled field. Part of that is due to the appeal of 10-Ball, something Ko appreciates.
“I like 10-ball because it is more difficult to break. Although just one ball more it brings more diversity and visibility to enrich the game,” said Ko. “You need more concentration and more thorough consideration to finish each rack. I enjoy the feelings of playing 10-ball.”
Admission is free for the five-day competition and the event will be streamed live for no charge on Cuesports International’s YouTube channel. Last year’s event was the first Category 1 WPA sanctioned world championship held in the United States since 1997.
Players already confirmed and announced include Ko, former World 9-Ball Champion Joshua Filler, Billiard’s Digest player of the decade Shane Van Boening, Kremlin Cup winner Tyler Styer, 2017 World Games 9-Ball Champion Carlo Biado and reigning Mosconi Cup MVP Skyler Woodward.
More announcements will be made as we continue to finalize what is one of the most competitive fields of the year.
Tumblr media
The Championship takes place over two stages. The first involves all players competing in a race to 8 matches in a double-elimination format until only 16 competitors remain. The surviving players then play in a single-elimination format during the second half of the event, with the race now increased to 10 games. The final phase features re-drawing of the brackets where competitors from the winner’s side take on players from the one-loss side.

Tumblr media
Matchroom Pool recently acquired the rights in perpetuity to host the World Pool Championship from 2020, with the event set for October 14-18 at a venue to be announced. MATCHROOM POOL LAUNCHES WORLD RANKINGS
Tumblr media
Matchroom Pool has today launched its own World Rankings as well as Team Europe and Team USA rankings for the partypoker Mosconi Cup.
The Matchroom Pool World Rankings consist of major events from around the globe, while the separate European and USA Team rankings include all World Ranking events as well as additional events from across Europe and USA respectively.
For Team Europe, the top three players on the European Ranking will automatically qualify for Alex Lely’s team. On the American Ranking, the top two players will join Jeremy Jones’ roster for their title defence in London this December.
World Rankings The Matchroom Pool World Rankings are split into six tiers based on a number of factors including total prize money, added money and tournament format. The Matchroom Pool World Rankings will be used as guidance when inviting players for World Cup of Pool and World Pool Masters, and as one of the rankings to determine seedings for the US Open 9-Ball from 2021.
A full list of events and the rankings so far can be found here: http://www.matchroompool.com/world-rankings/
A points breakdown of points awarded per event can be downloaded here: http://www.matchroompool.com/wp-content/uploads/Matchroom-Pool-World-Ranking-Points-allocation.pdf
Team Europe Rankings Unlike previous years, there will only be one European ranking list. This is a combination of the World Ranking events and smaller events played in Europe, including all Euro Tour events. The rankings have been restricted to include six tiers, however no event receives fewer points than previously.
A full list of events and the rankings so far can be found here: http://www.matchroompool.com/mosconi-cup/#teamEurope
Team USA Rankings As with the European Ranking, this is a combination of the World Ranking events and smaller events played across America. A list of American events will be published in due course.
Emily Frazer, Matchroom Multi Sport COO, said: “Global expansion of professional pool is our aim at Matchroom Pool and launching our own World Rankings is a key part of us achieving our vision. Owning five of the majors within the sport allows us to push pool to boundaries it has never seen before. Standard of play is strengthening, and younger, motivated players are travelling and now on the scene, however there is not many a player out there earning a real decent wage from the amount of events on the current circuit.
Tumblr media
“Introducing rankings firstly gives players the opportunity to rightly earn their place in our own events on merit, encouraging more players to travel to various events. Secondly, we are focused on our tiered system ensuring that organisers and promoters are adding the maximum prize money, as well as motivating others to get involved and introduce new tournaments. Points have not always been rewarded appropriately according to added money or level of organisation and or production.
“This is a work-in-progress but we are confident we have a firm base structure to start with. It is time for us all to improve the level of our pool events and give our professional athletes a realistic chance to earn a career and for us in turn to build this fantastic sport.”
Any promoter wishing their event to be considered as a Matchroom Pool ranking event should contact [email protected].

