*slight spoilers*
So at this point its starting to become clear the dracula intends to turn Lucy, not just feed off her. Every other victim of his in since he left the castle has been drained and killed in one go. He's keeping her alive for a reason.
He intends for her to be one of his "brides" (they arent actually called that in the book but its how theyve become known in pop culture)
These female vampires are interesting as they are the most unambiguously monsterous characters we encounter in the whole story. They don't get the charm of dracula or even the development of Renfield.
But Lucy is destined to be one of them.
And I can't help but wonder if all tbis has happened before. Who these women were before they became the crazy temptress figures they tend to be portrayed as? If someone tried to save them once too

How much you must have hurt me for my love to end.
My love for you was overwhelming— so unbearable to my own heart.
I had believed that my life would end if we were to part ways.
We parted ways.
I am also in utter disbelief at how I endured the grief of your separation.
The grief of ending things with you was immense and heavier than anything. But as the poets have said— there is a relief in goodbyes.
Perhaps, love ends when pain becomes greater than the love itself.
Endings are liberating.
