I was thinking about that scene in Homecoming where Tony takes away Peter’s suit, and how so many Tony antis point to that part as being abusive, and I’m just like … y’all were either some extremely well-behaved children, or your parents were saints

Starting with: someone could have died. Someone could have died or been seriously hurt, if Tony hadn’t happened to call Peter at just the right time, if he wasn’t close enough, if we weren’t operating by movie rules, someone could have died, Peter, could have died. Tony didn’t take the suit just to be an asshole, he was worried that Peter would keep putting himself in dangerous situations and get genuinely hurt.

It actually reminds me of my own mom and my brother. I think I talked about my brother once or twice before, but basically he used to have a bad habit of wandering off to hang out with friends when he was supposed to be somewhere else without telling anyone where he was going. On at least two occasions that I can think of, my mom was literally crying as we drove around for hours looking for him, and both times he was fine, but my mom was angry with him - because we didn’t know where he was, what was happening, if he was hurt, if he was kidnapped, if he was dead. I’m actually getting kind of choked up thinking about it now, which I didn’t think would happen since I’m usually the more level-headed one about these things.

But that’s kind of the point, it’s horrible to feel that way and to be so helpless when someone you care about could be hurt or in danger, and it’s worse when they actually were in danger and when they put themselves in that danger, because then you’re angry, you feel guilty for being angry, you’re worried, you’re grief-stricken even when nothing ended up happening because you know that it could have and it might in the future. And I honestly don’t know how anyone could watch that scene and see anything other than someone who is, being harsh yes, but doing it out of genuine and well-founded worry and fear for someone they care about.

WOW, the fact that the Russo brothers HATE how taika watiti developed thor’s character in ragnarok really really fucking jumps out in avengers 4!!! 

in ragnarok, taika:

cut Thor’s hair

took away his hammer, signifying that Thor was indeed a character beyond the hammer

took out his eye, signifying that Thor was powerful beyond his physical attributes and ready to take on the responsibility as king 

put Thor as the underdog in the situation, reminding the audience that Thor is clever and intelligent, not only optimistic and cheerful, and purely brawn

had him meet Valkyrie and earn her loyalty, showing him as a leader ready to right the wrongs of Asgard’s past and encourage his people to a better path

developed his relationship with Loki, reminding the audience that they were still brothers and Thor had great capacity for forgiveness, but wasn’t stupid enough to blindly trust Loki 

destroyed Asgard, showing that Thor is ready to take, make, and recover from the big sacrifices and do whatever it takes to keep, care, and protect his people
