The concept of someone seeing how you came back wrong, how you're a "monster" now, and being like that's the coolest thing I've ever seen...there's literally no possible situation where Falin isn't loved and valued is there that's just not possible no matter what
oh laios is X kind of creep laios is Y kind of freak- WRONG!!!! WRONG WRONG WRONG!
laios would be your HERPETOLOGY BOY who posts about nothing but his worrying amount of reptiles and rescues and people worry if he has decent husbandry until you go to his place and he has EXCELLENT enclosures and amazing climbs and tanks and has Turtles in his fucking fridge- but now the new worry is that his only space for himself is the kitchen, one table, and his mattress on the floor. He researches every aspect of them and wonders how individual dinosaurs would taste and which ones would taste more like chicken and which taste more like reptiles. Which he would never eat his prized specimins of course, but has probably eaten a wild, dead lizard off the ground (because he knows the right amount of decay, threat levels of each native species, and how to identify disease), so you drive him down to the Tennesee Bass Pro Pyramid to taste a real Croc Burger and he gets so excited he throws up in the car on the way there.
the fact that kobolds seem to be this more "animalistic" race, with kuro talking in broken language and like improper grammar. this, coupled with the fact that he seems unaware of the fact that he's being exploited by mick, makes kobolds appear to be less intelligent than other races.
but we actually find out that the simple speech patterns are in fact due to common being kuro's second language. and in a scene where kabru talks to kuro in his native language, it's actually kabru with the simple speech patterns.
we even learn that kuro seems to actually have a much better understanding of his situation with mick than we first imagine. merely wanting to stay with them so they can have someone who they can feel relaxed around.
this, coupled with a bunch of other things, really makes dungeon meshi stand out from other fantasy media. there are no "dumb" or "evil" races, they're all just people.
