I don't think anyone criticising dream has said anything too bad, but it's just the hypocricy that annoys me a lot. Dream is not allowed to tweet back at strangers criticising him but Miz is allowed to show a strangers tweet on his stream to many thousand viewers. Dream is not allowed to joke about gay with his friend while both being mlm but straight man Lud is allowed to make a joke.. It's really just people finding anything to hate Dream about bc he's annoying and stubborn.

- While the criticism may be okay for the most part (there are some people who really don’t get that he does not have that much control over his fans at this point in the fandom lifespan; they’re very self-organised), the hate is what’s seriously derranged. Like I’m still shocked at how his full name was apparently trending 😭

- You’re right about how people like Miz (and Hasan, and really any other drama streamer) can pull up and discuss tweets all the time, and it’s rarely seen as like, toxic or insighting hate 😭 The difference is perhaps the medium seperation (you can’t click through to someone’s tweet from a stream like you can from a Twitter reply), and the fact that these people have smaller and less insane fanbases than Dream does. Also honestly who TF cares about Miz 😭 Like everyone loves a Drontroversy hashtag Dreamout moment. He’s a lolcow. People don’t give a fuck about the drama-thirsty shit a lot of other CCs do. Hasan is probably the closest I can think of to a CC who gets a Dream-style treatment, and even then....

- Dream is not MLM in any serious capacity. He’s likely questioning to some extent, don’t get me wrong, but lighthearted jokes about ‘some guys being okay too’ does not an MLM make. They’re too non-serious to be able to be separated from, well, queerbaiting. Dream doesn’t have to label himself specifically, but it’s inaccurate to call him MLM until he says somethin decently serious about liking men. That’s how I feel, at least.

- Lud’s joke was about the pander and IMO it was funny. Y’all got to realise that while I don’t see Dream as a liar about his sexuality (you’ll never see me call BS on the reddit comment), he’s still someone who panders the potential of him being queer. Now, if he at some point comes out as unambiguously queer, people making a huge deal about him being a queerbaiter because of his jokes will look dumb as shit (and I will laugh) 😭 But without a clarification, I do think it’s at least somewhat fair game to make jokes about him pandering. Because that’s what it is at the end of the day, first and foremost. There’s definitely a line where it crosses into homophobia, but Lud’s joke wasn’t so bad as to cross it. It’s hard to seperate anything Dream says publicly and jokingly about his sexuality from just being, well. A joke. /Srs statements like on Reddit should be better respected, but. I think it would be good of us all to recognise that Dream knows his audience, knows what they (we!) want to see, and delivers.

so other than like, the dreddit, the war-cry controversy, the r-slur thing, and now manatreed, what are the big, genuinely bad things that dream has done through his youtube career? i always see people say theres so many bad things he's done to hate him for so why spread misinfo, but what else is there? this is a genuine question bc i rlly don't understand the level of hatred people have for him and where the "dream lies about EVERYTHING and is manipulating his stans" thing that i see so often in leak spaces came from. is it the speed running controversy and how he conducted himself during that? bc i agree that was bad but not like, vitriolic-hate inducing levels of bad, just really really embarrassing for him. like gen i dont really get it

Sorry I laughed at ‘so other than [long list of fuck ups], what has Dream done wrong?’. There’s a couple more things you could add to the list but I don’t think me listing them is very relevant to the point I want to make, so I’m not gonna bother.

The speedrun controversy definitely made a lot of people who might not‘ve known much about him on a personality level see him in a bad light, but plenty of fans had already noticed his shitty patterns of behaviour back in 2020.

It’s not that he’s done stuff that’s ‘universally’ terrible (like SA or grooming or whatever, depending on the truth of the matter Manatreed comes kinda close? But not really), it’s that for pretty much everyone, there’s something he’s done that they hate. For left wing types, it tends to be the Dreddit, r-slur discourse, or war cry babyrage thread (along with things that he legitimately didn’t do, like dox someone or praise his fan’s racist behaviour). For more ‘ew stans cringe’ types who are often more apolitical, it’s ‘he fosters toxic parasocial relationships and his fans are cringe and mean’, as well as his behaviour during the SR controversy, which yes, was embarrassing, but also resulted in a TON of harassment being sent towards people who were shown to be correct in the end. To fandom discourse types, they hate that he ‘queerbaits’ and supports the shipping of IRL people (even though it’s only for himself and his consenting friends).

What is universal is that his apologies or responses are often insufficient to those hurt (but not necessarily bad, so I won’t say he’s ALWAYS bad at apologising), and more importantly the fact that if you’re upset at him, hundreds of his fans will be there defending him in ways that exemplify whatever hurtful thing he did, and the fact that he can often poke the bear a lot. I genuinely think that if his fanbase was more chill and would call him out more universally when he fucked up and didn’t QRT anyone critiquing him en-mass that many people would have a lot less vitriol behind their reasons for disliking him.
