What I hate most about those crappy "Dracula is after his destined reincarnated wifey" adaptations is that they absolutely obliterate Mina Harker's entire personality, agency, intelligence, bravery, loyalty, and tragedy, for the sake of the 589th version of the Rich Violent Guy And Girl Who Tames Him trope.

Because Mina to them is not a character with layers, interests, complexes, fears, and incredible strength.

She is a prop for the sexy vampire lord to have the equivalent of a bastardised Hades/Persephone romance with.

She therefore is not allowed to be the actual main protagonist, the woman who became one with death and defied it, the person who saved everyone, and a literal survivor. The one who wrote the novel Dracula.

Yet every Updated Dracula With Feminism demotes her to a love interest who submits to her fate and forgiving a random man who hurts her and kills her loved ones. Hell.

Silly question: pet cats or pet dog for the Harkers

I know I am going against Nosferatu's suggestion to the contrary with its un-Harkers' kittens and the mention of Jonathan presumably buying cat's meat to give to strays, but I think it has to be dogs for the Harkers. There are just too many instances of Dogs = Good, Dogs = Anti-Dracula in the text for me to say otherwise.

Even if they do get around to a cat at some point, they absolutely have a dog first. Especially by the time little Quincey is born. As to what kind of dog that would be, I'll say they aim for a medium-to-large breed. The kind who'd be able to not only bark and howl a warning that Something is Wrong, but to take a bite out of any undead sorts who might come skulking around.
