So, I’m setting up an overall Language learning journal. This journal can be as messy or organized as I want. It’s probably, hopefully, going to be filled with a lot of different languages. Hopefully, I’ll be successful in learning. I am keeping separate journals for each specific language, that way I can make it all pretty/differentiate in their respective journals. Any language learning tips would be great :) I grew up in a bilingual home but have lost a lot of my native language. I did learn French in HS and in college. So, I’d say my Tagalog and my French is probably about even due to how much I’ve been able to maintain. There’s quite a lot of languages I hope to learn, but I want today to mark me beginning my journey. :)
“but do you really think Biden is better than–” YES YOU STUPID FUCKS, YES, I REALLY REALLY THINK THAT A MARGINALLY LEFT-WING MOSTLY LAW-ABIDING ADMINISTRATION IS A BETTER OPTION THAN KEEPING THE CURRENT OPENLY CRIMINAL FASCIST ORGANIZATION IN POWER. YES I THINK AN INEPT BUT SLIGHTLY PROGRESSIVE EXECUTIVE BRANCH IS A BETTER OPTION THAN THE ADMINISTRATION THAT IS ACTIVELY MURDERING ITS CITIZENS WITH COVID, KIDNAPPING PROTESTERS, COMMITTING ELECTION FRAUD ON A MASSIVE SCALE, LOCKING CHILDREN IN CAGES, DESTROYING LIVES AND LITERALLY BRINGING BACK NAZIS. YES I REALLY DO THINK THERE IS A DIFFERENCE SHUT UP SHUT UP STOP TELLING PEOPLE NOT TO VOTE YOU STUPID STUPID FUCKS YOU ARE LITERALLY SIGNING US UP FOR 4 MORE YEARS OF TRUMP SHUUUUUUUUT UUUUPPP!!!!!
some things i’ve learned while studying in quarantine
drink more water instead of more coffee.
weekly goals are bullshit. set yourself 3-day goals. you’ll be less laid-back.
don’t just mindlessly stare at words. before you start studying, know your approach to it. have a plan.
summarizing the concept in your own words is the key part of taking notes. don’t just copy things down, convert them into your own way of talking, your own vocabulary, no matter how dumb and unprofessional it sounds.
don’t let the “studyblr aesthetic” fool you. studying doesn’t have to be pretty. summaries and notes can be messy as long as they’re comprehensible. you can always rewrite and reorganize them later. (honestly, you better do. and you better keep them.)
don’t throw away the papers you’ve solved your problems in. staple them to the fucking textbook. you need to see them constantly. cause you’ll need reminders of how far you’ve came, when you’re feeling discouraged.
don’t be an armchair analyst for your issues. if you have an idea then act on it.
remember: the exact point where it becomes difficult, is where your growth begins. take a deep breath, and try to focus on the paragraph in front of you.
get off your high horse and understand that if you’re a zero, you won’t go to 100 in a couple of days. first, you’ll need to reach 30, then from 30 to 60, and then from 60 to 90. nobody is 100 everyday. that happens very rarely.
you need to have fun everyday. you need to have peaceful time every single day. even on exam night. especially on exam night, actually. so make sure you’ve studied enough so you can have some time to yourself.
once you’re on a roll and in need of some challenge to stay on track, start writing down your studying hours. tell yourself you’re not allowed to do less than 80% of what you did yesterday. whatever the hell it was, even just one hour. so if yesterday you really studied for like, say 8 hours, today your goal is to study for at least 6 and a half hours. if you can’t keep up with that, make it 70%, or 60%.
be forgiving of yourself. be kind to yourself. even if you bounced back and lost your streak. start again. as slowly as you did before. take your time. it’s okay, you were there once you can get there again.
I’m calling myself out - I have so many pretty notebooks at home, and I just keep buying new ones, telling myself that I’m going to use them. You know, like a liar.
After battling with the usual ‘ah, this is too pretty to be used for x and y’ thoughts, I actually had fun with these different types.
1. A personal diary
Feels good to write down your thoughts and experiences at the end of the day, huh? It doesn’t have to be extremely organized - since your emotions usually are not in a aesthetic-bullet-journal kind of shape.
Collect movie tickets, bills or some stickers in it. Doodles from when you were bored during class? Even better.
Language learners, if you really want to go hardcore, you could write some of the logs in your target language!
Hey babes, a hot topic lately is people doing nothing about the Amazon rain forest burning so here's a way that you can do something!
Here's a search engine called Ecosia. It plants trees with it's profits! All you do is use Ecosia instead of Google and the money it gets from ad revenue goes to planting trees. Actually 80% of the revenue goes to planting trees. Its literally the same thing as Google or Bing but instead of going into people's pockets, it goes to the trees.
The app is free and the website displays all of their financial records so we can hold them accountable.
hi guys !! one of my v sweet friends recently launched a free (!) chrome extension called ‘deprocrastination’ to help people increase their productivity by limiting access to distracting sites at certain times of the day and since a lot of you work or are starting school soon i thought i’d mention it on here!! 🌸
it also has a timer that lets you set work/break periods based on the type of work you’re doing but personally my fav part is you earn points for being productive which unlocks more features!!
as an incentive (bc i truly adore this friend) if you download it or leave a rating/feedback pls dm me and i’ll make you a gifset, icon set, or header of anyone you’d like!! i’m posting this as a favor (not an ad!!) so it would rly mean the world to me if you’d check it out 🤧💖
every semester, without fail, there’s some freshman who’s like “oh I never check my email lol” and i get worried for them, bc they’re going to miss some important email about a pop quiz or a test, or something and then fail. so if you’re a freshman reading this, CHECK YOUR EMAIL im not joking, professors will send you stuff via email that they’ll never mention in class. I’m in my email every hour on the hour before and after class. check that shit. put that app on ur phone, turn on notifs, go in and refresh every hour, check your spam, check your email
this has been a message from your concerned dad. check ur email, do well in school, i love you
