HOW MANY DIMENSIONS EXIST??
Blog#347
Wednesday, November 8th, 2023
Welcome back,
The world as we know it has three dimensions of space—length, width and depth—and one dimension of time. But there’s the mind-bending possibility that many more dimensions exist out there. According to string theory, one of the leading physics model of the last half century, the universe operates with 10 dimensions.
Tumblr media
But that raises a big question: If there are 10 dimensions, then why don’t we experience all of them or haven’t detected them? Lisa Grossman at ScienceNews reports that a new paper suggests an answer, showing that those dimensions are so tiny and so fleeting that we currently can’t detect them.
It’s difficult to completely explain the mathematics behind string theory without putting on a graduate seminar or two, but in essence dimensions five through ten have to do with possibility and include all possible futures and all possible pasts including realities with a totally different physics than those in our universe.
Tumblr media
If two protons smash together at high enough speeds, they have the ability to create a tiny black hole that would exist for just a fraction of a second before disappearing, according to a new study, which hasn't been peer-reviewed, on the preprint server arXiv.org. The collision would open up a little bubble of interdimensional space where the laws of physics are different than ours, leading to an event known as vacuum decay. In quantum physics, vacuum decay implies that if the interdimensional space was large enough, we’d be toast.
Tumblr media
With enough gravity to interact with our world, the newly formed “Cosmic Death Bubble” would grow at the speed of light, rapidly change the physics of our universe, render it uninhabitable and effectively zap us out of existence.
“If you’re standing nearby when the bubble starts to expand, you don’t see it coming,” the study’s co-author, physicist Katie Mack of North Carolina State University, tells Grossman. “If it’s coming at you from below, your feet stop existing before your mind realizes that.”
Tumblr media
Ultrahigh energy cosmic rays are bashing into each other all the time with enough energy to start this process. If extra dimensions were large enough to allow the death bubble to form, the researchers found, it would have happened thousands of times already. The fact that we still exist is one circumstantial piece of evidence that other dimensions are ultra-tiny. The team calculated that they must be smaller than 16 nanometers, too small for their gravity to influence much in our world and hundreds of times smaller than previous calculations, Grossman reports.
Tumblr media
The new study comes on the tail of another study about extra dimensions published in the Journal of Cosmology and Astroparticle Physics published in July. Mara Johnson-Groh at LiveScience reports that one of the big questions in physics is why the expansion of the universe is accelerating. One theory is that gravity is leaking out of our universe into other dimensions. To test this idea, researchers looked at data from recently discovered gravitational waves.
our universe was leaking gravity through these other dimensions, the researchers reasoned, then the gravitational waves would be weaker than expected after traveling across the universe.
Tumblr media
But the researchers found they didn’t lose any energy on their long journey, meaning other dimensions either don’t exist or are so tiny they don’t affect gravity very much, if at all.
“General relativity says gravity should be working in three dimensions, and [the results] show that that’s what we see,” physicist Kris Pardo of Princeton, lead author of the July study, tells Johnson-Groh. The latest study also concludes that the size of extra dimensions is so small that it precludes many theories about gravity leaking out of our universe.

I've been working on this project for a while and I think it's time to show them off. These are propaganda/health and safety reminder posters for the Office for the Preservation of Normalcy, an organization that deals with the supernatural in a canon I'm working on. I have some lore I'm working on, but these posters will be the main thing that exists for now. The "sample" watermark is because I would like to sell higher-quality printouts and files in the future.
At this stage I'm looking for feedback. How do they look visually? Could a tagline be punchier? Please please let me know what you think.

Syncretic
For a time traveler, the concept of several deities being the same deity, or being connected to each other by the chain of their similarities, is just another part of the job. We can see where religions fade into one another, where one deity in one location and another deity in a different place overlap and become one. But as goes with time so often, the sameness is merely illusory.
Bast is not Isis is not Diana is not Hecate. These four are not the same, not exactly, and not in truth either. Some humans may see them as the same, from one angle or another, and when one stares the right way down the corridor of time the silhouettes overlap perfectly. Four silhouettes overlapping, though, is still four shadows, is still four deities. They may march in sync, they may sound alike and sing in chorus, they may make decisions much like one another.
But four bodies marching in step are four bodies, not one. The march itself may be one thing, and certainly all four deities are participating in that march. The march is not the deity. The deities are not the same.
We could think of it more accurately as syncronic, not syncretic. They are coordinated, perhaps by the heavens and their movements, perhaps by humanity and its zeitgeist. But they are separate, free, independent, as every human is from one another while still being part of the same Humanity.

