Shoutout to @/agenticed’s little Stockshop fic called Infestation which is technically about hysterical domestic shenanigans but got me spinning some horrific horrific Stockman headcanons again <3333
⚠️ Full warning, this gets a little fucked up and graphic, Insane In The Membrane style.
Like…… after everything, I think Stockman has some majorrrr trauma about rot (for Insane In The Membrane reasons) and rodents (for Mousers reasons) specifically, but also pests in general.
His lab is always, always pristine. The moment something got used it’s getting rinsed, everything goes back in its place, and partially this is just y’know, general lab safety, it’s good practice. But part of it is, what if something doesn’t get cleaned properly right away, what if you touch something and it will react with your skin, eat at it, melt it, ruin it.
He can’t leave dishes in the sink. The moment the food’s eaten, everything is getting washed, or he’s never gonna bring himself to touch it. What if it rots? What if there’s mold? What if he accidentally breathes it in? What if it catches onto him, roots in his flesh, burrows too deep in him to ever be rid of it?
It’s the worst with dead bodies, honestly. He doesn’t see many of them these days (thank God) but working with the organic Mousers can lead to the occasional corpse, either of a Mouser or something it had caught, and while dissecting his own creations properly in his lab tends to be fine (safe space, familiar process on a familiar project, focus on the science like you always have, you can always rely on science), the Mousers are experimental and sometimes die outside while working and have to be retrieved. Sometimes it takes a while for people to retrieve them.
And those can be terrifying.
When the flesh smells of rot and is being overtaken by scavengers, worms and bugs and all sorts of small living things, when it starts falling apart easier, so much easier than it should, it’s hard not to make it personal. It’s hard not to think about your own lower jaw slowly, gradually, unhinging from where it’s supposed to be, of your eyesight blurring much faster than it’s supposed to, it’s hard not to think of falling apart, witnessing yourself dying long before death takes you.
I think about that a lot.

Cody Jones continues to make me insane yknow like - the boy has nothing to do in the present day, he's not allowed to go out so he stays in and reads April and Casey's journal and collects old items at least remotely related to their adventures, and it's!! It's mostly not their stuff, did you notice??? Because April and Casey's and the turtles' homes kept getting destroyed so there would always be less and less left behind, and so most of what he has are Foot clan flags, and Shredder and Stockman mechs, and superhero outfits! And he so desperately longs to know more about his family, to live vicariously through them, that he MAKES A WORKING TIME MACHINE????
EVEN IF THE TIME WINDOW ONLY WORKED AS A WINDOW AS IT WAS INTENDED TO THAT IS STILL A TIME MACHINE!!
Like, that is how much this poor kid wanted to connect with his family. Is that not so freaking sad??

I have trouble taking care of my teeth because everything that involves doing that is a sensory nightmare. I decide to do some research to see if there's anything I can do about this. The results?
"How to make your autistic child brush their teeth"
"Autistic Children and Sensory issues relating to tooth brushing"
"How to get your little shit to brush his fucking teeth"
Like, yeah Google, thanks, that really helps. And like, even if I was a child, some of the advice seemed... unhelpful. Like, doing a dance and singing a song while brushing your teeth? Even for a kid, I don't think that would help distract from a sensory experience as intense as brushing your teeth. Like, the extremely intense and unpleasant flavor, the intense feeling of the brush against your teeth scraping across it, even mouthwash has such an intense and disgusting flavor that I have difficulty keeping it in my mouth for more than a few seconds. I wish there was SOMETHING that could be done.

