There seems to be this popular notion that Blue Diamond has some particular hatred and anger toward fusion, based on her actions during “The Answer.”
Now, I highly doubt that her attitude to mixed-Gem fusion is any better than the members of her court who declared it “disgusting.” But looking at the scene from “The Answer” again in light of Blue’s relationship with Pink Diamond as revealed in “Steven’s Dream,” it seems really obvious to me that the main focus of Blue’s anger is not so much the fact of Ruby and Sapphire’s fusion per se, but the fact that it distracted the entire court and allowed Rose and Pearl to escape.
Like, people always focus on the part where she says, “How dare you fuse with a member of my court. You will be broken for this.” But what’s the FIRST thing she says after Garnet splits up, even when everyone else is still focusing on the fusion?
“The rebels have fled. Sapphire, this is not the scenario you described.”
She was really counting on Sapphire’s prediction that “the rebellion ends here” to come true. This is underscored by one word that popped up in Garnet’s narration:
“Thank you, Sapphire,” Blue Diamond said, relieved. “That’s all I needed to know.”
The use of “relieved” is interesting here. The sentence makes perfect sense without it, but the addition of that one word changes the nuance somewhat. Blue Diamond is not merely “pleased” that the rebels will soon be captured, she’s “relieved.” This implies that she had been worried. Presumably, she was worried for Pink Diamond, whose colony was being troubled by these rebels.
Blue Diamond expected that she would finally be rid of these worries and was then angry when that expectation was frustrated. She took her anger out on the easiest target: a “common, disposable” Ruby who claimed responsibility for the failure of Sapphire’s prediction.
Like, since “The Trial” I’ve also seen some people assert that Blue is some kind of Lawful Evil type — obsessed with order and rules, punishing those who disrupt that order or break the rules in any way. I don’t see it that way at all? She’s furious with Ruby and Sapphire not because they went against propriety and social rules, but because by doing so they indirectly gave the rebels a chance to escape and continue to cause problems for Pink Diamond. She has a trial for “Rose Quartz” not because she’s so devoted to rules or due process, but because she personally wants to find out how Pink Diamond was shattered. She was angry at Yellow for poofing the Zircons, not because Yellow was out of order, but because Blue Zircon was finally addressing some of the inconsistencies about the facts of the case, and Yellow poofed her just when they were finally getting somewhere.
For me, Blue Diamond is someone primarily motivated by personal feelings and attachments, rather than enforcing rules and order for their own sake.

❝ i have not seen you for many , many centuries. ❞
blue is conflicted on how to feel in this moment ; for she was more than aware of what had happened to her fellow pearl -- mostly due to being blue diamond’s utmost faithful servant. blue and yellow had spoken of it more than once , of how pink had broken her pearl ; how she needed to be replaced ; and how white diamond had taken her for her own -- stripping her of all free will in the process.
and what a horrifying thought that was , a gem chillingly horrifying thought, for at any moment she , or yellow’s many pearls she had met throughout her entire existence could very well end up at white’s feet just like she had -- and never have thoughts of their own again. and perhaps , that was why it was so odd seeing her here , thinking , speaking , and acting freely. she never expected her to escape white’s grasp.
❝ i welcome you back , pearl. ❞
@crackedservant liked for blue pearl.