DOES MASS INCREASE WHEN NEARING THE SPEED OF LIGHT??
Blog#302
Saturday, June 3rd, 2023
Welcome back,
No matter who you are, where you are, or how quickly you’re moving, the laws of physics will appear exactly the same to you as they will to any other observer in the Universe. This concept — that the laws of physics don’t change as you move from one location to another or one moment to the next — is known as the principle of relativity, and it goes all the way back not to Einstein, but even farther: to at least the time of Galileo.
Tumblr media
If you exert a force on an object, it will accelerate (i.e., change its momentum), and the amount of its acceleration is directly related to the force on the object divided by its mass. In terms of an equation, this is Newton’s famous F = ma: force equals mass times acceleration.
But when we discovered particles that moved close to the speed of light, suddenly a contradiction emerged. If you exert too large of a force on a small mass, and forces cause acceleration, then it should be possible to accelerate a massive object to reach or even exceed the speed of light! This isn’t possible, of course, and it was Einstein’s relativity that gave us a way out.
Tumblr media
It was commonly explained by what we call “relativistic mass,” or the notion that as you got closer to the speed of light, the mass of an object increased, so the same force would cause a smaller acceleration, preventing you from ever reaching the speed of light. But is this “relativistic mass” interpretation correct? Only kind of. Here’s the science of why.
The first thing it’s vital to understand is that the principle of relativity, no matter how quickly you’re moving or where you’re located, is still always true: the laws of physics really are the same for everyone, regardless of where you’re located or when you’re making that measurement.
Tumblr media
The thing that Einstein knew (that both Newton and Galileo had no way of knowing) was this: the speed of light in a vacuum must be exactly the same for everyone. This is a tremendous realization that runs counter to our intuition about the world.
Imagine you’ve got a car that can travel at 100 kilometers per hour (62 mph). Imagine, attached to that car, you’ve got a cannon that can accelerate a cannonball from rest to that exact same speed: 100 kilometers per hour (62 miles per hour).
Tumblr media
Now, imagine your car is moving and you fire that cannonball, but you can control which way the cannon is pointed.
If you point the cannon in the same direction that the car is moving, the cannonball will move at 200 kph (124 mph): the car’s speed plus the cannonball’s speed.
If you point the cannon upward while the car moves forward, the cannonball will move at 141 kph (88 mph): a combination of forward and upward, at a 45 degree angle.
Tumblr media
And if you point the cannon in reverse, firing the cannonball backward while the car moves forward, the cannonball will come out at 0 kph (0 mph): the two speeds will exactly cancel each other out.
This is what we commonly experience and also lines up with what we expect. And this is also experimentally true, at least, for the non-relativistic world. But if we replaced that cannon with a flashlight instead, the story would be very different. You can take a car, a train, a plane, or a rocket, traveling at whatever speed you like, and shine a flashlight from it in any direction you like.
Tumblr media
That flashlight will emit photons at the speed of light, or 299,792,458 m/s, and those photons will always travel at that same exact speed.
You can fire the photons in the same direction your vehicle is moving, and they’ll still move at 299,792,458 m/s.
You can fire the photons at an angle to the direction that you’re moving, and while this might change the direction-of-motion of the photons, they’ll still move at that same speed: 299,792,458 m/s.
Tumblr media
And you can fire the photons directly reversed to your direction of motion, and still, they’ll travel at 299,792,458 m/s.
That speed that the photons travel at will be the same as ever, the speed of light, not only from your perspective, but from the perspective of anyone looking on. The only difference that anyone will see, dependent on how fast both you (the emitter) and they (the observer) are moving, is in the wavelength of that light: redder (longer-wavelength) if you’re mutually moving away from each other, bluer (shorter-wavelength) if you’re moving mutually toward each other.

Hey uh, the Time Travel 101/201 etc guides that I posted on @badoccultadvice awhile back.... I uh... I don't remember having written them. I read through one and it's all new to me.
So I guess what I'm saying is, if you're a time traveler and you're confused, try going through your old journal entries and seeing if a future version of you already went back in time and wrote down some instructions for your present self to read now.
Creezus.

Of all the skills and abilities a time traveler develops, the most important one is a strong sense of self-restraint, especially for anybody who travels in their sleep or daydreams. If you assume that every time you lucid dream you're in a fantasy where you can do anything you want, you're going to get a nasty wake-up call when the real person in a physical body whose actual life you're spending time in has a problem with your inability to control your urges.

So is like reality shifting/quantum leaping/body hopping useful?
This is not an article trying to teach anyone anything this is just a grumpy old man being kind of complainy and knocking concepts around so don't expect to be learning much here.
So like one of the things anyone asks about a type of magic or psychic technique early on is "how can I use this in my life" or "what can I do with this?"
There are two types of psychic powers: stuff you can do on purpose FOR a purpose and stuff that just happens to you and you deal with it. This would be the difference between having a swimmer's build and having chronic fatigue syndrome. Most people don't consider CFS to be an evolutionary or societal or really any advantage, a special ability as it were. But it's characteristics you can be born with just like being IDK predisposed to being totally fucking ripped.
So when it comes to having a trait most people want to think about having an "ability," but psychic traits aren't necessarily ableing traits. Some seem outright disabling, or at the very least, confounding.
Body hopping is one of those traits that I think comes out as a wash until you get very lucky or very good at it, and "getting very good at it" is merely hypothetical for me at this juncture. This all feels more like something that is happening to me than something I am doing.
This is not even addressing the issue of how to "prove" body hopping happens, something I am very personally invested in at this point just for the principle of the thing.
At least I'm not wasting half my life trying to read Zener cards or something, turns out almost all of that testing was a complete waste of time for those guys due to factors which would have been difficult for them to mitigate.
The big barrier is information. Moving tangible information between non-interacting bodies that is useful and timely is difficult to prove and somewhat difficult to do. I know there's no working prototype for a Small Modular Reactor and that the steel quality is not the only impediment to fixing the pressurization problem, but this knowledge is not only not very useful to me, but I'm not placed to give it to anyone else it would be useful for. Sometimes info does manage to get me some personal gain but it's usually in the weirdest ways that are very difficult to consistently verify. The nature of reality shifting is that reality being shifty means it's hard to prove or use anything because nothing is consistent.
This has been a series of complaints about how time travel is garbage, thank you, please come again.
