Zack doesn't know how to explain it to Tifa. How odd it felt doing normal things at times. They were standing around in the kitchen with idle conversation and a couple laughs. For a moment his mind isn't on the mission. Only her. Those soft amber colored eyes that seem to have become so overly fixated on him. It's nothing to admit it's become difficult to keep his gaze from hers either.

She isn't the only one selfishly spending time here tonight.

"No."

He admits to her quietly. Those neon blue eyes narrow as his lips turn up into a short smirk. What he is about to say sounds outlandish, even in his head. She won't believe it, even if it's true.

"I did a lot of fighting. Armies, Terrorists, Monsters.... I even fought a "God" once."

It sounds crazy to say, so he laughs heartily at that trying to downplay it. To say the normality of life now. The coming back to the hideout and having a drink. Celebrating with everyone. It was a welcome change. When they weren't busy fighting Shin-Ra, Zack was out in the community, trying to be the hero he always dreamed of being.

He would help world if he could.

There is a emptiness that rings out in his words, as he speaks of being a SOLDIER. It is as if all at once he is right back there. 1st Class SOLDIER, Zack Fair. The past is never far from his mind. it is the real reason he fights so hard to bring Shin-Ra down. He has is own personal score to settle with them.

Just like everyone else.

"They won't stop. It doesn't do anybody any justice for me to."

A gloved hand comes to rest idly on her hip for a moment. As he steps forward and closes the distance between them for a moment.

"Don't think it's not tempting though.

There's a reason I always drag myself in here every night."

her head raised slightly, craned at an angle that made his eyes look all the more alluring. she could have stayed forever in that moment. his eyelashes were so long ... & the scar on his face hardly made him look tough ( if anything , the faded lines made her believe he looked quite gentle ). she smiled to herself, eyes reluctantly focusing on the task at hand ... cutting potatoes. when she asked for zack's help to prepare for whatever crowd came about this week, admittedly, it was self indulgent. not only did she want him to slow down from the back to back missions, but she wanted more time alone with him. selfish, really.

a light, airy chuckle escaped her. ❛ huh ? didn't do much cooking while you were a soldier ? ❜ she teased, that smile never waning. ❛ could've sworn it was in the requirements . ❜ even if it was, she would have expected to reteach him a thing or two ( he struck her as the type to care more about offense tactics than ... culinary skills ). it wouldn't bothered her — just another moment where time seemed to slow down ( just as she wanted ). ❛ or ... did you mean not having to come back with a bruise ? ❜

she'd be lying if the concept of him being a constant factor in their missions wasn't a cause for concern. he'd fight through & through, before hobbling his way back to seventh heaven ( even on days when he was utterly exhausted ! to feel special at the expense of his well being ... ) where she'd greet him with a drink & a conversation to ease his tensions. she brought it up to barret once, to no avail. he would lecture on about how much of an asset he was to team & how his soldier strength was necessary to avoid finding themselves surrounded. it took marlene chiming in ( she wanted so desperately to hear all of his stories over dinner ! ) to convince him to give zack the night off. ❛ you know ... ❜ she began, eyes never leaving the knife as she continued her handiwork. ❛ you could always tell him you need a break ... it must be exhausting . ❜

The SOLDIER tries his best to stand up and question him, but the fight has left him bereft of strength. It is all he can do now to cling to the buster sword. His only form of support. A million questions burn in the raven haired man's chest. How the mighty had fallen. The man he had come to admire most. The greatest SOLDIER of them all. Sephiroth had nearly plunged the entire world into oblivion.

Zack isn't really sure what was different this time. How he even managed to beat Sephiroth was beyond him. Unless the silver haired man just didn't put his heart into it.

"Where is your honor... your pride!? How could you just throw it all away!?"
