I think a big reason why "children are an oppressed group" gets (wrongly!) read as a "pedophile talking point" is that everyone treats children so terribly that actual child molesters can speedrun winning a kid's trust by like, actually respecting their needs and perspective, at least at first. Which means that the only way out of this mess is for all of us adults to treat children with respect, so that abusers can't use the rareness of that respect as a weapon.

January 29, 2023 - Some uplifting news from the US:
Neo-nazi piece of shit Teddy von Nukem (his legal name lmao), who featured in some of the viral photos from the tiki torch march in Charlottesville, killed himself at age 35, a day before his trial for drug trafficking was set to begin.
He was also one of the attackers in the brutal beating of DeAndre Harris in Charlottesville the next day, but was never charged for that, despite being identified in video. But anyway, he’s dead now lol. Good riddance to bad rubbish. [link]

It’s so interesting (re: crazy) to me that so many men don’t consume more woman created/centered media. Like the amount of men I know in real life and online who don’t listen to any women musicians, watch any woman led/created tv, movies, online content, or even just have any women public figures that they respect outside of their appearance is so jarring to me. I work with teenagers and so many of the boys don’t look up to any women (besides their mothers) as leaders or heroes. I honestly think if men even gave like 5% of their content consumption to women the world could be a better place just by virtue of them feeling an iota of empathy and respect to women.
Agree. men don't respect women enough to contribute to developing their intellectual, political, creative, social environments in any meaningful way. a lot of people argue against women's separatism as it's "too impractical" to center women, but men consciously cater their lives to total male separatism all the time.
they can call women's novels too romantic, women's tv unrelatable, chick flicks suck, our music just isn't their taste, female sports are too weak, they just don't want women as close friends or whatever excuse. it's considered perfectly reasonable and fun when they put "no women allowed!" on the mancave door. But its insane manhating bitch behavior when we do it for our peace and safety 🤷🏾‍♀️

the commodification of friendship is the most annoying thing to come out of the internet in ages. like actually i love to break this to you but you're supposed to help your friends move even if it's hard work. or stay up with them when they're sad even if you're gonna lose sleep. you're supposed to listen to their fears and sorrows even if it means your own mind takes on a little bit of that weight. that's how you know that you care. they will drive you to the airport and then you will make them soup when they're sick. you're supposed to make small sacrifices for them and they are supposed to do that for you. and there's actually gonna be rough patches for both of you where the balance will be uneven and you will still be friends and it will not be unhealthy and they will not be abusive. life is not meant to be an endless prioritization of our own comfort if it was we would literally never get anywhere ever. jesus.

as soon as the internet decided depression and anxiety were the everyman mental illnesses and therefore not to be taken seriously we were all fucked tbh bc the fact that i have to feel embarrassed to admit i have debilitating anxiety because people will think im just an uwu dont call me out coward is ridiculous. its insane that i have to clarify that my depressive episodes are like life threatening and not whatever dipshit dumbed down idea of depression people seem to have like oh yeah i just wanna watch netflix and eat ice cream and not text people back. like bro i think im the devil
EDIT: I AM NOT SAYING BEHAVIOURS LIKE WATCHING TV AND EATING ICE CREAM AND NOT TEXTING PEOPLE BACK ARENT CONSEQUENTIAL. they are. im saying they are not the height of depression as a disorder and while potentially precursors or symptoms of an oncoming life threatening depression induced incident, theyre more socially acceptable and "relatable" because YOU CAN EXPERIENCE THESE WITHOUT IT BEING A MENTAL ILLNESS. loads of people WHO ARE NOT DEPRESSED can and do experience this. loads of people who dont have depression THE DISORDER experience suicidality too. but theres a difference between having some off days and having debilitating depression that will fucking kill you.
you are all literally so annoying. this post was spat out when i was half asleep just venting on my fucking personal blog. stop fucking projecting on me.

Welcome twitter users fleeing the absolute cesspool that twitter is going to become as Musk gets his way with his awful ideas! Things are better here, and hey, if you're an old user coming back, they've actually improved shit!
Here's a list of important notes for tumblr usage:
Don't censor words, particularly trigger warnings. Tumblr has a very functional blacklist (found in your settings) that can filter by post content and/or tags. But the word needs to actually be present for the filter to work. Censoring words like r*pe is actively harmful to people attempting to avoid those topics.
Use tags liberally, you have as many as you want, but don't tag unrelated shit. You'll get reported for spam really fast if you do.
Set an avatar and reblog things, otherwise you look like a bot.
You are not obligated to have your real name anywhere in your blog/bio/etc. Most people here use handles.
You can turn your ask box & anons on or off if you are experiencing any kind of harassment. You can also turn off replies on your posts, and turn off reblogs if you need to.
Tumblr has keyboard shortcuts on desktop. You can find them listed under the blog/account menu. Go learn them, they make life so much easier.
Reblog things. Seriously. Also set your dash in chronological order. You can maintain several blogs if need be, but reblogging things is normal, expected, and how you pass along stuff you enjoy.
The majority of people aren't reading your card/dni/blog bio before they reblog stuff. Posts get passed around and the OP often isn't the focal point of the post. Learn to live with it.
Fic writers: you have unlimited words, do not post fics as images.
Reblogs with comments/tags are encouraged. It's not like twitter's QRTs. The OP will see everything there. Know that before you comment.
You have a queue. This means you can set posts up ahead of time to run while you're busy. You can also completely ignore this and just spam your follows whenever you're online. Both are very commonplace
It's not weird to go through someone's blog and reblog old posts. That's actually very normal. If you add /chrono to the end of a tumblr page then you can view all the posts in chronological order to make this easier.
"Spam" liking and reblogging isn't a thing that is a problem. This is invented by people I do not understand. If someone claims this is a problem, they can learn how to turn off or manage their notifications.
The only form of promotional posts that tumblr has is "blaze". There is no ad targeting or any kind of invasions of privacy with blaze. You just get subjected to w/e someone wants to show you. If you want to give tumblr some money to help the company keep going and providing an alternative to twitter, it's not a bad way to do it. You can make people look at cat photos.
Also, we have fun colors here. Plus actual formatting ability. Use it!
People lie on here for fun. Don't accept everything you see at face value, check the reblogs/replies or google something if you're skeptical! Critical thinking is good!
Above all else, be chill, use your block button if you need to, and have fun.

i come off as a #hater most of the time but the truth is i rlly do like being in communities for things i like the problem is that a lot of the time fan discussion centers entirely on shipping and shipping discourse and not like, talking about interesting or fun facets of that thing. and it sucks bc i love to examine details i like about my interests and figure out why they work and themes etc and it’s fun but it’s hard to talk about that stuff when a majority of conversation on that given property is interpreting everything as a romantic gesture . am i making sense.

I’ll never be used to the term “consuming” media because it reminds me so much how capitalism has turned media, already mostly corporate products, into being content to be consumed and regurgitated by the audience to each other as wikipedia summaries rather than as art to be experienced
You’re not supposed to read/watch/play things so you can wear a hat that says ’ did it’ you were supposed to be made to feel something

I say this with love in my heart I know it's easy to find comfort in groups, bands, actors, etc. but please don't let your happiness depend on them. they're people who can seem to be great and wonderful but in reality can be actual monsters. love them, enjoy their art but every once in a while remind yourself you don't really know who's on the other side
