I have to confess something to you guys..... up until now... I've had.... dog privilege.

The privilege of owning dogs that DON'T want to Eat Every Bug/Leaf/Stick on walks. (Even my Boston Terrier, who was extremely food motivated, did not care for the lawn charcuterie.) This is kinda new territory for me.

I'm learning.

For legal reasons, this post is for fun only. I am not asking for, nor do I need, dog training advice.

Happy Wednesday, everyone! Time Loop AU is slowly, but surely coming to an end, so here's a little something that gives us another peek into Carlos and Nancy's friendship :)

“Any updates?” Carlos asks, taking a meager sip of his dark roast.

“He’s still fighting,” Nancy answers softly before taking another sip. This time she lets the residue last a little longer, trying to latch onto something sweet during something so bitter. Eventually she licks her lips before continuing. “Tommy’s trying to get in touch with Owen.”

“How are you?” Carlos asks, glancing over Nancy and seeing her hand shaking slightly.

“Me?” Nancy questions back with a counterfeit smile on her face. Carlos can tell the question is supposed to be jovial and facetious, but the facade is barely hanging on. “How are you?”

Carlos knows what Nancy’s trying to do; she’s trying to answer a question with a question to avoid being honest about how she really feels. It’s a page from his very own playbook.

“You saw him fall through the ice, Nance,” Carlos replies, addressing the unavoidable.

“Yeah,” Nancy agrees but her reply is void of emotion; nothing more than a courteous response. She looks down at her hands, focusing on the hand that’s faced up and not currently wrapped around a coffee.

“You know it’s funny,” She begins, licking across the surface of her lips in hopes of capturing the taste of something sweet. “My hands keep shaking from the cold water, but I’ve been dry for a while.”

Hii. TK limps less now, but still moves slowly, and Carlos quickly springs into action when he sees the vase is in the upper cupboards, TK stretching up on his toes.

“Let me.” Carlos  swoops in. TK only hums, ever happy today it seems. It makes him dare to add, “Have you thought about using crutches until you’re better? I’m sure if you saw a doctor—”

“It’s fine. It barely hurts anymore.”

“It would heal faster if you didn’t walk on it. Would a paramedic really argue with that?”

TK stands beside him at the basin as Carlos fills the dark green vase with water. “Carlos. You worry too much.”

“I’m pretty sure I’m worrying the appropriate amount about this.”

TK snatches the bouquet before Carlos can protest and carefully undoes the wrapping paper like it contains glass instead of flowers. Then, he tries to put them into the vase opening. He misses, the opening tight and the stems thick, but Carlos can see from the side that it’s a bit off-center too. It takes patience to wait and watch until TK finally manages it. Carlos doesn’t want to be overbearing, once again.

“What do you wanna do now?” TK asks, placing the flowers on the kitchen island and leaning back with his hip against it.

It seems so natural when TK stretches out an open hand and for Carlos to grasp it and breathe easier. TK’s skin is cool but smooth, like a river stone that Carlos can warm. The kiss in the elevator had been a welcome, but the next one contains the longing to stay and overstay. Open Tag &