MATCHROOM POOL ACQUIRES WORLD 9-BALL CHAMPIONSHIP
Tumblr media
Matchroom Pool has acquired the rights in perpetuity to host the World 9-Ball Championship from 2020 in a ground-breaking agreement with the WPA.
The World 9-Ball Championship joins Matchroom Pool’s portfolio of major events and will benefit from increased prize money and global TV coverage. The 2020 World 9-Ball Championship will be staged from Wednesday, October 14 until Sunday, October 18 at a venue to be announced in due course.
Matchroom Pool previously staged the World 9-Ball Championship from 1999 to 2008 and will apply its world-renowned promotion, TV production and arena staging to this prestigious event.
Matchroom Sport Chairman and BCA Hall of Fame promoter Barry Hearn said: “This is great news for pool fans and pool players all over the world. We are making a big push on 9-ball pool and we’ve had a lot of success over the last 12 months, particularly with the US Open which was sensational in Las Vegas. But this will be even bigger for the world of pool.
“We’ll have 128 players, prize money will go up, the event will be open to men and women and it will be televised all over the world. This is a major addition to Matchroom Pool and I think a real huge benefit to pool players and pool fans all around the world.
“This sport is on fire and we are looking forward to 2020 more than I can tell you. We’ll have more details on the venue and prize money soon and get ready for another Matchroom Pool spectacular event.”
Ian Anderson, President of the WPA, added: “The WPA is delighted to extend its partnership with Matchroom and to have its flagship event back with them. With Matchroom applying its most capable talents, it is highly anticipated this event will grow to be the biggest on our calendar.
“This is a real shot in the arm for our sport, nobody doubts Matchroom’s ability to promote sporting events, and we are very pleased to be associated with them. We look forward to a long and fruitful relationship.”
Full details of the 2020 World 9-Ball Championship, including venue, prize money, format and qualification details will be announced over the coming weeks.

JONES TAKES ON TEAM USA CAPTAINCY
Tumblr media
Jeremy Jones will captain Team USA as they go for the three-peat at the 2020 partypoker Mosconi Cup at Alexandra Palace, London this December 1-4.
Jones, a former US Open champion and five-time Mosconi Cup winner, has been vice-captain to Johan Ruijsink as USA won back the Cup from Team Europe in London in 2018 and successfully defended it in Las Vegas last November. Jones has appointed Joey Gray as his Vice-Captain.
Jones said: “After the last couple of years I think me and the guys realize it’s about creating confidence, comfort and knowing our team has each other’s back. Along with serious training, that is what makes a winning team.
“So this next year will be much more of that and not standing still at all. We are professionals and a high standard is required and expected and our guys know this. They have learned to respect this while loving the challenge; that’s called heart!
“For my vice-captain, I thought of many worthy names for many reasons but Joey Gray was the first and last one to enter my mind. Joey is a great player, great dude and very involved in improving pool. I’ve known him for many, many years and feel he’ll mix with any five we go with. I personally can’t wait to work alongside him. 2020 is going to be awesome.”
Gray, a professional player and instructor based out of Oklahoma, said: “I was floored when I was asked to participate as Vice-Captain. Words could not explain. It was probably the best phone call I have ever received. I will never forget the moment I was asked. I always give 100 percent to what I put my mind to and this will be my life’s biggest goal. To represent Team USA as Vice-Captain is a dream come true.”

Jones moves into the Captaincy role having been vice-coach to Ruijsink, who led Team USA from 2017 and lifted the Cup in 2018 and 2019. Matchroom Pool would like to thank Johan for his hard work in helping Team USA become a winning team again.
Team USA Rankings will return in 2020 with two players to earn their spot on the team from the rankings with the remaining three places to be chosen by Captain Jones as wildcards. Full details of the Team USA Rankings will be announced later in January.