In Mirage they do cover this!! On whether or not he's actually died. I feel like 2003 has watered down his existential crisis by a LOT due to PG-ness (or simply did not show it onscreen)
You can tell that in the first time we see him (S2E1) he says "This robot body can" this and "This robot body can" that, he's dissociating himself from the reality that he is the "robot body". Somehow, he probably is in denial that he's actually died at that time
What's interesting to me is that even though this crisis isn't shown onscreen (he is the only Honeycutt to not be venting on main to the turtles about it) you can somewhat notice that he accepts his situation somewhere around Worlds Collide part 1 when he sends Mortu that message and he refers to himself as a "robot." But I also can't help but notice that he also dehumanises himself in that episode, wiping his memory clean of the teleporter device and giving himself away to the triceratons, even if it will cost him his life. Almost like he's a machine. A cold, unfeeling robot, who is expendable and able to be taken apart. But he's none of those things. When the triceratons seize him in the sewers (before the turtles save his self-sacrificing ass again) he yelps. He is afraid, but he does what he has to even if it dehumanises him. You could technically argue it's because he's very compassionate and empathetic, that's why he sacrifices himself. But the ways he does it, in the entire trilogy of Worlds Collide, just screams "dehumanising himself to cope" to me. He wipes his memory clean, lets the turtles take him apart and run around with his limbs, hacks the entire Federation's system and shuts it down, like he's just a robot.
Now, Stockman's situation is vastly different. I like to think that he and Honeycutt are two sides of the same coin in a way. Both had their humanity stripped of them by being a scientist, aka "expendable items" to the eyes of their schemes, but Honeycutt actually doesn't want to build something that causes mass destruction; while Stockman does. His literal debut episode involves him invent mouse-eating robots which double as ways to rob a bank AND collapse architecture. He does it all for fame, because he feels like he deserves to be acknowledged by the world for his genius feats. And because of that hubris does he end up in incredibly dangerous work places such as Shredder and later, Bishop. It's kind of a poetic irony that Stockman wants to be acknowledged, only for him to end up in a way worse place than he started out, had he not been influenced by his greed (aka not working with Shredder). No longer human.
Honeycutt and Stockman interests me in that they deal with dehumanisation in different ways. Similarly to how Stockman wants credit for his ingenious inventions, he's also in a constant pursuit of his humanity; as it's equally as important to reflecting a good image on him. It's his #1 priority. Honeycutt however, chooses to accept his new robotic body and even decides to build an even sillier looking one as seen in Bishop's Gambit. He could've chosen a more human-like form, and it's partially due to his limited resources then— but he simply does not attempt to look human anymore after that. He is fine in any form, and even lets himself become portable Honeycutt when the time needs it. Stockman would never do that. He needs his genius in the flesh. What happens to him post-Insane in the Membrane is truly cruel— Bishop needs his scientist, so he revives him. He revives him in a more robotic form than ever before, officially stripping him of his humanity forever. Or however long it happens to be in Fast Forward bc I have not watched that yet

Does anyone ever wonder if Professor Honeycutt has feelings about technically having died?

CW: un-detailed gore and slight flashing lights
There were 2 hit games with similar artstyles and I was into one and the other was an MLP gore game. I got the MLP gore game ep 4 on my recommended on Youtube and went ehh fuck it. And watched it. Told my friends and they told me to storyboard it so I did

Things in Rise that Echo 2003 TMNT
Hi Ame here back on my bullshit-- getting right into it. I can't remember where or who said it, but one of the creators of Rise mentioned that 03 was their favorite iteration, and it really shows sometimes. Spoilers for 03 and Rise below ;)
The first thing that comes to mind is Shredder. "But Ame, 03 Shredder was a little alien guy-" NO I'M TALKIN ABOUT THE ORIGINAL SHREDDER. In 03, Ch'rell took on the mask of a well-known boogeyman at the time; the Shredder, who was a demon that had lived 1,000 years ago. Oroku Saki was a man who defeated the demon alongside the rest of the Ninja Tribunal, and after he defeated it, became possessed by it after falling prey to its promise of power.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The most obvious I think are their markings. In 2003 they use 'chi' to give them mystic abilities. It's the act of becoming one with the world around you, but it also seems to work when you are connected to the people around you. Even the medallions over their chest mimic the Hamato symbol that glows on Rise's chest when activating their ninpo.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Their markings even mimic each other (except for Raph, whose Rise version doesn't have any markings, which is a travesty). Leo has slash-like marks, Donnie has geometric marks, and Mikey's got a lot of circles!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
NOW OKAY THIS ONE'S A BIT OF A STRETCH, BUT-- Leo has made portals with his sword before! Specifically, he held one open with it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's the little things <3
Like the ghost of dead Hamatos coming back to assist their rat sons in the final moments :)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some more small things! Raph and Donny's brains being rifled through! (Which also happens to 2012 Mikey)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Raph's and Leo's shoulder! (Hard to get a good shot of Leo's, thanks 4kids) Ironically both happening at a moment where Leo has "failed" to protect his family.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rise Mikey being the "greatest mystic warrior" reminds me a lot of what is alluded to many times with 2003 Mikey; he's very good at what he does! He's a Battle Nexus Champion! He's the one who can channel chi the best! He could surpass Leo even in skill if he actually applied himself, but he doesn't. Because he just doesn't find it fun. But it's shown a little in the episode Same as it Never Was, where he's able to dispatch a whole group of guys with guns all on his own, including three armored cars and a HELICOPTER.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also making comparisons between 03 SAINW!Mike and Rise F!Leo losing their arms is kinda a stretch but I'll point it out anyway.
And speaking of the movie. My absolute FAVORITE thing to compare is the Krang of Rise to Sh'Okanabo of 2003's Fast Forward season. It's like they took all the concepts of Sh'Okanabo and made it BETTER. Everything was executed SO MUCH BETTER.
Gooey tentacle villain? Check
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Weirdly organic flesh ship? Check
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Alien invaders turning people into drone versions of their species? Check
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Also side note about that one, I think it's hilarious that in 03 Raph's the only one who DOESN'T get Kanaboe'd but in Rise Raph is the only one who DOES get Krang'ed.)
Taking over structures with their goop? Check
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And finally. Small boy son that is a descendant of Casey Jones. Check :)
