dear pnpm team: why did you not make a version of your software that's backwards compatible with the previous version of your file format and a manual migration command. so that one can upgrade the software, then ensure their collaborators all have it upgraded and working over some nonzero period of time, then upgrade the file format.

if you want to actually start to end homelessness, you need to give homeless people unconditional homes, including when we use them to do drugs or sit around drinking. either housing is unconditional or it isn’t

most of you would not like most street homeless people, I definitely don’t and didn’t when I was street homeless. for every one person who uses unconditional shelter to turn themselves around, someone else will do jack shit and very slowly, if ever, work through the issues that made them homeless, will maybe never be able to live independently. still better than street homelessness, still worth doing. ultimately either you believe that shelter should be universal or you don’t

I'm sure people have good reasons for not allowing replies but like... I'm never quite sure if that's communicating that they don't want to hear what I would have commented or not? (or e.g. whether they would like to get it as a dm or ask, or e.g. whether in an ideal world this post would allow replies from non mutuals but others would not, or e.g. whether they actually do want open replies but aren't aware of or have forgotten about or erroneously toggled the setting).

obviously in most cases for me these are posts asking the general public for technical assistance, which I assume means they do want responses in that particular case. but when I'm just scrolling my dash, I have no idea. say what you will about having, like, a dni list in pinned, but it does at least encourage a culture of being explicit and clear about what kinds of interaction you do and don't want, which is cool.

if I post that I need to go find a more permanent gp it makes it real. which I don't want because the idea of interacting with anything outside of my immediate comfort zone and the fact that I do need to do that to feel worth anything make me uncomfortable in a way I don't really have a description for* because I don't let myself do that. but logically it's probably a good idea

*realistically, objectively... probably not that bad? it's really a princess and pea sort of thing. that's not to discount it entirely, though, doing that is also unproductive I suppose

Pro tip: maybe try to avoid getting a song stuck in your head for the better part of a week that's made up of vocal harmonies complicated enough that you don't understand them (and that even if you understood you obviously can't hum, having a single set of vocal cords and all).

skimmed this, but. ah boy here we go. I still strongly hold that ones's ability to form an emotional attachment to something shouldn't influence their understanding of what it isn't—we anthropomorphize far lesser things—but people are going to find that really damn hard, and I think that's the real danger here.
